Mood Indigo, IIT Bombay’s Iconic Celebration Of December

Every winter, something extraordinary happens at IIT Bombay. The campus quietly sheds its academic rhythm and steps into something far more alive. Music spills into corridors. Open lawns turn into dance floors. Conversations begin with strangers and end as friendships. This transformation has a name that carries decades of memory and madness. Mood Indigo 2025.

From 16th to 18th December, IIT Bombay will once again become a living celebration of youth culture. Thousands of students from across India and beyond will gather not just to attend a festival but to live inside it. Mood Indigo is not about watching from the sidelines. It is about participation. It is about showing up as you are and leaving with stories you will carry for years.

What sets Mood Indigo apart is its soul. It remains completely free for college students, a rare and powerful statement in today’s festival landscape. Here, access is not bought. It is earned by curiosity, creativity, and the simple desire to belong. MI feels like a reminder of what youth culture is meant to be. Open. Inclusive. Fearlessly expressive.

What began in 1971 as a modest campus celebration has grown into Asia’s largest college cultural festival. Over five decades, Mood Indigo has become more than an annual event. It has evolved into a legacy. A space where generations of students have discovered their voice. A platform where artists connected with audiences long before the world knew their names. A place where memories outlast degrees.

Walking through Mood Indigo feels like entering a parallel city. One where fashion is personal and experimental. One where conversations flow easily and nights stretch endlessly. One where every corner offers something unexpected. From high energy cultural competitions and street performances to design showcases, art installations, and interactive zones, creativity is not curated. It simply exists everywhere.

Mood Indigo 2025 promises to take that experience even further with a lineup that speaks directly to the pulse of this generation while honoring nostalgia. Taking center stage this year is Sonu Nigam. His voice carries decades of emotion and collective memory. A Sonu Nigam performance at MI is not just a concert. It is a shared moment where thousands sing together, smile together, and feel something deeply familiar.

Adding an international touch is Dhruv, the global indie pop artist whose music resonates with young audiences across the world. His presence reflects MI’s global outlook and its ability to connect cultures through sound. Hip hop lovers are in for a thrill with Seedhe Maut and Karma, bringing raw energy, sharp lyricism, and unapologetic honesty to the stage.

For those drawn to musical depth and soul, The Anand Bhaskar Collective offers rich fusion sounds that blend tradition with modern expression. Chaar Diwari brings an experimental edge that challenges comfort zones and expectations. And when the night calls for something spiritual, Bismil’s sufi performance promises a powerful pause. A moment of stillness amid the chaos.

As the lights grow brighter and the tempo rises, Belgian EDM artist Romeo Blanco will take over, turning the campus into a high energy playground of sound and movement. These nights at Mood Indigo are not meant to be remembered quietly. They are meant to be felt fully.

Beyond music, Mood Indigo carries the excitement of cinema, storytelling, and laughter. Bollywood stars including Rakul Preet Singh, Pulkit Samrat, Vicky Kaushal, Jaideep Ahlawat, Archana Puran Singh, and Kavitha Seth will be making appearances, adding glamour without distance. These moments feel intimate, unscripted, and human. Just like MI itself.

Comedy finds its space too, with Rahul Subramanian delivering laughter filled sets that cut through stress and seriousness with ease. At Mood Indigo, even laughter feels collective.

What truly defines Mood Indigo is not just who performs or who attends. It is how it makes people feel. It gives students a space to express themselves without judgment. It allows talent to be celebrated loudly. It reminds everyone that creativity thrives when freedom exists.

So mark your calendars and gather your friends. From 16th to 18th December, IIT Bombay is where December finds its rhythm. Register now at moodi.org and follow @iitbombay.moodi on Instagram for updates and announcements.

Mood Indigo is not just a festival you attend. It is a feeling you carry back with you.
