- Why the Gender Pay Gap is Wide and Disturbing
SOCIETY by Rupashree Ravi Why the Gender Pay Gap is Wide and Disturbing 4 August 2022 SOCIETY Advertisement Advertisement Gender equality in the workplace is still a pipe dream for many. Education, discrimination, societal norms, and other factors affect women’s occupational choices and their pay. It is known that women are paid significantly lesser than men for the same work they do, whether it is paid domestic labour or a desk job. This is despite the fact that over the last several decades, millions of women have joined the workforce and have also made huge gains in their educational attainment. All this means that the gender pay gap is real. It also hurts women by suppressing their earnings and making it harder for them to keep a balance between work and family. The gender pay gap is essentially the average difference between the remuneration received by working men and women. But it is more nuanced as the pay gaps can be unadjusted or adjusted. The former is much starker as it simply differentiates between the mean and median wages of the two genders, while the latter takes into account differences in factors such as occupation, education, and job experience. Women are often blamed for not earning more “Worldwide, women only make 77 cents for every dollar earned by men. This results in a lifetime of income inequality between men and women and more women retiring into poverty.” This kind of inequality can be seen in all countries and across all sectors because women’s work is undervalued and they also tend to be concentrated in different jobs than men. Even though the nature of the work may require equal or more effort and skills, it is still valued and remunerated less. The gap widens for women of colour, immigrant women, and mothers, which pushes them into casual and part-time work in the informal economy. This kind of phenomenon is common and much larger in developing countries than in developed countries. It is alarming to know that in a country like India, the reasons for the pay gap are much more complicated. Girl students are forced to drop out of school and are married off, and even if they are educated, many women are not allowed to work by their families. Women who join the workforce often need to take extended leaves for maternity and child care, and even the healthcare of other family members. To top it all, they also take care of household duties like cooking and cleaning. All these factors lead to women’s earnings falling behind men’s over time. Women are forced to micro-manage at their workplace and home We have to understand why the gender wage gap exists and how we can tackle it, without shifting the blame to women for not earning more. Our economy itself provides unequal opportunities for women at every point of their education, training, and career choices. As a result, women tend to choose jobs that pay less, according to a study. They disproportionately enter lower-paid, and female-dominated occupations. However, this decision is shaped by discrimination, societal norms, and other forces beyond their control. Employers also choose to prefer men over women for the same positions and roles due to factors such as motherhood penalties. “Equal pay for work of equal value” The bottom line, however, is that socio-economic disparity and patriarchal power structures expose women to more unpaid care work and land the weight of multi-dimensional work, including primary caretaking on them. Factors like non-inclusivity and sexual harassment in the workplace further pressurise them to opt out of their career prospects. Studies reveal that it will 195 years to overcome the gender pay gap in India This is why we need to expand paid family and medical leave and improve the overall work-life balance. Paid paternity leaves for men are also a great start so that they can help at home as well and lift the burden from women. Implementation of stricter laws like the Equal Pay Act at the state and national levels will help to reduce the widening pay gap. Lastly, gender-sensitive employment practices and measures to reduce sexual harassment in the workplace are the need of the hour all across the world. #Feminism #GenderPayGap #Representation #Patriarchy #WorkplaceInclusivity #GenderSensitisation SEARCH Women Empowerment A mere concept or a real Concern SOCIETY Looking Through The Excellence Of ‘Jaali’ Architecture SOCIETY Why the Gender Pay Gap is Wide and Disturbing SOCIETY Festival of Stones SOCIETY The Pygmalion Effect SOCIETY POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement By Anushka Sharma Uniting Voices, Shaping Futures: Dive Into Mun 2.0 At NIT Patna 8 September 2024 SOCIETY By Anushka Sharma These Healthy Habits Can Lower Your Risk Of Depression 31 August 2024 SOCIETY By Rini Pathak A Glance In The Kshitij’23: A Euphoric Escapade 26 January 2024 SOCIETY By Rini Pathak Mithibai Kshitij: Epitome Of Diverse Social Cause Empowerment 24 January 2024 SOCIETY RELATED POSTS
- Breakfast – Don’t miss!
by Akash Khatri Breakfast – Don’t miss! 7 July 2022 FOOD Advertisement Advertisement My most favourite meal of the day – BREAKFAST! The first thing out of bed. The fun part: it can include anything, be it fresh orange juice, hot waffles, drooly pancakes with maple syrup, a bowl of cereal with fresh milk, oats garnished with pretty dry fruit, tasty French toast, a warm croissant, crispy bacon, PopTarts, fruits, berries, a slice of perfectly toasted bread, eggs in any form and not forgetting freshly brewed coffee. It sets the mood good for a day. People often skip breakfast in a rush to reach in time, to spend some more time in bed, because they are too tired to bother, they don’t feel hungry, they are bored of the same breakfast every day, or some other excuse, but it’s wrong. It is called the “most important meal of the day” for a reason. Research links eating breakfast to good health. It helps you kick start your metabolism as it is the first meal after you wake up thereby also helping you to burn calories throughout the day. It provides you with the fuel required to get you going through the day and avoids you to binge eat as it controls your appetite. Science has proved that a good breakfast is directly proportional to a better memory. This ‘first meal’ also lowers bad cholesterol levels in our body and prevents a number of other diseases such as diabetes, obesity, etc. A US study that analyzed the health data of 50,000 people over seven years, concluded that those who made breakfast the largest meal of the day had a lower body mass index (BMI) than those who ate a large lunch or dinner. Moreover, it breaks the overnight fasting cycle by replenishing the body with glucose. A healthy breakfast also contains all nutrients such as calcium, iron and B vitamins as well as protein and fibre which are very important for our body. Running late? Don’t worry, we’ll help: Prepare a week’s breakfast over the weekend or the night before such as overnight oats, fruit jars or healthy muffins. A pre-prepared breakfast saves you ample of time in the morning and can be picked up on the way to your destination. Try setting your alarm 10-15 minutes prior to your usual time so that you don’t skip breakfast. Figure out what you want to eat for breakfast the night before and set out dry ingredients or pans and bowls you would require so that you save time in the morning. Stock your cupboard with go-to breakfast foods like protein bars, low sugar cereals, smoothies, etc. Keep some breakfast foods in your car or workplace or handbag. According to nutritionists, one should eat breakfast within two hours of waking and it should be in the range of 25-35% of your guideline daily allowance, also known as GDA. A few quick breakfast ideas: Ø Avocado toast with eggs Top a slice of brown or multigrain bread with smashed avocado and a sunny-side-up/fried/baked egg or two sprinkled with some salt and pepper for taste. Ø Pancakes It can be finished with a handful of berries, chopped bananas, spread of peanut butter or chocolate spread or the old maple syrup. Ø The fruit toast My personal favourite, it’s super easy to make. Add your favourite nut butter with some chopped bananas on a toast with a garnish of chia seeds. Ø Fruit bowl The quickest to make. Precut fruits to make it even quicker, mix seasonal fruits together. The fun part- you can just add anything you like. I like to add some quinoa, honey and lemon too. Delicious! Ø Scrambled Mess Break a few eggs in a pan coated with a spray of oil. Add in your favourite veggies to add some colour like onions, chillies and bell peppers. I like to flavour it with some rosemary, thyme and basil leaves. You can also stick to the simpler version by just adding salt and pepper. Ø The overnight overload Take a jar and mix oats, chia seeds, berries of your choice, a dash of vanilla, almond or coconut milk and maple syrup. Refrigerate overnight. You can have it cold or warm it in the microwave for a minute. Add a banana and top it with some dry fruits. Ø Classic Quinoa Cook Quinoa with any kind of milk. Add sugar, cinnamon and cardamom for taste. This dish is high in protein. Ø Peanut butter oat cookies I like to add some semi-sweet chocolate chips for taste. Ø Banana Zucchini muffins I like to substitute all-purpose flour with wheat and butter with coconut oil to make it healthier. Ø Warm waffles Top it with a spoon of chocolate, peanut butter jelly, simply butter or fruits and maple syrup. Ø Simply Smoothies You can never go wrong with them; they are highly fulfilling and filled with proteins. Banana Dates Smoothie Strawberry Mango Smoothie Blueberry Yoghurt Smoothie Strawberry Spinach Smoothie Chocolate Oatmeal Smoothie Watermelon Mint Smoothie Pumpkin Carrot Smoothie Orange Smoothie Raspberry Peach Chia seeds Smoothie Beetroot Apple Smoothie Banana Honey Oatmeal Smoothie You can make endless more combinations, it just gets healthier. - How To Create A Capsule Wardrobe
How To Create A Capsule Wardrobe by Priti Sharma How To Create A Capsule Wardrobe 7 November 2022 FASHION Advertisement Despite having a wardrobe full of clothing, do you ever tell yourself, "I have nothing to wear." I know firsthand how irritating it can be to have an overflowing wardrobe full of clothes we may not particularly enjoy wearing. Can you genuinely say that you wear every piece of clothing in your closet? If the answer is no, keep reading to learn how to begin effectively cleaning your closet and creating a wardrobe that you will want to wear every day. But first, what is a capsule wardrobe anyway? A capsule wardrobe is a collection of carefully chosen, classic pieces that never go out of style. (Your closet already has a capsule wardrobe.) The things in a capsule wardrobe are the ones you adore wearing every day. Many minimalists contend that a capsule wardrobe should consist of between 30 and 50 things for the whole year, but I disagree. A capsule wardrobe should be created around your lifestyle and comprise items that you enjoy wearing and that make you happy. How to start a capsule wardrobe? Step 1: Analyze your style and lifestyle: Knowing our style is the first step to creating a wardrobe you will enjoy. You can take a style quiz to gain a general idea of what kind dominates in your life. Step 2: Track what you like to wear for 30 days: There are many ways to do this, either by manually tracking down what you wore every day in a notebook or in the note app on your mobile phone whenever and wherever and whatever comes to your mind while working or walking through the park, or while listening to some music. Step 3: The closet clean-out! You will have a better idea of your existing capsule wardrobe that currently exists in your closet after tracking what you wore effortlessly for 30 days. There is no magic number; creating a capsule wardrobe is about choosing the clothes you want to wear. Of course, you'll have gorgeous formal gowns you wear to weddings once a year, as well as your athletic wear and loungewear. They are not included in your capsule. Think of your capsule as your “go-to” rack of things you love to wear every day based on your lifestyle. The second pile represents the bulk of the job; it is now time to classify the remaining items. Before organizing, examine each thing to ensure that the idea of wearing it in the future makes you joyful. I would just get rid of it if it makes you feel guilty or like you have to wear it for "x reason." Sort your clothing into these categories: all-year fundamentals, Summer and spring, autumn and winter, and sell/donate pile. Keep track of the number of things you have in each category before deciding whether to create an annual or seasonal capsule. Although every one of us has a different lifestyle, it's crucial to continue wearing the clothes we enjoy. I personally enjoy creating seasonal capsule wardrobes because it declutters my closet by putting away the things I won't be using, and it allows me to view everything I have for the current season and think of new ways to style and wear the same items. I find it really energizing and enjoyable that when the seasons change, your old clothing transforms into your "new capsule" without the need to shop! Step 4: Define your colors / create a color palette to guide your future shopping: When creating a capsule wardrobe, a color palette is something optional but highly helpful because it serves as a shopping reference. Following the experiment of wearing 30 different products for 30 days, you will discover which colors you like to wear again. These colors may then be added to your color palette reference guide, giving you a direction for choosing colors when you go shopping in the future. Step 5: Map out your capsule and create a wishlist for missing items: It's time to develop a mental or visual map of your capsule or capsules to assist you to purchase less now that you've chosen your basics and given what you don't enjoy. If, after categorizing your wardrobe, you discovered that many of your "all-year staples" can be worn in the fall and winter, you no longer have an excuse to buy a new sweater. Instead, you should experiment with layering and set a goal for yourself to wear your sweaters throughout the year. Making a checklist of how many additional tops you believe you could need can help you finish your spring capsule wardrobe. You might have discovered during your closet clean-out that you don't have enough new and breathable tops for spring. Step 6: Rewear before you have the urge to buy again: This is the stage when you learn to be more creative, thus I believe it to be my favorite. I try to make myself put on an item from my closet that I haven't worn in a while whenever I feel the want to purchase it. It's acceptable to just get rid of it and donate it to someone who might enjoy and re-wear it more than you if you try to re-wear anything and you don't feel confident or attractive in it. We never have the perfect closet, and occasionally we hang onto things because we are not used to letting go. Step 7: Invest in quality over quantity, your clothes shouldn’t cost as much as your cup of coffee, and here’s why: Learn about the fibers used in the clothing you buy, as well as the implications of tossing away clothing, if you want to become a more deliberate consumer. Did you know that 85% of textile waste in the USA ends up in landfills? Rewearing is the main way to lessen your fashion footprint. If you must purchase anything new, consider buying used items or supporting firms that are ethical, sustainable, and that use natural and organic textiles as well as recycled materials when producing their clothing. Sometimes, environmentally friendly clothing may cost more than conventional clothing, but this is only because environmentally friendly manufacturers pledge to pay their employees a fair salary and to use only premium, natural, or recycled materials. Your clothing shouldn't be as expensive as your morning brew. We must develop the habit of paying reasonable rates for goods. #Fashion #Capsule Wardrobe #Clothing #collection #Style #Colours SEARCH The Rich Heritage of Indian Handloom FASHION Fashion In The 19th Century FASHION Colour Psychology in Fashion: Explained FASHION The Influence Of Kanye West On Fashion FASHION K-Pop Fashion And Its Impact On Global Wardrobe FASHION POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement By Shriniwas Kodape AiSPi Wanderlust Diaries: Marzook, L’Afshar, And A Fashion Bender In Mumbai 25 April 2025 FASHION By Anushka Uniyal Kiyaan Silver: Timeless Jewellery For Every Woman 27 March 2025 FASHION By Sakshi Batra The Shoe Faktory Success Story: Ishpreet Singh Gujral’s Bold Business Leap 27 March 2025 FASHION By Sakshi Batra From Reality TV To Real Success: Nibedita Paal’s Inspiring Story 27 March 2025 FASHION RELATED POSTS
- Reflecting on Our World’s Billionaires Despite Corona
SOCIETY By Aparajita Jaiswal Reflecting on Our World’s Billionaires Despite Corona 27 July 2020 SOCIETY Advertisement Advertisement The coronavirus has hit the global economy hard and that includes even the richest people in the world. Forbes recently published its annual list of billionaires and found that the number of billionaires has dropped significantly because of the pandemic. Even among those still on the list, more than half saw their wealth decrease since the pandemic. There were 2,095 billionaires on the list when it was finalized on March 18, according to the business website. That was 58 fewer billionaires than last year and 226 fewer than at the beginning of the month, Forbes reported. Of course, with the markets in flux because of the coronavirus, each billionaire’s net worth also fluctuates depending on the day. Despite this, Jeff Bezos, 56, still stands to be the richest man in the world, despite transferring a quarter of his Amazon stake to his ex-wife MacKenzie last summer, according to Forbes. He was worth $113 billion on March 18. Coronavirus has led Jeff Bezos to donate $100M to feed hungry Americans. Bezos’ gift was the largest single donation Feeding America has ever received. “Today, I want to support those on the front lines at our nation’s food banks and those who are relying on them for food with a $100 million gift to @FeedingAmerica,” Bezos wrote on Instagram. Despite the plight of the world and the ongoing economic effect of the coronavirus crisis, billionaires in the U.S. have seen their wealth increase by over $406 billion in the past month. Other billionaires who have seen their wealth grow amid the pandemic include Tesla CEO Elon Musk — also by nearly $10 billion since January 1. In that time, Zoom founder Eric Yuan has added $3.5 billion to his net worth at $7.4 billion, thanks to the popularity of his video conferencing software in lockdown. Former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has added more than $4 billion to his fortune. #JeffBezosBezosCoronavirusInstagramTeslaTeslaCEOElonMuskElonMuskMacKenzieZoomfounderEricYuanFormerMicrosoftCEOSteveBallmerBillionForbesPandemicWealthBillionaireFeedingAmerica SEARCH Women Empowerment A mere concept or a real Concern SOCIETY Looking Through The Excellence Of ‘Jaali’ Architecture SOCIETY Why the Gender Pay Gap is Wide and Disturbing SOCIETY Festival of Stones SOCIETY The Pygmalion Effect SOCIETY POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement By Anushka Sharma Uniting Voices, Shaping Futures: Dive Into Mun 2.0 At NIT Patna 8 September 2024 SOCIETY By Anushka Sharma These Healthy Habits Can Lower Your Risk Of Depression 31 August 2024 SOCIETY By Rini Pathak A Glance In The Kshitij’23: A Euphoric Escapade 26 January 2024 SOCIETY By Rini Pathak Mithibai Kshitij: Epitome Of Diverse Social Cause Empowerment 24 January 2024 SOCIETY RELATED POSTS

- Veganism On The Rise: What You Need To Know
Veganism On The Rise: What You Need To Know by Rupashree Ravi Veganism On The Rise: What You Need To Know 3 August 2022 LIFESTYLE Advertisement Veganism has been a growing movement in many countries for a long time now. As it is slowly entering the mainstream ways of living and becoming more common, research on vegan diets and lifestyles is being done to know more about their benefits as well as their risks. Today, an increasing number of families and teens are turning vegan due to health, animal welfare, and environmental reasons. But whatever the reason may be, it is important to take a look at your physical requirements and personal beliefs before you begin. “Being vegan can mean different choices for different people. For some, it is a strict dietary choice while for others it is a compassionate lifestyle.” Traditional Indian dishes are usually vegan; meat and dairy-free Made up of only plant-based products, a vegan diet avoids everything animal food-related, including products and by-products like meat, dairy, eggs, and honey. They are low in saturated fats and rich in nutrients. Its health benefits include stabilizing weight, enhancing the heart, reducing the risk of diabetes, and defending against cancer. If planned well, a vegan diet can provide a wide range of essential vitamins, minerals, healthy fats, and protein as well. On the other hand, those who incorporate a strict vegan lifestyle do not use any kind of animal product in any form, be it fabric or fashion. They eliminate using or wearing silk, wool, leather, fur, and even soaps or cosmetics made out of animal products. People who are mindful of a sustainable environment usually follow this kind of lifestyle. When it comes to veganism, people follow it to different extents. A number of vegans go for the healthiest alternatives in their diet. In a typical Indian household, dairy products like ghee, paneer, yogurt, etc. which are high in calcium, are consumed on a regular basis. To switch them to vegan alternatives, one can go for non-dairy products like tofu, chickpeas, broccoli, and lentils, which are plant sources of calcium. Lentils are also a great source of vegan protein. Some studies suggest that vegans have the lowest intake of calcium. To tackle this, many alterna-milks like soy milk and almond milk, which are fortified with calcium and vitamin D can be consumed. Moreover, adding plenty of fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, and seeds to your diet will provide important vitamins and minerals. Plant-based milks and a plethora of fruits and veggies that are high in protein, calcium, and fibre are consumed There is also a thin line between veganism and vegetarianism. Veganism is seen as a stricter form of vegetarianism and more of a lifestyle movement than a dietary one. It’s important to know that while a vegan diet is healthy overall, with benefits like lowering cholesterol and blood pressure among many, it comes with the risks of short-changing you on a few nutrients like Vitamin B12, which is found only in animal products. You may need a supplement to make up for what you don't get from your diet. You can start slow by following trends like Veganuary, where you can go vegan for a month. Or go vegetarian and then slowly move on to a vegan diet. Look up healthier alternatives to meat and dairy and follow a balanced diet. If you are morally passionate about the environment and animal welfare, live a vegan lifestyle by shopping for vegan clothing retailers. You can be a part of the movement in small, but significant ways. In the end, make your call towards an alternative way of living. #Veganism #Vegan #HealthyLifestyle #VeganDiet #Fitness SEARCH Countdown To History: Omega Unveils Paris 2024 Olympics Countdown Clock And Special Edition Timepiece LIFESTYLE Juggling Law And Fashion: The Inspirational Journey Of Riddhi Nahata, A Multifaceted Influencer LIFESTYLE Join Shruti Yogi On Her Enchanting Journey From Kumkum Bhagya To Wanderlust Saga LIFESTYLE Personal Growth And Relatability: Ishita Khanna's Key To Influencer Success LIFESTYLE 6 Disadvantages Of Being Pretty LIFESTYLE POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement By Shrinivas Kodape Fast Times In Pune: Tracksuits, Dreams And A Dash Of Madness At Sports Con 2025 29 April 2025 LIFESTYLE By Aarti Singh The Audi A6: A Legacy Born From Rebellion And Refined Through Innovation 1 March 2025 LIFESTYLE By Sakshi Batra Glam Extravaganza 2025: Pune And Mumbai’s Influencers Compete For The Ultimate Spotlight 27 February 2025 LIFESTYLE By Anushka Uniyal Ice, Speed And Records: Porsche Taycan GTS Drifts Into History 27 February 2025 LIFESTYLE RELATED POSTS Advertisement
- Exposing Skin Care Myths Through A Dermatologist
By Anushka Sharma By Anushka Sharma Exposing Skin Care Myths Through A Dermatologist 18 June 2024 BEAUTY Advertisement Advertisement Are you someone who spends a lot of time on social media, especially looking at skincare trends? I admit I've done that, and sometimes it leads to buying things I don't need. While some trends are good, others might not be so great for your skin. Here are five skincare trends you might have seen online that aren't as helpful as they seem: 1. Flax Seeds for Wrinkles: Have you seen people making masks with flax seeds to tighten their skin? Well, it might make your skin feel nice for a little while, but it's not like getting Botox. Botox actually relaxes certain muscles in your face, while flaxseed masks just hydrate your skin temporarily. 2. Garlic for Pimples: Some folks say eating garlic can clear up acne, but that's not entirely true. Garlic does have some good properties, but it won't magically make your pimples disappear. Using skincare ingredients like salicylic acid and niacinamide is a better bet. 3. Face Flooding for Oily Skin: If you've got oily skin, you might have heard about "face flooding" to give your skin extra moisture. But for some people, it just makes them look sweaty and can even cause more breakouts. It's not a one-size-fits-all solution. 4. Collagen Masks: Those masks that melt into your skin might look cool, but they don't do much for you. Collagen in skincare can't really get absorbed into your skin like that. It might make your skin feel hydrated, but that's about it. 5. SPF Madness: We've all heard that higher SPF means better protection from the sun, right? Well, not necessarily. Too much SPF can make your skin oily, and anything beyond SPF 50 doesn't add much extra protection. Plus, you still need to reapply it often. So, next time you see a skincare trend online, take it with a grain of salt. It's always best to talk to a dermatologist before trying something new on your skin. - The USA Is Almost Giving Up On TikTok, And Here Is Why
The USA Is Almost Giving Up On TikTok, And Here Is Why By Anushka Sharma The USA Is Almost Giving Up On TikTok, And Here Is Why 15 March 2024 LIFESTYLE Advertisement In the ever-evolving landscape of social media, few platforms have captured the hearts and screens of users quite like TikTok. From viral dances to comedic sketches, TikTok has become a global phenomenon, with its user base skyrocketing to over 170 million in the United States alone. However, behind the curtain of seemingly innocent cat videos and lip-sync challenges lies a brewing storm of geopolitical tension and national security concerns. The latest chapter in the TikTok saga unfolds in the hallowed halls of the US House of Representatives, where lawmakers have recently passed a bill that could spell trouble for the app and its Chinese parent company, ByteDance. The bill, aptly named the "Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act," aims to force ByteDance to divest from TikTok or risk being booted out of US app stores altogether. But why all the fuss? Well, it boils down to one word: trust. Or rather, the lack thereof. US legislators have voiced concerns that TikTok's close ties to the Chinese government could compromise user data and national security. With China's track record of tight control over its tech companies and its infamous "Great Firewall" restricting access to Western social media platforms, the fear is that TikTok could be used as a tool for surveillance or propaganda. These concerns have been exacerbated by TikTok's meteoric rise to prominence, fueled by its addictive algorithm that seems to know exactly what content users want to see before they even know it themselves. This uncanny ability to capture and retain users' attention has raised suspicions about the true intentions behind the app's development and operation. In response to mounting pressure from US lawmakers, TikTok CEO Shou Chew has adamantly denied any allegations of wrongdoing, insisting that ByteDance is a private company not under the thumb of the Chinese Communist Party. However, skeptics remain unconvinced, pointing to China's 1 percent stake in ByteDance and its control over one of the company's board members as evidence of deeper ties. As the battle over TikTok rages on, it has become a microcosm of broader tensions between the US and China. With Washington increasingly wary of Beijing's growing influence on the world stage, TikTok has become a convenient target for politicians looking to flex their muscles and protect national interests. But what does all this mean for TikTok's legions of devoted users? Well, for now, it's business as usual. The bill passed by the House of Representatives does not explicitly ban TikTok outright but rather gives ByteDance six months to divest its ownership. However, some observers argue that this is essentially a death sentence for the app, as finding a buyer willing to navigate the treacherous waters of US-China relations may prove to be an insurmountable challenge. Despite the uncertainty surrounding its future, TikTok remains defiant, with supporters rallying behind the platform in the name of free speech and digital innovation. Whether TikTok will emerge victorious or succumb to the pressures of geopolitical brinkmanship remains to be seen. But one thing is for certain: the battle for TikTok's soul is far from over, and the stakes have never been higher. So, grab your popcorn and stay tuned for the next twist in this captivating tale of politics, power, and social media supremacy. What do you think? Do you think the era of TikTok has finally come to an end? - Labels are to be stuck on goods, not on people
SOCIETY by Aparajita Jaiswal Labels are to be stuck on goods, not on people 1 June 2021 SOCIETY Advertisement Advertisement Labels, growing up we’ve heard this word for over a thousand times, put the label on chart honey, the price is on the label sir, and many more diverse examples. The thing that we learned the hard way, was that those labels are also stuck on our bodies, our existence, and our whole selves. And the worst part is that these petty labels are stuck by someone else. Human society has an integral concept of putting labels on things they have no say in, things that they should not bother themselves with yet they do engage in this activity. The intrinsic need to have that much control over everything comes out of habit, out of the need to stay with one another in the early stages of human development. But, as time grew, and our bodies evolved and left these inseparable marks in the construct of societies. These labels are put on us right from the minute we are born, the minute our little bodies leave our mother’s safe womb there awaits the band of labels waiting to be stuck on our bodies. This band of labels prolifers into a herd as we grow up. The primary labels are divided into the binary gender system that society believes to be solely existing in this world. Being any of the two genders, there are expectations that our society has from us. A little girl must learn to be polite, silent, and obedient. A teenage girl must be an expert at cooking, staying away from a sparkling social life, and most importantly should be homebound. A woman on the other hand must be fostering every person in her family and should prioritize everyone above her. When they fail to perform even one of these expectations they are suddenly labeled as ungrateful, selfish, and self-centered. Little boys are taught that they should not cry, for crying is the virtue of a girl. Teenage boys are conditioned to choose a career path that could land them tons of money. A man on the other hand should be robust, they should be quick to change a tire at the roadside, they should take care of every financial need whatsoever. Similarly, when they fail to uphold these virtues that society has their tags to hook on you, labels to stick to your existence, and judgments to lay off. Men are called feminine, irresponsible, and a lot of other slangs challenging their manhood if they go against the architecture of societal emotions. The question arises in curious minds that why do these labels exist, why they have been nurtured over centuries, why these things were not removed when we got educated enough? The problem is when we evolved from our biological needs into functioning independent adults, there was always a trace of knowledge that was missing in our minds. All of these attributes that we were subjected to, once used to serve humans as their boat in this sea of life. The glitch is that they didn’t know we could swim through this ocean with our very own hands and legs. That this life is just an act of self-dependence was a very later discovery, until then damage was done. The man had developed an ego, status, and the fact that some people were going against the piece of information they sought was offensive to them. As a result, they started oppression of people they thought could go out of their hands. they specified everyone’s virtues as they pleased and decided labels to ascertain when people don’t obey. Their first target was to suppress women, as they in their sense knew what an epitome of power she is. The one who can create a seed of life can surely rebel against them and show the world the right way. And to stop men from supporting them in any way, they traced a set of tags. Tags so nascent that they will cease the support at once. This seems like a plausible explanation for all these things. Apart from these binary labels, many labels are stuck to our existence in certain specific situations and beliefs. The LGBTQ community is the first slap to their binary understanding. There had and is still prevailing an incessant urge to demolish their community as non-existent, that their orientation is just blurred and that it is against God’s creation that they are living this sinful life. The next is the labels given on the basis of Skin color, the whites are supposed to be the fairer and better race than the darker. Their supremacy has no logical explanation in any terms but these labels still haunt society to this very day. These realms of labels and tags don’t cease, it is present at the vibrance of variants in each specific society. A notion should be held on whether these are required, whether they leave a good impact on one’s mental health, etc. The answers to any of these questions do not go affirmatively. There must be understanding that these labels are downright suicidal to someone, suffocating to others, and mind-numbing to one. We should understand that we are no one to label one person, it’s not a diagram of the nervous system to be labeled but a human being’s mental health that we play along the lines. Thus, it is our duty as a society to be vigilant and responsible to a person.
