  • The Revolutionary Fashion Bag Of 2024: Coperni Edition

By Rini Pathak The Revolutionary Fashion Bag Of 2024: Coperni Edition 7 March 2024 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement Success in the ever-evolving world of fashion, where trends change with the seasons, depends on one’s ability to stay current and creative. Coperni is one such brand that continuously pushes the limits of innovation and technology. Be it the year of 2023, when the designers of Coperni, Sebastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant showcased unique blend of modern styles with electronic gadgets, the Human Ai Pin being attached to lapels or the spraying of dress on the incredible Bella Hadid or even the bringing of robot dogs on the catwalk, Coperni have always been known for creating a stir at the Paris Fashion Week. This brand was founded in the year 2013 and have continued to be a revolutionary brand in the world of fashion. The latest and the most peculiar fashion accessory that has been launched by Coperni has been able to become the current talk of the town. I am talking here about the Air Swipe bag, created in collaboration with NASA. This bag is the brand’s newest take on its iconic Swipe Bag silhouette. It weighs just 33 grams overall and is constructed from the lightest solid substance in the world—99% air and 1% glass. The team was seen clarifying in an Instagram post published by the brand which stated, “nanomaterial has been used by NASA to capture stardust: because it can withstand extreme heat (1200o Celsius) and a pressure of 4000 times its weight. This Air Swipe bag is the biggest ever object made if this space technology nanomaterial.” The post goes on to say that silica aerogel, a nanomaterial, is the “glass of the future” and that despite being “very delicate,” the bag is actually “non-fragile.” Professor Ioannis Michaloudis created the bag, which measures 27 by 16 by 6 cm. NASA’s silica aerogel nanomaterial was first created and studied in the context of fine art by Dr. Ioniss Muchaloudis, a Greek academic, visual artist, and researcher who is renowned throughout the world as one of the pioneers in the fields of science and art. Coperni continues to be dedicated to designing the future of the fashion industry with this statement. With this invention Coperni has been able to prove that sky is actually the limits and maybe in the future it may even invent something which might showcase that even sky is not the limit. Now the question here, my beautiful readers is that is this bag the next most sustainable, fashionable and desirable thing in the fashion industry? Well, that only time shall tell which we all are looking forward to. • If you can dream it, you can achieve it – In conversation with Donal Bisht

by Aadhya Venkatesh If you can dream it, you can achieve it – In conversation with Donal Bisht 21 August 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement Advertisement As a big believer in dreaming big and working hard to achieve your dreams, Donal Bisht was a Journalist and Anchor who pursued her dream of acting and modelling. In college, her seniors pursuing film studies always called her to work in their short films and music videos. Despite being pushed towards being an actor, Donal believed she wanted to pursue the media industry and work as a journalist. She even established herself in the field with a four-year-long career but eventually realised that "the work did not make my heart happy and did not satisfy me". It was then that she dropped everything and came to Mumbai to pursue her passion for acting. "I really believe in destiny". She has been in the show business for five years and has only been climbing the ladder of success. Having started with TV shows, Donal did four years of back-to-back TV with shows like Ek Deewana Tha and Roop . She then realised that to achieve creative satisfaction, she had to do something different. "I did a South bilingual film in Kannada and Telugu. The shift, I would say creatively, is great when you do different things", she said. She never knew Telugu and didn't have any exposure to the language. But after multiple workshops and extra efforts on sets, she managed to get well versed in the dialogues and expressions. "I used to keep the first AD with me to do the lines thoroughly, in and out". She broke through the language barrier and had her proud moment when people asked her if she was a natural Telugu speaker. Now that her film is in the post-production stage, Donal is excited to see herself in the role. Once her film was on the verge of completion, she entered the Big Boss house and became one of the most respected contestants in her two weeks there. "People come to me and say they want to become like me and love my personality". Having done four back to back soap shows, she now wants to venture into the world of web shows, which she is doing through her MX player original Show, Zakhm. Zakhm is a "romantic thriller show where I play Kavya, a healer who heals people's wounds". She is excited about the release of the show. Donal is also a TEDx speaker and always urges her fans to dream. "Dreaming is very important. If you can dream, you can achieve". She says that once a person has an unrelenting dream that they strive to achieve, persistence will take them forward on their journey. Those who dream can achieve whatever they aspire to. The one mantra she follows in life is to leave no stone unturned. She believes that persistence is critical and that a person should never stop. "First try to fly. If you can't fly, run. If you can't run, walk. If you can't walk, crawl, but you do the best". Running and Weight Lifting are her preferred modes of workout. She runs on the treadmill for 20 minutes a day and believes that fitness is what you eat, and one must take care of what suits them and what doesn't. Along with exercise, she also recommends her audiences watch their food intake and monitor what they eat because, more often than not, it is a particular fruit, vegetable, or seafood that causes allergies and bloating. "Observe your body and the way it reacts to food". Donal's favourite travel destination is her family home in Delhi, where she goes for all significant occasions. Other than that, one place she hopes to visit soon is Paris, which is her second favourite place. #donalbisht #coverstory #interview #fashion #actress SEARCH Karishma Kotak Playing Her Innings In Fashion, Sports And Fitness COVER STORIES Musings With Maryam Zolghadr COVER STORIES Madhura Naik talks about the Life of an Actress COVER STORIES Kavya Thapar And Her Versatile Acting Career That Cuts Across Regional Lines COVER STORIES Ahsaas Channa Talks About Her Mother Being The Inspiration Behind Her Career COVER STORIES POPULAR POSTS Advertisement By Anushka Sharma Dialogues That Never Disappoint With Actor Saqib Ayub 4 April 2024 COVER STORIES by Anjali Educate, Empower, Excel: Priyanka Chahar Choudhary's Inspirational Overture 15 November 2023 COVER STORIES by Akshra Khandelwal Purab Kohli’s Cinematic Expedition Through Films, Travel And Self-Expression 22 September 2023 COVER STORIES by Aparajita Jaiswal Exploring The Path Of Aspiring Actors And Producers: Insights From Anil Singh Chandel 6 September 2023 COVER STORIES RELATED POSTS Advertisement

  • Ritabhari Chakraborty talks about her adopted school, The Ideal School for the deaf

by Aparajita Jaiswal Ritabhari Chakraborty talks about her adopted school, The Ideal School for the deaf 24 September 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement Advertisement The beautiful, smart and accomplished actress, Ritabhari Chakraborty, talks to Editor-in-chief, Aparajita Jaiswal in a freewheel chat about her latest film Fatafati, which is centred around body positivity. The actress excitedly exclaims that the film is in her mother tongue, Bengali. With the shooting wrapped up, the film is due to release in merely a few days, creating much anticipation in the minds of Ritabhari's adoring fans. The film is about a plus sized or rather a double XL model's journey and how she breaks the norms of “fashion” that we believe in; that women should have a certain kind of a body to be in fashion. The film talks about how girls should not measure their happiness and health by the stereotypical body shown in films. Ritabhari excitedly says, "this is the project that I'm currently looking forward to the most and want everybody to also look forward to with me." With an industry that is so unbelievably hard to make a mark in, each artist faces the trouble of understanding and bearing with the process. Ritabhari gives her perspective on the matter. "I think anyone who's starting off in the industry, in the film industry, the first thing you should know is acting. A lot of people think if you look good, if you're pretty, if you have a certain presence, that that's enough to become an actor. Trust me, that's absolutely not true! The first thing you need to know is how to act, second is you need to know that there are going to be days when you have no work and you have to be okay with it when you see your other friends, your colleagues people of your profession who are getting jobs when you're not as much patience is the key. You have to know in advance that there will be days when you just have to be patient and believe in yourself. "Thirdly, you have to carve your own path of whatever success means to you, whatever you are meant to do as an actor because every actor is different. Every personality is different. If you're aspiring to be Katrina Kaif, you cannot be Katrina Kaif because she is her. If you're aspiring to be Alia Bhatt, but you cannot be Alia because she is her. You have to aspire to be something that's original. That's the only way you can be seen and heard by people, because when they already have an Alia Bhatt who is so incredible, why would they want another one?," Ritabhari says correctly. Ritabhari played a woman priest in the film Brahma Janen Gopon Kommoti, a film that focused on menstruation and how when are not impure. "I think I get personally attached to all my roles. My last super hit film, Brahma Janen Gopon Kommoti, where I've played a women priest, broke so many norms as it spoke about menstruation and how women are not impure. The film broke such taboos, giving so many women the platform to become women priests. This is something that will always be very close to my heart, so I think I'm very attached to my character Shabari." Ritabhari talks about the challenges one might face in the industry, one of them being comparing yourself with others, their successes and their journey. "I think when everyone is doing so much that you tend to compare yourself and your journey to other people, and I really feel like that can be a real heartbreaker and a real problem in your way because your journey has to be yours. If you keep comparing yourself, you'll never be happy and you'll never be grateful for the work you are getting. Ritabhari is a riveting book enthusiast. Her inspiration spans from Indian and Loiuse Hay to Shonda Rhimes’ book “The year of yes" to Shonda Rhimes as a producer, writer and Oprah Winfrey but especially her mother. As an actress, she looks up to Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra amongst many more. "Deepika Padukone is such a huge inspiration. Priyanka Chopra, the more you say, you still turn up short. Women in the business are surviving through this patriarchal and hard business. I get inspired by women every single day." Ritabhari Chakraborty adopted the Ideal school for the deaf when she was merely 16. She expresses how it has been a life changing journey as it keeps her grounded. Ritabhari strongly feels her purpose is more than being an actor and she feels proud to be the mother of 84 children. "When I was a kid, I realized that I can technically change the lives of these children and took it up and I'm so glad I did. This is one thing I'll always be proud of. More than how grateful they should be or they are of me, I am more grateful to be their parent, their foster guardian because being their foster guardian means that I get to make changes in the lives of all these kids. I get to see them grow up and become something of their own. And they're so alienated in the society deaf children are as they have the toughest time adjusting to the world and to people, everyone else. They made me one of their own and that makes my heart melts. I celebrate everything with them, all festivals, my birthday, all of it. This is a blessing; God blessed me in the biggest way possible." Ritabhari Chakraborty comments on body positivity and says one need not fret about their body type whether it is healthy or skinny. We should be proud of our bodies as its god given and hereditary as well. As she works for a school for the deaf, she realises just how important it is to have everything functioning just right. It is a miracle that we have bodies that breathe for us and function correctly. Looking at movie stars, magazine covers and celebrities makes us think that that is how we should look. She believes it is important to break that mentality. Additionally, Ritabhari sends her love to all her fans, "Thank you so much for loving me. Thank you so much for being part of my journey and the life I lead, what I do, my achievements, my failures, all of which I put in front of you and you get to see. One of the reasons I do not shy away from anything, whether it be posting about my health conditions or mental health issues on social media and talking about it openly in interviews is because I want you to know I’m a human. I'm flawed just like you and I'm perfect and amazing just like you. So if I can inspire even a small margin of people, women especially, to be themselves, work hard and achieve their dreams, I think that would mean a lot to me." Women in the business are surviving through this patriarchal and hard business. I get inspired by women every single day. • Waluscha De Sousa On Being Her ‘True Self’ And Going On The Dream Journey

by Panav Minocha Waluscha De Sousa On Being Her ‘True Self’ And Going On The Dream Journey 29 December 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement Advertisement Waluscha De Sousa is an Indian actress and model who made her debut into Bollywood in the 2016 film Fan. She was recently in the Hindi-language thriller on Sony Liv-Tanaav. Waluscha made her debut into the fashion and modeling industry at the early age of 16. When asked the pros and cons of this early venture into the world of glamour, she replied that she didn’t plan at first to start working at 16. However, she just happened to be discovered at that age by the late fashion designer Wendell Rodricks, and felt extremely fortunate to have worked under his guidance. “He held my hand and never let go. I was very very lucky and very very fortunate to have someone like him (Wendell)”, she said. Having achieved milestones early on in her career, Waluscha mentioned how she became the face of Wendell’s clothing brand, got to be on the cover of a Femina magazine at the age of 17, and starred in a Pepsi commercial with Shah Rukh Khan at the same age. She also talked about how she went onto becoming MTV’s fresh face, and walked in the first Lakm é fashion week in India. She expressed immense gratitude towards Wendell Rodricks for all these achievements. “I owe him so much. So much of what I am today wouldn’t have been possible without him. For me, the journey was smooth with a few bumps along the way, but when I look back I’m just very grateful for having somebody like that in my life.” Waluscha comes from a mixed cultural background, being half Goan-Portuguese (from her father’s side) and half German (from her mother’s side). She was asked how this affected her career, and if it hampered it in any way. Her response: “Yes and no. I inherited my mother’s external appearance. This helped me immensely in the glamour industry. Although, I am inherently very much Indian and I’ve inherited this from my father.” She explained how India and Indian culture played a huge role in her life. “I was born and brought up in India, studied in India, and have my friends and family here.“ On the other hand, Waluscha also talked about some hardships she faced in the film industry. “Unfortunately I didn’t see the same embrace in the film industry. There was this preconceived notion in everybody’s heads that I was not Indian and didn’t speak the language, or I’m not desi, when it’s actually quite the contrary.” She said that she knew how to read and write in not only Hindi, but having grown up in Goa, was fluent in Marathi and Konkani just as well. “All the work that I’ve done in web-series and films has helped me break this notion.” Starting her career as a model, Waluscha only later ventured into the film industry. When asked if this was always her goal or if it happened inevitably, she replied that acting was something she always wanted to do. “The arts were something which always attracted me. Goa is a land filled with singers, musicians, and theatre. I was always drawn to the stage, and you would have seen me on the stage much more than you would see me in the classroom. It was a space that I really enjoyed and it was always inherently who I was. “ Waluscha also appeared to be incredibly enlightened by the response that her latest series- Tanaav, has received. “Tanaav has helped me break the notion that I am in some way un-Indian much more than any of my other work done in the past. The response that has come in post Tanaav has been overwhelming. I cannot even describe the feeling. Two days post it’s release, suddenly everyone knew my name, people who matter actually saw and appreciated my work…” Tanaav is a Hindi-language action thriller streaming on Sony Liv, revolving around conflict in the Kashmir Valley. It is a remake of the Israeli TV series Fauda, which is streamed internationally on Netflix. Waluscha plays the role of Zainab Riaz in the show. • Genderless Fashion Hits Indian Markets

by Himanshi Sharma Genderless Fashion Hits Indian Markets 15 February 2023 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement ‘Anytime you are putting barriers in your life, you are limiting yourselves’ - Harry Styles Since the 1970s, gender has been a "social construct." We know that fashion trends vary over time, and the same is true of gender norms. Now that gender fluidity is acknowledged by society, the fashion industry believes it to be fascinating. Fashion has no boundaries. As the name suggests, gender-fluid fashion defies all preconceived notions and infuses people with a fresh sense of self-assurance. Many prominent celebrities and models have already made a remarkable effect on the public by subtly highlighting the fact that ‘it is not gender that should have an impact on one’s wardrobe but it is the comfort and elegance that should prevail.’ Just Vogue-ing It Iconically Harry Styles, an English singer, songwriter, and actor, enraged the crowd with his outfit selection for the Vogue cover. He was the first man to appear on the solo cover of Vogue, therefore he chose an outfit that best complemented him. When questioned, he responded that he has always had a preference for such clothing. He disproved a number of socially built preconceptions with simply a cover. According to him, setting boundaries merely serves to hinder one from experiencing the outside world. His supporters and the fashion industry questioned and discussed his unique clothing style. Is fashion merely clothes, or does it push the boundaries of society by developing broader social convictions? Is a person's gender determined by their clothing? Is a person's gender determined by their clothing? Is the pace of fashion industry trends accelerating to the point where people are unable to follow them? Well, Harry's surprise left his followers speechless. According to him, the clothes he wears just reflect his personal style and fashion preferences and not gender. But what about India? Gender-Fluid Fashion in Indian Markets It would not be wrong if one implies that genderless clothing was mainstream in ancient India. • 8 Teenage Girl Fashion Ideas For Your First Date

by Yashi Srivastava 8 Teenage Girl Fashion Ideas For Your First Date 11 February 2023 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement Imagine this. You are finally going on your first date, and you have so many outfit ideas hovering inside your brain. From make-up to hair to footwear and your attire, there is so much to do and prepare for, right? But if you worry about your ensemble, when will you revel in the excitement of going on your first date? Well, this is the part where we step in. Even though there is no doubt that you will wear something swoon-worthy on your date, we want you to make (read-create) a fashion statement! To help you with the same, we have curated a list of some spectacular fashion ideas that not only scream style but also whisper class. Check these ideas below and let us know how you like them! 1. Throw in the colors According to many stylists, the best colors to wear on a date are black, blue, red, and white. While we agree with them, we want you to experiment with many yellows, oranges, and greens. For example, how about exhibiting this bright yellow skirt with a floral yet funky slim jacket and casual white top? You can match the same with super-chic sneakers or black heels as well. Extra points for leaving your hair open and carefree with those stylish shades and minimal make-up. If you like this combination, you would love this printed dress that encompasses countless colors that are vibrant in every sense of the world. Pairing this dress with either loose hair or a relaxed fishtail would give you a look with this feminine dress. The look will quadruple your style statement if you wear heeled boots in a shade of brown. You must, however, always choose to wear shoes that you feel comfortable there. You got the idea, right? 2. Keep it simple but sexy Many teen girls don’t appreciate the idea of garnering too much attention on their first date. It is quite understandable since you are only breaking into the dating world. So, it is excellent to keep it soft, supple, and straightforward, but to make a statement of your own; you have to make it all sexy. So, how about this gorgeous combo of a brick-red halter top and linen high-waisted black skirt? It is simple, comfy, and subtle with a touch of sexy, and that’s precisely how you would like it! With this pairing, you can make a loose plait or twist and fold your hair while letting them go wherever they want. To add a pinch of calm, you wear converse with visible socks or classy flats, peep toes, or simple heels to go with it. Here’s another idea for you to bring sexy with your simple! All you have to do is get your hands on a grey or a dull-brown fit and flare dress and fuse it with a lace shrug. You can also accentuate the look by wearing thin-rimmed glasses with elegant earrings, a pretty necklace, or a choker. An elegant anklet won’t hurt when paired with casual chappals or flats. 3. Monotone Aesthetic When nothing makes sense, go mono! In other words, you can never go wrong with a monotone dress, co-ed, or whatever keeps your vibe flowing. For example, check out this gorgeous all-pink bodycon dress coordinated with silver-rimmed black sunglasses. You can choose the shades that go well with your face and leave your hair open, clip them up, or go for a loose bun. Now the footwear could be anything from flats to wedges to heels and even white Nike sneakers to go with it – you will look spectacular in any of those! About the make-up part, we’d tell you to choose dark and smoky eyes with nude lipstick, and you would blow their minds! 4. Class it up with layers! Every young girl knows how classy it is to ensemble your fashion statement in layers and how challenging it is to pull them off on your first date! If you want to do it right, here’s another idea! Our pick is this shoulder tunic blouse blended with a stunning corset belt. Wear khaki trousers or regular jeans for the bottom, and you will be good to go! We believe you can go for sneakers or stompers with this one, but many girls would love to wear elegant flats with flowy trousers or so! With this one, you can add charm bracelets, hoop earrings, a nose pin, or a watch. Minimal make-up with nude lips is undoubtedly the way to go with! Not to forget, a messy or top bun would amp up this look, but we believe it is eventually the style you feel most comfortable in! 5. Black is the color of all seasons Finally, a fashion idea all teenagers will agree on! Black, and it is, by all means, the color of every season in all fashions! So, what would be an ideal black fit for a perfect date night? Let’s start with this easy and comfortable fit that you can quickly put together – a casual black top paired with a long pleated skirt and sleek black belt that adds extra oomph to the entire ensemble. Your whole aura would scream with a new class genre when paired with ankle-length and high-heeled boots - bonus points for carrying this look with pixie-cut, Harry Potter’s dark-rimmed circular glasses, and dark lips. Since we are talking about the color of all seasons, it would be only fair to add ideas to your wardrobe. So, let’s go for a look that would work breathtakingly well on a winter night. You must get a body-hugging top and wear it with black tights or skinny-fit jeans with knee-length black boots. The charm of this outfit would be an Italian wool-mix jacket, and you would be good to go! We recommend red lipstick to go with the look since it will make you glow under the moonlit night. How about throwing a woolen scarf around your neck as well? The choice is yours, by all means! 6. Elegance goes a long way, even as a teenager! Whether you are 18 or 30, elegance will never leave the building! So, we decided to suggest some simple yet impressive ways to carry your grace where ever you go – especially if it’s the first date of your life! Here is an example of the same. Dirty blue full-sleeved lace top tucked in a dark blue maxi skirt. Let’s not forget the white-rimmed tinted sunglasses that add adventure to the entire fit! Trust us; you won’t go wrong with this one. Go ahead and add your style to your hair or choose between free-flowing locks or a braided bun and rock the whole look with a stiletto in your choice of color. When talking about elegance, we certainly cannot leave this look behind. This gorgeous black fit crop top and cut out mustard skirt is thus far, our favorite look for teenage girls going out on their first date. Don’t forget to amp the look up with those breathtaking dangler earrings and stilettos. Leave your hair open and put on pastel shades of shadow with heavy mascara and liner. You can leave the lips nude or a shade of pink and you would be good to go! 7. Cute girl casuals As a teenager, perhaps the most comfortable fashion statement would be to wear a pair of jeans with a white t-shirt and style your hair in a ponytail, and that’s it. Well, you are right, and it’s precisely what we expect you to do! Here’s the look for you! You can also pair up a little white dress with a leather jacket and black boots with no make-up and no accessory look. Trust us, and this won’t be your only date with them. Check out the look below. 8. Funky girl forever No matter the age, you must always channel the inner funky girl whenever the situation demands! And so, if you want to dress up with funk and blue and all that jazz on your first date, we’d say go ahead with it and make them wonder if they deserve you! For the funky girl fashion, here’s how we would dress you! The cut-sleeved faux fur gilet highlights this entire look but looks better when fused with a cream-colored - chanderi silk skirt. Let’s not take our eyes off the stunning leather boots that bring a suaveness to the entire look. Since you are a teenager, we would also recommend a no-make-up look for this look, but surely you can add a glittery eye shadow and heavy mascara on the eyes with this. Conclusion When it comes to style, there is no right way. It is always about the fashion you are comfortable carrying with confidence, class, and elegance. So, don’t worry if you think you cannot pull off particular looks like other girls – you are beautiful in your way. So, keep looking for your perfect look might be around the corner! Fashion for teenage girls shouldn't be just about clothes and style but also confidence, class, and smile. Blob - So, you are excited about your first date but have no idea what to wear on a particular day? Don’t worry; we have covered you with these eight stunning fashion ideas exclusively for teenage girls! The good thing is that each of these fashion statements is unique and different so that you can choose the ones that suit your personality the most - simple, monotones, vibrant, black, funky, elegant, classy - you name it, and this list has it! • Sushmita talks about SushDazzles, her YouTube channel

by Aparajita Jaiswal Sushmita talks about SushDazzles, her YouTube channel 1 October 2020 Advertisement Advertisement In a freewheel chat with Aparajita Jaiswal, Sushmita, a beauty influencer reveals that she recently hit 100k subscribers on her YouTube channel, SushDazzles. She is an introvert, optimist and a perfectionist, working towards making her dreams come true. As she grows, Sushmita would like to advocate sustainable and vegan options for beauty and skincare products. Sushmita, born and bred in Kolkata, is a beauty influencer with her very own YouTube channel, SushDazzles. She grew very quickly and is celebrating as she recently hit 100k subscribers on her YouTube channel. Sushmita creates celebrity inspired makeup looks and does product reviews on her YouTube channel. She jump-started her career from modelling and then decided to commence her very own YouTube channel, embarking on an independent journey towards being a beauty influencer. “I can unmistakably say that my subscribers inspired me to recreate celebrity looks,” Sushmita says. “I initially started with everyday makeup looks except for one or two random celebrity looks from time to time.” A few videos later she started recreating celebrity-inspired looks using affordable drugstore products. “I noticed in the analytics that many of my subscribers were Gen-Z and were too young to afford high-end products,” Sushmita reveals. Sushmita’s viewers started loving these tutorials and found them extremely helpful and her channel quickly started becoming popular. Sushmita is a typical night owl. She finds the calmness of the night inspiring enough to work on her videos. “A typical day in the week would look like lots of editing and ample number of shoots. I tend to fit in my workout at least thrice a week.” In the last two years, Sushmita has worked with multiple renowned Indian as well as international brands, majority of which are Swedish, American and Korean. “My primary focus is to introduce cruelty free, vegan, plant based and sustainable products to my audience, so whenever there’s an opportunity for me to work with such brands, I gladly accept.” She has worked with quite a few renowned makeup artists from Kolkata as a model. “I used to enjoy the process of getting ready for the shoot and was amazed by their finesse and artistry. It was then that I took an interest in makeup. Next thing I knew, I was watching a lot of YouTube makeup videos. I became familiar with the makeup techniques and terminologies. And my interest kept growing. Meanwhile, I decided to quit my job and start my YouTube channel.” There are multiple things everyone should keep in mind while working in the tough industry of influencers and in the digital world. According to Sushmita, patience, hard work and passion pays off in the end. “Like any other creative field, the most important thing is patience. Then comes hard work and you need to have passion for what you do. You need to love what you are doing and not look at it as a job.” “When I started, I had no experience of creating digital content. The first time I saw the interface of my editing software I started crying and I swear I thought I couldn’t do it. Then I pushed myself because failure was not an option for me. I made innumerable mistakes and I learned a lot from them. I don’t think I would have done anything differently considering the knowledge I have gained from these experiences.” “Coming up with new content is always one of the most challenging parts of the job. Also, since I review a lot of new products, I always run a risk of using something that might not suit me and hence damage my skin.” The number one key to success in the business is to be yourself, Sushmita says. “There is no one like you and that’s your super power. You will find your tribe and people will love you for who you are. My family has been the pillar of strength for me. And I have been reading this book called ‘The untethered Soul’ which is all about the spiritual awakening and the path of spiritual consciousness. The book greatly influenced my strength as well.” Sushmita talks about failures in the most positive manner. “I don’t treat anything as a failure. I treat it as a learning curve. There are times when I do feel a little demotivated, and there are ups and downs, but that feeling is only momentary. Instead of feeling bad about it I start analysing what went wrong and make sure to do it differently in future.” Competition in this industry can get tough, especially on the mind. “The only competition I have is with my own self. What I create today should be better than what I created yesterday. However if things get tough, I take a break, meditate and it helps me re-evaluate the situation, try to see things from a different perspective. The rat race might overwhelm you sometimes. It’s important to set yourself in the right direction.” Sushmita affirms that there is no particular skincare routine she follows to make sure her skin stays healthy and glowing. She tries various products on her review videos therefore constantly changing the products that she uses. Other than the products she uses on her skin, there are a couple of things she constantly keeps in mind throughout the day when it comes to her skincare. “I wash my face twice a day, morning and night, and mainly focus on cleansing and moisturizing. I make sure to use a good moisturizer and sunscreen during the day and vitamin-C serum at night. Other than the basics, my diet takes care of the rest.” Sushmita is a very mindful shopper and plans way before she shops. “I pick a store and then go for it. My favourite high end brands are Smashbox and Huda Beauty. I always wanted to try Charlotte Tilbury. Although, I don’t have any brand that I can’t stand, I wish all brands were cruelty free and Vegan. As I grow, I would like to advocate sustainable and vegan options. Apart from makeup videos I have also created contents on mental health, body shaming, colour differentiating, depression and positivity. I want my audience to be confident about themselves. I wish to create meaningful content so that it adds value to their lives.” Sushmita’s Beauty Gurus are Chloe Morello and Kaushal Beauty. “I love Chloe’s quirkiness and Kaushal’s simplicity. I feel Taylor Hill, Miranda Kerr and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley always have great makeup on. They always look very natural no matter how much makeup they have on. Their makeup is very glowy and dewy and very skin-like and that’s what I love!” When asked, what is the one item you would never leave your house without, she immediately replied, “I would have to say lip balm. I cannot live without a lip balm even for a second!” Sushmita is a huge Marvel fan and spends her time watching Netflix series or psychological thrillers when not held up with work. “I love watching The Big Bang Theory and Friends while having my lunch. I love watching educational YouTube videos where they talk about new scientific discoveries, quantum mechanics, thought experiments, paradoxes etc. I love to sing and I’m learning to play the Ukulele. I like acrylic painting on canvas. I love reading books. And I love checking out new eateries.” In a world full of people waiting to be inspired, Sushmita stands out as she is aspirational, talented and mind numbing brilliant. She is a young and independent woman taking the world on with mere talent and passion for what she believes in. • The Saga Of Saloni And The Rise Of GulaboJaipur

by Anushka Sharma The Saga Of Saloni And The Rise Of GulaboJaipur 8 March 2023 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement As each year passes, the world meets with more and more wins for women, and our nation is no exception to this phenomenon. From women being able to receive the accolades in various industries to witnessing them being employed in the rural part of India, this Women’s Day, we’re just happy to have come this far. To have reached corners and nooks that this nation has treasured since time immemorial. Narrating a tale as old as time(10 years ago), There once existed a brand that believed in building itself through embracing the heritage and craftsmanship of Rajasthan. It believed in exuding the best of Jaipur in particular, and soared high enough to carve a niche in the hearts of some Bollywood biggies. While the tale doesn’t end here, there’s a lot to catch up on GulaboJaipur . GulaboJaipur is so much more than a successful brand in today’s times. It represents how Saloni, the founder, saw the world of indigenous fashion through rose tinted glasses, and materialized all that she had once envisioned for her brand. If we take it long, long ago, it was Saloni’s mother who believed in her eye for design and gave her the capital to start the business. Needless to say, the capital has been wonderfully utilized and multiplied in paramount ways. GulaboJaipur has been casting its magic over the masses ever since its inception. It’s been 10 years since the brand gained momentum, and beautifully so, hasn’t stopped since. Situated in a region of India which is heavily diverse in beauty, customs and traditions, Saloni wanted to do more than just extract the cultural and aesthetic segment of Rajasthan. Along with curating some beloved pieces which were later cherished by Kareena Kapoor and various other celebrities of taste, she was also empowering the women of Rajasthan by offering them employment. “I try to employ more and more artisans from all parts of Rajasthan, such as Bagru, Sanganer, and many more. Each village in Rajasthan is different and each sub-region defines differences in craftsmanship. I also believe that women can live with more pride if they are financially independent.” - Saloni As something noteworthy that the brand has experienced in these few years, Saloni recalls how she jumped with joy when she had received an email from the Pataudi Palace. The email expressed Kareena Kapoor’s keen interest in shopping for maternity wear from GulaboJaipur . That incident played the role of a good luck charm in the business which later flourished amidst a lot of celebrities. The key-takeaway in this entire process of fashion stardom was how the brand was loved, appreciated and admired for its core values and design. As a brand that has existed for more than ten years, we didn’t expect Saloni to remember much about her very first collection. To our surprise, she has a vivid memory of every scaled-down detail of her first collection, from launching Anarkalis with broad gotta patti to her velvet scarves. If this doesn’t make one believe in the essence of a brand being the founder’s baby, we don’t know what will! Saloni also recalls how GulaboJaipur was earlier marketed and managed in terms of its sales by Saloni’s husband, and he indeed took the business to new, scalable, virtual heights. But do you know what differentiates GulaboJaipur from the multitude of labels that exist out there? Nothing. The sheer beauty of this brand is how it embraces everyday wear with so much grace and grandeur. Saloni puts it perfectly, “I believe in making clothes that are very sadabahar and can be worn anywhere and everywhere.” Well, she clearly has mixed a lot of chic-essence in these Sadabahar attires, and we indeed love every bit of it! Saloni’s saga of the revival of indigenous fashion in the most effortless way possible is worth admiration. Her story inspires and celebrates women on a similar rhythm. While the individuality and confidence with which she reigns her brand teaches us a lot about how it ultimately results in believing in oneself, her success as a fashion designer celebrates how a woman cherished her roots in her work at all times and yet took over the world by a storm!
