  • Atout By Dr. Supriya M: The Trailblazing Educator-Turned-Entrepreneur Redefining Saree Culture

Atout By Dr. Supriya M: The Trailblazing Educator-Turned-Entrepreneur Redefining Saree Culture By Sakshi Batra Atout By Dr. Supriya M: The Trailblazing Educator-Turned-Entrepreneur Redefining Saree Culture 12 March 2025 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement What happens when a passionate media educator decides to channel her love for tradition into fashion? When you think of Dr. Supriya M, it’s hard to place her within a single box. A passionate media educator, accomplished researcher, and now an ambitious entrepreneur, Dr. Supriya’s journey is nothing short of inspiring. Born and raised in Bangalore, she carved her academic path in journalism, earning a Ph.D. from the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism. Today, she is the dynamic Assistant Professor and Head of the Media Club at the Dalai Lama Institute for Higher Education. But her identity doesn’t end with her academic accolades. Dr. Supriya’s story reveals her evolution from an academic powerhouse to the visionary founder of “ Atout ,” a brand that is revolutionizing the way we perceive sarees. The Journey From Academia To Entrepreneurship For Dr. Supriya, the spark of entrepreneurship was ignited during her Ph.D. journey. A serendipitous moment occurred when she was required to wear sarees frequently. What could have been a mundane requirement turned into a revelation. As she explored the beauty of sarees, their fabrics, prints, and the stories they carry, she found herself captivated by their charm. It was this fascination with sarees, combined with her enduring love for natural fabrics, that planted the seeds for her entrepreneurial venture. “India is one of the largest exporters of cotton, and I’ve always been inspired by natural fabrics. Sarees, especially, make me feel comfortable, carefree, and stylish all at once,” she shares. Dr. Supriya firmly believes that sarees can effortlessly merge tradition with modernity. “People often associate trendsetting fashion with Western attire like jeans, tops, or skirts. But a saree? It’s sexy, elegant, and timeless—all in one,” she adds with a smile. Introducing Atout: More Than Just A Brand When it came to naming her brand, Dr. Supriya chose something unique - “Atout”, a French word meaning "An Asset." The name reflects her vision, to create sarees that are not just garments but treasured assets for every woman. Atout embraces traditional Indian culture while introducing modern design elements. Dr. Supriya’s love for mul cotton, natural dyes, and block printing forms the core of the brand. She envisions sarees that are free from chemicals, affordable, and versatile enough to fit into every woman’s wardrobe, from festive celebrations to casual outings. Atout: Tradition With A Twist Atout isn’t just about draping fabric; it’s about embracing heritage with a modern lens. Dr. Supriya’s designs are rooted in mul cotton, natural dyes, and block printing, ensuring sustainability while celebrating India’s rich textile legacy. Each Saree From Atout Tells A Story: Comfort Meets Elegance : Natural, chemical-free fabrics make Atout sarees a dream to wear. Bold Meets Beautiful : Vibrant hues, pastels, and timeless prints bring tradition into the 21st century. Affordable Luxury : Elegance doesn’t have to come with a hefty price tag—Atout makes beauty accessible to all. Breaking Stereotypes: Sarees As The Ultimate Fashion Statement Dr. Supriya’s philosophy challenges the notion that Western wear dominates modern fashion. “A saree can make you look fashionable, trendy, and powerful. It’s not just a garment; it’s a statement piece,” she asserts. Atout’s sarees aim to showcase how this timeless attire can be reimagined with unique concepts like pastel tones, vibrant hues, and intricate block prints, proving that tradition and trend can coexist beautifully. The Support System Behind Her Success Dr. Supriya credits her family’s unwavering support for her success. Coming from a respectable background -her father an IPS officer, she grew up in an environment that encouraged her to chase her dreams. “My family has always given me the freedom to fly with my wings,” she reflects fondly. On Competition: A Philosophy Of Self-Growth When asked about her competitors, Dr. Supriya’s response is as bold as it is refreshing. “I don’t see anyone as my competition. My only competitor is myself. If I’m satisfied with the quality of my products and my customers are happy, that’s enough for me,” she says with confidence. Future Aspirations: Building A Legacy Looking ahead, Dr. Supriya has ambitious plans for Atout. Her focus is on sustainability, customer satisfaction, and expanding the brand through multiple channels, including e-commerce platforms, multimedia promotions, and word-of-mouth publicity. For her, success is not just about sales, it’s about creating a product that makes people feel good about what they’re wearing. Her vision? To design more innovative fabrics using natural methods and introduce unique sarees that resonate with modern sensibilities while staying true to their roots. The Core Of Atout Dr. Supriya encapsulates her brand’s philosophy in three key principles: durability, affordability, and timeless style. Atout sarees are designed to make women look and feel their best, combining high-quality craftsmanship with natural, chemical-free materials. A Message To Women Everywhere Dr. Supriya’s journey is a testament to the power of passion, perseverance, and staying true to one’s roots. Through Atout, she aims to inspire women to embrace sarees not just as traditional attire but as a bold, versatile, and fashionable choice. As she puts it, “Sarees have been celebrated for centuries. They’re not just garments; they’re a symbol of our culture, our identity, and our ability to blend tradition with innovation. With Atout, I want to remind women that they don’t have to choose between looking trendy and honoring their roots - they can have both.” Dr. Supriya M’s story resonates with anyone who has ever dared to dream beyond the ordinary. From her academic achievements to her entrepreneurial journey, she is a living example of how passion and determination can lead to extraordinary heights. And with Atout, she’s proving that the saree is not just a relic of the past - it’s the future of Indian fashion. • Sandeepa Dhar: On Being Versatile and Learning from Mistakes

Sandeepa Dhar: On Being Versatile and Learning from Mistakes by JoNa Sandeepa Dhar: On Being Versatile and Learning from Mistakes 11 December 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement Sandeepa Dhar from Kashmir made her debut into Bollywood with the movie Isi Life Mein in 2010, from then it has been an upward journey for her. She has starred in multiple hit movies and critically acclaimed web series such as Abhay and Mai: A Mother’s Rage. Dhar has been nominated for the Filmfare Best Debut Actress, Star Screen Award for Most Promising Newcomer – female and the Stardust Award for Superstar of Tomorrow – Female. She opens up to us about the challenges she faced in the industry, her learning experiences in the shooting spots, her co-stars and her philosophy when it comes to life and work. The Pandemic has taught her not to plan things far ahead, she’s more conscious of the changes in the Bollywood industry and is ready to take one step at a time. She’s not in a hurry to the top. It is the process that appeals to her. “ Personal growth as an actor and as an individual is the most important for me. I think that's where I see myself going, I see myself evolving, changing, getting better and better with time.” Sandeepa Dhar is working on a new project, meanwhile she spoke to us about working on the sets of Kaagaz with the legendary actors Salman Khan, Pankaj Tripathi and Director Satish Kaushik. She shares a special relationship with Salman Khan, as she had already worked with him; and Tripathi according to her, is ‘an amazing and smashing human being.’ She quoted an incident where Kaushik came to her with a song and told her that it was about women empowerment, and that he would never shoot an item song or show women in a poor light. ‘It was reassuring and refreshing to see him talk like that,’ she said. “It was a wonderful experience working on Kaagaz, I'm extremely lucky that I get to work with such an amazing set of creative minds who've been in the industry for a really long time, who are so experienced, and at the top of the game. Ihope I get to work with them over and over again. Fingers crossed.” When asked about her experience so far in Bollywood, Dhar said that it is like a rollercoaster ride, having it’s ups and downs. She is extremely grateful to have worked in diverse roles, with multiple stars and franchises like Netflix and Hotstar. She is also ready to fight for and hope for more bigger, stronger roles and recognition. Looking forward to many more exciting opportunities, Dhar remains optimistic. “ …I feel like I'm also very grateful, because I have got an opportunity to work with some amazing set of people from Salman to Sajid Nadiadwala to Tiger to Kriti and Rajshri. Even with the web, I have gotten the opportunity to work with some brilliantly talented people; platforms from Netflix to Hotstar, the best in the game. I think it's been an interesting journey and I'm only very excited to see where it goes henceforth. Because I don't know myself where it leads me to, I don’t know how much I'm going to grow and evolve. No matter what, I'm really, really looking forward to the opportunities that I get henceforth and to the choices that I make ahead.” Working with Atul Mongia for the web series Mai has been a dream come true for Sandeepa Dhar. The series was produced by Clean Slate Filmz owned by Anushka Sharma and Karnesh Sharma. It was a critical and commercial success, and it impacted her personally and professionally as well says Dhar. She goes on to talk about her views on personal development and how she focuses on being a better person and artist, never comparing herself to anyone but herself. She strongly believe in personal growth, and looks forward to being a better version of her self both on and off screen. ‘People who compare their lives to others’ are quite narrow minded, as everyone’s journey is different,’ she adds. “. I feel like anyway, with the kind of lifestyles that we all have, we all need to look inward and work on our own selves, that's the only way that we can keep a straight head in this crazy world. Because, social media and people can play with your head and I think at this point, the only thing that can save you is your own self and knowing who you are and working on it. I think for me that is what is the most important.” For a final question, we asked her about the obstacles she has faced and her journey so far. She replied that being an outsider had been her first obstacle; she knew no one in the industry and had to work hard to land roles, to reach the relevant people. Since she had no one to guide her during her earlier days, everything was of ‘trial and error,’ method for her. She had to learn from her mistakes, sometimes she erred three four times, before learning her lesson. She also spoke about the ‘perception’ that people have about actors, which stereotypes them and thereby denying them of certain roles. This fight against people’s perception of her is a constant battle she says. “In this industry, the stereotyping is immense to an extent it’s quite ridiculous in a way because isn't it stupid that as an actor, you're putting people in boxes, according to the way they look. But as an actor, I should mould myself physically and emotionally as per the character. That is my job, right? I'm supposed to play a different character irrespective of what I look like, but the industry forces you to only play roles, which kind of suffice to what you look like physically. So, if I am, for example, fair and modern and good looking then, according to them, I would only fit in roles wherein the character is rich and from an affluent family or speaks English. I am honestly quite fed up with people thinking like that. I think there is that obstacle that I'm constantly fighting hence, if you look at my filmography, I'm always playing roles wherein the character is quite the opposite of what I am in person.” We ended the interview with a positive vibe, with Sandeepa Dhar asking the audience and readers to look forward to her movies and series, not because she is in them but because they’re worth watching. We are indeed looking forward to your next project Sandeepa Dhar! Wishing you all luck and success! • Breeze By Lebua State Tower: Duck Skin, Oolong, And The Distance Between Who You Are And Who You Were

By Shriniwas Kodape Breeze By Lebua State Tower: Duck Skin, Oolong, And The Distance Between Who You Are And Who You Were 9 September 2025 FOOD Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement I wasn’t looking for redemption. I just wanted to regale. Bangkok had been loud all day—sticky heat, tuk-tuks coughing up diesel prayers, and that electric chaos of a megacity that never completely lets you be alone. So when the elevator at Lebua opened onto the 52nd floor, and the night air slapped my face clean, I felt something close to stillness. The kind of stillness that usually comes right before something unforgettable—or tragic. And that’s when I saw it. A skybridge glowing violet, like a spinal cord to the stars. No signage. No shouting. Just the quiet confidence of a place that knows it doesn’t need to scream. Breeze by Lebua, perched in the clouds, is a temple to Chinese cuisine—bold, meticulous, and rooted more in memory than in trend. It isn’t just a dining spot. It’s a floating cathedral of soy, smoke, silence, and second chances. The first revelation came in the form of a salad. Not the limp, guilt-ridden afterthought of Western menus. No. This was Duck Salad—pomelo pearls gleaming like citrus caviar, crisp duck skin cracking under your chopsticks, plum sauce sweet but not syrupy, bitter greens and toasted pine nuts woven together like a quiet overture. It wasn’t a starter. It was a handshake from the chef. A challenge: “Are you ready for what’s coming?” And to wash it down? Bollinger Special Cuvée—lively and rich, like a polite punch to the throat. It cleared the palate and the mind in one swig. The duck didn’t stand a chance. I barely had time to reflect before the second act began. They asked if I wanted the Wok-Seared River Prawn in oolong soy or the steamed Tia Mara oyster with chili vermicelli. I looked at the waiter and said, “Why choose?” He didn’t blink. Just nodded and vanished. The Wok-Seared River Prawn arrived first—sizzling, lacquered in oolong, touched with young ginger and the kind of tea leaf you imagine monks hiding in mountaintop caves. It tasted like earth and elegance. Crisp edges, tender body, sauce like a slow-spoken poem. Paired with a clean, mineral Vermentino, it whispered of restraint. Of fire used wisely. Then came the oyster—a monster, bathed in fermented Hunan chili and tangled in glassy vermicelli. One bite and the heat unfurled, slow and sultry. It didn’t scream—it seduced. It left a burn in the throat and a smile on my face. A dish that doesn’t beg for approval. It assumes it. I was ready to tap out. But Breeze by Lebua was just getting warmed up. The steamed ruby fish came next. No fancy tricks. No drama. Just soft flesh, steamed to the edge of breaking, cloaked in black bean and white sesame, with a pickled chili sauce that teased rather than tortured. This was classic Chinese cuisine—filtered through a modern lens. Minimal. Precise. And paired with Chablis Premier Cru, it was silk meeting steel. Then the main course landed like a full stop. They offered me two options again: Wagyu beef with mui choy or charcoal-grilled lamb rack with XO sauce and ginger-scallion fried rice. I went with the lamb. Something about the smoke in the air told me it was the right call. The meat came blistered, nearly black at the edges, dripping with XO, black garlic, and unapologetic indulgence. It tasted like someone grilled heaven over hardwood. Fried rice? Fragrant with ginger, scallion oil glistening like streetlights on wet pavement. The whole plate buzzed with energy. It asked you to lean in. I took a sip of Silver Oak Cabernet, and suddenly, the night made sense. But then came the wagyu. (Yes, I had both. You knew that.) Marbled cubes of beef, sticky with soy, surrounded by trumpet mushrooms and bitter preserved greens. This wasn’t beef. This was memory foam for the soul. It didn’t demand your attention. It deserved it. By this point, Bangkok shimmered below like a wet painting. The wine was down to its last drops. I leaned back in the chair—full, foolish, and ready to call it a night. But Breeze by Lebua had one more card to play. Chocolate Banana. Sounds like a punchline. It wasn’t. Chocolate parfait, sable biscuit, banana caramel, banana ice cream, vanilla ganache—each element more indulgent than the last. But instead of overwhelming, it all came together in harmony. A soft, playful coda to a hard-hitting symphony. It wasn’t just dessert. It was forgiveness. For the city. For the heat. For the oyster I devoured too fast. For the version of myself that eats to forget. A final sip of 10-Year Tawny Port—warm and nutty—sealed the deal. I sat there in the quiet, chewing the skyline, sipping the last of something I didn’t earn, and thinking: This is why we go out. Not for calories. Not even for flavors. But for the feeling that somewhere out there, someone still gives a damn about doing it right. And when they do? The sky eats first. But you’re lucky enough to follow. • Ice, Speed And Records: Porsche Taycan GTS Drifts Into History

Ice, Speed And Records: Porsche Taycan GTS Drifts Into History By Anushka Uniyal Ice, Speed And Records: Porsche Taycan GTS Drifts Into History 27 February 2025 LIFESTYLE Advertisement Imagine drifting for over 17 kilometers, but on ice. Sounds impossible? Not for Porsche . When you think of cars with record-breaking drifts, screeching tires and clouds of smoke probably come to mind, right? But this time, Porsche turned up the chill with icy roads and hot wheels! On January 14, 2025, at the Porsche Arctic Center in Levi, Finland, the all-electric Porsche Taycan GTS made history by setting a new Guinness World Record for the longest drift on ice by an electric vehicle. The distance? A jaw-dropping 17.503 kilometers of continuous drifting on a slippery ice track. Now, that’s how you make an entrance! Commanding the wheel? Porsche Experience instructor Jens Richter, whose unmatched skills kept the Taycan GTS drifting incredibly for 132 laps around a 59-meter diameter ice circle. The previous record? 14.809 kilometers. Yes, you read that right. Porsche didn’t just break the record—they shattered it! Glide, Drift & Conquer! Let’s talk about adrenaline. The icy track threw a curveball but Team Porsche was more than ready to take it on. When the surface nearly gave way under the Taycan’s sheer power, backing down wasn’t an option. With precision and patience, Richter swiftly swapped out the tire spikes and waited for the perfect temperature drop and just like that—BOOM! The Taycan GTS roared back onto the track, delivering a flawless oversteer spectacle that earned Porsche its fourth Guinness World Records title. Richter nailed it when he said, “With our new Guinness World Records title on ice, the Taycan has once again proven its sideways driving qualities. And this time, even with all-wheel drive!” Bottom line? The Taycan GTS isn’t just electric, it’s electrifying, even when the stakes are icy! The Icy Feat Let’s be real, the Taycan GTS wasn’t pulling this off in flip-flops! This powerhouse came fully equipped with well fitted Michelin tires packed with one-millimeter spikes because ice demands serious respect and grip. And of course, every epic record needs slick-tech right? A precision GPS tracked every drift to the last meter. Keeping it official was Guinness World Records adjudicator Carl Saville, ticking all the right boxes. Christian Lehwald, Managing Director of the Porsche Arctic Center, said it best: “We knew the Taycan GTS had the power and precision. We just needed the ice. And here in Levi, Finland, we’ve got the perfect playground for it.” A Record Run Like No Other The Taycan has been collecting records like stamps. Let’s go back to 2023 when the Taycan Cross Turismo set its first record by climbing an incredible 5,573 meters on the Xinjiang-Tibet route, the greatest altitude change by an electric car. In 2021, driver Leh Keen drove the Taycan to 165.1 km/h inside an exhibition hall, proving that limits are meant to be pushed, and let’s not forget 2020, when the Taycan marked the longest drift record at the Porsche Experience Center in Hockenheimring. Clearly, the Taycan doesn’t just drive—it dominates! Where Power Meets Experience For fans craving some action, the Porsche Experience is the place to be. Since 1996, the Porsche Ice Experience in Levi has given drivers the chance to push their limits on icy tracks with expert instructors by their side. The 2025 season brings a revamped 300,000 square-meter track, designed by the legendary Hermann Tilke, ready for future record-breakers. What’s next for Porsche? If history says anything, they’re just getting started. The Taycan GTS is redefining what electric cars can do on roads, at altitude and now, even on ice. • Anuj Gosalia Talks About Creating Terribly Tiny Tales

Anuj Gosalia Talks About Creating Terribly Tiny Tales by Aparajita Jaiswal Anuj Gosalia Talks About Creating Terribly Tiny Tales 31 August 2020 Advertisement In a freewheel chat with Aparajita Jaiswal, Anuj Gosalia shares the story of creating, Terribly Tiny Tales, a globally celebrated platform with the worlds finest micro- fiction writers and how they reached their current stature. In this age of dwindling attention spans, their brand specialty is brevity, catching more people’s attention. With stories under 2000 characters, they are quick to read, accessible to more individuals and very hard to forget. Theirs is a global micro-fiction platform created by the brilliant mind of Anuj Gosalia. Terribly Tiny Tales is a special brand for the finest micro-fiction writers and reaching over 20 million people every week. Their stories advance and reach newer heights, influencing and touching more souls every day. They have opened us up to a whole new world full of stories. There’s a story for every reader, every emotion, serving fresh, daily. Back in 2012, Anuj realized that nobody engaged in blogs as much as they did in social media. “Over time as readership fell, I thought of what more can a writer do other than write books and blogs, where is the place for expression and if people are even interested in reading anymore. These were my questions. I recognized that people’s attention span reduced drastically. The more engaged writings were shorter, snappier and easier to consume and this led to the birth of Terribly Tiny Tales or more commonly known as TTT. I realized that the reason why people were not reading was not only because of social media but also because these platforms allow for a different kind of content to exist,” Anuj explains. “We started writing content that was shorter than 140 characters which was very new especially on Facebook and Instagram.” Although now a lot of pages are doing it, back in 2012 it was a new and unique concept brought to life by Terribly Tiny Tales. A typical day at terribly tiny tales starts with requiring all teams, the product team, content team, design team, trying to work at new angles to give its audience newer and fresh content. Their versatility reaches new heights every day as they take on interesting and unique projects. “What else can we do? I think that’s the big question. How can we build a larger brand of TTT,” says Anuj. Their primary focus being that they connect more and more with their audience, Anuj says, “we want to build something that people do not forget in a day or a week but remme…” Currently TTT is doing a project with Cadbury Dairy Milk which is a very recent addition to their work. They have collaborated to create films with Cadbury. So far they have three episodes out on their YouTube channel. TTT also has an app that’s a very engaged community. “We want to make that bigger so that is one of my key focus areas,” says Anuj. Every platform takes time to build and monetize, communities are built slowly and so did TTT. In 2015 TTT essentially had enough followers to be called a community. “We approached brands and told them we have 300 thousand people who love stories so can we tell your stories through TTT? That’s when we decided to put all our eggs in one basket and we started and expand from there.” TTT is not only on Instagram but also Facebook and twitter. They also have their very own YouTube channel and an app that engages over 20 million people in a week! The app lets people write stories and publish their work on their own. It is now TTT’s very own twitter! People can also publish their books on the app. It is nothing like you have seen before. It is dedicated to creators and readers. “The aim for the future is to tell more emotional stories. What we sometimes lose out on in bite sized fiction is that some stories deserve time and attention. We want to tell more stories that are deeper, more immersive and interactive. The future is where the story and you are very intimately connected.” Every child grows up reading Enid Blyton and few special books that inspire the paths we live and breathe. “I loved Enid Blyton like most children. I grew up reading Enid blyton books. The Famous five was of course my favorite,” the founder exclaimed. “I loved Agatha Christie and her characters. I was especially drawn to the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy. It is such a funny and amazing book. Took me a while to read Arundhati Roy but it was an incredible read. The God of Small Things is such an amazing book and as it was my first it makes it a little more special. I have grown to love Sally Rooney’s writing. These writers continue to remain my favorite.” “Empty summer afternoons during my childhood were my portal into the world of books. when you read vigorously at that age you also start to imagine worlds. Just like any other child, I too started imagining my own worlds. My interest in writing woke when I was in 5th or 6th grade but I took writing a little more seriously when I was in college. Although I liked writing it was still not full time as I did not study writing. I did not want to pursue writing at that point but I really started enjoying and loving writing in college. I did not imagine building career in writing but I liked the fact that I could think better with writing.” We all want to bring change into the world and make a difference. We all want to chase our dreams. Anuj Gosalia dreamed of moving people with his work and his company. “I want to passionately tell stories that outlive most other stories and people. I want to enable such beautiful, memorable and meaningful writing that really moves people. There are so many things happening that we rarely pause and admire something meaningful that really moved us. Very few things make you get out of your moment and reflect something rare that you experienced and go back to think about it.” No one remembers consuming a meme after a week. There is a time and a context to a meme after which it loses meaning but some works of art and writing live with us forever. My passion is that TTT becomes a platform that allows this timeless memorable expression.” “One thing I would change about the writing world is people thinking writing is easy. Typing out a few sentences does not make everyone a writer.” The meaning of the word Success is different for all of us. Anuj believes that success should mean we are having fun with what we do and not worry about Monday mornings. “What is also important to me is how many people are moved by the stories we tell.” TTT has had such an impact on readers worldwide; children, college students and adults alike. They do such an amazing job of affecting our mornings with a new story that puts our lives into a whole new perspective. “We hope that our stories come from a good place and are doing good to people,” Anuj says. Determining a good piece of writing always is somewhat relatable and moves people. “We had a metric called relatability graph and surprise and now I have an intuition around what is good piece of writing for our platform” A lot Classic literature and supposed all time favorite literature is not very accessible to the laymen. Not every book needs to live up to the complexity and benchmark set up by these books to be recognized as a good read per most millennial writers. Anuj Gosalia has a very similar point of view on this subject. “I definitely value craft but do the stories have to be complex and does the writing have to be complicated? You appreciate writing when you know enough time and attention has been spent to the craft and detail by the creator.” The writer and founder talks about what his other fancies he likes to indulge in apart from work. “I love working out. Very recently post lockdown I was introduced to cooking. The little time I spent cooking, I have really grown to enjoy it. I think these two things give me a break from work.” “What I would tell the younger minds is that keep writing. There is no shortcut as I am learning it the hard way too. It’s like a muscle; the lesser you use it, the rustier it gets. There is no substitute in the work of writing. You might get great ideas but how you turn those ideas transform on paper is important.” #TaraTaraKhandelwalBooksBooksandbeyondBoundWritersReadersAuthorsLiterary #tttpublishing #Founder #TTT #150characters #tttpassion #Life #Instagram #Coverstory #Writing #AnujGosalia SEARCH A Journey Shaped By Courage, Creativity, And Social Media With Aditi Sharma COVER STORIES Inner Joy Trails My Inspiration : A Candid Conversation With The Creative Anushka Kaushik COVER STORIES Barkha Singh’s candid candour makes the way to an eye-catching interview COVER STORIES Educate, Empower, Excel: Priyanka Chahar Choudhary's Inspirational Overture COVER STORIES Waluscha De Sousa On Being Her ‘True Self’ And Going On The Dream Journey COVER STORIES POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement By Anurag Sen Vivian Dsena: The Fluke Star Who Became Television’s Undying Heartthrob 25 September 2025 COVER STORIES By Ananya Patankar Unscripted, Unstoppable: The Many Lives Of Christine Gulasatree 22 August 2025 COVER STORIES By Ananya Patankar Off Script, On Truth: Anshumaan Pushkar In His Own Words 30 June 2025 COVER STORIES By Ananya Patankar From Mowgli To Maverick: Why Shaan R Grover Feels Like The Real Deal 13 June 2025 COVER STORIES RELATED POSTS Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement

  • Why the Maldives doesn’t fail to amaze tourists worldwide

by Rupashree Ravi by Rupashree Ravi Why the Maldives doesn’t fail to amaze tourists worldwide 5 August 2022 TRAVEL Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement A made-for-Instagram spot, the Maldives is the new go-to favourite for tourists all over the world. It has become the world’s greatest and most special island destination. The warm climate, exquisite white sandy beaches, and incredible underwater marine life are the main reasons why many tourists visit the country, along with recreational pursuits like scuba diving, snorkelling, and surfing. The country is a collection of many tiny coral islands. Each island has at least one resort, which is surrounded by a lagoon, making it a paradise for tourists. There’s a beach for every person in the Maldives What is so special about this place? One of the first things is the peace and tranquillity of the island that attracts tourists in this busy world. You can only hear the sound of sea waves with no crowds or rush. The magnificent reefs and museums add to the ultimate Maldives experience. Some of the must visit places in the Maldives are The Grand Friday Mosque, the glowing beach at Vaadhoo Island, the Whale Submarine, the capital city of Male and of course, the breathtaking and exotic island beaches. Moreover, the dining experiences are unique and very delightful. There are plenty of choices from the Mediterranean to Asian cuisines and live grills. Some dishes are par excellence, where you sit under a starlit sky in an exclusive private dining experience on the beach. Without doubt, seafood is a must try like the Rihakuru, live lobsters, fish curries and cutlets, which is a staple diet. Nothing beats a beachside meal The craze to visit the island country increased more than ever before as Covid-19 lockdowns around the world were gradually lifted. The Maldives was one of the first countries to open international borders in mid-2020, with strict guidelines and measures to curb the virus. And thus, the Maldives became the most popular holiday destination and the biggest international tourism success story in 2020-21. The pandemic became the real game changer as Indians, in particular, started preferring the Maldives to other beach destinations like Goa, Thailand, and Malaysia. Because unlike the crowded and somewhat unhygienic beaches at these destinations, the Maldives was promoted as a safe haven and social distancing-friendly location. They began seeing the destination as a once-in-a-lifetime honeymoon experience. With Indian celebrities and influencers visiting the country for vacations, staycations and even photoshoots and promoting it with the tagline ‘Isolation never looked this good’, the awe for the beautiful country only kept increasing. For the discerning Indian traveller, the Maldives gave a value for money and affordable luxury for all. The Maldives became the perfect hub for couples The country is known for its eco-tourism which promotes the survival of the reefs that surround its many islands. They protect the livelihoods of the local communities while also ensuring sustainable and hospitable stays. If you’re thinking of the perfect island getaway and a peaceful vacation, the Maldives is the best choice! #Maldives #Ecotourism #Beaches #Islands #Vacation #Staycation SEARCH The Fashion Capitals Of Asia: Exploring Style Beyond Borders TRAVEL Unveiling Delights Of Hotel Palazzo Versace Gem Of Dubai TRAVEL 7 Abandoned Cities In India And Abroad That Are Too Beautiful To Be Forgotten TRAVEL airBaltic Makes Global Debut On World’s Safest Airlines List TRAVEL Revolutionizing Air Travel: Qatar Airways Introduces AI-Powered Booking With Sama TRAVEL POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement By Shriniwas Kodape The Peninsula Bangkok: Grace Beside The Chao Phraya 4 October 2025 TRAVEL By Shriniwas Kodape 64 Floors Up: Lebua At State Tower Perspective 4 October 2025 TRAVEL By Shriniwas Kodape Four Seasons Bangkok: Where The River Holds Its Breath 17 September 2025 TRAVEL By Shriniwas Kodape Neon, Smoke, And Chili Fire: A Night In Bangkok’s Chinatown 2 September 2025 TRAVEL RELATED POSTS Advertisement

  • THE XXXVI ENTRÉE

by Akash Khatri THE XXXVI ENTRÉE 7 July 2022 FOOD Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement An avid foodie? Someone who wouldn’t mind non veg for breakfast, lunch and dinner? Then wazwan is your one stop. So catch the next flight and head to the Switzerland of India, the spectacular valley of Srinagar and walk in a wedding or celebration. I promise you that the natives will be more than happy to serve you. The Vale of Kashmir has been attracting people from different corners of the world not only for its charm, beauty and tranquillity but also for its mouth-watering, delicious and spicy dishes and cuisines. The hidden secret lies in the variety of hot spices like cardamom, ginger, fennel seeds, cinnamon, black cumin and so on. They are popular because of their appealing flavour, texture, and palatability characteristics. They form an inextricable part of Kashmiri culture. The names of the dishes and their bountiful, spice-rich sauces tell us a long history of influences. The infusion of tradition and culture lead to a beautiful amalgamation of dishes. The methods of cooking are borrowed and mixed Iranian, Afghan and Central Asian practices. Wazwan (Kashmiri: وازِوان) is a multi-course meal in Kashmiri cuisine, the preparation of which is considered as an art and a point of pride in Kashmiri culture and identity. Almost all the dishes are meat-based using lamb or chicken with a few vegetarian dishes. Recently, Wazwan is also served internationally at Kashmiri food festivals and reunions. From wedding celebrations to memorials commemorating the 40th day after a family member’s death, the wazwan feast forms an integral part of family gatherings in Kashmir and leaves a person mouth-watered if sniffed from a distance. The credit for popularizing wazwan dishes goes to Persian and Sanskrit immigrants. The word wazwan is derived from two words, ‘Waze’ means a Cook and ‘Wan’ means a place where the cook cooks. The origin of the term has also been derived from a Persian word, ashpaaz, which means a special cook proficient in making soups, and with the passage of time the term became “Waza”. Wazwan is an art and is learnt through heredity only. It is rarely passed on to other persons outside the clan. It is an integral part of the Kashmiri culture and heritage. The availability of the Waza determines the marriage schedule of weddings. A week or two before the function or ceremony chief cook is hired to discuss the quantity and quality of rice, meat, spices, chicken, vegetables and other items of cookery. The whole wazwan is cooked on wuri, firewood stove-train, in large and small copper cauldrons, locally called Daeg and Degchi. It consists of thirty-six meals, fifteen preparations of meat are cooked overnight under the guidance of a head chef called Vast Waza who is assisted by other cooks. The basic prerequisite of a wazwan is that freshly slaughtered meat is used for its preparation. It also contains a lot of dry fruits and spices which are freshly homemade. The red colour is usually derived from either the Kashmiri chillies or Cockscomb flower called Mawal. The feast is so opulent that each platter customarily gets piled with 8 to 13 pounds of meat and can take more than two hours to eat. Waste is out of the question. Many wazwans end with doggy bags and guests angling to take away more of their favourite dishes. The process of serving begins with washing hands of guests by providing water to them by a copper jug and a basin, called Tash Naer. After that, Dastarkhan, Table Cloth is spread on the floor which serves as a sanitary surface for food and groups of four people sit around it. A sizeable circular dish, traem, with a mound of rice with different varieties of wazwan on it is served to each group. Then, Waze takes rounds with copper cauldrons and a ladle to serve the additional dishes one by one. Meanwhile alongside, salad, curd, water and soft drinks, and pulao are served. Along with these dishes curd, pickle and chutney made of walnut, onion, pumpkin, radish etc. are served in small pots. They say variety is the seasoning of life. Some of the main dishes of this extravaganza spread are: Rista These are meatballs served in fiery red gravy. Each Traem consists of 4 Ristas one for each person. They are made by boneless meat which is smoothened on a wooden mallet and often have meat fat which is added while the meat is smoothened. The perfection requires extraordinary skill Lahabi kabab or Moachi kabab Succulent skewered lamb kebabs which are flattened, given diamond-shaped and cooked in spices and yoghurt. Waza kokur (two halves or two full chicken cooked whole) Daeni phoul (mutton dish) Doudha ras (mutton cooked in sweet milk gravy) Rogan josh Lamb which is marinated at least 2 hours before is cooked in oil and Kashmiri spices, the colour of the dish comes from Kashmiri Red Chillies added to it. Methi Korma It is a sort of stew usually made with lamb stomach and flavored with methi or fenugreek leaves which adds a lovely unique flavor. This flavored gravy is very famous amongst Kashmiris and part of the extensive meat cuisine of the region. Tabak maaz It is a glossy meat made of lamb ribs that are cooked twice and then simmered in yogurt with spices till tender. It’s then fried thoroughly and served in dry form. The richness of the dish is apparent with the ingredient list, it tastes absolutely fabulous and the aroma pulls you towards another bite. Daniwal korma (a mutton curry with coriander) Waza palak (green spinach cooked into a silky consistency with small mutton balls known as paliki riste) Aab gosht (lamb cooked in milk curry) A sacral area of the vertebral column of lamb or mutton is cooked in milk with saffron, cardamoms and without other spices. Marchwangan korma (an extremely spicy lamb dish) Kabab (minced meat roasted on skewers over hot coals) Gushtaba (a velvety textured meatball in white yoghurt gravy) It is the finishing dish made of minced mutton balls which are made in yogurt and spices. It is similar to Rista but less spicy and it’s aroma resembles yakhni. Gustaba is like Rista made from pounded meat emulsion. Yakh’n This dish can be prepared with lamb or lotus stem. It is a spiced yogurt based dish cooked without chilies. Bay leaves, cloves, cardamoms are the prime flavors to the dish. The mutton is cut in the form of chunks of about.5-6 cm which is pre-cooked in boiling water for 20 mins before adding the gravy of yogurt. Ruwangan chhaman (cheese squares with tomato gravy) It is cheese cooked in tomato sauce along with spices. Cheese is called Chamman in Kashmiri. Dum selva (potatoes cooked in yoghurt gravy) Dum aloo Gand Aanchaar (chopped onions mixed with chillies, salt, yoghurt and spices) Muji chetin or Mooli akhrot chutney (a sharp radish and walnut chutney) Phirni The wazwan ends with this creamy delicacy, it is a milk pudding thickened with semolina or ground rice, flavoured with cardamom and optionally saffron, set in individual bowls with slivered nuts and silver leaf Ufff, it ends finally. I’m already drooling at the thought of all of it. You surely won’t be able to walk back home after all that eating. • Meet Ishmeet Kaur, The Winner of Mrs. India World 2024

Meet Ishmeet Kaur, The Winner of Mrs. India World 2024 By Sakshi Batra Meet Ishmeet Kaur, The Winner of Mrs. India World 2024 17 December 2024 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement Journey of Ishmeet Kaur Ishmeet Kaur - Mrs. India World 2024, For me it was not only a journey of determination, passion and self-belief but also a heart full of gratitude. From a childhood rooted in love and support to challenging societal norms, my journey to becoming Mrs. India World goes beyond the crown. It’s a celebration of inner strength, resilience, and the belief that true beauty comes from within. “I’m not just taking away cherished memories with my sister queens, but also the title that has shaped my journey”. “These 7 days have been more than just an experience, they have been a journey of growth, friendship and empowerment, rather than a competition”. "The lessons learned, the bonds formed, and the unforgettable moments will forever remain with me, serving as a constant reminder of the strength and beauty we all hold within." Source of Inspiration When asked about my biggest source of support, “I credit my mother as my guiding light from being my constant support through thick and thin whenever I felt like giving up, she became my strength and reminded me to keep chasing my dreams until I achieve them”. With her unwavering support, I am who I am today. Her guidance helped me overcome every hurdle that came my way. The crown I wear is not merely a symbol of victory—it embodies my hard work, passion, and self-belief. I didn’t just chase my dreams, I lived them. On the other hand, I often see parents not supporting their child's career choices. To them, my advice is simple: “Never give up on your dreams”. Stay true to your passion and trust your journey. If you remain authentic to yourself and your aspirations, then sky’s the limit. "If you follow your heart with determination, success will undoubtedly find its way to you." The best part of my journey has been the unwavering support of not just my mother, but my entire family and my partner, who stood as my pillars of strength in achieving my dreams. Their only advice to me was simple yet profound: stay true to who you are, and always remain humble and grounded with your fellow contestants. “They mentioned that true beauty comes within and that should reflect through my actions”. The Changing Phase of Pageantry I believe that the world has been undergoing a shift, moving away from the traditional beliefs and stereotypical norms, the days are gone when beauty pageants were just about perfect figures and dazzling smiles but in today’s scenario women with different body shapes and sizes are respected and are being welcomed “Today, the pageants celebrate authenticity and individuality” and the focus has also expanded to inner beauty, confidence, intelligence & social awareness rather than just physical appearance. These days “pageants are embracing diversity in terms of ethnicities, backgrounds, age, sexuality and gender identity”. Pageants now place more emphasis on contestants' intelligence, social awareness and community involvement. Winners are often expected to be role models and advocates for social causes”. This shift reflects a broader, more inclusive vision of beauty. However, the path to success is never easy. “Indian women face many societal restrictions, making it hard to build a career, they must navigate countless obstacles and negotiate at every step to overcome the challenges in their path”. But by participating in Mrs. India World, I feel I have broken stereotypes and shown that no dream is impossible, regardless of marital status. Life Lessons Among the many rounds in the pageant, “My favourite was the personal interview round”. It was a truly special moment that I will cherish for a lifetime, as it gave me the opportunity to connect with each judge one-on-one. “Their humility and inspiring guidance left a lasting impression on me”. Power of confidence & Self-belief What sets me apart from others is not beauty with brains, it was my bolstering confidence, determination and self-belief that got me here and stood me out from everyone else. “I would suggest everyone to follow their heart and not give heat to negative perspectives”. I can't deny that there were moments when I wanted to take a break, do nothing, and just relax. But then I had a self-realisation “I was fortunate enough to be selected among so many talented and brilliant women”. It was a golden opportunity that I couldn’t afford to miss, especially with my dreams so close to being realised. This deep realisation pushed me to stay focused and true to my passion. “It reignited the fire in me to work hard and pursue my dreams with full dedication and honesty”. Favourite Cuisine Even the strict dieters have cravings and for me, it’s Chinese food. "If I had to choose a cheat meal, it would definitely be my favourite Chinese dishes - I just can’t resist them!" Celebrating Talent & Creativity I would be incredibly proud to judge the pageant, and if given the opportunity to create my own round, “I would choose a talent round where all participants could showcase their unique abilities”. Whether it’s singing, dancing, poetry, drama, or any other talent, this round would offer each contestant the chance to express their creativity and passion. “I believe it would provide them with an opportunity to truly shine in something they love, creating a beautiful, personal, and inspiring experience." Redefining Success Ishmeet’s journey is a powerful reminder that success is not just about achievements, but about breaking barriers and staying true to oneself. "Dreams take effort, and sometimes they need a push," but the beauty of the journey lies in overcoming challenges and letting your inner light shine. Her story teaches us that beauty is not just about appearances; it’s about strength, resilience, and the courage to dream big. Ishmeet is living proof that with determination and belief, no dream is ever too far out of reach.
