Inside Gen Next At Lakmé Fashion Week: A Showcase Led By Saim

At Lakmé Fashion Week, the Gen Next showcase remains one of the most exciting platforms for discovering new talent. Known for introducing fresh voices in Indian fashion, it brings together designers who are shaping how fashion is designed, worn, and understood today.

This season, SAIM’s presentation stood out for its clear point of view and confident design language. Drawing from temple sculptures and mythological references, the collection explored the human form through fluid silhouettes and sculptural construction.

The lineup featured kaftans, kurtas, dresses, and layered separates in relaxed, oversized shapes. There was a strong focus on ease — garments that moved naturally with the body while still holding their structure. The balance between fluidity and form gave the collection a distinct and recognisable identity.

Fabric played a key role in defining the collection. Silk Chanderi formed the base, paired with satin and silk patchworks that added depth and contrast. Jersey drapes and ribbed detailing introduced flexibility, giving the pieces a more lived-in, adaptable quality without compromising on finish.

One of the strongest elements was the approach to ornamentation. Rather than being added on, embellishment was built into the garments themselves. Pearls, sequins, metal threads, crystals, and handcrafted tassels were used to create jewellery-like forms within the clothing.

These details appeared as neckpieces, armbands, and waist accents, seamlessly integrated into the design. The result was a collection where clothing and adornment worked together, adding a sculptural edge without feeling heavy or excessive.

Beyond the visual language, the collection carried a personal layer, drawing from memory and cultural references that reflect a more contemporary Indian identity. While the inspiration was rooted in tradition, the execution felt current and globally relevant.

What made the showcase particularly effective was its clarity. Every element — from silhouette to fabric to detail — felt intentional and connected. There was a strong sense of direction, with no excess or distraction.

As part of the Gen Next platform at Lakmé Fashion Week, the presentation reinforced the importance of new voices in the industry. It highlighted a shift towards fashion that prioritises perspective, construction, and wearability over trend-driven design.

With this collection, SAIM establishes a strong and confident presence—one that feels aligned with the way Indian fashion is evolving today. It’s a clear, focused vision that positions the label as one to watch in the seasons ahead.
