The Modernity Of The Fashion Sphere by Shreya Satish Jorapur The Modernity Of The Fashion Sphere 19 February 2023 FASHION Advertisement Glamour, grandeur, glory… The fashion industry encapsulates these three G’s in an intriguing way, which has gradually integrated into our persistent everyday culture too. On the flip side of beauty lies all the perseverance and hardships that lead to it. Let’s discuss the multitude of aspects involved in this industry, assessing the repercussions and effects alike. The treatment of models in the industry is a conflict-inducing topic which can not be generalized. Acknowledgement of the body image issues, disordered eating behaviours, and mental turmoil that accompanies the occupation is very important. The repetitive cycles and beliefs that are ingrained in these models can be detrimental to their journey. In recent times, such issues have been brought to light and attempts towards redemption are being made by companies and authorities. Appreciable steps have been taken regarding inclusivity of gender, race, and body types. There is a plethora of diversity that can be observed in the ramps of today- walkers of different nationalities, identities, and bodies are celebrated and recognized in a widespread manner. Fashion represents cultures and creates a symphony. Heritage and history are also components in fashion. The efficiency, and most importantly, creativity of designers is showcased amazingly. ‘Over the Top’ and ‘Camp’ themes are in trend recently. Along with this, people have become more open to gender-neutral clothing and non-rigidity in fashion. Innovation plays a key role in keeping the audience engaged. Designers and distributers are assured in the popularity of non-conventional styles which majorly appeal to the youth of the time. Fashion has become a form of self expression too. Thousands of people use their clothing, accessories, and even make-up related endeavours to express their convictions, orientations, solidarities and distinct styles. It is an inclusive resort to tangible expressions of the self. Fashion can also be viewed as an art form. The fashion industry has a growing scope for careers and educaton too. Students majoring in fashion for their degrees have multiple opportunities to flourish and prove themselves, be it amidst the public eye or behind the scenes. It is an impressive and unique path to lead towards. Events like the Met Gala, the Paris Fashion Week, and many others around the world provoke demand. Also, personality and beauty pageants like Miss Universe, Miss World, etc, along with their national level counterparts are huge factors too. Movies like ‘Fashion’ by Madhur Bhandarkar explore the personal journeys of models, designers, company leaders, and more, It is a well-rounded and eye-opening narration. Another movie with a personal narration of a prominent name and luxurious brand is ‘Coco Before Chanel’. The song ‘Victoria’s Secret’ by Jax is a call-out to the harmful standards and detections set up. It highlights the ‘Heads’ of the coin. Meanwhile, songs similar to ‘Fashion’ by Lady Gaga focus on the confidence and flair that fashion can ignite, representing the ‘Tails’ of the coin. There are several different aspects to this sector. - Breaking Stereotypes About Women and Motorcycles
SOCIETY by Aparajita Jaiswal Breaking Stereotypes About Women and Motorcycles 1 June 2021 SOCIETY Advertisement Advertisement Women shifting gears of their bikes, to shift gears of perspectives of people’s minds! “Life’s not fair; Get used to it”, a renowned quote by Bills Gates and the first rule from his “11 rules you will never learn in school”. Though Bill Gates had quoted these words for everybody in general, women would resonate with the words more effectively than men. Women have been surrounded by and are living in through the innumerable stereotypes since time immemorial. For everyone who is wondering, what a stereotype is, it is an image of how an individual is expected to act based upon factors such as race, nationality, sexual orientation and lot more. From the very beginning, girls come across rigid stereotypes which at times prove to be major barriers on their path of following their heart. The impact of these stereotypes can be bought to light, in two very simple yet thought provoking, statements which are oversimplified and overgeneralized by the society as a whole. “Pink is for girls and blue is for boys”, “Boys don’t cry”, are very common statements. Everyone might have come across one of these two general gender-based stereotypes. What makes everything worse is the fact that, somewhere, each and every person of the society has been, either intentionally or unintentionally been playing a role in building such rigidity. A measure of rigidity is bought to light by the fact that people actually consider that there’s no such thing called stereotyping and usually end up saying “This is how it is meant to be”. One such stereotype being that “motorcycling is not meant for women”. Motorcycling and biking has been always taken as a male oriented niche. Since time immemorable, motorcycling has always been associated with men to pursued as a career, hobby or passion. When talked about “bikers” or “motorcyclists”, the first image that is formed in one’s mind is a strong, masculine figure, wearing helmet and a safety kit and riding a heavy sports bike. Never does the image a woman in the same attire, upon a sports bike occur to people. Moreover, in case of bikers on the racing tracks, women are not even taken in consideration even in the imaginations. For those girls who stand strong and are courageous enough to follow their heart, family restrictions become a barrier. For those who even convince and receive family support, the entire society becomes a major obstacle in their path. Yet as a ray of hope in the midst of this stereotypical hanging rope, there are examples of women who tend to break the stereotypes and follow their passion fighting against all the odds that might cross their path. One such inspiring women is Roshni Misbah. During an interview, she gives us an insight into her journey and how she overcame the set stereotypes to follow her passion and become the only girl in India to own a Ninja H2. “Just because we aren’t allowed to do it, doesn’t mean we can’t do it” Roshni Misbah boldly quotes in favour of all the girls out there who wish to ride. Coming from a family of Islamic scholars and Hafiz’s, and then being a motorcycle enthusiast was odd. Her parents were initially hesitant but she somehow convinced them. The support of her family always which proved to be an ease in the rocky path. Talking about her journey, Roshni mentions that she always received odd looks from people on the road while she rode her bike on the way to college. She specifically mentions the fact that boys usually tried to overtake her, perform some stunts around her and make awkward comments. But nothing could stop her from riding, it was her passion and interest for riding is what kept her going. “As much as we say, we are living in a free world, the fact that there are still places where woman is NOT ALLOWED to do a lot if stuff” she believes. The issue of gender discrimination and stereotypes are very closely interrelated. However, she adds that “I think its all here! In the mind, for you to hold on to and follow your passion.” “You can follow your culture, ethics and yet follow your passion all at a time” she firmly stated. She also puts to light that the stereotypes are just in the mind. Though women today have all the resources and freedom, there is still something that makes their paths so very difficult or becomes a barrier. In most cases its all about the stereotypes and stereotypes are just in the mind. It is the people’s mindset that got to be changed first to bring about the freedom of women in its truest sense. - 8 Elementary Ways To Practice The Attitude Of Gratitude
8 Elementary Ways To Practice The Attitude Of Gratitude by Anushka Singh 8 Elementary Ways To Practice The Attitude Of Gratitude 1 December 2020 LIFESTYLE Advertisement “Life is like a river. You can’t touch the same water twice because the flow that has passed will never pass again.” And, in this river-like life, time flies like the flow and is long passed till you acknowledge its value. We being humans, ignorant as we are, mostly forget to appreciate little things in life while there’s time and either complain or regret after its gone. Practicing gratitude can be an absolute game changer in our lives as it brings us closer to reality and the relatedness of everything in this world. Gratitude is that common key which unlocks uncountable doors to peace and well-being, both of our soul as well as our body, in numerous ways. It adds a little more essence to our lives by making us understand the importance of being grateful to what we have and appreciate life as it happens. As the scientific studies and research affirms, the feeling and expression of Gratitude has limitless positive outcomes. Be it your personal relationships, work life, mental health or even your immune system, Gratitude has its reflection over everything and aids to make you feel more alive. We often feel weak and baffled by those tough complex situations in our lives when we fail to find a way out or at least feel like it. In phases like these, people who practice gratitude usually come up with the reminder that even in the gloomiest moments, there’s always a beam of light shining through the darkness to make you recognize the brighter parts of every situation. There’s always a good hidden in the bad and your choice to uncover it with an open heart and mind is what makes everything worthwhile. The must known fact about practicing gratitude is, you don’t have to reserve it for epochal moments but notice it in the littlest of wins like you managing to witness the sunrise, getting free from your work before-time, a little chit-chat with a stranger on a shared cab or merely a hot cup of tea, it all depends on your perspective. People who are grateful, are the ones who are more stress resistant and know the art of celebrating life by living in the present. Here are 10 elementary steps to building your attitude of gratitude. Keep a gratitude journal ~ The most practiced way is maintaining a Gratitude journal and has resulted to be very effective. All you have to do is make a rough record or list of things that you felt grateful for. You don’t need to prepare a whole long list everyday and feel bounded about it but simply add one or more little things that made you smile and feel grateful, on a daily basis. This practice increases your ability to acknowledge things you usually fail to notice. Express your love and appreciation ~ Expression of what you feel is powerful and gives a sense of satisfaction and bliss. Write notes or letters to people you love, people who made you happy someday or simply the ones who were kind to you and you appreciate their act. Nurture your friendships and embrace what you have by sharing what you feel. This makes the other person happy as well and that reciprocation multiplies your satisfaction. The expression of your positive feelings also help in building good relationships and bridges the communication gap. Avoid negative media and switch to positive ~ Our senses, what we see and hear influences our actions and mood. Watching and listening to negative media brings you closer to negativity which starts reflecting in your behaviour as well. Try on watching positive videos, listening to soothing music, reading good books, all of this will help you notice and appreciate the good in the world and influence your behaviour positively. This helps people giving and attracting positive vibes which are very important to live and lead a healthy life. Observe the beauty of nature ~ A famous known and understood fact of life is, fall in love and find the beauty in things that would always stay along and you’d never need to search for it when you need it. Nature is one such beautiful part of our lives that won’t leave our side once you fall in love with it. The soothing wind, the sound of sea waves, colours of sunset shining through the clouds, the flower blooming as if smiling at you, these things are eternal and always makes you smile once you start understanding its beauty. The sky full of stars and you star-gazing can never feel lonely. Observing the beauty of nature brings happiness to your life by simply existing. Involve yourself in the acts of kindness ~ Join a cause that matters to you or get yourself involved in social work. Enrolling with an NGO can be a good idea but if not something in that large of scale, try doing small acts of kindness daily. Helping old aged people with whatever they need in a situation, feeding stray dogs, donating your old clothes or maybe just giving ten bucks extra to the street vegetable vendor without trying to bargain can be counted as your acts of kindness. The moment you start appreciating what you have by comparing yourself with the ones who have less and not more than you, you’ll understand the importance of having a giving nature and will start helping people out with whatever you can. The humbleness you show while doing such things makes you feel good about yourself subconsciously which later on helps you feel positive about yourself. Avoid criticizing, gossiping and talking negatively ~ You become what you feed your mind, what you believe, what you speak and what you surround yourself with. If you keep criticizing people and notice what their flaws are in your perspective, you’ll end up becoming a gloom-ridden person who fails to find and look at the plus of others and not minus. This gets reflected in our personality easily and we develop a negative vibe. Instead of gossiping around about somebody else’s life or criticizing them, try on appreciating them for what they are good at and notice the same. Nobody is perfect and everybody has flaws, our wisdom lies in accepting them while helping them out of it and not by discussing about their lives. You also must surround yourself with people who have an uplifting nature. Stop complaining ~ Like our happiness multiplies by expressing and sharing, the same happens with every other emotion. If you complain about situations in your life, the more you think and talk about it, the more it strengthens up in your heart and mind. You must understand the fact that there’s always gonna be difficulties and problems throughout your life and you’ll have to deal with it alone. What can be changed is the way you look at it, the way you perceive it. Try on having a positive approach towards your problems. Instead of feeling sad over it, try finding out what you got to learn through it. Try analyzing the whole phase and telling yourself what you’ll take forward about it and what you’ll leave behind. Make sure what you take forward is what helps you grow and not keep you stuck with the past. Start and end your day with gratitude ~ Be thankful for each day you’re gifted and take it as an opportunity to become a better person. Keep in mind that the gratitude you’re practicing is for your own good and your kind actions are just a source that lead you to the peace. Remind yourself that you’re worthy of all the bliss and ready for all the difficulties; for whatever happens, happens for good. Just like you begin your day with gratitude, end it the same way. It can be a little prayer or just a thanks, a text message of appreciation to somebody or a pat on your back while telling yourself that you made the day a good one with no regrets but happiness and peace. Some of the psychological aspects of practicing gratitude are the higher level of positive emotions, alertness and awakeness towards life everyday, more optimism, peace and happiness. Gratitude also assists our health by resulting with balanced blood pressure, good sleep, stronger immune system and makes us less bothered about the pain and aches. The attitude of gratitude not only helps us in multiple ways but the people around us as well. Our life is a sum of both good and bad. We learn and grow through our experiences. The sense of acceptance and gratitude brings us closer to the ultimate meaning of life and helps us live it to the fullest and isn’t that the best return gift to life? - How Young Is Too Young For A Skincare Routine
By Anushka Sharma By Anushka Sharma How Young Is Too Young For A Skincare Routine 24 June 2024 BEAUTY Advertisement Advertisement In today's beauty-conscious world, the question of when to start a skincare routine for young children often sparks debate among parents, dermatologists, and skincare enthusiasts alike. While some argue that introducing skincare early instills healthy habits, others caution against exposing young skin to unnecessary products too soon. So, how young is too young for a skincare routine? The consensus among dermatologists leans towards simplicity and necessity when it comes to skincare for children. Babies and toddlers generally have delicate skin that is more sensitive to external influences. Their skin barrier, responsible for protecting against irritants and infections, is still developing. For infants, less is often more. Gentle cleansers and moisturizers specifically formulated for baby skin are usually sufficient to maintain skin health. As children grow older, around the age of five or six, environmental exposures increase with outdoor play and school activities. This can lead to dirt and sweat buildup, making a gentle cleansing routine more relevant. Dermatologists typically recommend a basic regimen that includes a mild cleanser and moisturizer suitable for young skin. These products should be free from harsh chemicals, fragrances, and unnecessary additives that could potentially irritate sensitive skin. When puberty hits, usually between the ages of eight and thirteen for girls and slightly later for boys, hormonal changes trigger increased oil production and the potential for acne. This transitional phase often prompts parents to consider more targeted skincare routines involving products designed for acne-prone skin. However, dermatologists caution against aggressive treatments and instead advocate for gentle formulations that balance oil production without stripping the skin of essential moisture. The cultural and societal pressures around beauty and skincare can also influence parental decisions. In some communities, skincare rituals are deeply ingrained from a young age as a form of self-care and hygiene. However, experts advise against unnecessary complexity or introducing products with active ingredients like retinoids and exfoliants too early. These potent ingredients are generally more suitable for mature skin and can cause adverse effects on developing skin cells. Ultimately, the decision to start a skincare routine for a child rests with their parents or caregivers, guided by dermatological advice. It's essential to prioritize skin health over cosmetic concerns and to tailor products to individual skin needs rather than adopting a one-size-fits-all approach. Consulting with a pediatric dermatologist can provide personalized recommendations based on a child's unique skin type and any specific concerns. In conclusion, while there is no definitive age at which every child should start a skincare routine, a balanced approach emphasizing gentle care and age-appropriate products is crucial. Early education on basic skincare habits such as sun protection, gentle cleansing, and moisturizing sets a foundation for lifelong skin health. By fostering healthy skincare practices from a young age, parents can empower their children to take ownership of their skin health while respecting its natural development. Navigating the delicate balance between protection and prevention is key in addressing the question of when to start a skincare routine for children. By prioritizing simplicity, gentleness, and informed decision-making, parents can ensure that their child's skincare journey begins on a foundation of care and consideration for their developing skin. During this whole transition period, I treasured dormant talent of my personality, as I could steal some time for trying out solo singing, penning down my thoughts to create short stories, experimenting in the kitchen and even nailed the unusual skill of giving men a haircut. Today I had lessons of stitching from my mom-in-law and found that it’s not that tedious and tricky as I had thought, of course, one needs to be lucky to have a good teacher beside you as my MIL is. I tried my hand on tailoring too, thanks to the lockdown. All and all it’s so much fun being indoors with family, doing crazy things and enjoying the nearness, attention as well as helping hand of the spouse. Above all, the level of tolerance has reached its acme and this habit I would always wish could be deep-rooted within me forever. At last, it took a microscopic-organism to make us more human. #LockdownPandemicIndependentConfinement SEARCH Women Empowerment A mere concept or a real Concern SOCIETY Looking Through The Excellence Of ‘Jaali’ Architecture SOCIETY Why the Gender Pay Gap is Wide and Disturbing SOCIETY Festival of Stones SOCIETY The Pygmalion Effect SOCIETY POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement By Anushka Sharma Uniting Voices, Shaping Futures: Dive Into Mun 2.0 At NIT Patna 8 September 2024 SOCIETY By Anushka Sharma These Healthy Habits Can Lower Your Risk Of Depression 31 August 2024 SOCIETY By Rini Pathak A Glance In The Kshitij’23: A Euphoric Escapade 26 January 2024 SOCIETY By Rini Pathak Mithibai Kshitij: Epitome Of Diverse Social Cause Empowerment 24 January 2024 SOCIETY RELATED POSTS
