- Single parenthood and family
SOCIETY by Akash Khatri Single parenthood and family 1 December 2020 SOCIETY Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement Slowly generalising concept yet feels like a terror to me . I’m not writing it hypothetically rather have seen this. Families emerged from single Parenthood on a positive aspect know struggle and manage to include themselves in the hardy layer of the society whereas on a negative aspect they can just be as jeopardized as possible. Single parenthood if not self chosen could be a disaster for the parent itself ,juggling between kids, work, household and what not as if you’ve to do single handed plank when your core isn’t used to it. However, I fear for self chosen single parenting because the shrinkage from joint families to single parent families are somewhere responsible in the upbringing and personality development of a child as well. How are they supposed to learn actions oriented moral ethics and values if they are not getting various people to observe in their house. In a nutshell, the pursuit of single parenthood must be a big no ,no matter how much it’s covered or layered with positive attributes, it’s hard for both the child and the parent and we as humans don’t opt for harder things by nature, do we ? #family #singleparent #singleparenthood #society SEARCH Why India is the most depressed country in the world? - Tasting the sunny side of Christmas: Christmas Cocktails
by Aishwarya Tasting the sunny side of Christmas: Christmas Cocktails 2 November 2022 FOOD Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement It's that time of the year again! With Christmas just over our heads, you might think of the cocktail options to serve your guest. No Christmas party is complete without the classic cocktails. So, here are some of the classic yet yummy cocktails, you can try this Christmas. We also have some non-alcoholic options for the non-drinkers! Eggnog: It is a creamy, sweet, and classic addition to your cocktails recipes, and can be consumed with or without alcohol. It originates from medieval Britain’s “posset”, a milky drink used to toast. The American colonies adopted this drink in the 1700s, using rum as the alcoholic base. Since milk and egg were available widely, it was an affordable drink option to go with. Well, why does it have this weird name? It is said to have derived from the word “noggin”, which was a wooden cup, and “grog”, a strong beer. Hot Buttered Rum: It is tracked back to Europe in the 1600s when sailors consumed hot and spicy drinks to fight off the cold weather. Then England captured Jamaica in 1655 when rum became a much-preferred option than brandy. The Hot Buttered Rum consists of alcohol, sugar or honey, boiling water, spices, and a thick layer of butter. Sounds weird, but you should give it a try for sure! Candy Cane Martini: This drink is a mix of all the best flavours and colours that are appropriate for the season. Candy Cane Martini is a mix of vanilla vodka, creme de cacao, and peppermint schnapps topped with a candy cane. It looks and tastes, just like the Christmas season. The origin of the Candy Cane Martini is still unknown, but the classic martini is said to have originated during the Gold Rush, when a bartender named Martinez ran out of champagne and hence mixed what he had, in short, our today’s cocktail was born that day. Tom & Jerry: A drink that is just as fun and weird as the cartoon. Tom & Jerry is a creamy drink similar to Eggnog but is served warm. It is believed to have been created by British sports journalist Pierce Egan and has become a winter staple today. It is just warm milk, but with steroids. Kidding, it is warm milk mixed with shots of brandy and rum. Even today many bars mix up batches of warm milk for the chilly winter night. Non-alcoholic Thanksgiving Punch: Even though the name suggests Thanksgiving, drinks are best served when you like having one. So, the Thanksgiving punch is great for Christmas too, as it has notes of cinnamon and orange that give the perfect cosiness for the winter. It consists of apple cider, sparkling blood orange juice, and sparkling grape juice with a dash of fresh orange and cranberry. A splash of rum, reposado tequila, or Anejo tequila is all you need, to transform this mocktail into a cocktail. Festivals are the season to celebrate, and the celebration gets even better with a tasty drink. Do try these cocktails this Christmas, and enjoy sipping on life forever. - Suhani Shah Celebrating 25 years in Mentalism
Suhani Shah Celebrating 25 years in Mentalism by Naisargi Devdher Suhani Shah Celebrating 25 years in Mentalism 2 September 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement Even before understanding what fame and glamour is, a child understood what magic is! It was 26 years ago, that a 6 year old Suhani saw a ‘magic show’ and dreamt of becoming a magician. This marks her 25th year performing mentalism, as she still carries the charm and innocence that 7 year old Suhani did. Talking of it, there is a lot of glamour, a factor of ‘wow’, self-love and over confidence associated with the career transition. To which, she elaborately explains, “As a child, I kept talking of magic and fortunately, my parents honestly were extremely considerate about it. You know, my father spent 6 months looking for a tutor and basically putting across magic as my educational development, because somewhere my inclination towards magic was visible. And that was the age when I didn’t even understand what glamour or for a fact even fame is! So when my first show was grandly put about, the then Chief Minister attended it. That was exactly how my career began. So for me on a personal level, fame has been a part of my career, so has glamour, it existed then, it persists now, so never does overconfidence seem to be very much an issue to say.” Putting it simply, she brought about the point of growing up with talent. Queerly, to think of, does a child always begin with imagining that she would be a part of a mega industry rather than just performing for herself? That anticipation of where she’s being lead to marks a crazy confusion in the life of an artist. “To be completely honest, yes, I did think that the talent is leading me to some place grand. I could foresee my career with magic, art and what not around. However, I truly did never expect this transition, you know! I did never know I would be assimilated with a streaming, or filming culture. That for me has not just given me a new hypo graph to live up to but also, something I truly wanted to do. Having youthful energy, I wrote books over mentalism and magic, I had art shows to perform but none of it made me as satisfied as being a part of this industry makes me. That is the exact meaning for transition and unknowingly yet beautiful, I get pushed and mingled in the industry.” When the transition of career happens to be natural, there are a lot of changes one needs to adapt to. There was a demand for the talent I held, but it was never a career that I would want to perform. Thus till the pandemic hit, I really didn’t think of it. However, when the pandemic hit, the work stopped, I was barred from home and that was exactly when I began with YouTube streaming and making videos. So the transition was never sudden, it just happened slowly. I had to adapt, accept and identify that I was away from the stage, I had screens to connect with people to, and performing live had a very different sense. That adaption was actually challenging because it brought me to a stage where I had to recognise my career scope and recognize what exactly was to be done. You know, I didn’t go to school, I didn’t go to college, I was just working all the while, and now I was here where I had to sit and just do nothing. That was more challenging for me. So I remember, starting off with an online show, ‘Magic being performed online’, that somewhat pulled me through the pandemic dilemma. While streaming on YouTube was the exact game changer I was looking for because looking back, I was having fun doing it. Little did I know that it was the beginning of a novel spectrum of my career!” All this while, Suhani mentioned the Pandemic to be a revolution in all senses However, through all of this happening, there is a high doubt of where art forms are leading to when it comes to India, because there's a lot to do with glamour here as well. “A bit contrary to what you said, India is filled with art forms with diverse roots. It’s not even similar, there is a difference in totality. And truly, in my understanding, we are always attracted to glamour. You see a beautiful rose, its glamour, desire of living in a house I glamour, and that will always be appreciated but here it’s more about how you understand art to be. Because art is also glamorous, art also is beautiful and that goes hand in hand. The window to the world during the pandemic was their phones. People were seeing direction, cinematography and all of it came from art. And whatever the screens passed on to people was art. People eventually started valuing art, realising that when nothing works, and its art that they can rely on.” Mentioning the importance of art and growing up with it, there is a lot of superstitious association with magic. Dealing with which stands out from any coaching. “Since childhood, I was looked at as a ‘DEVI’, saying I can heal everything possible. Earlier, people confused me with a musician and there I had to sort out the exact meaning of a magician, after which, a lot of people came to me asking me to heal their illnesses or asking me solve their problems. This was exactly what shifted me away from any sort of superstitious association since childhood. I give ted talks speaking against superstitions. Hence I always say, ‘I CANNOT READ MINDS, I CAN CREATE AN ILLUSION OF READING MIND’.” Just adding illusions cannot definitely define it as magic. However, according to Suhani, Guzaarish is a movie that utilises pieces of magical elements. That’s exactly where she leaves you with… Wonder how to deal with magic, because every potential of yours is magic if you know how to use it!! - Raveena Mehta, The Rising Phoenix
Raveena Mehta, The Rising Phoenix by Naisargi Devdher Raveena Mehta, The Rising Phoenix 17 September 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement The beautiful and incredulous singer, Raveena Mehta talks about her journey of becoming a singer and the path of good mental health that can lead one there. This story comes from the very depth of Raveena Mehta's journey as an artist, especially with the Pandemic hitting the world hard. Speaking of which, she mentions, "When the pandemic hit, I lived in my home studio. I have a home set up where I record a lot of my music. I decided to get into a routine to make a cover everyday and worked on composing. This led me to release around 7 songs in 2020 which was a great feeling. It has been incredible to see the way India has digitized over the last two years, an immense amount of technological progress." Speaking of success, it's one of the most beautiful feelings in the entire world; when reality strikes an artist! It just glows over the body and the mind, when the artist makes it big in the industry. However, Raveena does not recollect any such moment where she realized she was going big, but continues to say, "I don't think there was ever such a moment where I realised I was going big, but when I was approached to demo with 'Casanova Acoustic', that felt pretty great! Reality striking was never a daunting thing, reality is also what you make of it and depends on how you are viewing your cup, hopefully always half full. I also believe maintaining a small inner circle is one of the most important things to remain grounded and level headed in a whirlwind of an industry." Raveena is not only successful nationally but recognised for her talent all over the globe, at film festivals and red carpets. Raveena exclaims gratefully, "For artists, it is always incredible to be able to see your work being recognised globally. I find it endearing when my Hindi songs are appreciated in Cannes. When I was there for the Film festival, it felt brilliant to know the music that comes from India is so sought after." Singing soulfully has always reached to the most interior bosom of a being and in doing so, Raveena Mehta has attained incredulous levels of success! "I define success with deriving happiness. I tend to keep myself and my headspace quite process oriented and so I find happiness in smaller, process driven moments. Of course, when I release a song and I can see that people appreciate the music, that most definitely also makes me feel successful. Success for me means earning respect and focusing on my happiness." When the appreciation of fans and people hits, the gaze is difficult to handle. The expectations, the build ups or the love is tedious and risky to respond to! Raveena truly respects all her listeners and fans, understanding that respecting them would earn her respect! "I truly respect all my listeners and fans. I feel blessed to know that people out there listen to and appreciate my music. I try to meet their expectations with my music. I truly feel like as an artist, you have to strike a balance between the things that want to be heard from you and the things you wish to create, remaining authentic and yourself. There’s a happy medium in there somewhere." When the audience speculate rumours, or show disrespect towards the art and the song, many artists feel undervalued. Everyone is entitled to their own tastes and opinions. To this day, in the world, the fear of a song being perceived incorrectly, is tremendous and has the capacity of wrecking one's mental health. Raveena, reflects on both, the expectations of people as well as one's mental health. "In my opinion, music is art and ultimately art is subjective and open to interpretation. To that point, I feel it becomes imperative to try to detach yourself from the work to an extent; so you can allow the work to grow and evolve wholeheartedly. I personally don't think I have ever felt too worried about a song being misinterpreted or misunderstood." Raveena also talks about how one's mental peace is key while working in a creative field. Creating can only be brought forward with a clear mind and peaceful environment. "Mental health is everything. I believe strongly in preserving one's mental sanctity, constantly focusing on self betterment and doing the things that make you the best version of yourself. These are definitely deliberate efforts and as for me, singing and drawing is therapeutic and it definitely helps me remain in touch with myself." Having said that, a lot of discipline is required from one's team as well. Every form of art, including a well produced album requires a strong and disciplined team. Raveena also comments on the same saying, "One annoying trait for me is tardiness, I generally find it annoying especially if it is concerning work for example in the form of a meeting. But hey, I also recognise that Mumbai traffic is also very hectic." Hectic schedules and a demanding creative field, on several instances, can also lead to mind blocks. Raveena adds, "If I ever have a mind block while i’m working, I tend to take some time for myself; I either go for a walk or do something that brings me a lot of peace. I try to disassociate any kind of pressure that is possibly creating a wall between my thoughts and inspiration." This global icon reinforced the importance of being true to herself while retaining the soul of her music and the integrity of her sound. However while acknowledging all of it, she remarked on a very beautiful note, "I find that sometimes in chasing trends, it is very easy to lose the soul of the music. In today's age with reels, tiktok and instant gratification which is equally as important to generating viewership, this can also be a double edged sword. While a lot of today's artists consider trends, it is also important to consider and retain the soul and integrity of your sound." - The Rise Of Nisha Ahuja: Balancing Passion And Profession
The Rise Of Nisha Ahuja: Balancing Passion And Profession By Anushka Sharma The Rise Of Nisha Ahuja: Balancing Passion And Profession 14 August 2024 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement In the ever-evolving landscape of content creation, Nisha Ahuja is emerging as a standout figure whose journey is as inspiring as it is remarkable. Combining a deep-rooted passion for fashion with a methodical approach to content creation, Nisha's ascent to prominence reflects both dedication and strategic foresight. Nisha’s journey began with a simple but profound love for fashion. "I always had a passion for fashion and creating content," she shares. Her venture into the world of content creation was spontaneous yet purposeful. "One day, I just started making Reels. The whole motive was just about my passion for fashion ," she reflects, highlighting the organic nature of her beginnings. A significant breakthrough came just a month into her content creation journey when she secured a contract with Myntra, a leading fashion e-commerce platform. "Myntra actually signed a contract with me for a year," Nisha recounts. This pivotal moment transformed her from an enthusiastic creator posting casually to a structured influencer with a well-planned content calendar. Despite the glamour of brand collaborations, Nisha remains grounded, attributing her success to her genuine enjoyment of the content creation process. "I really loved and enjoyed the process. That’s why I’m still continuing my 9 to 5 and content creation," she explains. Her ability to juggle a stable job with her creative pursuits is a testament to her dedication and exceptional time management skills. Nisha’s insights into the evolving dynamics of content creation offer valuable lessons for aspiring influencers . She sheds light on the barter deals that often characterize early stages in the industry. "They used to give me a voucher of 10k to shop and create content. It wasn’t money, but for fashion people, clothes were a big deal," she notes. However, as creators build their communities and prove their value, she emphasizes the importance of transitioning to fair compensation. "Once you’ve built a community and can provide brands with value, creators deserve to be paid. Nothing comes for free." Balancing a corporate career with content creation is no small feat, and Nisha's approach is both practical and inspiring. "If you have responsibilities and need stable income, a job is essential. But if you're passionate, you should explore content creation as a career option," she advises. Her ability to excel in both realms underscores her organizational prowess and passion for her work. The content creation industry is rife with opportunities, and Nisha is optimistic about its future. She encourages greater inclusivity, noting, "There are a lot of opportunities for everyone," and urges more men to explore this field. Yet, she also cautions against the pitfalls of relying solely on barter collaborations, advocating for a shift towards paid engagements as creators gain experience. Nisha's success is highlighted by a viral reel that amassed 16 million views, a testament to her relatable and engaging content. "It’s a lovely feeling, but it attracts a lot of attention, not all of it positive. Still, the recognition from brands is invaluable," she reflects, demonstrating her resilience amidst the challenges of fame. In addition to fashion, Nisha delves into lifestyle and food content, showcasing her versatility and creative spirit. Her talent for transforming thrifted pieces into fashionable outfits resonates with her audience, reflecting her ability to push creative boundaries. Inspired by creators like Komal Pandey, Nisha continues to experiment and innovate within the fashion space. To combat creative burnout, Nisha advocates for regular breaks and reconnecting with nature. "Timely breaks are important. I do yoga and listen to Sadhguru’s videos to recharge myself," she shares. Her approach to maintaining a healthy work-life balance is crucial in the fast-paced world of social media. As Nisha navigates her engagement and family responsibilities, she appreciates the multifaceted role of managing both personal and professional aspects of life. "It's a task, but I really appreciate girls who are managing families and content creation. It's like your own little business, and you're working 24x7," she says, acknowledging the dedication required to balance these roles. Looking forward, Nisha envisions a future filled with opportunities and accolades. "I want to be seen and appreciated for my content. I see myself working with big brands and designers, doing fashion shows, and receiving awards," she concludes, underscoring her entrepreneurial spirit and relentless drive. - A Journey Shaped By Courage, Creativity, And Social Media With Aditi Sharma
A Journey Shaped By Courage, Creativity, And Social Media With Aditi Sharma By Anushka Sharma A Journey Shaped By Courage, Creativity, And Social Media With Aditi Sharma 19 October 2024 COVER STORIES Advertisement In a realm where opportunity often knocks in unexpected ways, Aditi Sharma's story shines as a beacon of resilience and creativity. Known for her vibrant presence on screen and her fearless stint on "Khatron Ke Khiladi," Aditi’s journey is a blend of passion, social media savvy, and sheer determination. To Fearless Beginnings: Conquering Khatron Ke Khiladi: Starting the conversation with her experience on the adrenaline-pumping reality show, Aditi shared how "Khatron Ke Khiladi" was nothing short of a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Handling scorpions and jumping into deep waters was daunting, yet exhilarating. It was a test of physical endurance and mental strength, but Aditi embraced every challenge. Despite her short run on the show, she left with memories that transformed her. “Most of the things were very scary,” she reflects. “But it’s also real fun because, in the end, you’re doing something you never thought possible. I used to not be afraid of water, but after the show, I have a new respect for deep water. It was a different feeling.” From YouTube to Stardom: A Dream Takes Flight: Unlike many who set their sights on acting through traditional channels, Aditi's journey began in the digital realm. During her college days, she dreamed of being on screen but didn’t know where to begin. Starting on YouTube while studying journalism and mass communication, she hoped her presence would someday lead to bigger opportunities. And it did. Her first break came with a Clean & Clear face wash commercial, which took her to Bangkok on her first international trip. That advertisement opened doors for more projects, and social media played a crucial role in her rise to fame. “Social media was everything for me,” she says. “It’s how people discovered me, from YouTube videos to getting shortlisted for magazine shoots. That was my entry into the industry.” Navigating the Roller Coaster of Life in Entertainment: Aditi admits that her career has been a roller coaster, marked by highs and lows. The nature of the industry is unpredictable, with periods of intense work followed by moments of waiting for the next big opportunity. Yet, Aditi has embraced the ride, finding joy in every experience. Her role in Yeh Jaadu Hai Jinn Ka remains one of her most cherished memories. The magical storyline, combined with the physical demands of the role—such as performing stunts and working with harnesses—challenged her creatively and pushed her boundaries. “Every project I’ve worked on holds a special place in my heart, but that show was particularly close to me. It was a creative playground where imagination ran wild.” All About The Love for Travel and Finding Balance: Though her schedule is often packed with 12-14 hour shoots, Aditi carves out time for her other passion—travel. She fondly recalls her trips to the Maldives, a place she calls “breathtaking,” for its serenity and beauty. Whether it’s enjoying a romantic getaway or simply relaxing with friends, Maldives remains her favorite destination. Despite the long working hours, Aditi emphasizes the importance of balance. She begins each day with a 30-minute workout to boost her energy, which she credits for keeping her physically and mentally fresh. Her night routine is just as essential, helping her unwind and recharge for the next day. To Looking Ahead: Aditi’s Ambitions for the Future: When asked about her future goals, we realized that Aditi is private, but hopeful. She aspires to work on larger projects, including collaborations with directors like Imtiaz Ali and Neeraj Pandey. “I see myself growing in both my personal and professional life, but I believe in keeping my dreams close until they come true.” Aditi’s journey, from her YouTube days to becoming a household name, is a testament to the power of perseverance, innovation, and adaptability. In an age where social media can be a gateway to dreams, Aditi is proof that with the right mindset, anything is possible. Her advice to budding actors and creators? “Social media has made things easier, but you still have to put in the work. It’s about making the right use of it, and if you fit the bill, you’ll get the role.” In a fast-evolving industry, Aditi Sharma remains a dynamic force—an actress who not only embraces challenges but also rewrites the narrative of what it means to succeed in today’s digital world.
