  • Don Cristóbal’s AW26: Futuristic Folklore Takes Bangkok

Don Cristóbal’s AW26: Futuristic Folklore Takes Bangkok By Ananya Patankar Don Cristóbal’s AW26: Futuristic Folklore Takes Bangkok 11 July 2025 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement Exploring cosmos-inspired motifs, ergonomic tailoring, and compositional contrasts on the AW26 runway. In his 6th consecutive showcase, Don Cristóbal presents a balance of ancestral Filipino weaving with a complimenting contrast of futuristic textures, showcasing his boldest fusion yet. Don Cristóbal in his AW26 Thailand Fashion Week showcase quite literally aligned the stars on the runway with his celestial collection . Known for fusing heritage with high-concept fashion, the Filipino designer shifted into a new gear—charting a course that felt both celestial and grounded. This season, he leaned into cosmos-inspired motifs, ergonomic tailoring, and compositional contrasts. Where previous collections honored folklore, AW26 felt like a transmission from the future: metallics met natural fibers, and structure moved with unexpected ease. The result? A techno-spiritual narrative told entirely in silhouette and surface. After seasons of mythic storytelling and textile grandeur, Cristóbal’s latest work takes on a galactic scale—blending ritual, robotics, and radiant silhouettes. Building on the reverent storytelling of his SS24 “Flores de Mayo” and the metallic edge of AW25–26. The collection pays homage to Cristóbal’s roots, inspired by Filipino cosmic mythology and indigenous rituals, the collection channels ancestral spirituality through a futuristic lens. Cosmos-inspired motifs—constellations, astral geometry, lunar shapes—were dominant in garments incorporated via metallic jacquards, chrome appliqué, and reflective paneling. However, the collection incorporated Baybayin scriptures and indigenous tattoos and patterns like encoded prayers, subtly woven into fabric textures and structural silhouettes. This fusion resulted in a collection that feels simultaneously ancient yet advanced—rooted in the sacred but dressed for tomorrow. Cristóbal himself once quoted that fashion is “a place of experiments,” and his 2026 Autumn/Winter feels exactly that: a dialogue between identity and innovation, heritage and hardware, woven together under a galactic gaze. His 2026 collection advances in design vocabulary, with a tactile precision that balances futurism and craft. The fabrics chosen for the collection add tension—coated cottons, and high-sheen vinyls, and what seems like abaca-textured layers and fluid wool blends, creating contrast without conflict. The collection plays with weight and texture, wrapping rigid structures in soft movement. The collection presents a variety of silhouettes in sculptural tones; sharply tailored jackets with ergonomic seams, dramatic shoulders, and capes that billow with ceremonial grace. Cristóbal’s commitment to body-conscious design shows in how these pieces move—structured yet breathable, almost kinetic. Additionally, the collection accommodates technical elements like LED piping beneath transparent layers, reflective panels as armors, and stitching that mimics circuitry. Moreover, accessories pull together the themes with precision, such as headpieces that nod to robotics, evoking the mechanical elegance of his past pageant works without overt reference. A deep, moody palette grounds the collection: silver chrome and galactic blues are tempered by earth reds and neutral fibers, suggesting both orbit and origin. Every detail feels intentional—engineered poetry in motion. With an intergalactic collection at the Thailand Fashion Week, Cristóbal reasserts his position as a visionary voice in Southeast Asian fashion—bridging the ancestral and the avant-garde with signature clarity. This collection proves his ability once again to use tradition with speculative aesthetics—what some call “techno-folklore”—feels increasingly relevant in a region balancing identity and global modernity. More than a designer, Cristóbal is a mentor, a platform-builder, and a provocateur. As whispers of his next move begin, one question lingers in Bangkok’s fashion circles: will SS27 bring digital textiles, biotech couture—or something entirely unimagined? • Heritage Meets Haute: Zhuojiaren x Red Palace Aw Collection Stuns At Thailand Fashion Week

Heritage Meets Haute: Zhuojiaren x Red Palace Aw Collection Stuns At Thailand Fashion Week By Ananya Patankar Heritage Meets Haute: Zhuojiaren x Red Palace Aw Collection Stuns At Thailand Fashion Week 13 July 2025 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement From mandarin collars to sweeping capes: East‑West dialogue redefined for AW25/26 Blending Chinese heritage with modern structure, ZHUOJIAREN x RED PALACE’s AW25/26 collection presented a quiet strength—where sculpted silhouettes, rich textiles, and refined detailing met on equal footing. When Zhuojiaren joined forces with Red Palace at Thailand Fashion Week ’s Femme runway, it wasn’t just a show, it was a statement. The collection was built with intention on clarity and control. The Femme lineup leaned into precision: strong silhouettes, minimal styling, and a deliberate use of texture and tradition. Rather than dramatizing heritage, the designers distilled it—offering a wardrobe that was structured, symbolic, and fully modern. At the heart of this collaboration are two distinct yet deeply connected design houses. Zhuojiaren, led by creative mentor Benjamin Wong, is known for its refined tailoring and intellectual approach to form. Partnering with Red Palace—a heritage label founded in 2007 by Zhang Yaru and her daughter Deng Liyuan, who now heads design at Zhuojiaren—the collection draws from a shared lineage. Their vision is clear: to merge tradition with clarity, and craft garments that carry the weight of legacy without ever feeling nostalgic. The Autumn/Winter 2025–26 collection is rooted in the idea of evolution—not as departure from heritage, but as a refined progression. Drawing on symbols of Chinese dynastic elegance, the designers explored how tradition can be reshaped through precision and restraint. The collection doesn’t speak loudly; instead, it holds presence through silhouette, material, and form. There’s a quiet dialogue running through each look—between East and West, past and present, heritage and intention. Rather than reference history directly, the pieces echo it: in the fold of a sleeve, a collar line, a choice of fabric. It’s heritage, held in tension with modern clarity. The collection incorporated a palette which was rich, controlled, and intentionally regal—deep emerald, garnet, sapphire, and midnight black formed the foundation, punctuated by ivory, steel gray, and hints of muted gold. Fabric choices leaned into tactility: brocades with quiet sheen, wool blends with sculptural weight, and satin that moved with understated fluidity. Embroidery was used sparingly but meaningfully—often tonal, sometimes metallic, always placed with precision. The collection relied on texture to speak where embellishment might once have been louder, creating depth without drama. Every material choice reinforced the collection’s core philosophy: heritage reinterpreted through minimalism and balance. Additionally, the runway opened to a full house at Bangkok’s EM Quartier, with Zhuojiaren x Red Palace positioned as one of the day’s standout presentations. On a stark runway that mirrored the collection’s restraint, each look emerged with composure and intention. Industry observers quickly noted the collaboration’s clarity of vision—refined, composed, and resistant to spectacle. The phrase “a dynasty of design” began circulating backstage and across social media, capturing the inter-generational depth and quiet power on display. In a week of bold gestures, this was a collection that stood out by doing less, and doing it with precision. This collection wasn’t just offering a highlight of Thailand Fashion Week—it was a refined case for the future of cultural fashion. It showed how heritage, when edited with care and confidence, can move forward without losing its core. In an industry often driven by noise, this collection chose discipline over drama. And in doing so, it left a lasting impression: that quiet design, when grounded in purpose, speaks the loudest. • The Pre-Makeup Glow Audit: How Nykaa Rice Water And Glycolic Acid Perfected My Foundation Finish

By Teyana Sharma By Teyana Sharma The Pre-Makeup Glow Audit: How Nykaa Rice Water And Glycolic Acid Perfected My Foundation Finish 12 November 2025 BEAUTY Advertisement Advertisement Every beauty editor has a secret handshake with their favorite foundation—a moment of silent, knowing appreciation for that flawless coverage. But let’s be honest: even the most expensive foundation is only as good as the canvas beneath it. For years, I chased the perfect primer, hoping for a miracle product that could smooth texture, eliminate dullness, and blur pores all at once. What I needed wasn't a product to sit on my skin, but a ritual to refine it. I needed an ultimate glow-prep routine. It took abandoning the heavy, silicone-laden primers and turning back to the fundamentals to find my Holy Grail—a simple, dual-step prep powered by the ancient secrets of rice water paired with the modern brilliance of Glycolic Acid. The true makeup hack isn't a setting spray or a contour trick; it’s a commitment to a smooth, radiant base that needs minimal coverage. Enter the game-changing duo from Nykaa : a cleansing ritual that polishes without stripping, and a milky mist that primes with pure hydration. Step 1: The Reset Button I've long been a skeptic of exfoliating cleansers, fearing the tight, dry feeling they often leave behind. But the Nykaa Collection Rice Water & Glycolic Acid Facewash is a revelation in gentle efficacy. It’s a moment of mindful cleansing that feels rich and non-stripping, yet delivers powerful resurfacing action. The star ingredients here, Glycolic Acid (AHA) and Rice Water , work in perfect synergy. Glycolic Acid is the gentle sculptor, delicately lifting away dead skin cells to smooth texture and refine pores. Meanwhile, the centuries-old wisdom of Rice Water—packed with vitamins and minerals—brightens the complexion and evens out tone. The result isn't just clean skin; it's skin that has been polished to a glass-like sheen, ready to drink up the next step. Step 2: The Glass Skin Veil If the facewash is the polish, the Nykaa Collection Milky Toner Mist With Rice Water & Glycolic Acid is the ultimate blurring, dewy veil. This product is the absolute key to achieving that luminous, expensive-looking makeup finish. Forget sticky primers. This isn't just a toner—it's a multi-tasking prep spray and a moisturizing milk combined into one lightweight mist. The "milky" texture delivers a burst of hydration that instantly plumps the skin and locks in moisture without a trace of oil. The continued application of Rice Water brightens, while the Glycolic Acid gently encourages collagen production, softening the appearance of fine lines over time. For me, this mist replaces my traditional primer. I spritz it liberally after cleansing and before my moisturizer (if needed), allowing the fine mist to settle. It creates a dewy, non-greasy canvas that grips makeup beautifully. My foundation glides over my skin rather than sinking into it, and that dreaded cakey appearance around the nose and forehead is virtually eliminated. It truly gives the skin an instant, bright radiance boost. This two-step routine is less about applying makeup and more about prepping a flawless, bright surface. The combination of gentle exfoliation and dewy, oil-free hydration ensures your skin is at its radiant best before the first drop of foundation even touches it. In the pursuit of that coveted ‘I woke up like this’ glow, remember this: the secret lies not in the makeup you apply, but in the canvas you create. The Nykaa Rice Water & Glycolic Acid pairing doesn't just treat your skin; it optimizes it. Trust me, your foundation will thank you. • How To Create A Capsule Wardrobe

How To Create A Capsule Wardrobe by Priti Sharma How To Create A Capsule Wardrobe 7 November 2022 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement Despite having a wardrobe full of clothing, do you ever tell yourself, "I have nothing to wear." I know firsthand how irritating it can be to have an overflowing wardrobe full of clothes we may not particularly enjoy wearing. Can you genuinely say that you wear every piece of clothing in your closet? If the answer is no, keep reading to learn how to begin effectively cleaning your closet and creating a wardrobe that you will want to wear every day. But first, what is a capsule wardrobe anyway? A capsule wardrobe is a collection of carefully chosen, classic pieces that never go out of style. (Your closet already has a capsule wardrobe.) The things in a capsule wardrobe are the ones you adore wearing every day. Many minimalists contend that a capsule wardrobe should consist of between 30 and 50 things for the whole year, but I disagree. A capsule wardrobe should be created around your lifestyle and comprise items that you enjoy wearing and that make you happy. How to start a capsule wardrobe? Step 1: Analyze your style and lifestyle: Knowing our style is the first step to creating a wardrobe you will enjoy. You can take a style quiz to gain a general idea of what kind dominates in your life. Step 2: Track what you like to wear for 30 days: There are many ways to do this, either by manually tracking down what you wore every day in a notebook or in the note app on your mobile phone whenever and wherever and whatever comes to your mind while working or walking through the park, or while listening to some music. Step 3: The closet clean-out! You will have a better idea of your existing capsule wardrobe that currently exists in your closet after tracking what you wore effortlessly for 30 days. There is no magic number; creating a capsule wardrobe is about choosing the clothes you want to wear. Of course, you'll have gorgeous formal gowns you wear to weddings once a year, as well as your athletic wear and loungewear. They are not included in your capsule. Think of your capsule as your “go-to” rack of things you love to wear every day based on your lifestyle. The second pile represents the bulk of the job; it is now time to classify the remaining items. Before organizing, examine each thing to ensure that the idea of wearing it in the future makes you joyful. I would just get rid of it if it makes you feel guilty or like you have to wear it for "x reason." Sort your clothing into these categories: all-year fundamentals, Summer and spring, autumn and winter, and sell/donate pile. Keep track of the number of things you have in each category before deciding whether to create an annual or seasonal capsule. Although every one of us has a different lifestyle, it's crucial to continue wearing the clothes we enjoy. I personally enjoy creating seasonal capsule wardrobes because it declutters my closet by putting away the things I won't be using, and it allows me to view everything I have for the current season and think of new ways to style and wear the same items. I find it really energizing and enjoyable that when the seasons change, your old clothing transforms into your "new capsule" without the need to shop! Step 4: Define your colors / create a color palette to guide your future shopping: When creating a capsule wardrobe, a color palette is something optional but highly helpful because it serves as a shopping reference. Following the experiment of wearing 30 different products for 30 days, you will discover which colors you like to wear again. These colors may then be added to your color palette reference guide, giving you a direction for choosing colors when you go shopping in the future. Step 5: Map out your capsule and create a wishlist for missing items: It's time to develop a mental or visual map of your capsule or capsules to assist you to purchase less now that you've chosen your basics and given what you don't enjoy. If, after categorizing your wardrobe, you discovered that many of your "all-year staples" can be worn in the fall and winter, you no longer have an excuse to buy a new sweater. Instead, you should experiment with layering and set a goal for yourself to wear your sweaters throughout the year. Making a checklist of how many additional tops you believe you could need can help you finish your spring capsule wardrobe. You might have discovered during your closet clean-out that you don't have enough new and breathable tops for spring. Step 6: Rewear before you have the urge to buy again: This is the stage when you learn to be more creative, thus I believe it to be my favorite. I try to make myself put on an item from my closet that I haven't worn in a while whenever I feel the want to purchase it. It's acceptable to just get rid of it and donate it to someone who might enjoy and re-wear it more than you if you try to re-wear anything and you don't feel confident or attractive in it. We never have the perfect closet, and occasionally we hang onto things because we are not used to letting go. Step 7: Invest in quality over quantity, your clothes shouldn’t cost as much as your cup of coffee, and here’s why: Learn about the fibers used in the clothing you buy, as well as the implications of tossing away clothing, if you want to become a more deliberate consumer. Did you know that 85% of textile waste in the USA ends up in landfills? Rewearing is the main way to lessen your fashion footprint. If you must purchase anything new, consider buying used items or supporting firms that are ethical, sustainable, and that use natural and organic textiles as well as recycled materials when producing their clothing. Sometimes, environmentally friendly clothing may cost more than conventional clothing, but this is only because environmentally friendly manufacturers pledge to pay their employees a fair salary and to use only premium, natural, or recycled materials. Your clothing shouldn't be as expensive as your morning brew. We must develop the habit of paying reasonable rates for goods. #Fashion #Capsule Wardrobe #Clothing #collection #Style #Colours SEARCH Why does Fashion Need Fashion Shows FASHION From Dreams To Crowns: Anuradha Garg’s Inspiring Mrs. India Story FASHION Colour Psychology in Fashion: Explained FASHION Legendary Female Icons Who Made Fashion Statements In The 20th Century FASHION The House of Chanel: History FASHION POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement By Sakshi Shah The Art Of Resort Dressing, According To Hanne Bloch 30 July 2026 FASHION By Sakshi Shah The New Foundations Of Style, According To Invogue 27 June 2026 FASHION By Sakshi Shah What's The Colour Of My Voice: Inside The Wonderfully Strange World Of Absent Findings' SS27 23 June 2026 FASHION By Sakshi Shah Caslay and the New Language of Conscious Dressing 17 June 2026 FASHION RELATED POSTS Advertisement

Speaking of which, the gracious actor talks about her journey, mentioning, "I began as a manager in a salon and opportunities were presented naturally, quite willingly by others and situations supported those opportunities and I was fortunate enough to take advantage. It has been a passion of mine, all my life." Talking of obstacles, one doesn’t always get what she/he wants. "I prefer to perceive rejections as challenges, motivating me to do better," the actress says, gracefully. The very thought of making it huge in spite of rejections, hypes one up. In a creative field such as acting, it is a regular roller coaster where every artist goes through rejections and fame. The journey of fame deals with the public eye and staying grounded is very important. Ramandeep comments when asked how she deals with fame, "I stay humble." Ramandeep Kaur expresses her inspiration to be the humble blockbuster star, Diljit Dosanjh. While getting inspired in all ways, Ramandeep comments on her love for fashion. "I love fashion and I follow all trends to ensure I am always on top of it." Fashion brings in a lot of stereotypes attached to it as interpreted by society, majorly associated with body shaming and fitness. However, being an actress it's perceived differently, "I understand that the world is becoming diverse and is allowing people of all shapes and sizes to share the spotlight. However, I myself attend the gym regularly to maintain my figure." To stay on top, in both, one's professional and personal life, is a big deal. Thus to mark the lines between reel and real life for an actor is even more tough! "I stay in character on set and on only on set, I never take my character home with me. My personal life is a completely separate entity from my work." This actually is difficult to fathom for the readers as the work she engages in all seem so perfectly put, however, that is what would also make a rising beauty, like her, such a great actress! "My work does not affect my personal life as I try to be professional to all extents, taking my personal life seriously and looking after it as closely as I do for my career." As the audience looks forward to her engaging them in more of her films, it is also interesting to have a glance at her perspective. The career of every actor brings her to different roles and it is quite obvious to be biased to one or having regrets in having played a certain character. However, for Ramandeep, there are no regrets in the roles she has enacted. "I am proud of all the characters I have had the opportunity to play." • Unveiling the Myth: Does Pretty Privilege Truly Exist

Unveiling the Myth: Does Pretty Privilege Truly Exist LIFESTYLE Unveiling the Myth: Does Pretty Privilege Truly Exist By Anushka Sharma 17 April 2024 Advertisement In a world where Instagram filters reign supreme and beauty standards constantly evolve, the concept of pretty privilege has sparked countless debates. But what exactly is pretty privilege, and does it really exist? Let's embark on a journey through the realms of attractiveness and societal advantages to uncover the truth behind this captivating notion. First things first, what is pretty privilege? Simply put, it's the idea that attractive individuals enjoy certain benefits solely based on their appearance. From getting better job opportunities to receiving special treatment in social settings, the notion suggests that being conventionally attractive comes with its set of perks. But hold on a second! Before we jump to conclusions, let's break it down. Is pretty privilege a real phenomenon or just a figment of our imagination? Well, the answer isn't as black and white as we might think. Sure, being attractive might catch the eye of others and open some doors, but does it guarantee success and happiness? Not quite. While a beautiful face might grab attention, it's what lies beneath the surface that truly matters. Personality, skills, and character play a far more significant role in determining one's journey through life. Let's take a closer look at some common scenarios often associated with pretty privilege. Ever heard of the phrase, "Beauty opens doors"? Well, it might hold some truth. Studies have shown that attractive individuals are more likely to land job interviews and receive favorable treatment in certain situations. But does that mean they have it easy all the time? Certainly not. Consider this: A stunning applicant might catch the recruiter's eye, but it's their qualifications and skills that seal the deal. Pretty privilege might get your foot in the door, but it's your capabilities that keep it open. After all, no amount of beauty can compensate for incompetence. In social settings, attractive people might attract more attention and receive compliments more frequently. But does that translate to genuine connections and meaningful relationships? Not necessarily. True friendships and romantic connections are built on mutual respect, shared interests, and emotional compatibility, not just physical appearance. Moreover, beauty standards vary widely across cultures and individuals. What one society deems attractive might be completely different from another's perception. So, who decides what's pretty and what's not? It's all subjective. Now, let's address the elephant in the room: discrimination based on appearance. Yes, unfortunately, it does exist. Studies have shown that less attractive individuals might face prejudice in certain situations, such as hiring processes or social interactions. But does that mean pretty privilege is the flip side of the same coin? Not quite. Rather than focusing on the privileges or disadvantages associated with appearance, perhaps it's time we shift our perspective. Instead of fixating on beauty standards and societal expectations, let's celebrate diversity and individuality. After all, true beauty lies in embracing our uniqueness and loving ourselves for who we are, not how we look. So, does pretty privilege exist? Well, it's complicated. While attractiveness might open some doors, it's what we do once we're inside that truly matters. Let's strive to create a world where everyone is judged based on their character, skills, and contributions rather than their appearance. After all, that's where true privilege lies – in being valued for who we are, not how we look. • Prostitution And Criminalization

SOCIETY by Anushka Singh Prostitution And Criminalization 1 September 2020 SOCIETY Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement Prostitution being one of the major social ills existing in Indian society, undeniably is a matter of critical concern. It occurs in different forms and its legal status differs from country to country ranging from being an enforced or unenforced crime, to regulated or an unregulated profession. Reflecting differing opinions, the position of prostitution varies widely worldwide. Some believe that paid sex is so entrenched in our society that our focus must be in keeping it upright and unassailable rather than prosecuting it. While some simply perceive the idea of prostitution as a legitimate occupation, others as an institution are the supporters of ‘Nordic Model’ which makes the purchase of sex illegal but decriminalizes the act of selling it. This approach has also been adopted by various countries like Canada, Ireland, Iceland, Norway and France. The juridical position of prostitution has been a subject of grave debate during recent years. And like every debate has, sex work likewise has two ends to it which must be analysed before arriving at a deemed conclusion. The question is, should we legalise it or keep it criminal? Here is a brief to both ends of the debate. Keeping it criminal Even after legalizing prostitution with best intentions of retrenching human trafficking and criminal enterprises, some countries still suffer from illegal counterparts. For example, illegal bordellos still exist in the Netherlands, a country which legalized prostitution in 1988 and prostitutes continue to suffer abuses at the hands of the procurer. Another major argument is, prostitution promotes degrading attitudes toward women and obliquely invites violence against them. The fact that 80% of sex workers are female can not be overlooked and they are more likely to be raped or murdered than any other population because of the malicious behaviour people have towards them. And so by the necessity to protect and save themselves, either from physical harm or destitution, an enormous female contingent of female sex workers fall out of option and throw themselves at the mercy of the men they serve. Cruelly, society often blames women for the violence against them, theorizing how she must have brought the trouble on herself. The only way to combat such attitudes and realities is to increase legal measures against who perpetuate the prostitution industry. Legalizing it Criminalization of prostitution leaves sex workers on the fringes of society, making them vulnerable to violence, poverty and health issues whereas legalization bypasses the most dangerous aspects of prostitution. Decriminalization also allows sex workers to get help from police in incidences of violence. Also, it provides them access to social security and public health care. It has been noted that sexually transmitted infections are statistically lower in areas where prostitution is decriminalized. Legalization also helps to concede that consensual prostitution has a victimless nature. The internet bristle with the testimonials of sex workers evincing their consent on having a career in sex. Along with manifesting their assent, these personalities have also stated the disparity between themselves and those who are browbeaten or compelled into this social evil. Even if the ethical framework of prostitution is not clear, society should avoid binding sex-trade which as a reaction does not harm individuals or the society itself. The ultimate line In either way, prostitution remains to not be an ascendant practice as there are so many prospects and the presence of both willing and unwilling individuals dealing through discrete circumstances, finding their way out somehow. • Off Script, On Truth: Anshumaan Pushkar In His Own Words

Off Script, On Truth: Anshumaan Pushkar In His Own Words By Ananya Patankar Off Script, On Truth: Anshumaan Pushkar In His Own Words 30 June 2025 COVER STORIES Advertisement Anshumaan Pushkar’s screen characters may exude intensity and silence, but off-screen, he’s refreshingly open, often goofy, and endlessly curious. In this honest conversation, he reflects on finding his rhythm—from the small-town chaos of Mokama to monologues that moved the nation. “I wasn't the first choice—but I became the right one.” Anshumaan speaks like someone who knows exactly where he came from, what it took to get here, and why the work—not the noise around it—matters. No performance, no myth-making. Just an actor who started from nowhere, reflected from his past, and built a career by paying attention. To craft. To people. To the stillness in between. From a small town in Bihar, Ashumaan knew he was meant for greater things. He expresses that “The urge to express was always there. I wasn’t a quiet kid—I danced, I performed, I mimicked everyone.” There was no road-map, no exposure, no acting school. What’s astonishing is that nothing about his journey was designed for the life he has now. It was all instinct, all self-taught. And somehow, that’s what makes it all work. As a child, Anshumaan was driven by a restless need to express. He would dance at weddings, mimic actors, and even imitate his school teachers just to entertain those around him. “I used to lock myself in my room and copy Hrithik Roshan or Govinda,” he recalls. His mother would watch from the doorway, often laughing, sometimes amused, sometimes surprised—but never dismissive. “She saw it as silly, maybe even strange, but she never stopped me,” he says. Without formal training or a clear path, he built his early discipline alone—practising monologues during lockdowns, experimenting with gestures and voices, rehearsing in private, like it meant everything. And in many ways, it did. That early, obsessive dedication is what carried him to the sets he stands on today. He describes that coming from a small town, the film industry seems like a fantasy world. Anshuman was following the script everyone around him expected—“study, job, settle down”, this did not stop the spark inside him. Conveniently, when the time to choose where to do his MBA came, he picked Mumbai—not for the degree, but for proximity, at the Ekjute Theatre Group . He says, “Cinema was the only reason I chose Mumbai. I wanted to be near the industry, even if I wasn’t in it yet.” With great resilience Anshumaan sprinted towards his dreams, he expresses that “this was the moment I said to myself—enough of waiting on the sidelines. The stage is there. Now you have to be there. Somehow, anyhow.” His first major break came with Jamtara , a project he auditioned for in 2017. “I felt like this was the kind of character I wanted to do. It felt right,” he says. But the process wasn’t immediate—shooting didn’t begin until 2018, and the release took even longer. “There was a one-and-a-half-year wait after we finished shooting. That confusion, that silence—it was real.” During that gap, he held on to one thing: theatre. “Theatre never let me feel useless,” he says. “Even when nothing else was happening, getting recognized on stage, even by ten people, was enough to keep going.” His passion for the stagecraft just grew stronger no matter the hindrances. The storms Ashumaan weathered strengthened not only his resilience, but also his instincts as an actor. He explains “I like to experience the emotion of a character rather than just map it out intellectually.” He doesn’t separate technique from emotion—he blends them. “You mix your own soul into the words written on paper,” he says, “and somewhere in that process, the performance becomes real.” Anshumaan’s effort as an actor is to embody the soul of every character he plays. He reflects on what a director once advised him, “You’re pretending to feel it, but when you actually feel it, there’ll be no difference between you and the character.” That’s the standard he holds himself to now—an internal honesty that can’t be faked, and shouldn’t be. It’s this depth of commitment to performance that often blurs the line between actor and character—so much so that people assume he’s exactly like the roles he plays. He mentions that the audience often pictures him in reference to his characters, broody, serious, and intense, however on the contrary he is the complete opposite. Anshumaan admits that “In reality, I’m fun-loving, adventurous… sometimes even goofy.” He recalls that his work in Moonwalk gave him the chance to do something entirely different. It gave him a space to express his true self. The character was lighter, more playful, and far from what audiences expected of him. “It was a shift,” he says, “but I relied on instinct, leaned into the rhythm of it.” With little prep time, he improvised freely, found humour in the moment, and surprised even himself. “That set taught me you don’t always need control—sometimes, you just need presence.” That ability to stay present—to read a room, adapt, and react without overthinking—comes from a habit he’s had since childhood. “Observation is my biggest tool now,” he says. Whether it was mimicking teachers or studying how someone walked or spoke, he was always absorbing. “Earlier, it was imitation for fun. Now, it’s about understanding emotion. That’s what helps me build truth into a character.” He didn’t have legacy, training, or access—just sharp observation, relentless patience, and a belief that even a boy from Mokama could belong in cinema. Everything he knows, he’s learned by doing: watching actors with reverence, listening to directors like a student, and trusting the rhythm of his own instinct. “I don’t know how it became reality,” he says, thinking back to the boy who once danced in a locked room while his mother smiled at the door. “But I think he’d be proud.” And maybe that’s the most powerful thing about Anshumaan Pushkar—he doesn’t just honour his craft, he honors the quiet, persistent child who had faith in himself, to craft his dreams into reality.
