  • Behind The Brushes: How Diksha Sachdev Redefined The Art Of Makeup

Behind The Brushes: How Diksha Sachdev Redefined The Art Of Makeup By Akshra Khandelwal Behind The Brushes: How Diksha Sachdev Redefined The Art Of Makeup 31 August 2023 FASHION Advertisement Diksha Sachdev has risen as a shining star in the world of beauty and makeup, where artistry meets inspiration. With her vibrant Instagram account and now venturing into the world of YouTube, she has captured the hearts of makeup enthusiasts across the globe. In an exclusive interview with our magazine, Diksha shares her journey, her inspirations, and her dreams for the future. "How's everything going?" I asked, to which she replied with contagious excitement, "Everything's going great. We're finally expanding our business and tapping into YouTube, and I couldn't be more thrilled." It was evident that Diksha's passion for makeup was a creative outlet and a potential career path she was enthusiastically embracing. Her journey began around three years ago when she got her hands on the iconic James Charles X Morphe eyeshadow palette. "I knew then that my first post had to use this eyeshadow palette. So I created a warm, colourful look using it. I was so nervous about the judgement, but I went with my gut, and luckily, it was very well received," Diksha shared with a smile. When asked about her makeup inspiration, she credited the likes of Malvika Sitlani, James Charles, and Nikkie Tutorials. "Through Malvika's content, I learnt to keep up with the Indian beauty industry; James Charles taught me how to step out of the box and create uniqueness; Nikkie taught me patience and precision." Her process of creating a new look is a testament to her dedication. "I have been passionate about makeup since college; since then, I kept trying different looks and products with the help of beauty gurus. After a few months, I decided to show my passion towards makeup to people on Instagram. This happened for the sole reason of showcasing my skills," she revealed. Lockdown allowed her to be more consistent and resilient, even in the face of minimal results. Her perseverance paid off when she joined a makeup school, took on clients, hosted online workshops, and proved to her parents that content creation could lead to a stable career. "Little did I know then that I could make a full-time career out of it. I've learnt, 'If there's a passion within you, the mind finds a way to work things out,'" she expressed with profound wisdom. As we delved into her daily makeup essentials, Diksha shared her must-haves: sunscreen, a concealer of her shade, a cream blush, loose powder, mascara, and lip gloss. And her current favourite product? "Wow, that's quite difficult. If I had to choose one, it'd be the Smashbox halo healthy glow one-tinted moisturiser," she revealed. For aspiring creators, Diksha's advice is empowering. "Be confident in your skill, do not be afraid of judgement, don't be shy to ask for help; I still ask for help/gain knowledge from fellow creators, be humble, do not get disheartened if your content doesn't work well. All you have to do is remind yourself why you started in the first place and up-skill yourself." Looking ahead, her goals for her Instagram account reflect her dedication to her audience. "I intend to create more content and upscale with time. I also love helping my audience with product recommendations and the issues they face in makeup and skincare," she shared. Diksha's journey from a makeup enthusiast to a thriving influencer reflects the power of passion, creativity, and perseverance. She continues to inspire and guide makeup enthusiasts worldwide through her captivating content. As we concluded the interview, I couldn't help but feel inspired by her story—a testament to the belief that following one's passion with determination can lead to fulfilling and successful ventures. Diksha Sachdev's success story is a reminder that authenticity and dedication stand out in the vast world of influencers and content creators. Her journey inspires aspiring makeup artists and content creators, showing them that with a touch of creativity and a sprinkle of confidence, they, too, can make a mark in the ever-evolving landscape of the beauty industry. So, remember Diksha's words of wisdom, whether you're an aspiring makeup artist or looking to delve into content creation. Find your passion, be true to yourself, and let your creativity shine. As Diksha Sachdev expands her horizons, we anticipate the magic she'll bring to our screens next. Until then, let's draw inspiration from her journey and embark on our own path to success. • Anger and it’s ill effects

Anger and it’s ill effects by Aparajita Jaiswal Anger and it’s ill effects 1 June 2021 LIFESTYLE Advertisement Anger, Setting You and Your Health at War. An insight into the effects of poorly managed anger upon mental and physical health. Anger, warmth, rage, aggression, something every human is acquainted with. People usually have many tales to narrate, either about themselves or about situations that went worse in a fit of anger. Anger is one of the emotions among the ocean of emotions that every human being deals with every single day. The personality of a person depends upon how he responds to his emotions, the way in which anger is managed to play a major part role. Like everything else in the world, anger has both the positives and the negatives, YET THE ILL EFFECTS OF ANGER ARE MORE EVIDENTLY KNOWN AND SEEN. If you are someone prone to losing temper, here’s why you need to stay calm. Anger, to a limited extent, is good and proves to be beneficial. It helps people think rationally and is a source of motivation for some of the people out there. The general fact is, anger can be good for you if addressed quickly and expressed in a healthy way. In reality, more often than not, anger proves to be hazardous and the ill effects of anger weigh a lot more than its positive effects. Anger does not just affect you but adversely affects the people around you as well. The unhealthy episodes of anger, when held for considerably longer periods, usually ends up as an explosion in rage and can wreak havoc on your body. Anger is a powerful emotion and thus has destructive effects when not handled appropriately. The underlying cause of such havoc lies in the fact that anger triggers the body’s “fight or flight” hormone, i.e., adrenal glands flood the blood with stress hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol. The brain consequently shunts blood away from the gut and towards the muscles as preparation for physical exertion. Thus, the heart rate, blood pressure and respiration increase. Skin perspires and body temperature also increases. This creates an image of a person in a fit of rage. An angry person is so rightly animated in cartoons or comics as someone who is grinding teeth, tightening arms with closed fists and fire used symbolizes the rise of temperature within and around the individual. The constant flow of stress hormones and the metabolic changes associated with seven major health issues that arise out of uncontrolled anger that one needs to know: Frequent outbursts put your heart at great risk: In words of Chris Aiken, MD, an instructor in clinical psychiatry at the wake Forest University School of Medicine and director of the Mood Treatment Center in Winston Salem, “In the two hours after an angry outburst, the chance of having a heart attack doubles.” “Repressed anger – where you express it indirectly or go to great lengths to control it, is associated with heart disease” Dr Aiken adds. Increases the stroke risk: If you’re prone to outburst, beware. A study suggests that the risk of a stroke from a blood clot to the brain or bleeding within the brain during the two hours after an outburst. Furthermore, the arteries of the brain are prone to six times higher risk of such bleeding. Weakens the immune system: The state of mind undoubtedly has a behavioral impact. If you are mad all the time, there is an obvious chance that you feel sick always. A fit of anger causes a dip in levels of the antibodies. Anxiety: Anxiety and anger go hand in hand. In a study carried out in 2021, researchers found that anger can exacerbate symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder characterized by an excessive and uncontrolled worry affecting an individual’s daily life. Depression: Anger in its elevated state, becomes a cause of self-destruction and adversely affects your loved ones as well and such destruction obviously becomes a cause of depression. Numerous studies have linked depression with aggression and angry outbursts. Effects on the lungs: Even if you aren’t a smoker, you can still hurt your lungs if you’re perpetually angry and a hostile person. Anger can shorten your life span: Scary, isn’t it? The fact that happy people live longer is really true. With anger, comes stress and stress is in every way harmful. The key to save yourself from such huge havoc and safeguard your health is to learn to appropriately express anger. The key to begin is to try and start calming yourself down. In case you find a difficult to deal with negative emotions or expressing anger, therapy and counseling will always help. Assertive communication, effective problem solving, using humor, or restricting your thoughts to get away from that black-and-white, all-or-nothing thinking are good ways to get over anger. Getting yourself involved in the activities that interest you so much and make you happy proves to be an effective measure as well. • 10 Must Try Classic Cocktails

by Akash Khatri 10 Must Try Classic Cocktails 7 July 2022 FOOD Advertisement Advertisement You can’t go wrong with a classic cocktail. Whether you’re craving a tried-and-true Dark N Stormy, or a posh Cosmo. Here are 10 must try Classic Cocktails. COSMOPOLITAN: The origin of the Cosmopolitan is disputed. But one popular story is that the Cosmo was created by a college student named Neal Murray. He did not get the job just because of the management’s racism. But once while they were all away for a weekend for an event, the staff snuck him in. In three days, they trained him. And by the time the management returned, his talent and skill made them accept him as the new bartender. One night he was experimenting with the cocktail, Kamikaze. He discovered that adding a splash of cranberry juice to the drink gave it a delightful pink color, and a delicious fruity punch. When someone asked him what it was, he said he didn’t know. The customer responded by calling it “very Cosmopolitan”, which is how it got the name. SCREWDRIVER: Why would one call a drink made of vodka and juice “screwdriver”? The screwdriver originated when American Oil workers in the oil fields of Turkey, started adding vodka to their orange juice, for an extra kick. And since they didn’t have any spoons handy, they stirred it with screwdrivers. That explains the name. And since they weren’t supposed to be drinking on the job, “Screwdriver” was an easy way to refer to it without ginning it away. TOM COLLINS: In 1874, there was a mass prank going around in New York in which people used to tell their friends that a man named Tom Collins had been spreading nasty rumors about him or her in a nearby bar. People would then go to the local pub and ask for Tom Collins. The bartender of the pub heard that joke too many times and got an idea. After that, the next time somebody ran into the bar demanding to see Tom Collins; the bartender gave a refreshing gin cocktail. LONG ISLAND ICED TEA: A consistent theme with classic cocktails- the Long Island Iced Tea also has multiple origin stories. Some claim the drink originated during the prohibition, when an older gentleman with an entrepreneurial spirit created a cocktail to look like iced tea as a way to drink by disguise. Not only did the iced tea look aesthetic, but also having five different alcohols definitely added to the appeal. MARTINI: Martini is a mixture of gin and dry vermouth. In the early 1860s, people used to frequently go to the Occidental Hotel in San Francisco and order bartender Jerry Thomas’s special mixture of gin and dry vermouth. And then they would take an evening ferry to the nearby town of Martinez. The bartender later named his signature cocktail ‘Martini’ in reference to the destination people headed to after consuming the drink. MOJITO: A 16th century in Cuba holds resemblance to the modern-day Mojito. This mixture of mint, rum, sugar, and lime juice was originally made with a harsh liquor called aguardiente. The lime juice and sugar used to cut the hard taste. The name of the drink comes from a Cuban spice made from limes, called mojo. BLOODY MARY: In the 1920s, Fernand Petiot, an American mixed up equal parts tomato juice and vodka. A patron in the bar suggested he call the drink “Bloody Mary.” He said it reminded him of the Bucket of Blood Club in Chicago, and a girl he knew there named Mary. When he took the recipe to New York, the people weren’t too impressed at first. They said the drink tasted a bit bland. He added black pepper, cayenne pepper, Worcestershire sauce, lemon and a splash of tabasco pepper sauce, for those who wanted it. And that’s how an American classic was born. DARK N STORMY: Made of spicy ginger beer and rich Gosling’s Black Seal dark rum, the drink allegedly got its name from an old sailor who compared the drink’s murky hue to the color of storm clouds. An old fisherman commented on how it looked, comparing it to a cloud “only a fool or dead man would sail under.” It’s an unproven legend. But the drink’s connection to the joys and dangers of seafaring is well-established. BELLINI: This delightful wine cocktail is a blend of white peach puree and Prosecco. Giuseppe Cipriani, started mixing up the fruity tipples in 1934 and the pink color of the drink reminded him of a saint’s toga from a painting by Italian Renaissance artist Giovanni Bellini. Thus, he named his cocktail ‘Bellini’ in honor of the painter and his artwork. MARGARITA: There is an old drink which is a mix of brandy, triple sec, and lemon juice; called the Daisy. A bartender in Tijuana, Mexico was making a Daisy and accidentally grabbed a bottle of tequila instead of brandy. The accident became a hit at the bar. And it was then made famous as a new drink called Margarita, the Spanish word for the Daisy. by Aishwarya Virgin Territory: These non-alcoholic thirst quenchers are mixologist approved 2 November 2022 FOOD Advertisement Advertisement Are you a non-alcoholic person? Well, if yes, then having a drink at that party would be a task for you. All thanks to mocktails that come to the rescue. Well, what is a mocktail? Mocktail is a cocktail, without alcohol. Just like a cocktail, a mocktail is made by mixing different fruit juices. They are a fun way to get drinking without alcohol. Mocktails are often called names, like the non-alcoholic cocktail, non-alcoholic mixed drink, spirit-free drink, and the famous virgin drink. All these names are identifying the same thing; mocktails. Mocktails are made in many different ways. For example, the infusion method is where the ingredients are infused with each other. While the word infusion might make it sound like a difficult process, it's quite easy to pull off. Another method is known as Oleo Saccharum. Never heard of it? It is a Latin word for “oil sugar”. This is in context with the process of using sugar to extract aromatic oils from citrus. So, mocktails prepared like this will have delicious looks, taste and, smell. Another method preferred by those who love creamy drinks is egg whites. Incorporating egg whites into the drink makes it denser, creamier, rich and silky. Then comes; shrub- a non-alcoholic drink that is made with fruit, sugar, aromatics and vinegar. (Yes, you read that right!) Well, as gross as it sounds, it isn’t that bad the taste. It just adds that zing of tanginess to your mocktails. Now that we know about mocktails and their process, let’s dive into the vast variety of them. Mango Mule: Mango is that national crush, which is everyone's favourite. You can never go wrong with mango, the right process and, the right combinations. Mango Mule is a cool and refreshing drink. It consists of spices that just hits the right spots. It has fresh mint, ginger, mango and lots of love! Citrus Fizz: This is the perfect drink for the summer reason. It just tastes like gin and tonic, but the best part is that it has fruits. It is a refreshing drink, with hints of fruits in there. Virgin Cucumber Gimlet: This cool and refreshing drink has been enjoyed for decades now. It has a crisp taste that was derived from fresh cucumbers, and not distilled water. It is a classic mocktail that is perfect for any celebration. Shirley Temple: As absurd as the name of the drink is, it is a tasty and refreshing drink to have. It goes well with any celebration at any time. It has the fruitiness and also the fizz of the soda, that will make your palette dance. Arnold Palmer: As the name suggests, it is the favourite summertime drink of the golf legend Arnold Palmers. It is made with half tea and lemonade with honey. It is tasty, healthy, and easy-peasy! Dalgona Coffee: The next candidate is Dalgona Coffee! We cannot forget the craze and hype, Dalgona Coffee had during the pandemic. We all have tried this recipe at least once at our homes. Well, the recipe is not even needed for this one, but still, it is made with whipped cream and coffee. This mocktail is the best to have before an office meeting, to get into the boss vibes! Well, mocktails are a great alternative to avoid alcohol. While we have many recipes out there, you can always try and mix your favourite juices and make one for yourselves. But in our industry, there’s also a little bit of luck factor which I feel exists at the right place and at the right time. Sometimes, you may be perfect for a certain role but somebody else might get it. I really do believe in destiny and luck, but that doesn’t take away the fact that you have to work hard, be very talented and do a great job to leave that mark. In the end, the audience needs to love you and your work,” she added. Dutta started her career in 2012, starring in the Telugu film Chanakyudu. The following year, she made her television debut in the Star Plus serial Ek Ghar Banaunga. Since then, she has gone on to star in many television serials, music videos and films. Talking about her experience so far as an actress, she said, “My experience in this industry has been fabulous. I, of course, want to do a lot more projects and there’s a lot to explore. Sometimes I feel I still haven’t gotten certain opportunities that I wish for in terms of roles or certain projects or working with certain people, but I believe that will happen in time. But I have had a very good experience with all the people I have worked with so far. They’ve been very nice and supportive. I have learnt and enjoyed a lot. I love everything about being an actor.” In 2015, Dutta made her Bollywood film debut with Drishyam, alongside Ajay Devgn, Tabu and Shriya Saran. The film was a big success and Dutta received positive reviews for her performance as Anju Salgaonkar, the daughter of Ajay Devgn’s character. “We have started filming for Drishyam 2 and I’m really excited about it. It’s happening after six years and I think people are going to enjoy it. The film is also more interesting than the first part, so I’m really looking forward to it. There’s another film that I’d be working on with my husband, Vatsal. We’re going to be back on screen after a really long time. Apart from these, there are a couple of projects lined up at the end of this year, which I’m excited about,” she said, while talking about her current and upcoming projects. Actresses usually have role models who inspire and influence their careers. They cite great actors as their inspirations. But for Dutta, inspiration is something that comes from anywhere, any platform and language. “I believe there is so much content available and you’re constantly watching so many films, characters, and actors who do such great jobs and you get inspired. There are many people, actors, and characters that have really inspired me and they make me want to do a better job every day,” she shared. When asked where she sees her acting career taking her, she said, “Honestly, I don’t think about where I’m going, where I’m headed, or what’s going to happen after a certain number of years. I look at what’s happening currently, take up good projects that come for me and make the best out of them. I try to live in the present so I’ll be happy wherever my acting career takes me. I will just follow what my destiny has in store for me.” Dutta shared that she is often typecast as a simple girl in films. She wishes to play different roles and characters. “To be very honest, I still feel I haven’t really played a character who is very different. I somehow tend to get very similar characters like the girl next door. I have not really done an outright negative role. I did play a cop in the action film, Blank. I had to do a lot of action in the film and my body language was very different, which I enjoyed. But I think most of my characters have been very positive and simple. This is what I really want to change as an actor. I want a chance to play different kinds of roles and do something that is different from what people normally presume me to be,” she added. The entertainment industry can be a hard place for actresses, who are often body shamed and trolled in social media. Women empowerment and body positivity is much needed in the industry. Dutta shared her views on feminism and said, “I totally support women empowerment and I am absolutely against people who body shame others. Body shaming has been happening for decades and its high time people be sensitive toward others. Let people make decisions about their own bodies. Everyone has a different body type. You can be of any shape and size. I believe people should simply focus on being healthy, eating right, and sleeping on time.” Further, she thanked her fans and viewers for all their love and support. She advised the younger generation not to get influenced by the glamour of social media. “Don’t let negativity and trolls get to you. Try to be grounded and stand up for other people,” she added. • SITTING = DANGER!

SITTING = DANGER! by Akash Khatri SITTING = DANGER! 1 October 2020 LIFESTYLE Advertisement We belong to the “Tech Age” where the magic happens at the tap of a finger. It has made our lives easier but it has led us to a sedentary lifestyle, everything good comes with a hidden bad. You’ll be sitting in a beautiful bubble of procrastination while others will rejoice the finishing prize of the race. “Sitting is the new smoking.” It’s an addiction which develops slowly and silently. While sitting down all day may seem harmless, you may be surprised by the negative impact it has on your health. Especially in the recent decades, the population has become increasingly sedentary, with many adults spending 70% or more of their waking hours sitting. Research suggests that only 21 per cent of adults are meeting the physical activity guidelines, while less than 5 per cent perform 30 minutes of physical activity per day. The American Academy of Pediatrics counsels parents to limit children’s screen time—television, DVDs, and video games—to no more than 2 hours per day. You never realize the presence of the “Sitting disease” unless you have foes disguised as family knocking on your front door. There is Mother Obesity, Father Cholesterol, Brother Stroke and Sister Diabetes; who will eventually tuck you to bed, in a cosy casket for eternity even before you realize. Research published in 2010 proves that there are several adverse effects such as: Low energy expenditure Slower metabolism Cardiovascular diseases Compromised posture Back and spine injuries Reduced social skills Loneliness or depression Metabolic Syndrome Chronic Pain ………. to name a few. Another study analyzed data collected over 15 years and found that sedentary lifestyles were associated with an increased risk of early death regardless of physical activity levels and mental health disorders. Stare at a donkey long enough and it also looks beautiful. Time flies fast but goes by faster while binge-watching three seasons straight of “Friends”, driving across the city, finger-licking the last pack of fiery Cheetos, typing the never-ending presentation your boss asked you, writing those thousand-page assignments, finishing the last bottle of Pinot Noir in the cellar, scrolling through posts of people turned bakers and artists or by simply staring at the whitewashed walls. It doesn’t matter if you sit but whether you get up or not. Fixing this might seem like gargantuan efforts at first but it’s all worth it at the end considering the welfare it gets along. Start with something simple initially. Walk to the grocery store instead of ordering it online, who knows you might meet a school mate along the way. Take the stairs instead of waiting for the stuck lift. Get on those running shoes and watch the beautiful sunrise, I promise it will be worth it. Start gardening – who wouldn’t want to wake up to a beautiful inflorescence. The American Heart Association considers general gardening to be in the category of moderate-intensity physical activity. Get up and walk around during television commercials. Invest in a standing desk at the workplace. Every drop makes an ocean. So go clean your messy rooms, organize your wardrobe, sweep those floors, put the clothes out to dry, hear the cuckoo sing, catch up on your Mom’s gossip, experiment in the kitchen and watch your family turn into food critics, make life long memories with your siblings, call those long-forgotten friends, read something new, learn the unknown, reorganize, experiment, invent – EXPLORE THE NEW “YOU”. #diabetes #stroke #obesity #workplace #walk #cholesterol #fixing #smoking #Sittingdisease #alarm SEARCH Countdown To History: Omega Unveils Paris 2024 Olympics Countdown Clock And Special Edition Timepiece LIFESTYLE Juggling Law And Fashion: The Inspirational Journey Of Riddhi Nahata, A Multifaceted Influencer LIFESTYLE Join Shruti Yogi On Her Enchanting Journey From Kumkum Bhagya To Wanderlust Saga LIFESTYLE Personal Growth And Relatability: Ishita Khanna's Key To Influencer Success LIFESTYLE 6 Disadvantages Of Being Pretty LIFESTYLE POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement By Shrinivas Kodape Fast Times In Pune: Tracksuits, Dreams And A Dash Of Madness At Sports Con 2025 29 April 2025 LIFESTYLE By Aarti Singh The Audi A6: A Legacy Born From Rebellion And Refined Through Innovation 1 March 2025 LIFESTYLE By Sakshi Batra Glam Extravaganza 2025: Pune And Mumbai’s Influencers Compete For The Ultimate Spotlight 27 February 2025 LIFESTYLE By Anushka Uniyal Ice, Speed And Records: Porsche Taycan GTS Drifts Into History 27 February 2025 LIFESTYLE RELATED POSTS Advertisement
