  • Raveena Mehta, The Rising Phoenix

Raveena Mehta, The Rising Phoenix By Naisargi Devdher Raveena Mehta, The Rising Phoenix 17 September 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement The beautiful and incredulous singer, Raveena Mehta talks about her journey of becoming a singer and the path of good mental health that can lead one there. This story comes from the very depth of Raveena Mehta's journey as an artist, especially with the Pandemic hitting the world hard. Speaking of which, she mentions, "When the pandemic hit, I lived in my home studio. I have a home set up where I record a lot of my music. I decided to get into a routine to make a cover everyday and worked on composing. This led me to release around 7 songs in 2020 which was a great feeling. It has been incredible to see the way India has digitized over the last two years, an immense amount of technological progress." Speaking of success, it's one of the most beautiful feelings in the entire world; when reality strikes an artist! It just glows over the body and the mind, when the artist makes it big in the industry. However, Raveena does not recollect any such moment where she realized she was going big, but continues to say, "I don't think there was ever such a moment where I realised I was going big, but when I was approached to demo with 'Casanova Acoustic', that felt pretty great! Reality striking was never a daunting thing, reality is also what you make of it and depends on how you are viewing your cup, hopefully always half full. I also believe maintaining a small inner circle is one of the most important things to remain grounded and level headed in a whirlwind of an industry." Raveena is not only successful nationally but recognised for her talent all over the globe, at film festivals and red carpets. Raveena exclaims gratefully, "For artists, it is always incredible to be able to see your work being recognised globally. I find it endearing when my Hindi songs are appreciated in Cannes. When I was there for the Film festival, it felt brilliant to know the music that comes from India is so sought after." Singing soulfully has always reached to the most interior bosom of a being and in doing so, Raveena Mehta has attained incredulous levels of success! "I define success with deriving happiness. I tend to keep myself and my headspace quite process oriented and so I find happiness in smaller, process driven moments. Of course, when I release a song and I can see that people appreciate the music, that most definitely also makes me feel successful. Success for me means earning respect and focusing on my happiness." When the appreciation of fans and people hits, the gaze is difficult to handle. The expectations, the build ups or the love is tedious and risky to respond to! Raveena truly respects all her listeners and fans, understanding that respecting them would earn her respect! "I truly respect all my listeners and fans. I feel blessed to know that people out there listen to and appreciate my music. I try to meet their expectations with my music. I truly feel like as an artist, you have to strike a balance between the things that want to be heard from you and the things you wish to create, remaining authentic and yourself. There’s a happy medium in there somewhere." When the audience speculate rumours, or show disrespect towards the art and the song, many artists feel undervalued. Everyone is entitled to their own tastes and opinions. To this day, in the world, the fear of a song being perceived incorrectly, is tremendous and has the capacity of wrecking one's mental health. Raveena, reflects on both, the expectations of people as well as one's mental health. "In my opinion, music is art and ultimately art is subjective and open to interpretation. To that point, I feel it becomes imperative to try to detach yourself from the work to an extent; so you can allow the work to grow and evolve wholeheartedly. I personally don't think I have ever felt too worried about a song being misinterpreted or misunderstood." Raveena also talks about how one's mental peace is key while working in a creative field. Creating can only be brought forward with a clear mind and peaceful environment. "Mental health is everything. I believe strongly in preserving one's mental sanctity, constantly focusing on self betterment and doing the things that make you the best version of yourself. These are definitely deliberate efforts and as for me, singing and drawing is therapeutic and it definitely helps me remain in touch with myself." Having said that, a lot of discipline is required from one's team as well. Every form of art, including a well produced album requires a strong and disciplined team. Raveena also comments on the same saying, "One annoying trait for me is tardiness, I generally find it annoying especially if it is concerning work for example in the form of a meeting. But hey, I also recognise that Mumbai traffic is also very hectic." Hectic schedules and a demanding creative field, on several instances, can also lead to mind blocks. Raveena adds, "If I ever have a mind block while i’m working, I tend to take some time for myself; I either go for a walk or do something that brings me a lot of peace. I try to disassociate any kind of pressure that is possibly creating a wall between my thoughts and inspiration." This global icon reinforced the importance of being true to herself while retaining the soul of her music and the integrity of her sound. However while acknowledging all of it, she remarked on a very beautiful note, "I find that sometimes in chasing trends, it is very easy to lose the soul of the music. In today's age with reels, tiktok and instant gratification which is equally as important to generating viewership, this can also be a double edged sword. While a lot of today's artists consider trends, it is also important to consider and retain the soul and integrity of your sound." While a lot of today's artists consider trends, it is also important to consider and retain the soul and integrity of your sound. #raveenamehta #singer #TujhseMilneKiAas #coverstory SEARCH A Journey Shaped By Courage, Creativity, And Social Media With Aditi Sharma COVER STORIES Inner Joy Trails My Inspiration : A Candid Conversation With The Creative Anushka Kaushik COVER STORIES Barkha Singh’s candid candour makes the way to an eye-catching interview COVER STORIES Educate, Empower, Excel: Priyanka Chahar Choudhary's Inspirational Overture COVER STORIES Waluscha De Sousa On Being Her ‘True Self’ And Going On The Dream Journey COVER STORIES POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement By Sakshi Shah Across Languages, One Voice: Sheena Chohan 1 April 2026 COVER STORIES By Sakshi Shah Mananveer Singh On Making Music That Feels Natural And Real 24 March 2026 COVER STORIES By Sakshi Shah Falak Khan On Acting, Identity, And Letting Her Work Speak For Itself 9 March 2026 COVER STORIES By Shriniwas Kodape Tej Music Vodka: The DJ Turning Youth Culture Into a Moving Dancefloor 30 January 2026 COVER STORIES RELATED POSTS Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement

  • Farhan Khan: Where Poetry Meets Hip-Hop, And Stories Come Alive

Farhan Khan: Where Poetry Meets Hip-Hop, And Stories Come Alive By Sakshi Batra Farhan Khan: Where Poetry Meets Hip-Hop, And Stories Come Alive 10 February 2025 COVER STORIES Advertisement “Main Toh Hoon Shayar, Bata Deta Baatein, Par Kambakht Woh Kaise Sambhalega” This isn’t just a line from Farhan Khan - it’s a glimpse into his soul. A poet who wears his heart on his sleeve, a rapper who turns life’s chaos into a rhythm, and an artist who tells stories with every verse, Farhan Khan isn’t your typical creative. He’s a force of nature, a whirlwind of emotions, ideas, and untamed passion. So, who is Farhan Khan? He’s not just a rapper, poet, or actor. He’s a storyteller who turns heartbreak into poetry, struggles into inspiration, and every experience into a masterpiece. This is the story of the man who refuses to be boxed in who lives to bring something extraordinary to the table every single time. A Life Beyond Boundaries Farhan's father, a ghazal writer and tailor, played a big role in shaping his journey. He also looks up to the legendary Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (Nusrat Sahab) for inspiration. While others tried to set limits for him, Farhan never believed in boundaries. For him, art is limitless, a space where he can explore anything, from love and spirituality to deep emotions, both good and bad. A Wall, A Dream, A Turning Point At the age of 16, Farhan made a declaration that changed everything. Scrawled on the wall of his room was a simple yet powerful promise: “I will come on TV & become an actor.” It wasn’t just graffiti; it was a vision. Farhan dove into the world of art and music, fuelled by his relentless desire to express himself. Though his family initially hesitated to support his unconventional dreams, they couldn’t ignore his passion. Farhan recalls his days working at his father’s tailoring shop, where he not only learned the value of hard work but also developed a business mindset that complements his artistic endeavours. The Birth Of “The Last Khan Sahab Show” Farhan’s debut album, “ The Last Khan Sahab Show” , is more than just music- it’s an entire world. Drawing inspiration from his father’s nickname, “Khan Sahab”, the album’s title pays homage to his roots and was appreciated by artists like Badshah and Raftaar . Farhan introduces the iconic Khan Sahab character as a one-time phenomenon, marking the end of its journey with a poignant farewell. Through the track “Rudali” , he performs the metaphorical last rites for the character, signalling the end of an era and paving the way for a fresh chapter with new stories and personas. The album then transitions to the song “Jannat”, where Farhan and a friend share a candid conversation about his love life, setting the stage for the unfolding tale of “Alif and Laila”. What truly sets this album apart is its immersive storytelling. Each song brings a character to life, every lyric unravels a narrative, and every beat pulls you deeper into Farhan’s creative universe. The Stories Behind The Songs Farhan’s albums don’t just feature tracks - they unfold like movies. One of his most intriguing storylines revolves around Alif & Laila, set against the backdrop of the 80s. Take the iconic Jawab de , a track that weaves a tale of heartbreak, longing, and redemption. Farhan’s alter-ego, Alif, questions his love, Laila, with raw, piercing words: “Woh Tujhe Chhoota Hai, Jaise Main Chhoota Tha Waise, Kya Uske Bhi Seene Pe Soti Ho, Zulfein Hatata Hai, Tere Chehre Se?” The album doesn’t just stop at heartbreak. It dives deeper into emotions, exploring betrayal, love, and self-reflection, followed by the most iconic “ Ajnabi.” “Ajnabi Sa Ye Ehsas Hai, Badnasibi Na Tu Sath Hai, Shah Ki Daulat Tu Hi Thi Sanam Ab, Bas Fakeeri Na Kuch Pas Hai” The narrative takes unexpected turns, from Alif’s heartfelt confessions to dramatic confrontations. In “Aankhon Ne Maara”, Laila realizes Alif’s love for her still burns strong, even as the world conspires against them. Farhan’s ability to create entire worlds within his music makes him stand apart in the industry. “For me, rap and poetry are ways to tell stories. They give me freedom and a unique perspective,” he explains. In Cigarette , Farhan masterfully uses the imagery of smoking as a metaphor for loneliness: “Ab toh bas hum dono hi hain, ek main aur ek meri cigarette.” This song, which took weeks to perfect, is Farhan’s personal favourite. It’s a hauntingly beautiful reminder of how art can turn pain into poetry. A Blend Of Old And New Farhan’s artistry is a kaleidoscope of influences. His father’s love for ghazals and the timeless magic of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan laid the foundation. Bollywood legends like Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan ignited his love for cinema, while the directory of Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Imtiaz Ali inspired him the most in his storytelling. But Farhan isn’t here to follow trends. “Doing what everyone else does would make me lose my essence,” he says. “I want to bring something new to the table every time.” Passion For Fashion Farhan has personally designed the outfits for his albums, drawing on his experience working in his father’s shop. With this background in tailoring and a keen eye for fashion, he has a natural flair for creating unique ensembles and dreams of designing outfits that reflect his artistic vision. This philosophy extends to his love for fashion. Farhan dreams of collaborating with brands like Raymond, Siyaram and Manyavar , bringing back the charm of kurta-pyjamas with a modern twist. His vision? To revive traditions and merge them with contemporary art forms. The Man Behind The Music Offstage, Farhan is a simple man with a love for good food and heartfelt cinema. His favourite dish? Nalli Nihari is famously known as the warrior’s food. But nothing beats his mother’s tomato gosht, a dish he cherishes deeply. Growing up, Farhan often skipped school to catch Bollywood movies at the nearest cinema. His favourite films, like Devdas and Black Mirror, reflect his love for grand storytelling. What’s Next? Farhan’s journey is far from over. He’s gearing up to expand the Alif Laila saga “I want each album to surprise people, to bring something they’ve never experienced before,” he says with excitement. With every project, Farhan Khan continues to blur the lines between music, poetry, and storytelling. His work is a celebration of art in all its forms, a testament to his belief that creativity knows no boundaries. The Legacy Of Farhan Khan Farhan Khan is not just an artist, he’s a phenomenon. From his heartfelt lyrics to his groundbreaking narratives, he’s redefining what it means to be creative in today’s world. As he continues to surprise us with his artistry, one thing is clear - Farhan Khan is here to leave an indelible mark, not just on the industry but on everyone who experiences his work. Because when Farhan speaks, writes, or raps, the world listens. And as he says, “Dilbar Ko Dur Nhi Karte, Dil Tod Kar Choor Nahi Karte, Sab Kehte Par Main Manta Nai, Tum Humko Bhool Nahi Sakte, Aise Majboor Nahi Karte” Indeed, the world may find it hard to handle the brilliance of Farhan Khan. Anticipating the birth of a new era and more of his extraordinary creations. • Sandeepa Dhar: On Being Versatile and Learning from Mistakes

Sandeepa Dhar: On Being Versatile and Learning from Mistakes by JoNa Sandeepa Dhar: On Being Versatile and Learning from Mistakes 11 December 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement Sandeepa Dhar from Kashmir made her debut into Bollywood with the movie Isi Life Mein in 2010, from then it has been an upward journey for her. She has starred in multiple hit movies and critically acclaimed web series such as Abhay and Mai: A Mother’s Rage. Dhar has been nominated for the Filmfare Best Debut Actress, Star Screen Award for Most Promising Newcomer – female and the Stardust Award for Superstar of Tomorrow – Female. She opens up to us about the challenges she faced in the industry, her learning experiences in the shooting spots, her co-stars and her philosophy when it comes to life and work. The Pandemic has taught her not to plan things far ahead, she’s more conscious of the changes in the Bollywood industry and is ready to take one step at a time. She’s not in a hurry to the top. It is the process that appeals to her. “ Personal growth as an actor and as an individual is the most important for me. I think that's where I see myself going, I see myself evolving, changing, getting better and better with time.” Sandeepa Dhar is working on a new project, meanwhile she spoke to us about working on the sets of Kaagaz with the legendary actors Salman Khan, Pankaj Tripathi and Director Satish Kaushik. She shares a special relationship with Salman Khan, as she had already worked with him; and Tripathi according to her, is ‘an amazing and smashing human being.’ She quoted an incident where Kaushik came to her with a song and told her that it was about women empowerment, and that he would never shoot an item song or show women in a poor light. ‘It was reassuring and refreshing to see him talk like that,’ she said. “It was a wonderful experience working on Kaagaz, I'm extremely lucky that I get to work with such an amazing set of creative minds who've been in the industry for a really long time, who are so experienced, and at the top of the game. Ihope I get to work with them over and over again. Fingers crossed.” When asked about her experience so far in Bollywood, Dhar said that it is like a rollercoaster ride, having it’s ups and downs. She is extremely grateful to have worked in diverse roles, with multiple stars and franchises like Netflix and Hotstar. She is also ready to fight for and hope for more bigger, stronger roles and recognition. Looking forward to many more exciting opportunities, Dhar remains optimistic. “ …I feel like I'm also very grateful, because I have got an opportunity to work with some amazing set of people from Salman to Sajid Nadiadwala to Tiger to Kriti and Rajshri. Even with the web, I have gotten the opportunity to work with some brilliantly talented people; platforms from Netflix to Hotstar, the best in the game. I think it's been an interesting journey and I'm only very excited to see where it goes henceforth. Because I don't know myself where it leads me to, I don’t know how much I'm going to grow and evolve. No matter what, I'm really, really looking forward to the opportunities that I get henceforth and to the choices that I make ahead.” Working with Atul Mongia for the web series Mai has been a dream come true for Sandeepa Dhar. The series was produced by Clean Slate Filmz owned by Anushka Sharma and Karnesh Sharma. It was a critical and commercial success, and it impacted her personally and professionally as well says Dhar. She goes on to talk about her views on personal development and how she focuses on being a better person and artist, never comparing herself to anyone but herself. She strongly believe in personal growth, and looks forward to being a better version of her self both on and off screen. ‘People who compare their lives to others’ are quite narrow minded, as everyone’s journey is different,’ she adds. “. I feel like anyway, with the kind of lifestyles that we all have, we all need to look inward and work on our own selves, that's the only way that we can keep a straight head in this crazy world. Because, social media and people can play with your head and I think at this point, the only thing that can save you is your own self and knowing who you are and working on it. I think for me that is what is the most important.” For a final question, we asked her about the obstacles she has faced and her journey so far. She replied that being an outsider had been her first obstacle; she knew no one in the industry and had to work hard to land roles, to reach the relevant people. Since she had no one to guide her during her earlier days, everything was of ‘trial and error,’ method for her. She had to learn from her mistakes, sometimes she erred three four times, before learning her lesson. She also spoke about the ‘perception’ that people have about actors, which stereotypes them and thereby denying them of certain roles. This fight against people’s perception of her is a constant battle she says. “In this industry, the stereotyping is immense to an extent it’s quite ridiculous in a way because isn't it stupid that as an actor, you're putting people in boxes, according to the way they look. But as an actor, I should mould myself physically and emotionally as per the character. That is my job, right? I'm supposed to play a different character irrespective of what I look like, but the industry forces you to only play roles, which kind of suffice to what you look like physically. So, if I am, for example, fair and modern and good looking then, according to them, I would only fit in roles wherein the character is rich and from an affluent family or speaks English. I am honestly quite fed up with people thinking like that. I think there is that obstacle that I'm constantly fighting hence, if you look at my filmography, I'm always playing roles wherein the character is quite the opposite of what I am in person.” We ended the interview with a positive vibe, with Sandeepa Dhar asking the audience and readers to look forward to her movies and series, not because she is in them but because they’re worth watching. We are indeed looking forward to your next project Sandeepa Dhar! Wishing you all luck and success! • Busting Christmas Myths!

SOCIETY by Akash Khatri Busting Christmas Myths! 1 December 2020 SOCIETY Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement Christ was born on December 25th The Bible neither gives a specific date nor even a month for the same. It’s highly unlikely that Jesus could have been born on December 25th. The Bible mentions shepherds with their cattle grazing I the field during Jesus’s birth but it’s extremely cold in December in Bethlehem and nothing grows there then. Most scholars agree that Jesus was born sometime near the end of September based on biblical clues. Xmas is sacrilegious Many Christians view the removing have “Christ” out of Christmas as a sacrilege and replacing it with an X. But if you notice the word “Christ” in greek is written as “Χριστός.”. Chi is also written as an X in the roman alphabet so hence it is not wrong either. Santa Claus or Father Christmas and St. Nicholas are synonyms Saint Nicholas of Myra, also known as Nicholas of Bari or Nicholas the WonderWorker, was an early Christian bishop of Greek descent from the maritime city of Myra in Asia Minor during the time of the Roman Empire. He performed many miracles attributed to his intercession. While Santa Claus is a legendary character originating in Western Christian culture who is said to bring gifts to the homes of well-behaved children on the night of Christmas Eve or during the early morning hours of Christmas Day. The little drummer boy There is no Biblical interpretation of any kind of a drummer boy playing the drum as loudly as possible to baby Jesus. Wishing “happy holidays” is wrong If taken literally the word holiday means ‘holy day’. Celebrating the birth of Jesus is certainly holy and saying happy holidays definitely isn’t taking “Christ out of Christmas.” Midnight Mass is at 0:0 The schedule is in fact quite flexible, some churches start the service at midnight while some start by 10 or 11 pm and end it by 12. Since 2009, the Pope has celebrated this Mass at 10:00 pm, and as a result, the official liturgical designation of these texts has been Mass during the Night since 2009. However, when the Mass does occur at midnight, it is still commonly called “Midnight Mass”. Christmas cards are a tradition It was a Victorian businessman who made the Christmas card an American tradition. People did not send Christmas cards before the idle of the 19th century. Boxing day People consider boxing day to be the day to box up all those presents you don’t want and return them to the shops. But actually, it began in the middle ages in the UK where churches would open their collection boxes and distribute money to the poor. The three wise men As per Matthew, “ magi” who are wise men not kings came from the east looking for the King of the Jews to Jerusalem bearing precious gifts for Jesus when he was born but it never mentions the number or names of the men. Also, the bible mentions Jesus being a young child not an infant at that time. Surprisingly there is no mention of Jesus sleeping in a manger in any of the religious literature. People assume it to be “three” in number because there is a mention of three gifts – gold, frankincense and myrrh. Christmas is the most important No, its easter which lasts about two months and commemorates the rising of Jesus from the dead into the eternal life. Easter is so sacred as it celebrates the resurrection of the son of god and triumphs over death. Jingle bells is a Christmas song Though it is now one of the most loved Christmas songs out there it wasn’t initially meant to be. Originally titled One Horse Open Sleigh, It was initially written in the 1850s for American thanksgiving by composer James Lord Pierpont who penned it for his Sunday school class. The lyrics were later modified to fit Christmas. • Neha Bhasin: ‘I want to take Indian music to the same global level as international artists like Michael Jackson, Beyonce’

Neha Bhasin: ‘I want to take Indian music to the same global level as international artists like Michael Jackson, Beyonce’ by Rupashree Ravi Neha Bhasin: ‘I want to take Indian music to the same global level as international artists like Michael Jackson, Beyonce’ 30 June 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement Singer and songwriter Neha Bhasin has carved a unique artistic identity over the years as a pop artist and folk musician in India. Known for her popular film songs ‘Kuch Khaas,’ ‘Dhunki’ as well as ‘Hum Naye Geet Sunaye’ from the girl group, Viva! she has established herself as a powerful vocalist and independent artist, who has broken many stereotypes of the music industry. In a recent interview, Bhasin shared details about her upcoming singles and collaborations, the struggles of being an independent artist, and her future goals. She also spoke about her biggest inspirations and what she wishes to achieve in the ever-changing industry. “I started my journey as an independent artist right after Viva! but I released my first album in 2010. I’ve been very fortunate to not just sustain myself but balance a great career between Bollywood music and also my own independent music. Of course, you need good music, funds, and the right support system. I believe what really matters is the connection you share with your audience and the music that you're producing while maintaining the consistency of the good stuff that you produce. It’s not easy, but consistency is the key,” she said. Bhasin shared with us that she enjoys a wide range of music genres. Since she was young, she always enjoyed listening to pop rock and classic rock bands like Aerosmith and Pink Floyd. Old school artists like Prince have influenced her musical career. She cites Michael Jackson as her biggest musical influence during the start of her career and Adele as her all-time favourite. “I love keeping myself updated with the world's music space. I listen to current dance genres and I’ve also recently warmed up to a lot of Sufi music. Many artists have inspired me like Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Queen, Aerosmith, and Bon Jovi. So many artists from Billy Joel to BTS have moved me. Among Indian artists, I would say Kishore da, Asha Ji, Lata Ji, Reshma Ji, Noor Jahan Ji are my favourites. Some current artists I love are Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Charlie Puth, and Sam Smith It's typical to put them in one word because I feel every great artist has a great impact on your life but I think the reason why I started loving music was Michael Jackson,” she shared. When asked if any album or single is in the works, she said, “Yes, I'm working on my next single. Singles, rather and some folk song originals. Once they're ready I would know which is the next one for release. I’m always working on new music.” On artists that she would love to collaborate with, she mentioned singer and composer Amaal Malik. She expressed her interest to collaborate with Punjabi artists and also shared that she is currently in talks with composers Yuvan Shankar Raja and Devi Sri Prasad from the south industry. She hopes that there will be some big stops coming this year with regard to international collaborations, although it is a bit far-fetched at the moment. As a public figure who has been a part of the industry for many years, Bhasin has been very vocal about social issues like sexism and body shaming and has taken part in a lot of campaigns. “I've had different sizes of bodies in the span of my career. At the very beginning, I was actively body-shamed by the people that I worked with. Body positivity is something I really believe in. It’s something I was very sensitive about because it really impacted my life. I suffered from body image issues and food disorders for a very long time. So, I understand the impact it has on a young person's mind. I hate the word ‘plus size.’ I feel like your body is a beautiful armour that God has given for your soul's residence. It should be appreciated and loved. I think it's my responsibility to put out the right message especially, being a victim of body shaming myself. Hence, I'm active about it,” she said. The award-winning singer shared that her biggest goal or mission as a musical artist is to produce great music that means something in the world. She shared, “The kind of music that I grew up listening to, that gave me goosebumps and changed my life, made me the artist I am today. I want to be the change that I want to see in the industry. My job is not to preach to people or to change them, but to live by example. That's what I'm doing and that's what I’ve always done. I hope to make my label bigger and have more resources to produce good music. As of now, I'm the only artist who’s in it. I'll be happy if we can get more artists in the future. My mission is to take Punjabi folk music global. I've kind of resurrected a dead genre and I want to make that bigger and better.” Her ultimate dream to achieve in the music industry is to live a legacy of great work and for people to remember her work as legendary music. She wants to take India to the same global level as international artists like Michael Jackson, Beyonce, and Madonna and have worldwide concerts with great production value. “Of course, my ultimate dream is to win a Grammy and release my English album, which is something that I’ve not done much about till now except for writing good music,” she added. • Lana Scolaro: Breaking Barriers In The Male-Dominated Music Industry

Lana Scolaro: Breaking Barriers In The Male-Dominated Music Industry by Anushka Sharma Lana Scolaro: Breaking Barriers In The Male-Dominated Music Industry 2 March 2023 COVER STORIES Advertisement Lana Scolaro, a rising star in the electronic music scene, has been breaking barriers in the male-dominated industry since she first stepped behind the decks. Hailing from Ibiza, the birthplace of electronic music, Lana's passion for music began at a young age. She played the cello and keyboard and was surrounded by DJs and music every summer. This exposure sparked her interest in pursuing a career as a DJ. In an industry where men dominate the scene, Lana faced some challenges as a female DJ. Some venues and people did not take her seriously due to her ultra-feminine style and look. However, Lana did not let this deter her from achieving her dreams. She persevered, constantly producing music, and releasing at least one song a month. She also participated in podcasts, interviews, and radio shows, always looking for new sounds to keep her relevant in the industry. As an artist, Lana has a unique vision that she balances with the demands of the music industry and her fans. Currently, she is incorporating her creative vision in the digital metaverse, where she has created her own dream house that is already in the NFT Oasis. This way, her music can be displayed, and fans can watch her in concert in the digital world. Lana is continuously evolving, and her creative vision is evident in her work. Throughout her career, Lana has been influenced by several artists, including Solomun, Santiago Garcia, Rami Bedouin, and Luciano, whom she watched perform in Ibiza. However, Gwen Stefani is the artist she looks up to the most. She adores Gwen Stefani's music, and she loves her style. Lana relates to the emotions that go into Gwen Stefani's songs and finds her inspiring. Apart from music, Lana loves painting and producing short animation projects. If not a DJ, she would have chosen to be an actress or a painter. When asked about her advice to aspiring female DJs, she encourages them to keep practicing and mixing on CDJs. She also advises them to put their music out on SoundCloud, YouTube, and every platform possible to be heard. Showcasing your music and getting feedback from fans is crucial to success. Touring and traveling can be challenging, but Lana manages to balance her personal and professional life with four phones. One of her most memorable performances was at the Texas Road to Nowhere Festival. It was her first time in Texas, and she was not supposed to play, but her good friend Chanel West Coast put her on stage and let her perform her single "Rick Ross." Lana envisions the future of the music industry as a digital metaverse, where people can watch her DJ in the virtual world. Her current and future projects include collaborating with brands in the fashion industry, producing a unique track with a male artist, and working on a new collection for her jewelry line LS Diamonds. With her drive, creativity, and passion for music, Lana Scolaro is sure to make waves in the industry and continue breaking barriers for female DJs. • Building Opportunities And Expanding Horizons: An Interview With Actor Or Writer Meghana Kaushik

Building Opportunities And Expanding Horizons: An Interview With Actor Or Writer Meghana Kaushik by Aadhya Venkatesh Building Opportunities And Expanding Horizons: An Interview With Actor Or Writer Meghana Kaushik 30 June 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement Meghana Kaushik is a multitalented actress and writer who aspires to do great work in the entertainment industry. Wishing to leave her mark, she thrives on the competition she faces. Meghana identifies the kind of work that she needs to do to justify her talent. "As an artist, your goals are clear to you", she says. While speaking about recognizing opportunities, she said that one must always be prepared for the golden opportunity, ready to strike it with complete determination when it does occur. Stemming from the need to create such 'golden opportunities' for herself and others, she began writing for the screen. "As a writer, I can tell stories and narratives that I, as an actor, would like to act in". Meghana also believes that writing stories that she believes in will allow her to talk about subjects that need to be voiced. Meghana comes from theatre and has trained with Barry John as she always believes in improving her craft. Her foray into acting has been a learning curve. Belonging to a family with no connection to the industry, she had to learn everything about the process from scratch. The downside to this is that she has been dropped from many projects because she is not well-connected or comparatively well-known. She hopes that she can eventually work with creators that "cast actors based on their talent instead of social media follower count". Wishing to travel the world with her career, she wants to stand out in her field. She sees herself on the world stage, winning internationally acclaimed awards for her work while simultaneously creating a space of recognition for Indian talent. Currently, she is working on two feature films, one of which she is co-writing. Her inspiration in the field ranges from Madhubala, Waheeda Rehman, Sridevi and Alia Bhatt in the Indian film industry to icons such as Audrey Hepburn, Meryl Streep, Amy Adams, Natalie Portman, and Emily Blunt, amongst others. One of the easiest roles Meghana has played to date has been Nikita from Love, Lust, and Confusion. She believes that the character helped bring out her alter-ego, a person who was free-spirited, fashionable and non-judgmental about life and choices. Meghana strives to be a leader in a world full of followers. She urges those around her to remain positive in their lives and not let our differences and flaws bring us down. She propagates empowerment through acceptance of personal flaws with flair and grace. "Set yourself small goals to start with, and love yourself first" is the mantra she wishes to share. In a message to the youth, she pushes them to take charge and pave the way for the world to become a better place. She champions everyone to use their energies to protect fundamental human rights and promotes education for all. "We always need to be mindful and dream big. It is pertinent that we do not get caught up in mediocrity". All Meghana wants is for people to get over being lazy and take charge of their own lives, ultimately initiating a change that starts at the individual level.
