From education and empowerment of people to environmental sustainability, Kshitij has been able to emerge as the epitome of social issues addressment. Some of the major events hosted by Kshitij addressing various social causes during the year 2023 are listed below. On the 31 st of August, 2023 , Mithibi Kshitij was seen conducting an uplifting gathering, ‘AASTHA: ACID ATTACK SURVIVORS: TRIUMPH OVER HEINOUS ACTS. ’ This event was hosted in honor of various courageous survivors of acid attack. The resolute valor of these people became a matter of praise and admiration by the witnesses of the event. It even showcased the emphasis of being united and being there for each other during a daunting scenario like those of acid attacks to strike an end to the discrimination and inequality against them, based not only on an individual basis but together as a country. This shall aid in nothing but marching towards a better country and a better world. - From Florence With Finesse: Malo’s Art Of Slow Luxury
From Florence With Finesse: Malo’s Art Of Slow Luxury By Ananya Patankar From Florence With Finesse: Malo’s Art Of Slow Luxury 26 July 2025 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement An exploration of Malo, where Italian heritage, handcrafted precision, and modern restraint converge to create timeless essentials. In an age of excess, only few brands manage to champion the elegance of restraint quite like Malo . Born in Florence in 1972, Malo didn’t rise with loud logos or trends, but with something far rarer: integrity. From the very first thread to the final touch, every piece is a quiet study in craftsmanship, history, and enduring design. Malo isn’t fashion that shouts; it’s fashion that stays. At the heart of Malo is a love for materials. Their signature cashmere is sourced from the high plains of Mongolia and refined through intricate, slow processes spun, dyed, and knitted entirely in Italy. Some garments take up to 18 hours to produce, shaped lovingly by artisans who treat each piece like a canvas. The result? Clothing that feels less like seasonal style and more like a second skin. This is “slow luxury” at its most essential. Malo doesn’t believe in disposability. With initiatives like Re-Cashmere and Malo Forever, the brand offers repair and regeneration services, turning even the oldest garment into something cherished again. Sustainability here isn’t a trend, it’s embedded in the brand’s DNA, long before it became a buzzword. Malo’s aesthetic, too, is a meditation in minimalism. Soft, neutral tones, powdered sand, foggy greys, and creamy whites replace theatrics with tenderness. Clean silhouettes are favoured over embellishment. This is the uniform of those who don’t need to prove elegance; they live it. Yet despite its deep Italian roots, Malo speaks a global language. From Tokyo to New York, its pieces move with grace across time zones, climates, and wardrobes. You’ll find its loyalists not by their volume but by the way they wear texture like a signature. To wear Malo is to understand that luxury isn’t about ownership; it’s about experience, a tactile memory that grows richer with time. The precision of the knit, the purity of the fabric, the soul of the maker all live within each piece. In a culture of fleeting fashion, Malo invites us to pause. To value what is well-made, well-lived, and well-loved. It’s not just cashmere, it’s heritage spun into every thread. Malo is more than clothing. It is the promise of timelessness, stitched gently into today. - The Eternal Strings Of Amaan & Ayaan Ali Bangash
The Eternal Strings Of Amaan & Ayaan Ali Bangash By Shriniwas Kodape The Eternal Strings Of Amaan & Ayaan Ali Bangash 4 October 2025 COVER STORIES Advertisement The concert hall is full, yet hushed, as though the audience is holding its collective breath. Two sarods lie across two laps, polished surfaces glowing under the stage lights. Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash sit side by side, their postures mirrored, their eyes meeting for just a fraction of a second. Nothing is said, but everything is understood. Amaan’s fingers strike the first note, bold and deliberate. Ayaan follows, answering with a softer resonance, his strings almost whispering in contrast. In that instant, the music is born not from one instrument, but from two souls in conversation. This is the essence of the Bangash brothers: a dialogue woven in sound, steeped in tradition, but alive with the intimacy of siblinghood. They were born into music. Sons of the legendary Ustad Amjad Ali Khan , the sarod was never a foreign object in their childhood home; it was as common as the dining table, as natural as the morning sun. Their earliest memories are not of playgrounds but of ragas drifting through the air as their father practiced. Where most children are lulled to sleep by lullabies, Amaan and Ayaan were cradled by alaps. Theirs was not simply an education in music; it was an immersion, a way of life. Yet being heirs to such a towering legacy was never easy. “Growing up, people assumed music would be automatic for us,” Amaan recalls. “But the truth is, it demanded discipline, hours of practice, endless corrections, the constant reminder that the sarod isn’t just an instrument, it’s a responsibility.” Ayaan adds more quietly, “It was never enough to imitate. Our father always told us to find our own voice.” And find it they did. On stage, their differences are striking. Amaan’s playing has a force that feels almost impatient; his notes cut through air like a storm breaking. Ayaan, meanwhile, shapes his sound with delicacy, coaxing tenderness from steel strings. Together, the tension between them becomes magic. It is fire and water, provocation and reconciliation, push and pull. At times, they sound like they are arguing; at others, like they are laughing together. The audience is simply invited to witness. But their journey has never been about replication. The Bangash brothers have pushed the sarod into unexpected spaces, collaborating with Western orchestras, jazz ensembles, and global musicians. Their projects blend centuries-old ragas with contemporary arrangements, without ever losing the core of Hindustani classical music. “For us, collaboration is not compromise,” Ayaan explains. “It's a conversation. Every genre has something to say, and we bring our sarods to listen and respond.” Despite their ventures into fusion, the soul of their music remains deeply traditional. They speak of ragas as though they are living beings. “Each raga has its own temperament, its own mood,” Amaan says. “Some demand patience, others erupt quickly. Our job is to reveal them, not control them.” It’s this reverence for the art form that grounds them, even as they innovate. What makes their story human is not just the music, but the bond between them. Offstage, they are brothers in every sense; sometimes clashing, sometimes teasing, always circling back to affection. Their dynamic fuels their art. Amaan admits with a grin, “We argue a lot about tempo, phrasing, everything. But when the performance starts, all that tension turns into energy.” Ayaan nods, “That’s the beauty of playing with family. The disagreements don’t divide you; they deepen the music.” Audiences around the world have felt that depth. Whether in an intimate baithak in Delhi or a grand concert hall in Europe, the Bangash brothers carry the same presence: music that demands surrender. In an era obsessed with speed and spectacle, their performances slow time down. Listeners lean in, pulled into a soundscape where centuries of tradition meet the immediacy of now. And perhaps that is their greatest gift. They are not simply performers; they are bridges between father and future, between East and West, between the sanctity of inheritance and the necessity of reinvention. Their sarods remind us that heritage is not static, but breathing. Each note is proof that memory and modernity can coexist without conflict. The final stroke fades, and silence fills the hall. But it is not an empty silence. It vibrates, alive with resonance, as though the music still lingers, refusing to let go. That is the world of Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash where strings are not just strings, but storytellers, carrying forward a legacy while writing their own. - Mannat Singh, the story of an aspiring actress
Mannat Singh, the story of an aspiring actress by Aparajita Jaiswal Mannat Singh, the story of an aspiring actress 28 September 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement Mannat Singh is not just a successful model but also an aspiring actress and found a passion for acting through pure serendipity. A young, goofy, introvert whose life changed when she entered the world of modeling through Miss India, moving out of her shell. "I thought that there's so much more that I could do and I'm not just this shy person. I can go out there in the world and try to have big dreams and I can achieve whatever I want if I put my mind to it," Mannat goes on tell us "I am really glad that I took that scary step of coming to a different city from a town where everything was my comfort alongside my my family. Taking that leap of faith, coming here and working for my dreams every day, I feel like that is commendable and that is the reason that I do this. I want to be an actor and I love what I do. I love where my life is going to go and the direction that I'm on. And that's all that I've got." Mannat Singh expresses how as an actor she wishes to bring the character to life and also be true to the character she is playing. As an actor you're always striving and being fearless enough to take chances. "The whole point acting us to bring the character to life. Everybody has a process which is very different and it's a very subjective thing. It differs from person to person, actor to actor. So I don't think there's a set way of performing this art but I feel it depends on the person and the actor." There are several stages of being an actor in a show or a film. There are certain thrilling aspects and there are certain parts where hard work and focus is key. Mannat comments on the same, "I feel that I embrace and enjoy the whole process. From getting the script and reading the script, understanding the writer's point of view to actually bringing the character to life and adding my own personal touch, the whole process is extremely thrilling to me. When you're auditioning and you're going about the scene and performing in front of people, I feel like there comes a point for me where I'm knee deep into the character that I start improvising. So, when I'm improvising, I am really getting under the skin of the character and it's just coming really naturally to me. That is the point where I know that I can do this. That particular point is very exciting and thrilling for me." "Not having explored many genres yet, I would be really excited to do a thriller or mystery film or show but the most difficult genre to perform, in my opinion, is comedy, because I feel like if you can make the audience laugh and you know it all comes with ease to you, is the most difficult thing to do. If ever got a chance, I'm sure that I'll have to work really hard. As a person, I believe I'm funny and have a good sense of humor but while performing a comedic role, I believe it will be one of the most difficult things to do but I’d still like to explore that." Having asked what present day mega director inspires her and she would like to be directed by, Mannat answers with a slight glow in her eye as she talks about her inspiration, "The filmmaker that inspires me the most and that I would love to work with in the future is Sanjay Leela Bhansali as I have just really liked his work since I was a little child. I've been watching him since Devdas and then I absolutely loved guzaarish and Ram Leela, eventually all the series that he's made, all the great films that he's made till date. I like his process, the way that he makes his characters a certain way, the whole direction process and it's just very thrilling to the eye from an audience's point of view. I would like to be directed by him." Mannat believes that as an actor we must pursue and the amount of effort and work one puts in their art will always prove fruitful. As an actor, with all hardships one faces, one must always keep going and pushing their boundaries without a shadow of doubt. She speaks about her father who is a motivational speaker, she says he always said, "Mannat you will be really glad if you give it your all, if you have tried really hard as you’ll never have regrets. Don't give up. This is my dream and this is what I want to work for. That's stuck with me and that's what I tell myself. Even on days when I'm feeling low, I don't get up and I'm not able to do what I want to but there are days that you have to pick yourself up and remind yourself of the purpose that you have aspired to achieve." The filmmaker that inspires me the most and that I would love to work with in the future is Sanjay Leela Bhansali as I have just really liked his work since I was a little child. - Ramandeep Kaur, Charmingly Dauntless
Ramandeep Kaur, Charmingly Dauntless by Aparajita Jaiswal Ramandeep Kaur, Charmingly Dauntless 23 September 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement It is always natural to feel extremely proud of the new self created out of the previous portions of ourselves! One such person with extreme sense of pride stands to be Ramandeep Kaur! Being a part of the Punjabi industry makes you extremely filled with energy in spite of the obstacles. Speaking of which, the gracious actor talks about her journey, mentioning, "I began as a manager in a salon and opportunities were presented naturally, quite willingly by others and situations supported those opportunities and I was fortunate enough to take advantage. It has been a passion of mine, all my life." Talking of obstacles, one doesn’t always get what she/he wants. "I prefer to perceive rejections as challenges, motivating me to do better," the actress says, gracefully. The very thought of making it huge in spite of rejections, hypes one up. In a creative field such as acting, it is a regular roller coaster where every artist goes through rejections and fame. The journey of fame deals with the public eye and staying grounded is very important. Ramandeep comments when asked how she deals with fame, "I stay humble." The very essence of the Punjabi film industry and the anticipation of where it is leading excites the audience. "I feel the Punjabi industry is on the way up, it is getting more worldwide exposure and I am excited to be a part of it," says the actress. Speaking of the industry, the reader often gets mesmerised by what they observe on social media. When asked about the trends that she rejoices in, her confidence peaked as she exclaimed, "I am the trend on social media." Ramandeep Kaur expresses her inspiration to be the humble blockbuster star, Diljit Dosanjh. While getting inspired in all ways, Ramandeep comments on her love for fashion. "I love fashion and I follow all trends to ensure I am always on top of it." Fashion brings in a lot of stereotypes attached to it as interpreted by society, majorly associated with body shaming and fitness. However, being an actress it's perceived differently, "I understand that the world is becoming diverse and is allowing people of all shapes and sizes to share the spotlight. However, I myself attend the gym regularly to maintain my figure." To stay on top, in both, one's professional and personal life, is a big deal. Thus to mark the lines between reel and real life for an actor is even more tough! "I stay in character on set and on only on set, I never take my character home with me. My personal life is a completely separate entity from my work." This actually is difficult to fathom for the readers as the work she engages in all seem so perfectly put, however, that is what would also make a rising beauty, like her, such a great actress! "My work does not affect my personal life as I try to be professional to all extents, taking my personal life seriously and looking after it as closely as I do for my career." As the audience looks forward to her engaging them in more of her films, it is also interesting to have a glance at her perspective. The career of every actor brings her to different roles and it is quite obvious to be biased to one or having regrets in having played a certain character. However, for Ramandeep, there are no regrets in the roles she has enacted. "I am proud of all the characters I have had the opportunity to play." My work does not affect my personal life as I am a professional and take my career very seriously! From getting termed as an outsider to being recognised as a ‘Pageant’ the journey is filled with boundaries that need to be crossed over, these takes her through variety of experiences. “Experiences are not just to be categorized as really exuberating or bitter to face. I don’t actually take all of it very personally overloading it on my bosom, as it depends on how audience perceives a woman’s aura and character to be. Anyways, it’s now that I fathom the truth in various manners. Being a fresher, the experiences, however, were horridly cold as only response to inquiries made was meeting up people from various groups on being suggested to running doors for work. That’s the major difference today when I have work no one actually suggests meeting up rather they just walk up to my door with work in hand!” From engaging in moves to modelling for path breaking magazines and finally grooving the media for her very particular sense of fashion, she has blazed all the roles. Being a woman there are several words said directly or non-verbal language indicated to showcase certain level of discrimination, all of which are setbacks for an artist and that woman in particular. To which she simply smirked and nodded, continuing to express, “Being completely honest not just being a woman but a self-born star in this industries, I have faced several such questions and allegations that made me lose self-esteem and majorly I wanted to quit the industry. It was then when I realised that whatever field it be, the domination of pre-existing groups is extremely common. Then why should I digress from a field that I am already excelling in because certain mass number that doesn’t want to alter their perceptions! So I decide to move on with it.” Laughing over all of the jokes she gracefully said, “Knowledge is the key to every action of your life. Thus education is must.” In continuation she added, “I perused Master of Arts in Psychology, giving me liberty to understand people around observing artists around simply driving the motivating force within to act and become a model. There were no definite plans; it was just that I finally found what I am born for!!” The firm belief that she has in evolution of ideas from childhood to adulthood simplifies life when she exclaims, “It’s not necessary that all that we aspire to become as a child falls in our way like flowers in the path of Buddha! Those aspirations are going to change and we should welcome all our might because we do it for our personal profits!!!” Finding this thought queer and willing to converse about the numerous shifts it always wonderful to exaggerate the way she simply juggles between work life and personal life. To comment on which she put across the thought, “When I am active with my closed ones, I have the ability to survive a sinking ship. If one isn’t active in her personal life then how will she be active in her professional life? That’s the basic necessity to kick-off a career in an industry like ours. If one doesn’t have brain power then the other aspects just seem foggier than snow ranged mountains leading to vision and thoughts of self that aren’t visible clearly to people, they start despising you completely ending up in a cycle of regrets!” Mentioning about family, the society at large agrees that, nepotism to say has a magnanimous role in the industry. Soniya on the other hand, stands staunch in the industry today, neither has she had any Godfathers in the industry nor does she have any family member reaching the industry. In these circumstances in her accordance, there is always a need to have someone surrounding a fresher to support. The need arises from the past events of her life. She never had anyone to guide her way through to what acts to perform or work to look for, she had no option other than to work however talking about this day she knows the alternatives with all ends due to the life events, mistakes as well the success that she has achieved. Thus reinforcing, “The industry of films and theatre is an extremely difficult one to survive in!” However, only a fighter can survive through when one keeps struggling even when she has projects in hand because the fate can never be trusted, she might end up with zero projects one morning unknown of where to begin from or sometimes just clueless of audience’s approval of the work performed. The audience, however is a judge to everything, they also are variable deciders of schemas of body images that an industry portrays. Soniya, a fitness enthusiast elaborated on complete essence of work outs. “Due to work loads and several shifts, I do skip gyms for a day or certainly for a week if nothing progresses well, however, the moment I resume the sessions of muscle enhancers, I assure myself of stretching my limits to the farthest extent possible to cover up what I missed out on. This is also what makes me mentally fit as I am not worried about my health or overcoming injuries in general. As they say ‘A FIT BODY TRACES A FIT MIND’!! However, there is no assumed connection of body image and acting skills. For me at least, any person can act without having to worry about people body shaming him. That’s exactly what makes differences in tackling the negative outburst of audience. I believe in tackling such negative outbursts on meeting the critic rather than just a distinct criticiser who I probably would never even meet because that man sitting in some random corner of another city has no clue regarding my life. Particularly that is why for me, fashion is something that is classic and unique to me but also at the same time comfortable for me rather than revealing attire wore to impress the audience largely.” The simplicity with which she spoke about all of it is very similar to the simplicity with which she enacts a character. These characters have different underlying psyche, to acquire a role of those, she never utilises any substance that might justify the character however impact her negatively. Thus for her all roes hold equal importance and never does she take back the role with her. This congruence of her with the work life makes the reader flabbergast over so much about her choices and inspirations. “For me one actor I admire the most and always will is Shah Rukh Khan .” One might imagine what she carries along since childhood if she admires the legend Badshah since 90s’. No eye tear can be as magical as her innocent and honest words when she narrates, “I remember my dad explain me ‘BE WHOEVER YOU WISH TO, BUT NEVER LIE OR HURT ANYONE IN THE PROCESS OF BECOMING WHOEVER!!” Being humane none can resist but ask her to inspire youth being a role model not only because of her work and performances but also because of her intellect and temperament. “You know the youth needs to understand that Deepika Padukone has done critically acclaimed films to reach a state of worthiness and so has Ranveer Singh . He goes bare clothes for a shoot doesn’t actually mean the follower too should for gaining fame. That’s not how it works. Walk and act according to the situation. That makes them what they are. It will be the same for you too!” “EVEN DISNEY CAN’T RESIST THE CHARM OF FLOWER. HOW COULD ANYONE RESIST SONIYA’s SPRING!” SEARCH A Journey Shaped By Courage, Creativity, And Social Media With Aditi Sharma COVER STORIES Inner Joy Trails My Inspiration : A Candid Conversation With The Creative Anushka Kaushik COVER STORIES Barkha Singh’s candid candour makes the way to an eye-catching interview COVER STORIES Educate, Empower, Excel: Priyanka Chahar Choudhary's Inspirational Overture COVER STORIES Waluscha De Sousa On Being Her ‘True Self’ And Going On The Dream Journey COVER STORIES POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement By Shriniwas Kodape The Eternal Strings Of Amaan & Ayaan Ali Bangash 4 October 2025 COVER STORIES By Anurag Sen Vivian Dsena: The Fluke Star Who Became Television’s Undying Heartthrob 25 September 2025 COVER STORIES By Ananya Patankar Unscripted, Unstoppable: The Many Lives Of Christine Gulasatree 22 August 2025 COVER STORIES By Ananya Patankar Off Script, On Truth: Anshumaan Pushkar In His Own Words 30 June 2025 COVER STORIES RELATED POSTS Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement
- Kaveri Priyam On Making Her Childhood Dream Come True
Kaveri Priyam On Making Her Childhood Dream Come True by Anushka Sharma Kaveri Priyam On Making Her Childhood Dream Come True 13 March 2023 COVER STORIES Advertisement In a candid interview, Kaveri Priyam tells us that she had absolutely no idea about how to start working in the industry! All she was clear about was getting herself enrolled in an acting institute and continuing her theatres. Afterwards, she came to know about the auditions happening in Aram nagar and without the knowledge of the do’s and don’ts, she simply started giving them! Slowly, she started learning the various things about the industry and as it was a long process, she had the opportunity of experiencing the ups and downs, the rights and wrongs and helping herself when needed which further helped her to sustain in the industry. Kaveri says that it’s all those initial years which are helping her to support herself till date. She tells us that her experience was very good apart from the times when casting directors asked for money or when they tell you that you are not the appropriate shape or size or colour for this industry. She said that for some time she even took these comments on herself and tried to work in accordance with them but eventually she realised what was good for her and what was not. Kaveri says, “Working in the industry has always been very fun. Touchwood, I have been very lucky because I got the opportunity to work with very lovely people who never made me feel that I was a newcomer in the beginning.” As a child, she always wanted to become an actor. She says she was a born drama queen and was always a part of extracurricular activities. She says she has been lucky to have a good support system; good teachers who were very proactive and her mom, who got her enrolled in various classes. Straight after school, cycling daily to her Kathak classes was extremely hectic but she really enjoyed the part where she used to be on the stage. She used to act, direct, write stories and enact them with friends which unknowingly turned out to be street plays and attract a lot of crowd on the spot. She says that as a child you would think that you are just doing all this for your playtime fun but gradually she realised that she really liked doing all of it by heart. That’s when she decided to become an actor. Despite having a studious family and mindset she realised she didn’t really enjoy it all, and acting was actually what she truly wanted to do. The day she got rejected from one of the exams was her turning point. Thus, she started giving auditions, doing theatres in Delhi and finally she got selected for a show and came to Mumbai. The show didn’t work out well but it brought her to the place where she belonged! Talking about her upcoming projects she tells us, “I am super excited for my upcoming show which is going to air on Sony Sab very soon. The name is ‘Dil diyan Gallan’ and as the name suggests, it’s Punjab based story. So I am looking forward to it, playing a new character, getting into someone else’s shoes. I am super excited for it and also for my new music video which is going to be released soon.” Kaveri speaks about what she loves the most about acting and she said, “I love the way it takes you to different places, makes you meet a lot of different people and the way it helps you grow as a person and an artist. When you work with amazing people from different walks of life, you get to know more about life in general, about different people who exist in the society and with each character you get to be in someone else’s shoes. I believe an actor is someone who can live a thousand lives, which is something really attractive and I literally live to do this. I live to live different characters, different lives, visit new places, locations and meet new people and work with amazing directors and producers. So yes, that is what I feel life is, it should be exciting every day.” We asked her where does she see herself in the next 5 years in this ever-changing entertainment industry and she answered, “I know that this industry is ever-changing and I think nothing is permanent and change is the essence of life so I do not fear change, all I expect from myself is that I adapt to the change, adjust and keep entertaining people. In the coming 5 years I see myself as someone who knows all the tricks and trades of my field and then maybe later I can decide on what sort of work I want to do in the industry. I want to progress, that’s for sure.” Apart from being the character, she thinks, to look like the character is a challenging job. If the character is plumpy, extremely thin or ranky, it is something which takes a toll on your health because there is a limited amount of time in which an actor has to look a certain way and if not followed under proper guidance, it might hamper your health. She says that it’s not particularly tough but extremely challenging, and especially for her as she is a big foodie. But, as of now she hasn’t got the chance to completely transform herself and she does look forward to doing such roles in the future. Kaveri speaks candidly about the pressure in her work and what she does to tackle it, to which she simply said that she, personally, never really had to deal with any such thing. “If you enjoy doing something and can feel that it is meant for you then, that’s it. There is pressure in every other sector and I think that it is a part of work and it should be taken lightly. There is this constant thought that should be there in your mind that you are getting to do what you always wanted to, and so, it is a blessing. There are certain schedules you have to adjust yourself in but that is the fun and challenging part of it which makes it exciting.” About her journey and the obstacles, she tells us that, “Wherever I went to take acting classes, I was always told that I am gifted, which I didn’t understand at that time, but, slowly I got to know that some things are actually there within me but they need to be polished. To convert the talent into skills, the theatres and acting classes helped a lot. Talking about the journey, initially it was tough as you are exploring new things but once you cross that phase, get a break, get appreciated, gain the confidence then things become a little easier. Although competition is there, you have to be determined, focused, keep working on your craft and that is how one succeeds in any field. It has not exactly been a roller coaster ride but, I had my own challenges which I overcame. One of the challenges was that I was overweight for this industry but I decided I wanted to look good on camera and I made that transformation for my first show, from being a very plumpy to a very thin and lean girl. I won't call it an obstacle, but just a part of the job.” For our readers who may not be as familiar with her line of work, she says, “ Be it any industry, there are all sorts of people so, telling someone that this or that industry is not good, is baseless. Meeting, approaching and having the right circle of people around you is very important to achieve anything in life because there has got to be someone who shows you the path and the right direction. Maybe you will find it on your own or someone from your near and dear ones will guide you, but that direction is very important otherwise you might just be all over the place.” Be it any industry, move forward, stay focused, go in the right direction and make sure you meet the right people. - Cloud Kitchens are the new buzz
by Rupashree Ravi Cloud Kitchens are the new buzz 14 August 2022 FOOD Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement The future of cloud kitchens looks promising and brighter than ever. In the last two decades, we have seen people dining out more often for a change from home-cooked meals. But in recent times, there’s been a gradual shift to ordering food at home and an increase in take-out options. Moreover, the Covid-19 pandemic changed the complete economics of food and restaurant businesses. While dine-in trends will continue to exist, the industry is focusing a lot more on food deliveries. With just three ingredients – a great menu, a kitchen space, and smart packaging, you can create and run a successful cloud kitchen. Its simplicity and low-cost model have pushed hundreds of people over the last two years to jump onto the bandwagon. The domestic cloud kitchens market is expected to grow from $400 million in 2019 to $2 billion by 2024. Cloud kitchens are leading from the front to bring about this change. But what exactly are cloud kitchens? Unlike brick-and-mortar restaurants, cloud kitchens don’t have a dine-in facility. They take orders via apps, in-house or through delivery partners like Swiggy and Zomato and operate single or multiple food brands. A booming cloud kitchen in Delhi The perfect recipe to run a successful cloud kitchen is by selling an amazing food product. Cloud kitchens are popular because of the food they offer. Unlike a restaurant with a great dining experience where people go for the service and ambience, a cloud kitchen’s only value is its food. So, the food on the menu is the most important ingredient of a cloud kitchen, and not working on the product well enough and creating a good menu will most certainly not work. Cloud kitchen owners should work on their food to make it stand out. They should master the recipe and find a niche over their competitors. Cloud kitchen rely on their delivery and take-out format For cloud kitchens to be able to sustain, they need to keep their costs low. They must be careful not to spend too much money on packaging. The cost of packaging for cloud kitchens should not be more than 5 per cent of total expenses. Kitchen experts suggest that the cost of goods sold should ideally be around 25 per cent of total costs. Although food packaging is one of the most important parts of a cloud kitchen, one has to ensure that the packaging ensures safe travel of the food from the kitchen to the consumer, while also offering hygiene and taste. Packaging is also a great way to market your cloud kitchen The biggest mistake that cloud kitchens do is operating 6-7 brands from one location. When there are 10 different cuisines in one kitchen, the manpower has to be trained specifically. The equipment used for one cuisine might not work for the other. That’s why a lot of cloud kitchens have a problem making money. Being particular about locations can be a bad decision as Profitable cloud kitchens can flourish even in tier 2 cities more than in fancy urban hubs. So, what’s fuelling this growth in cloud kitchens? In India, a person on an average orders 6-7 meals per month at home, which is far lower than the global average of 16 orders a month. Hence, the scope to expand this segment is huge and it is important that those looking to start a successful venture or business capitalise on this opportunity.
