  • Tasting the sunny side of Christmas: Christmas Cocktails

by Aishwarya Tasting the sunny side of Christmas: Christmas Cocktails 2 November 2022 FOOD Advertisement Advertisement It's that time of the year again! With Christmas just over our heads, you might think of the cocktail options to serve your guest. No Christmas party is complete without the classic cocktails. So, here are some of the classic yet yummy cocktails, you can try this Christmas. We also have some non-alcoholic options for the non-drinkers! Eggnog: It is a creamy, sweet, and classic addition to your cocktails recipes, and can be consumed with or without alcohol. It originates from medieval Britain’s “posset”, a milky drink used to toast. The American colonies adopted this drink in the 1700s, using rum as the alcoholic base. Since milk and egg were available widely, it was an affordable drink option to go with. Well, why does it have this weird name? It is said to have derived from the word “noggin”, which was a wooden cup, and “grog”, a strong beer. Hot Buttered Rum: It is tracked back to Europe in the 1600s when sailors consumed hot and spicy drinks to fight off the cold weather. Then England captured Jamaica in 1655 when rum became a much-preferred option than brandy. The Hot Buttered Rum consists of alcohol, sugar or honey, boiling water, spices, and a thick layer of butter. Sounds weird, but you should give it a try for sure! Candy Cane Martini: This drink is a mix of all the best flavours and colours that are appropriate for the season. Candy Cane Martini is a mix of vanilla vodka, creme de cacao, and peppermint schnapps topped with a candy cane. It looks and tastes, just like the Christmas season. The origin of the Candy Cane Martini is still unknown, but the classic martini is said to have originated during the Gold Rush, when a bartender named Martinez ran out of champagne and hence mixed what he had, in short, our today’s cocktail was born that day. Tom & Jerry: A drink that is just as fun and weird as the cartoon. Tom & Jerry is a creamy drink similar to Eggnog but is served warm. It is believed to have been created by British sports journalist Pierce Egan and has become a winter staple today. It is just warm milk, but with steroids. Kidding, it is warm milk mixed with shots of brandy and rum. Even today many bars mix up batches of warm milk for the chilly winter night. Non-alcoholic Thanksgiving Punch: Even though the name suggests Thanksgiving, drinks are best served when you like having one. So, the Thanksgiving punch is great for Christmas too, as it has notes of cinnamon and orange that give the perfect cosiness for the winter. It consists of apple cider, sparkling blood orange juice, and sparkling grape juice with a dash of fresh orange and cranberry. A splash of rum, reposado tequila, or Anejo tequila is all you need, to transform this mocktail into a cocktail. Festivals are the season to celebrate, and the celebration gets even better with a tasty drink. Do try these cocktails this Christmas, and enjoy sipping on life forever. • Why is being Real underrated?

by Aparajita Jaiswal Why is being Real underrated? 16 July 2021 SOCIETY Advertisement Advertisement Contemporary times arranged our lives and turned it to be a lot easier, organised and captivated. Many of us have an impeccable life in real life but people leading a different life are expected to always look good on parade which intentionally leads to deceiving their own conscience. Having an engaged and often organised life is charming, in today’s times. Nevertheless, all of us can’t possess the same thing. Neither we need to be pretentious of the reality, we are trying really hard to settle in. Every day when we wake up, we have a gruelling fight to win. Life throws uncountable targets on us either professional, emotional, or may be related to our family or relationships. And the majority of us work hard with both our body and soul to accomplish those targets. At times our own high standards become unreachable. Yet every day teaches us a lesson. Wise men learn, move on and never look back because we are neither competing with others nor are we a part of any race, organised by the society, being its Jury. Remember! When babies are born, they are born with their own blessings and short-comings. And since then, we have been building a life of our own. We succeed, we fail, we learn, we let go but we grow because There are no failures, only outcomes, as long as I learn Something, I am succeeding. We all encounter many hassles in life with respect to mental and physical health, appearances, standards of living, comparative status or more but at the very least we should cherish that we are learning and succeeding. A long life is awaited… Start your journey with the hard work you expose. You shall reap what you ought to sow. Pull off the unreal mask you have on your face. Show to the world, true warriors are you, in the race.! It’s about time when individuals shall learn to embrace the scars they are born with or have earned in the journey to reach where they are right now. My two cents here, we should at the minimum spare a minute to understand the beauty of individuals we are moving along, of the people we vicariously live through and of the people we are inspired from. Potentially then we can see right through their perfect personality, the scars they are embracing to be Strong, Fierce, Smart, Gracious, Live, Empathetic and Charming. Every individual has built a historical personality from their lives which was inevitably arduous and exceptionally perfect. And, we are able to build an exceptionally impeccable life because we never underrated our reality of being perfect in our imperfections, strong in our failures, real in this very unreal underrated world. “Don’t look back to what others have, Build your own unique real self. Perfections are underrated, Impeccable is the journey you live in.” SEARCH Women Empowerment A mere concept or a real Concern SOCIETY Looking Through The Excellence Of ‘Jaali’ Architecture SOCIETY Why the Gender Pay Gap is Wide and Disturbing SOCIETY Festival of Stones SOCIETY The Pygmalion Effect SOCIETY POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement By Anushka Sharma Uniting Voices, Shaping Futures: Dive Into Mun 2.0 At NIT Patna 8 September 2024 SOCIETY By Anushka Sharma These Healthy Habits Can Lower Your Risk Of Depression 31 August 2024 SOCIETY By Rini Pathak A Glance In The Kshitij’23: A Euphoric Escapade 26 January 2024 SOCIETY By Rini Pathak Mithibai Kshitij: Epitome Of Diverse Social Cause Empowerment 24 January 2024 SOCIETY RELATED POSTS

  • An Uncontacted Island In India: North Sentinel Island

by Aishwarya An Uncontacted Island In India: North Sentinel Island 10 February 2023 TRAVEL Advertisement Advertisement In today’s modern world, we all look out for vacation destinations that are close to nature. Maldives and Mauritius are the two islands that will be there in your travel bucket list. What if we say that, there is an island that is banned for tourists? Well, if you were shocked knowing that, then let us take you through the most isolated island in the world; North Sentinel Island. North Sentinel Island is one of the Andaman Islands, located in the Bay of Bengal. It is the part of the Andaman Islands that is voluntarily isolated by its residential tribe. North Sentinel Island is home to the Sentinelese people, who are indigenous people in voluntary isolation. We all love our solitude, but Sentinelese loves their solitude way too much. They are considered to be the only uncontacted tribe in the world. The island is not known to many and the Government of India has also banned tourism over there. Under the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Protection of Aboriginal Act of 1956, people are prohibited to visit this island. The North Sentinel Island is protected and looked after by the Government of India. Many attempts to visit this island have resulted in violence. There isn’t much information about the island and the government has decided to let them be isolated only. In 2018, the Government of India excluded 29 islands- including North Sentinel- from the Restricted Area Permit region, in an effort of boosting tourism. In November, the government stated that the relaxation of the prohibition was to allow researchers and anthropologists, with pre-approved clearance, to visit North Sentinel. The anthropologists are fascinated by this island as the Sentinelese have not been studied much before. They are violent with the visitors and hence, we don’t even know the exact size of their population. The relaxation of the prohibition was done in the hopes of knowing them and their culture, but the result of it was something different. We humans always have an attraction toward the unknown, and hence, many people traveled to the island illegally. In 2006, the death of two fishermen, Sundar Raj and Pandit Tiwari was reported. It is said that their boats drifted too close to the North Sentinel Island and the Sentinelese attacked them. In a similar incident, an American Christian missionary, John Allen Chau was killed in the year 2018. The case of John Allen Chau took over the news pretty quickly. The 26-year-old, John, invaded the island illegally, with the motive of spreading Christianity. He went there to preach to them about Jesus and was killed by the Sentinelese on November 17th, 2018. The boatmen who took John over there reported that he saw the tribe dragging John’s dead body to the shore. In the same fashion, in 2006, when Sundar and Pandit were killed, they were buried on the shore of North Sentinel Island. The government authorities excavated one body, with great difficulty, and handed it over to his family. The body of John is, however, not found. The officials have opened a murder case but have not arrested anyone yet. John’s diary also reveals that he knew he would die and he has made a statement saying “don’t excavate my body”. One of the most notable events between outsiders and North Sentinel happened in 1981 when the Primrose cargo ship struck a nearby coral reef- north sentinel is covered with coral reef- shipwrecking sailors for nearly two weeks. The sailors were also attacked by the Sentinelese, and it is also known that they used the ship's debris to make metal tools. There have been more than 11 such violent cases that happened on North Sentinel Island. It is believed that they have their language, Sentinelese. It is an undescribed language and due to the lack of contact, nothing is known of their language and its vitality. After the incidents of violence, India ceased visits in 1997. The first peaceful contact with the Sentinelese was on 4th January 1991. Triloknath, a director of the Anthropological Survey of India, and his colleagues were the first ones to have peaceful contact with them. He also says that the contact didn’t bring much of the secrets out, because they weren’t allowing them to reach them. One more miraculous fact about North Sentinel Island is that it survived the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami. The Indian government sent some helicopters to see their situation and give them food, but the tribe attacked the helicopter and swayed off the government officials too. While the much-developed cities suffered due to the tsunami, the North Sentinel Island- covered by water on all sides- survived it. Maybe, that is the reason we say that nature protects us when we live with it in alignment. The Sentinelese tribe is known to be the last hunter and gatherer civilization to exist. The government has now banned any tourist visits, respecting their desire to be isolated. It is also said that they are not immune to the pathogens of modern society, which makes them prone to modern-day diseases. While we desire to explore every part of the earth, it is better to leave some of the places on their own; untouched, uncontacted and unknown. BLOB An island that remains uncontacted, unknown till the date. By Anushka Sharma The Journey And Insights Of A Celebrity Dental Specialist From Italy: Daniela Porcelli 16 August 2024 FASHION Advertisement Daniela has surely carved her way out in the field of dentistry and digital marketing. Graduating with the highest honors in Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics from the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Rome in 2008, our subject has carved a remarkable path in the field of dentistry. Daniela's academic journey was distinguished by the recognition as the best Curriculum of the Academic Year, a testament to her dedication and excellence. This marked the beginning of a career characterized by continuous learning and specialization. In 2010, she pursued advanced studies in Periodontology and Advanced Surgical Techniques at the prestigious Institut de Formation en Implantologie in Paris. Two years later, she achieved specialization in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with top marks from the "Sapienza" University of Rome. Her thirst for knowledge and commitment to excellence culminated in a Ph.D. in Dentistry from the University of Rome Tor Vergata in 2017, an achievement recognized internationally. Her education was further enriched by training at the Alfonso X el Sabio Dental Clinic in Madrid, Spain. Despite the prominence of her digital presence, her primary passion remains rooted in dentistry. Her digital career, while allowing her to reach and influence a broad audience, serves as a platform to disseminate important messages and social themes through collaborative productions. Yet, it is her role as a Dentist and Oral Surgeon, dedicated to clinical research, that she values most deeply. A significant aspect of her practice involves the application of dental veneers, particularly the American Lumineers veneers. These ultra-thin coatings, ranging from 0.2 to 0.3 mm in thickness, are ideal for patients seeking non-invasive treatments. Made from pressed ceramics, Lumineers provide a bright, natural aesthetic without the need to file down the teeth. This technique has become increasingly popular among celebrities and patients alike, seeking cutting-edge aesthetic solutions such as laser-activated whitening and veneer applications for exceptional results. Notably, the application of Lumineers veneers is painless and reversible, with no side effects. The procedure requires only two sessions: one for taking digital impressions and another for cementing the veneers. This method is recommended for addressing issues such as diastema (gaps between teeth), permanent discoloration, shape defects, and broken or malformed teeth, making it suitable for a wide range of patients. Reflecting on her journey, she offers invaluable advice to young dentists aspiring to excel in the field. Emphasizing the importance of commitment, dedication, continuous study, and training, she encourages a passion for learning from the best, coupled with curiosity and humility. She highlights the significance of patient care, sharing a poignant lesson from her university days: "Those who work with their hands are workers. Those who work with their hands and head are craftsmen. Those who work with their hands, head, and heart are artists." Her counsel to young professionals is clear—strive to be artists, working every day with heart and dedication. • Black Hole Theory

by Akash Khatri Black Hole Theory 1 October 2020 SOCIETY Advertisement Advertisement If what happens beyond universe fascinates you then this article is for you! “Black Hole”, “Warm Hole” these are few of the scientific terms that recently became famous, thanks to the sci-fi series and films! But have you ever delved into the reality check of these theories? If not, no worries! We will be talking about the theories and facts related to Black hole right here in this article. “Black Hole” – the enigma that this term has! Who first predicted the “Black Hole” theory? The human genius Albert Einstein explained about the existence of “Black Hole” long back in 1916 in his work “General Theory of Relativity”. But he never named it as “Black Hole”. It was more of a prediction than a theory. Want to know a fun fact? Einstein himself never believed that such an object could exist in the outer space! Then who coined this name? It was American astronomer John Wheeler who coined the term “Black Hole” in the year 1967. But even till that time, nobody could find a trace of black hole. When we got know that black holes REALLY exist? The first ever black hole was discovered in the year 1971 and soon the world acknowledged the existence of black hole in real. What exactly is a Black Hole? Black hole is a densely compact object that does not let anything pass through it, even light. It has immense gravitational pull. Why this has so much of gravitational pull? When matter is squeezed into a tiny space it is bound to have such kind of gravitational pull! And black hole is a sheer black space in universe which can’t be seen with naked eyes. How black holes are formed? When a star runs out of fuel, it dies and gets converted into a “black hole. A space where only gravitational pull is left. No spark-No shine-No light! Are there only one kind of black hole? No, there are three kinds of black holes (discovered so far): 1. Steller Black Holes 2. Supermassive Black Holes 3. Intermediate Black Holes What did Stephen Hawking contribute about this topic Black Hole? In 1974, Stephen Hawking made a prediction that black holes eventually evaporate entirely (Though this theory is yet to be physically proved in real!!). Another interesting theory explained by Hawking is “Spaghettification”. This theory says, if by default, an object is trapped in a black hole then due to its exceptional gravitational pull the object would be stretched like a Spaghetti from head to toe, vertically! There is no end on the number of theories that this enigmatic topic has! #blackhole #Hawking #spaghettification #theories SEARCH Women Empowerment A mere concept or a real Concern SOCIETY Looking Through The Excellence Of ‘Jaali’ Architecture SOCIETY Why the Gender Pay Gap is Wide and Disturbing SOCIETY Festival of Stones SOCIETY The Pygmalion Effect SOCIETY POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement By Anushka Sharma Uniting Voices, Shaping Futures: Dive Into Mun 2.0 At NIT Patna 8 September 2024 SOCIETY By Anushka Sharma These Healthy Habits Can Lower Your Risk Of Depression 31 August 2024 SOCIETY By Rini Pathak A Glance In The Kshitij’23: A Euphoric Escapade 26 January 2024 SOCIETY By Rini Pathak Mithibai Kshitij: Epitome Of Diverse Social Cause Empowerment 24 January 2024 SOCIETY RELATED POSTS
