  • The Saga Of Saloni And The Rise Of GulaboJaipur

The Saga Of Saloni And The Rise Of GulaboJaipur by Anushka Sharma The Saga Of Saloni And The Rise Of GulaboJaipur 8 March 2023 FASHION Advertisement As each year passes, the world meets with more and more wins for women, and our nation is no exception to this phenomenon. From women being able to receive the accolades in various industries to witnessing them being employed in the rural part of India, this Women’s Day, we’re just happy to have come this far. To have reached corners and nooks that this nation has treasured since time immemorial. Narrating a tale as old as time(10 years ago), There once existed a brand that believed in building itself through embracing the heritage and craftsmanship of Rajasthan. It believed in exuding the best of Jaipur in particular, and soared high enough to carve a niche in the hearts of some Bollywood biggies. While the tale doesn’t end here, there’s a lot to catch up on GulaboJaipur . GulaboJaipur is so much more than a successful brand in today’s times. It represents how Saloni, the founder, saw the world of indigenous fashion through rose tinted glasses, and materialized all that she had once envisioned for her brand. If we take it long, long ago, it was Saloni’s mother who believed in her eye for design and gave her the capital to start the business. Needless to say, the capital has been wonderfully utilized and multiplied in paramount ways. GulaboJaipur has been casting its magic over the masses ever since its inception. It’s been 10 years since the brand gained momentum, and beautifully so, hasn’t stopped since. Situated in a region of India which is heavily diverse in beauty, customs and traditions, Saloni wanted to do more than just extract the cultural and aesthetic segment of Rajasthan. Along with curating some beloved pieces which were later cherished by Kareena Kapoor and various other celebrities of taste, she was also empowering the women of Rajasthan by offering them employment. “I try to employ more and more artisans from all parts of Rajasthan, such as Bagru, Sanganer, and many more. Each village in Rajasthan is different and each sub-region defines differences in craftsmanship. I also believe that women can live with more pride if they are financially independent.” - Saloni As something noteworthy that the brand has experienced in these few years, Saloni recalls how she jumped with joy when she had received an email from the Pataudi Palace. The email expressed Kareena Kapoor’s keen interest in shopping for maternity wear from GulaboJaipur . That incident played the role of a good luck charm in the business which later flourished amidst a lot of celebrities. The key-takeaway in this entire process of fashion stardom was how the brand was loved, appreciated and admired for its core values and design. As a brand that has existed for more than ten years, we didn’t expect Saloni to remember much about her very first collection. To our surprise, she has a vivid memory of every scaled-down detail of her first collection, from launching Anarkalis with broad gotta patti to her velvet scarves. If this doesn’t make one believe in the essence of a brand being the founder’s baby, we don’t know what will! Saloni also recalls how GulaboJaipur was earlier marketed and managed in terms of its sales by Saloni’s husband, and he indeed took the business to new, scalable, virtual heights. But do you know what differentiates GulaboJaipur from the multitude of labels that exist out there? Nothing. The sheer beauty of this brand is how it embraces everyday wear with so much grace and grandeur. Saloni puts it perfectly, “I believe in making clothes that are very sadabahar and can be worn anywhere and everywhere.” Well, she clearly has mixed a lot of chic-essence in these Sadabahar attires, and we indeed love every bit of it! Saloni’s saga of the revival of indigenous fashion in the most effortless way possible is worth admiration. Her story inspires and celebrates women on a similar rhythm. While the individuality and confidence with which she reigns her brand teaches us a lot about how it ultimately results in believing in oneself, her success as a fashion designer celebrates how a woman cherished her roots in her work at all times and yet took over the world by a storm! • How Fashion Haul Is Damaging Our Environment: Explained

How Fashion Haul Is Damaging Our Environment: Explained by Aishwarya How Fashion Haul Is Damaging Our Environment: Explained 3 November 2022 FASHION Advertisement If you are active on social media, you would know what fashion haul is. At least once, these fashion haul videos must have popped on your feed. These videos can also be there in your ‘for you’ feed. Well, you might think, what’s the big deal if these videos are there? So let us tell you that, these videos are destroying our environment. Not in a real sense, but hypothetically speaking, these hauls lead to excessive buying of clothes and that leads to the destruction of our environment. A haul is a video that is promotional and, most fashion influencers do it. The company sends them a large number of clothes to try on and review. In return, the influencers get a hefty compensation in money or its kind. Now, the problem with such a promotion is that it provokes the audience to buy stuff that isn’t even needed by them. These hauls are heavily focused on fast fashion , which on its own is damaging to our nature. Though the hauls are bad for nature, people seem to like those content. The concept to understand here is that hauls are not only bad for our nature but are also for our budget. TikTok is a video content platform and, there are more than 1 billion views on the #clothinghaul hashtag and almost 13 billion views on the #haul hashtag. These numbers show us the reach, these videos have amongst the audience. The famous Shein is one of the most popular companies, in the haul trend. Shein hauls are popular for sure, but they are also driven by a marketing strategy. Shein has an affiliate program for influencers , that pays them a 10-20% commission for the haul post. Now, let’s talk about the damage, that these fast fashion hauls do to our environment. According to a study , the fast fashion industry creates almost 92 million tons of waste and, consumes around 79 trillion litres of water each year. As an industry, the fast fashion industry is responsible for 1/3rd of all microplastics found in the ocean and, produces almost 20% of global water waste. These numbers will concern you, but the fact is that most of fast fashion’s waste comes from post-production. Textile waste, the waste from unused textiles and old cloths, ends up in landfills. Around 85% of all textiles wind up in landfills every year- equivalent to one garbage truck filled with clothes being dumped in landfills every second. If this doesn’t concern you- which shouldn't be the case, there’s more than this. The fashion industry is the second largest polluter in the world, after the oil industry. Well, if you are thinking that, then why is it always the fashion industry that is being targeted? Then the reason is that fashion is a want and not a need. An excessive amount of clothing is harming the environment and also your bank account (read: month-end balance). The wastewater that this fast fashion industry produces, has toxic substances in it like lead, mercury, and arsenic. These substances are extremely harmful to aquatic life- where these substances are released, and also to millions of people who live by the river banks. A huge quantity of freshwater is used for dyeing and other processes, which leads to a shortage even more. To this, cotton needs a lot of water to grow, up to 20,000 litres of water is needed to produce 1kg of cotton. Another contributor to pollution is chemicals. They are used in every process, right from dyeing to result. The fashion industry also accounts for 10% of global carbon emission. It is also seen that the fashion industry has a major part in the degradation of soil. Apart from these environmental issues, there also exist some societal issues. The workers in the fashion industry are compensated very less and, and they work for a crazy amount of time. This is to keep up with the trends and deliver the clothes within the shortest period possible. This makes them a slave to the time, and they often end up getting burned out mentally and physically. The fast fashion and haul culture also give rise to the flex culture. Youngsters are on a quest to always have the trendiest clothes and also an excessive amount of clothing to wear. When there is a will, there is a way. So, the solution to this problem/disaster lies in acknowledging the harm that it is creating and, showing some willingness to change. Change isn’t difficult in today’s world, where nearly everything and anything has a cool alternative available. We just need to be mindful and choose sustainable options rather than a convenient option. A haul is a video that is promotional and, most fashion influencers do it. The company sends them a large number of clothes to try on and review. In return, the influencers get a hefty compensation in money or its kind. • The planet’s number one choice of beverage

by Aparajita Jaiswal The planet’s number one choice of beverage 7 July 2022 FOOD Advertisement Advertisement Is coffee just a brewed drink prepared from roasted coffee beans? A love of all things connected with coffee has brought both large and small companies into the world of coffee production and trading. Coffee culture is constantly changing as coffee drinkers seek new ways to enjoy their favorite beverage. People get together for a cup of coffee and a whole cosmos of conversations. In North America and a lot of western European countries, Starbucks and other coffee chains have dominated the market because they are providing to the customers a complete experience around coffee. Coffee and friends, coffee and work, coffee and snacks and coffee to go! The Irish mix coffee with whiskey and they call it “Irish coffee”. In Italy the espresso and espresso machine were born and made into the favorite whole-day beverage of Italians. In Greece, there is an old fashioned coffee shop for old gentlemen, the “kafenio”, where they drink Greek coffee and exchange political ideas or they play cards and a board game called “tavli”. Also, some countries, like Colombia or Brazil, the whole economy is based in coffee. Although, the majority of coffee is produced in Brazil. It produces 40% of the world’s coffee. Interestingly enough, the word espresso comes from Italian and means “expressed” or “forced out”. Espresso is made by forcing very hot water under high pressure through finely ground, compacted coffee. Wherein, the cappuccino was named after Capuchin friars because its color resembles the Capuchin robe. Contrary to the popular belief, dark roast and light roast coffee actually have a similar amount of caffeine. “Coffee – the favorite drink of the civilized world.” – Thomas Jefferson Historically, the word ‘coffee’ comes from the Arabic word ‘qahwah’ which refers to a type of wine. Before coffee became widely available, the popular breakfast drink was beer. No one knows exactly how or when coffee was discovered, though there are many legends about its origin. It is said that coffee grown worldwide can trace its heritage back centuries to the ancient coffee forests on the Ethiopian plateau. Legend believes, the goat herder, Kaldi, first discovered the potential of these beloved beans. The story goes that that Kaldi discovered coffee after he noticed that after eating the berries from a certain tree, his goats became so energetic that they did not want to sleep at night. Kaldi reported his findings to the abbot of the local monastery, who made a drink with the berries and found that it kept him alert through the long hours of evening prayer. The abbot shared his discovery with the other monks at the monastery, and knowledge of the energising berries began a journey which would bring these beans across the globe. Before people learned how to brew coffee, east African tribes mixed coffee berries with animal fat and consumed it as food. It takes a lot to brew the perfect cup of coffee. Some of the best coffee in the world comes from high-quality beans and unique processing methods. Each of these specialty coffees is known for their distinct flavour and aroma, as well as their high price tag. “Kopi Luwak” is the most expensive coffee in the world. It comes from Indonesia and is made from beans digested from the Asian Palm Civet. In other words, it comes from cat poop. It sells for €350 and up per kilo! Another one of the most expensive coffee in the world is Black Ivory Coffee. It can cost up to $1,100 per kilogram. This coffee is produced from part-digested coffee cherries eaten and defecated by Thai elephants. “Beethoven was such an ardent coffee lover that he’d count 60 beans per cup before making his brew.” Not only can your daily cup of joe help you feel more energised, burn fat and improve physical performance, it may also lower your risk of several conditions, such as type 2 diabetes, cancer and Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. In fact, coffee may even boost longevity. A study by the University of Texas has found that men who drank two cups a day were 42 per cent less likely to suffer from erectile dysfunction compared to men who didn’t. Studies have shown that drinking coffee may lower your risk of depression. Globally people consume about 2.25 billion cups of coffee every day. Coffee is most effective if you drink it between 9:30 and 11:30 AM. Scientists have now successfully turned ground coffee into bio-diesel, so one day coffee may be fuelling your car. Historical facts about coffee are almost unbelievable but very true like for example coffee was banned in Mecca in 1511 as it was believed to stimulate radical thinking and idleness. In ancient Arab culture, a woman could only divorce her husband if he didn’t like her coffee. Another strange fact is the Guinness World record holder for the “Oldest Cat Ever,” a 38-year-old cat named Crème Puff; drank coffee every morning her whole life. #CoffeeCoffeebeansBrazilEspressoBeverageBrazil SEARCH How was Chocolate Born FOOD Virgin Territory: These non-alcoholic thirst quenchers are mixologist approved FOOD Tasting the sunny side of Christmas: Christmas Cocktails FOOD 5 Destinations You Must Head to Taste Wine in India FOOD Breakfast – Don’t miss! • Love Yourself

SOCIETY by Neha Pande Love Yourself 27 July 2020 SOCIETY Advertisement Advertisement The 21st century has had some of the best inventions, theories, findings and the list goes on and on, but 21st century, especially 2017 and 2018, have also marked the beginning of body positivity for men and women. Now tell me how many times have you felt down thinking about your body? Thinking I’m fat or I’m too skinny or my arms are too long or my thighs need a thigh gap or maybe not. How many times have you looked into the mirror and felt sick of the way you look? But this year is the time when you leave all those worries behind and think positively about yourself and your body. Go to the gym because you want to be healthy, not skinny or eat a lot, not because you want more mass on your body, eat for yourself because it’s healthy for your body. Girls and guys at times get gloomy because of their body weight thinking “I’m getting too fat and I should probably go on a diet,” To them my answer is, No honey! No need to go on a diet! Because you look and are perfect just the way you are and let’s not forget in olden times a little bit of fat or plum was in fashion and now is coming back into fashion. The boys and girls who say “I’m too skinny, ” To them I’d like to say is that god you look beautiful and to my guy friends I’d like to say, you look handsome! I mean look at those collar bones, I want those. Beauty is subjective and it’s us who are making it objective but I’m proud of some high fashion magazines like Vogue and Elle for giving chances to models who do not fit the typical “model” standards that are tall, slim and oval shaped face models with great eyebrows. There has been a significant change in the fashion and makeup world which is embracing body positivity but there is always more scope as we still are hesitant towards it. We all should embrace ourselves and our bodies, go to the gym and exercise because it’s good for the body and eat yummy dishes because you deserve it! The best thing is nowadays we have amazing role models to look up to who talk about body positivity and how to embrace it, like Demi Lovato, Arjun Kapoor, Shane Dawson and many more who talk about how important it is to be body positive and spread body positivity. I mean if Robert Downey Jr. can be short and be the infamous Iron Man who has shaken up the movie industry. Our amazingly talented Adele can be plum and still embracing her body and rocking the stage, then we can also embrace our body and be positive about it. #BodyPositivitySelfloveLoveyourselfPositivityVogueEllePlussizeSkinnyDemiLovatoShaneDawsonRobertDowneyJuniorArjunKapoorAdeleBodylove SEARCH Women Empowerment A mere concept or a real Concern SOCIETY Looking Through The Excellence Of ‘Jaali’ Architecture SOCIETY Why the Gender Pay Gap is Wide and Disturbing SOCIETY Festival of Stones SOCIETY The Pygmalion Effect SOCIETY POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement By Anushka Sharma Uniting Voices, Shaping Futures: Dive Into Mun 2.0 At NIT Patna 8 September 2024 SOCIETY By Anushka Sharma These Healthy Habits Can Lower Your Risk Of Depression 31 August 2024 SOCIETY By Rini Pathak A Glance In The Kshitij’23: A Euphoric Escapade 26 January 2024 SOCIETY By Rini Pathak Mithibai Kshitij: Epitome Of Diverse Social Cause Empowerment 24 January 2024 SOCIETY RELATED POSTS

  • Purab Kohli’s Cinematic Expedition Through Films, Travel And Self-Expression

Purab Kohli’s Cinematic Expedition Through Films, Travel And Self-Expression by Akshra Khandelwal Purab Kohli’s Cinematic Expedition Through Films, Travel And Self-Expression 22 September 2023 COVER STORIES Advertisement As the midyear sun casts its warm glow upon us, we find ourselves caught in a whirlwind of moments, events, and experiences that shape our lives. For actor extraordinaire Purab Kohli, these last six months have been a whirlwind, an exhilarating rollercoaster of creativity and exploration that has left him both exhilarated and eager for more. As we settle in for a candid chat with the versatile actor, we delve into his recent adventures, cinematic escapades, wanderlust, and thoughts on life, work, and style. "It's gone by really fast. It's been quite a busy first half of the year," Kohli begins with a boyish grin, his eyes sparkling with the energy that has propelled him through a bustling six months. "I've been in three films back to back," he continues, recounting his dynamic journey since March. The actor's journey unfolded like a tapestry, with each thread representing a different cinematic endeavour. "Putul," he mentions a film that swept him into its narrative embrace throughout March and April. Followed by "Let There Be Love," a project that captivated him throughout May and June. And then there was "Ahutti," a venture that spanned from June to July, inviting him into another realm of storytelling. And then, the much-needed interlude - a holiday that rejuvenated his spirit and encapsulated the essence of family. "That brings us to seven months of the year, more than half the year. And raring to go for the next five months, looking forward to the next five months," Kohli asserts, his enthusiasm palpable. Speaking of cinematic ventures, Kohli's eyes light up as he delves into the intriguing world of "Blind." "It was a film released on Jio Cinema last month," he begins, recounting his role in the narrative alongside Sonam Kapoor. The film's chilling premise casts him as an evil, serial-killing driver, a role that contrasts starkly with his pleasant demeanour. The journey of filming "Blind" was marked by challenges, notably the lockdown restrictions and the winter cold of Glasgow, where the shooting took place. "A lot of the shooting of Blind was done in the dark at night," Kohli shares, his voice tinged with reminiscence of the intense experience. "When you see the film, you'll realise it was freezing conditions." But amidst the challenges, camaraderie blossomed among the small crew, creating an atmosphere of creativity and connection that kept spirits high. As the conversation steers toward his love for travel, Kohli's eyes light up like a child's Christmas morning. "Yes, of course, I love to travel. Who doesn't love to travel?" he exclaims. But the seasoned traveller has found himself favouring road and train journeys overflights, citing the exhausting ordeal of airports. "I wish someone could come up with an easier experience of airports," he muses, echoing a sentiment shared by many. For Kohli, travel is an avenue for self-discovery, a means to unearth uncharted facets of oneself. "I love seeing new places. I love discovering new parts about myself in these new places," he declares, an explorer at heart. A seasoned globetrotter, Kohli eagerly unveils the top contenders on his bucket list. Having recently ticked off Norway and Scandinavia from the list, he now sets his sights on South America, with Brazil, in particular, capturing his imagination. "Brazil is the next one to check off," he shares, his eyes glittering with the anticipation of new horizons. Peering into the future, Kohli opens up about upcoming releases and his plans for the months ahead. A topic that couldn't be overlooked is Kohli's signature salt-and-pepper look, which he wears with authority and pride. "The salt-and-pepper look gives me some age," he chuckles, reflecting on the visual impact of his facial hair. • Breaking Boundaries: Monalisa Hazarika’s Journey To Mrs. India Inc

Breaking Boundaries: Monalisa Hazarika’s Journey To Mrs. India Inc By Sakshi Batra Breaking Boundaries: Monalisa Hazarika’s Journey To Mrs. India Inc 29 December 2024 FASHION Advertisement What happens when a woman decides to defy conventions and chase her dreams fearlessly? She becomes a trailblazer, an inspiration, and a symbol of empowerment. Monalisa Hazarika’s story is one such tale - A journey of grit, grace, and a relentless pursuit of breaking barriers. From a dreamer to a proud participant in Mrs. India , she has transformed not just her life but also the way society views women’s aspirations. Today, as a proud participant in Mrs. India, Monalisa’s journey is an inspiration to all those who dare to dream big. Empowering Women To Break Stereotypes Monalisa firmly believes that the world of beauty pageants has evolved and is no longer constricted to the stereotypical image of a woman . Women who participate in pageants are here to do so on their own terms. We are not just about beauty; we’re about brains, vision, and the ability to lead says Monalisa. “Pageants are, in fact, one of the biggest platforms for women to break the shackles of outdated stereotypes. It’s about time we celebrate every facet of a woman - the strengths, the flaws, the dreams, and the ambitions.” This powerful statement not only reflects Monalisa’s personal perspective but also challenges us to rethink the traditional narratives surrounding beauty and womanhood. For her, being a part of Mrs. India is about amplifying her voice, sharing her vision with the world, and inspiring women everywhere to believe in their potential. Support That Speaks Louder Than Words Entering a world as glamorous as fashion and beauty pageants is no easy feat. Yet, Monalisa’s journey has been paved with unwavering support from her family and partner. I’m one of the luckiest women to have such a supportive family she shares with a smile. “It was my mother-in-law who encouraged me to go ahead with this. And of course, my parents, my sister, my husband, and my kids have been my biggest pillars of strength.” Monalisa’s story reminds us that behind every successful woman is a network of support, encouragement, and love. It’s this collective strength that fuels her passion and drives her to keep pushing forward. Finding Strength In Challenges When asked about her favorite round in the pageant, Monalisa’s response is both inspiring and empowering. My favorite rounds were the panel interview and the top 15 Q&A she reveals. “It was here that I got to speak of my vision and mission in life, and this became my biggest platform to voice my opinion in front of such a large audience.” For Monalisa, the most rewarding aspect of her journey has been the opportunity to express her thoughts and dreams on a national stage. And it hasn’t always been easy . There have been moments when I felt hopeless,” she admits. “But I always made sure I got back to my confident and zealous self. Her story is a testament to the fact that success doesn’t come without challenges. But with consistency, hard work, and an unwavering belief in oneself, anything is possible. Comforting Food Despite the glamour and glitz of beauty pageants, Monalisa remains grounded. On a cheat day, my comfort food is always Biryani she laughs, adding a relatable touch to her powerful persona. It’s this down-to-earth nature that makes her even more admirable - A reminder that at the heart of every strong woman is a human being with simple joys and passions. If Monalisa Was A Judge? As a judge or curator, Monalisa would introduce a round that’s deeply personal: the All About Me round. “Here, a contestant would get to talk about herself - her story, her struggles, and her journey,” she explains. This round would be all about self-expression, with no questions or expectations from the judges. It’s a chance for every woman to be heard. Monalisa believes in authenticity, whether it’s in beauty or fashion . When something is overdone, it loses its charm she says. I believe in keeping it simple and staying true to yourself. Fashion should reflect who you are, not what others want you to be. This philosophy is part of what makes Monalisa’s outlook on fashion so refreshing. For her, it’s not about following trends, but rather about embracing individuality and personal style. Timeless Fashion: A Nod To The Past Fashion, as Monalisa puts it, always comes full circle . Fashion is cyclical. What’s old always comes back, whether it’s bell-bottom jeans or other styles from past generations she observes. And that’s the beauty of fashion—it can never be off permanently. Monalisa’s view on fashion is a reminder that trends are ever evolving, and there’s always room for creativity and reinvention. It’s about making the past relevant to the present and embracing your own unique version of style. The Legacy Of Mrs. India: A Platform For Empowerment As Monalisa’s journey unfolds, it’s clear that Mrs. India has not only been a platform for beauty but for empowerment. It’s about showcasing the true essence of a woman - her strength, her intelligence, her grace, and her resilience. Her story serves as an invitation to all women: dare to dream, be bold, embrace your individuality, and rise above challenges. Because when you have the courage to follow your passion, there are no limits to what you can achieve. • Raveena Mehta, The Rising Phoenix

Raveena Mehta, The Rising Phoenix by Naisargi Devdher Raveena Mehta, The Rising Phoenix 17 September 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement The beautiful and incredulous singer, Raveena Mehta talks about her journey of becoming a singer and the path of good mental health that can lead one there. This story comes from the very depth of Raveena Mehta's journey as an artist, especially with the Pandemic hitting the world hard. Speaking of which, she mentions, "When the pandemic hit, I lived in my home studio. I have a home set up where I record a lot of my music. I decided to get into a routine to make a cover everyday and worked on composing. This led me to release around 7 songs in 2020 which was a great feeling. It has been incredible to see the way India has digitized over the last two years, an immense amount of technological progress." Speaking of success, it's one of the most beautiful feelings in the entire world; when reality strikes an artist! It just glows over the body and the mind, when the artist makes it big in the industry. However, Raveena does not recollect any such moment where she realized she was going big, but continues to say, "I don't think there was ever such a moment where I realised I was going big, but when I was approached to demo with 'Casanova Acoustic', that felt pretty great! Reality striking was never a daunting thing, reality is also what you make of it and depends on how you are viewing your cup, hopefully always half full. I also believe maintaining a small inner circle is one of the most important things to remain grounded and level headed in a whirlwind of an industry." Raveena is not only successful nationally but recognised for her talent all over the globe, at film festivals and red carpets. Raveena exclaims gratefully, "For artists, it is always incredible to be able to see your work being recognised globally. I find it endearing when my Hindi songs are appreciated in Cannes. When I was there for the Film festival, it felt brilliant to know the music that comes from India is so sought after." Singing soulfully has always reached to the most interior bosom of a being and in doing so, Raveena Mehta has attained incredulous levels of success! "I define success with deriving happiness. I tend to keep myself and my headspace quite process oriented and so I find happiness in smaller, process driven moments. Of course, when I release a song and I can see that people appreciate the music, that most definitely also makes me feel successful. Success for me means earning respect and focusing on my happiness." When the appreciation of fans and people hits, the gaze is difficult to handle. The expectations, the build ups or the love is tedious and risky to respond to! Raveena truly respects all her listeners and fans, understanding that respecting them would earn her respect! "I truly respect all my listeners and fans. I feel blessed to know that people out there listen to and appreciate my music. I try to meet their expectations with my music. I truly feel like as an artist, you have to strike a balance between the things that want to be heard from you and the things you wish to create, remaining authentic and yourself. There’s a happy medium in there somewhere." When the audience speculate rumours, or show disrespect towards the art and the song, many artists feel undervalued. Everyone is entitled to their own tastes and opinions. To this day, in the world, the fear of a song being perceived incorrectly, is tremendous and has the capacity of wrecking one's mental health. Raveena, reflects on both, the expectations of people as well as one's mental health. "In my opinion, music is art and ultimately art is subjective and open to interpretation. To that point, I feel it becomes imperative to try to detach yourself from the work to an extent; so you can allow the work to grow and evolve wholeheartedly. I personally don't think I have ever felt too worried about a song being misinterpreted or misunderstood." Raveena also talks about how one's mental peace is key while working in a creative field. Creating can only be brought forward with a clear mind and peaceful environment. "Mental health is everything. I believe strongly in preserving one's mental sanctity, constantly focusing on self betterment and doing the things that make you the best version of yourself. These are definitely deliberate efforts and as for me, singing and drawing is therapeutic and it definitely helps me remain in touch with myself." Having said that, a lot of discipline is required from one's team as well. Every form of art, including a well produced album requires a strong and disciplined team. Raveena also comments on the same saying, "One annoying trait for me is tardiness, I generally find it annoying especially if it is concerning work for example in the form of a meeting. But hey, I also recognise that Mumbai traffic is also very hectic." Hectic schedules and a demanding creative field, on several instances, can also lead to mind blocks. Raveena adds, "If I ever have a mind block while i’m working, I tend to take some time for myself; I either go for a walk or do something that brings me a lot of peace. I try to disassociate any kind of pressure that is possibly creating a wall between my thoughts and inspiration." This global icon reinforced the importance of being true to herself while retaining the soul of her music and the integrity of her sound. However while acknowledging all of it, she remarked on a very beautiful note, "I find that sometimes in chasing trends, it is very easy to lose the soul of the music. In today's age with reels, tiktok and instant gratification which is equally as important to generating viewership, this can also be a double edged sword. While a lot of today's artists consider trends, it is also important to consider and retain the soul and integrity of your sound." • Priya Ahuja gets candid about her life behind the screen

Priya Ahuja gets candid about her life behind the screen by Aarti Singh Priya Ahuja gets candid about her life behind the screen 8 October 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement A crucial part of a legendary Indian sitcom that has been ruling our screens for years now; Priya Ahuja aka. Rita Reporter has first-handedly faced the uncertainties of the industry. “There is no guarantee or any mantra of getting successful.” She has been a witness to how the industry requires tedious and copious amounts of hard work. Hard work that more so than often goes hand-in-hand with good luck. Priya feels that social media is one factor that has indefinitely made a huge difference for people today. “Few things are like blessings, say social media for that matter. Instagram helps so much; you can showcase your talent in a lot of ways, you can make reels, portray different shades of yourself. You don’t need to rush and make portfolios and look for the casting director. Social media has made it very easy that you can approach a lot of casting people directly through Instagram and share your work directly.” Her love for her work can clearly be seen in her deep-seated understanding of the same. She feels that the most challenging aspect of her job is also the most beautiful aspect and that is “The Show Must Go On.” “Whatever happens in your personal life, you have to get up next day and shoot. Whatever circumstances you face; in your family or in your personal life, you have to give your best shot when you’re working. So, I feel that’s the most challenging yet the most beautiful part of being an actor” When not busy with any projects, Priya enjoys reading. “The book that I love the most and has made a lot of impact in my life is The Alchemist. Really really love that book.” When asked about the people that have the most influence on her, she revealed that there are a lot of inspiring people like Boman Irani, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Dilip Joshi. These actors who are so brilliant at their jobs, someone started late, someone got success a little late, they motivate Priya a lot. “It’s okay just keep working hard. One day- someday- you are going to get your due, if you’re good at your job.” And it isn’t a hidden fact that at times, it gets tough in showbiz. In times like these, Priya likes to believe that one day she will get it. “That faith in my hard work, in my talent, that one day, someday, I’m also going to be there. I am going to achieve that. And I know I am going to do that. So that keeps me going. It’s okay if yesterday wasn’t that great, it’s okay if today is just ok ok. But surely, tomorrow is going to be beautiful.” On a heartfelt note, Priya revealed that she doesn’t believe in failures. According to her, a failure isn’t a failure if you learn something from it. Yet still, one regret she’ll always have is her short span on the hit serials Balika Vadhu and Saubhagyavati Bhava . “I was part of Balika Vadhu, it was a beautiful character; and also, Saubhagyavati Bhava . Both the shows, really really hit. But unfortunately, my track got over too early. I shot for very less days in both the shows. So yeah that regret I think I’ll have somewhere.” She wishes she could play the two characters in the respective shows for a comparatively longer period. We were pleasantly surprised when Priya said that she doesn’t plan her life. “All I want is to stay an actor till my last breath. That is, you can say, my biggest aim or my biggest dream. I always, always, want to stay an actor. Of course I want to be more successful than what I am, I want to achieve way more, I want to perform a lot of different characters, want to do more and more challenging characters, roles in my life. That’s the only plan. I don’t know when and how things are going to shape up but I’m sure soon something amazing will happen in my life.” Moving onto the fitness aspect of her routine, Priya shared that she absolutely loves working out and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Everyone who follows her knows how big of an advocate she is of a healthy active lifestyle. “I would love to clarify this, that I am not into fitness because I want to stay slim. I am into fitness because I want to stay healthy. Getting up without any support, so that when I get up, my body shouldn’t hurt. When I grow old, I don’t want to walk with support, up until a certain age. Maybe after a certain age, I’ll have to, but until then I would like to stay extremely fit so I can take care of myself.” In conversation about women empowerment, Priya disclosed that Feminism and Women Empowerment isn’t limited to wearing what you feel like wearing, behaving in a certain way, acting chic; Feminism isn’t about being ahead of men. It is about feeling empowered from within. “It is about the choices that you make in life. You have the ability to make the right choices and decisions about your life. You feel secure in a society, you feel powerful, you feel like you are an equal decision- maker in your family as much as the man in your family is.” Talking about life away from work, Priya mentioned how most of her time is spent running behind her toddler. And when she is not running behind her toddler, she compensates that by running on the treadmill. Just kidding! When she’s not spending time with her son, she is usually working out. “Currently I started doing Zumba and I really really enjoy doing that. I am totally in love with it.” Wrapping up the interview, Priya mentioned some upcoming future projects that’ll be revealed in due time. “Please keep on showering your love and keep us in your prayers. Very soon you’ll see me in something amazing. As an actor, if you are my fan, all I can say is, promise that pretty soon I’m going to do something amazing and I won’t disappoint you. As an actor.
