- Festival of Stones
SOCIETY by Neha Pande Festival of Stones 27 July 2020 SOCIETY Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement Bagwal also known as DevidhuraFair is celebrated at Maa Varahi Devi Temple in Devidhura located at a distance of 45km from Lohaghat in the Champawat district of Uttarakhand. Devidhura also marks the tri-junction of Almora, Pithoragarh and Nainital districts and is famous for its rich cultural fair that is celebrated with devotion and enthusiasm. This fair is celebrated every year during Rakshabandhan that falls on the full moon day of the month of Shravan. Thousands of people from Uttarakhand and Nepal come to visit this grand fair. Bagwal is celebrated by dividing four different groups, collectively known as ‘Khams’. The four groups are four different tribes – Gharwal Kham, Chamyal Kham, Lamgriha Kham and Valig Kham. The fair starts out with the worship of Goddess Varahi, after the worship Prasad is distributed and this is when everything gets a bit tricky. The members of each Kham position themselves on the four corners of the field of the temple and the priest commences the festival with the sound of the ‘shankh’/shell. Bagwal is no normal festival with just worship and joy but here the Khams are fighters who carry sticks, stones and a farra/shield for the fight. These fighters throw stones at one another while at the same time protecting themselves with the shield. It does not matter how wounded or injured they get, the fight does not stop till the priest concludes the fight with the sound of the ‘shankh’. While the fight is going on the rest of the attendees cheer their teams with fight drums, folk songs and folk dances. After the fight all the injured are treated with ‘bichchu grass’ ie. Urtica Dioca. The Myth behind the Bagwal festival:- According to the myth, there once was a tradition of sacrificing a man (Narbali) from the Kham each year to Goddess Varahi. On one such year, it was the turn of this old woman to sacrifice her grandson, with a heavy heart and mind full of devotion she prepared her grandson for the sacrifice. This touched the Goddess’s heart and she spared his life under the condition that an equal amount of blood should be offered to her. Since that day, Bagwal fair is celebrated by the people where the members of each Kham throw stones at each other in order to draw sacrificial blood for Goddess Varahi. Reason for taking this Cultural Fair :- The main reason I choose to write upon Bagwal cultural fair is because my hometown is in Uttarakhand and I also wanted to address the issue of ‘Bali’/Sacrifice. Sacrificing animals as well as people have been going on in our religion as well as many other religions since the dawn of time; from Mayan, Pagan, Hinduism, Muslim etc. Sacrifice or ‘Bali’ in Hindu religion has its own significance, it is symbolic of getting rid of 6 evil forces/enemies ie. Kama– Lust Krodha – Anger Lobha–Greed Mada– Pride Moha – Attachments Matsarya – Jealousy By the sacrificial festival of Bagwal the basic idea of sacrificing men or animals was stopped yet the sacrificial blood was spilled by the act of fighting and throwing stones at each other. Our culture and heritage is one of the oldest; yet, I wanted to showcase some of the flaws in it which have changed and evolved but are still there. In August 2019, 100 men got injured under 10 minutes while celebrating Bagwal in Champwant district, Uttarakhand on Thursday. Even though the human sacrifice was stopped yet, hundreds of people got injured which is not a small thing. This is just one small case, there are many more cases tied up to this festival. Even though there is a high court ban on the use of stones during the festival yet the locals seem to sneak in with stones while outsmarting the authorities.Even a lot of local authorities encourage this practice instead of putting a stop on it. I personally believe that the concept behind ‘Bali’ is not bad because every Dussehra we burn Ravan as a sign of victory of good over evil, just like that ‘Bali’ is the concept of sacrificing 6 evils to the goddess yet the literal concept of ‘Bali’ ie. To sacrifice a living breathing creature or to injure one another is completely wrong. God didn’t make us to harm each other therefore the literal concept of ‘Bali’ should be condemned just like the literal practice of Bagwal should be put to an end. The ideology, unlike the festival, should carry on and pass on from generation to generation. Bagwal is a beautiful festival from Kumaon, Uttarakhand which should be celebrated with joy and enthusiasm, without harming each other as the concept of Bagwal is beautiful just like the myth. Bagwal is the story of love and sacrifice therefore it should be practiced with love and sacrifice of our inner demons instead of throwing stones towards each other to draw out blood as a symbol. The festival is a perfect blend of folk songs, folk dances and folklores. And just like Bagwal our country has hundreds of festivals and practices with a beautiful story but an unlikely tragic execution. #MohaAttachments #Myth #6evilforcesenemiesie #Devidhurafair #Tribal #Regionalfestival #IndianMyths #Indianfestival #MaaVarahiDeviTemple #Bagwalfestival #MatsaryaJealousy #Champawatdistrict #KrodhaAnger #Shravan #Sacrifice #Culturalfair #Lohaghat #IndianRitual #Uttarakhand #LobhaGreed #MaaVarahi #KamaLust #Rituals #Bali #Khams #MadaPride #Rakshabandhan SEARCH Why India is the most depressed country in the world? - The Fractured Fairytale
SOCIETY by Akash Khatri The Fractured Fairytale 1 December 2020 SOCIETY Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement In June 2016, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex and the younger son of Charles, Prince of Wales and Diana, Princess of Wales began a relationship with Meghan Markle, a former actress and a celebrity philanthropist. The engagement was announced on November 27, 2017, by Harry’s father Charles, Prince of Wales. It generated generally positive comments about having a mixed-race person as a member of the royal family, especially in regard to Commonwealth countries with populations of blended or native ancestry. According to DailyMail, by an energy firm they have been branded the least eco-friendly Royals that found that their African tour had generated a hefty carbon footprint of an estimated three tonnes of CO2 each. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex engaged considerably less with environmental charities and engagements as compared to other members of the Royal family. Markle retired from acting after her engagement and began the lengthy process of becoming a British citizen. Meghan was baptized by the archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, and was confirmed her into the Church of England on March 6, 2018. The private ceremony took place in the Chapel Royal at St James’s Palace and was performed with water from the River Jordan. The marriage ceremony was held on May 19 at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle. It was reportedly agreed in advance that excess funds generated from the BBC broadcast of the ceremony would go to a charity chosen by the newlywed couple. In April 2020, Feeding Britain was nominated to receive £90,000 from the BBC, they provided food packages to families in food poverty. After the wedding, the Duke and Duchess lived at Nottingham Cottage on the grounds of Kensington Palace in London. They later moved to Frogmore Cottage in the Home Park of Windsor Castle. The Crown Estate refurbished the cottage at a cost of £2.4 million which was paid out of the Sovereign Grant. The Duke has reportedly paid back this amount in full. The Duchess gave birth to a son on May 6, 2019 named Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor who is seventh in the line of succession to the British throne. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s office moved to Buckingham Palace and officially closed on March 31, 2020, when the Sussexes ceased “undertaking official engagements in support of the Queen”. After some months in Canada and the United States, the couple bought a house in June 2020 on the former estate of Riven Rock in Montecito, California. Currently, they live in a $14million mansion in Santa Barbara. Despite a few interruptions to his parental leave, the royal is said to have been sharing the load of the new-born with his wife. They have been following modern parenting techniques for their son’s upbringing. They even made a shocking decision to move from the UK and out of the royal spotlight. In 2020, harry and Meghan decided to step down as senior members of the royal family. 95% of the couple’s income was given to them annually by Charles, Harry’s father as part of his income from the Dutchy of Cornwell. They announced that they would balance between United kingdom and North America while also seeking financial independence as well as continuing to support their charities and the Queen. In March 2020, Harry’s appearance at the opening of the Silverstone Experience in Silverstone Circuit together with racing driver Lewis Hamilton was his final solo engagement as a senior royal before he and his wife officially stepped down on 31 March. News was in the air later that month after the duke and duchess recorded a video message for Times 100 urging Americans to vote, just weeks before the November 3 elections that the royal would consider running for president. Surprisingly the close folks denied any news of Meghan’s intentions in politics. According to observations though Prince Harry appears to improve his relationship with his brother Prince William they are not as close as they once were, on the other hand, it’s unlikely Meghan will ever want to return as she couldn’t achieve her desire to change the world while working as a member of the royal family. However, Prince Harry doesn’t share the same political ambitions as his wife and would want to work to help the disadvantaged. They have apparently burnt some bridges that now seem to be beyond repair. Harry is believed to be hurt after his request to lay a wreath at the Cenotaph on his behalf was denied by courtiers as he is no longer a working member of the Royal Family. The same has been denied by his grandmother the Queen, who is believed to be unaware of the request from Harry and has continued to keep the door open for his return to frontline duties. After resettling, the couple seems to have unveiled new Hollywood careers. They have found a yet to be known production company and signed a multilayer deal with 193 million worldwide subscribers company, Netflix which will pay them to make documentaries, feature films, children’s programming and scripted shows. The couple releases a statement stating, ” Our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope. As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us.” Author Ingrid Seward slammed the way the couple marked Remembrance Day. Though the Sussex’s appeared to be on their own in the vast Los Angeles Cemetery, they had employed the services of celebrity fashion photographer to record their every scripted move after snaps showed the pair laying an all-green wreath. Royal author Sean Smith whose book Meghan Misunderstood revolves around the former Suits actress feels that within a week Meghan went from being a human right’s campaigner to Prince Harry’s hottie, within a week. The people want old Harry back but it seems like he is now lost forever. SEARCH Why India is the most depressed country in the world? - Suhani Shah Celebrating 25 years in Mentalism
Suhani Shah Celebrating 25 years in Mentalism by Naisargi Devdher Suhani Shah Celebrating 25 years in Mentalism 2 September 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement Even before understanding what fame and glamour is, a child understood what magic is! It was 26 years ago, that a 6 year old Suhani saw a ‘magic show’ and dreamt of becoming a magician. This marks her 25th year performing mentalism, as she still carries the charm and innocence that 7 year old Suhani did. Talking of it, there is a lot of glamour, a factor of ‘wow’, self-love and over confidence associated with the career transition. To which, she elaborately explains, “As a child, I kept talking of magic and fortunately, my parents honestly were extremely considerate about it. You know, my father spent 6 months looking for a tutor and basically putting across magic as my educational development, because somewhere my inclination towards magic was visible. And that was the age when I didn’t even understand what glamour or for a fact even fame is! So when my first show was grandly put about, the then Chief Minister attended it. That was exactly how my career began. So for me on a personal level, fame has been a part of my career, so has glamour, it existed then, it persists now, so never does overconfidence seem to be very much an issue to say.” Putting it simply, she brought about the point of growing up with talent. Queerly, to think of, does a child always begin with imagining that she would be a part of a mega industry rather than just performing for herself? That anticipation of where she’s being lead to marks a crazy confusion in the life of an artist. “To be completely honest, yes, I did think that the talent is leading me to some place grand. I could foresee my career with magic, art and what not around. However, I truly did never expect this transition, you know! I did never know I would be assimilated with a streaming, or filming culture. That for me has not just given me a new hypo graph to live up to but also, something I truly wanted to do. Having youthful energy, I wrote books over mentalism and magic, I had art shows to perform but none of it made me as satisfied as being a part of this industry makes me. That is the exact meaning for transition and unknowingly yet beautiful, I get pushed and mingled in the industry.” When the transition of career happens to be natural, there are a lot of changes one needs to adapt to. There was a demand for the talent I held, but it was never a career that I would want to perform. Thus till the pandemic hit, I really didn’t think of it. However, when the pandemic hit, the work stopped, I was barred from home and that was exactly when I began with YouTube streaming and making videos. So the transition was never sudden, it just happened slowly. I had to adapt, accept and identify that I was away from the stage, I had screens to connect with people to, and performing live had a very different sense. That adaption was actually challenging because it brought me to a stage where I had to recognise my career scope and recognize what exactly was to be done. You know, I didn’t go to school, I didn’t go to college, I was just working all the while, and now I was here where I had to sit and just do nothing. That was more challenging for me. So I remember, starting off with an online show, ‘Magic being performed online’, that somewhat pulled me through the pandemic dilemma. While streaming on YouTube was the exact game changer I was looking for because looking back, I was having fun doing it. Little did I know that it was the beginning of a novel spectrum of my career!” All this while, Suhani mentioned the Pandemic to be a revolution in all senses However, through all of this happening, there is a high doubt of where art forms are leading to when it comes to India, because there's a lot to do with glamour here as well. “A bit contrary to what you said, India is filled with art forms with diverse roots. It’s not even similar, there is a difference in totality. And truly, in my understanding, we are always attracted to glamour. You see a beautiful rose, its glamour, desire of living in a house I glamour, and that will always be appreciated but here it’s more about how you understand art to be. Because art is also glamorous, art also is beautiful and that goes hand in hand. The window to the world during the pandemic was their phones. People were seeing direction, cinematography and all of it came from art. And whatever the screens passed on to people was art. People eventually started valuing art, realising that when nothing works, and its art that they can rely on.” Mentioning the importance of art and growing up with it, there is a lot of superstitious association with magic. Dealing with which stands out from any coaching. “Since childhood, I was looked at as a ‘DEVI’, saying I can heal everything possible. Earlier, people confused me with a musician and there I had to sort out the exact meaning of a magician, after which, a lot of people came to me asking me to heal their illnesses or asking me solve their problems. This was exactly what shifted me away from any sort of superstitious association since childhood. I give ted talks speaking against superstitions. Hence I always say, ‘I CANNOT READ MINDS, I CAN CREATE AN ILLUSION OF READING MIND’.” Just adding illusions cannot definitely define it as magic. However, according to Suhani, Guzaarish is a movie that utilises pieces of magical elements. That’s exactly where she leaves you with… Wonder how to deal with magic, because every potential of yours is magic if you know how to use it!! - A Soirée In Satin: Maison Amory’s AW Reverie
A Soirée In Satin: Maison Amory’s AW Reverie By Ananya Patankar A Soirée In Satin: Maison Amory’s AW Reverie 12 July 2025 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement From L.A. Soirées to Bangkok Showcase Founded in Los Angeles, Maison Amory is known for its romantic ethos. Previously celebrated for their Resort 2025 ‘Soirée’—a homage to intimate celebrations with vintage silhouettes, evening tones, fur trims, and sequins—this latest AW ’25–26 collection continues that narrative with a refined elegance Beneath the soft glow of the runway, Maison Amory revealed its Autumn/Winter 2025–26 collection in a display of signature restraint and elegance. Known for their romantic silhouettes and vintage glamour, the Los Angeles-based label transitioned seamlessly from resort-ready charm to seasonal sophistication. The collection was a quiet spectacle—sequins catching the light like memories, fur trims framing modern classics—anchored in the label’s signature elegance and designed for evenings that linger longer than the night. Maison Amory is a label rooted in romanticism, with a distinctly West Coast lens. Hailing from Los Angeles, the brand has become synonymous with refined silhouettes, vintage flourishes, and a quiet glamour. Their recent Resort 2025 collection, titled Soirée, was an ode to holiday traditions and intimate celebrations—think sequins, fur trims, and moonlit hues. That same spirit carries into their Autumn/Winter ’25–26 edit, where timeless evening wear meets the cool sophistication of seasonal dressing. For Maison Amory, every piece feels like a memory in motion—made to be worn, remembered, and revisited. Maison Amory’s Autumn/Winter ’25–26 collection is an ode to after-dark elegance—where glamour lingers in the details and every look feels like a soft-spoken celebration. Silhouettes embrace vintage nostalgia: where cinched waists, full skirts, draped sleeves, meet dramatic cape coats. There’s a poised restraint in the tailoring, balanced by rich textures and embellishments that catch the light. Velvet—plush and weighty—anchors the collection, appearing in gowns, outerwear, and even delicately piped blouses. Dark sequins lend understated sparkle, while fur details at the collar and cuffs elevate each look with timeless refinement. Satin and jacquard weave throughout, offering structure and sheen in equal measure. The hues suggest a slow-fading dusk—moody and rich, yet delicately lit with hints of candlelight and vintage cream. It’s a wardrobe crafted for intimate occasions—holiday dinners, winter galas, or quiet nights that deserve to feel special. Each ensemble walks the line between timeless and contemporary, with separates that lend themselves to layering and long gowns that speak of storybook elegance. Maison Amory’s ability to distill sentiment into silhouette is what makes this collection more than seasonal fashion—it becomes a winter memory, worn in motion. Set against the high arches and ambient lighting of Bangkok’s Benedict Studio, Maison Amory’s runway show felt like stepping into a private soiree. Thailand Fashion Week , increasingly and global platform for emerging and established designers, offered the perfect stage for the label’s refined storytelling. The audience, an elegant mix of press, stylists, and Southeast Asia's fashion insiders, watched in near reverence as each look unfolded. Unlike louder, trend chasing spectacles, this presentation was quietly confident, inviting viewers to slow down and take in the craftsmanship. In a region balancing tradition with modern luxury, Amory’s aesthetic struck a resonant, romantic chord. The collection speaks to the modern woman who dresses with intention—balancing elegance with longevity. Designed for climates that transition gently into cooler months, the pieces layer effortlessly: capes over gowns, sequined separates under tailored coats. This makes the collection especially resonant across Asian markets, where festive dressing often meets subtle seasonal shifts. With its investment-worthy quality and timeless aesthetic, the line caters to a clientele that values craftsmanship over trend. In Amory’s world, evening wear isn’t occasional—it’s essential. Each piece is built to outlast seasons, serving as heirloom staples for wardrobes that dress up with purpose. Maison Amory’s AW ’25–26 offering isn’t just a collection—it’s a quiet manifesto of modern romance, where elegance isn’t seasonal, it’s eternal. - How was Chocolate Born
by Tanya Gupta How was Chocolate Born 13 August 2022 FOOD Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement Chocolate is one of the most favourite sweet of people. Whether it's a kid or an adult , can never say no to a chocolate. However, chocolate as we see today in various shapes, sizes and flavours was a bitter drink when it was discovered. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile. - Regina Brett It was discovered 4000 years ago in Mexico. Mexicans were the first ones to recognize the value of cocoa seeds in the Amazon forest. They believed that they were the gifts of the God of Wisdom . That time chocolate was served as a bitter liquid brewed from cocoa seeds and mixed with spices . The Mexicans passed on their knowledge to the Mayas. They not only consumed cocoa beans but also used them for transactions. Mayan chocolate was much more thicker and combined with honey or water along with spices. The Aztecs liked drinking chocolate in a cold form. In Spain, chocolate was prescribed by doctors to cure fever, aid in digestion and as a painkiller. In 1828, the cocoa press was invented which squeezed cocoa butter from cocoa beans, resulting in the formation of fine cocoa powder. The powder was then mixed with liquids and molded to form hard solidified chocolates which we eat today. #chocolate #chocolatehistory #Mexico #chocolatelover #cocoa SEARCH How to keep your skin healthy naturally FOOD Fantasy breakfast FOOD All About Homebrewing: The Art of Making Probiotic Fermented Beverages FOOD Virgin Territory: These non-alcoholic thirst quenchers are mixologist approved FOOD Tasting the sunny side of Christmas: Christmas Cocktails FOOD POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement By Shriniwas Kodape Breeze By Lebua State Tower: Duck Skin, Oolong, And The Distance Between Who You Are And Who You Were 9 September 2025 FOOD By Shriniwas Kodape China Table Restaurant At Radisson Blu Plaza Bangkok: A Dim Sum Story At Dusk 7 September 2025 FOOD By Shriniwas Kodape The Blooming Gallery: A Fever Dream Of Matcha And Moss 15 August 2025 FOOD By Shriniwas Kodape Thiptara At The Peninsula Bangkok: Thai Soul By The River 28 July 2025 FOOD RELATED POSTS Advertisement

Many teenagers love wearing sneakers and accessories while a lot of them prefer to adorn baggy jeans with loose T-shirts. In a social event, no two people of the same age will dress the same. Woman A would come in a little black dress while woman B would wear a shimmer top with boyfriend jeans. Fashion and gender The identity surrounding men and women's fashion is another way fashion shapes and represents us. For example, skirts are for women and pants for men. Make-up is only for women while men cannot wear mascara even if they want! If you notice, fashion represents our identities as male and female, even though the world is awakening and the boundary between gender according to gender is fading. Thanks to men in fashion, art, and music, who are challenging the gender norms in fashion and bringing more fluidity and flexibility to it. However, the times are changing and we, as human beings, need to understand that fashion and culture may go hand in hand but it doesn't have to be as per the norms, but individual choice of men and women both. - Building Opportunities And Expanding Horizons: An Interview With Actor Or Writer Meghana Kaushik
Building Opportunities And Expanding Horizons: An Interview With Actor Or Writer Meghana Kaushik by Aadhya Venkatesh Building Opportunities And Expanding Horizons: An Interview With Actor Or Writer Meghana Kaushik 30 June 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement Meghana Kaushik is a multitalented actress and writer who aspires to do great work in the entertainment industry. Wishing to leave her mark, she thrives on the competition she faces. Meghana identifies the kind of work that she needs to do to justify her talent. "As an artist, your goals are clear to you", she says. While speaking about recognizing opportunities, she said that one must always be prepared for the golden opportunity, ready to strike it with complete determination when it does occur. Stemming from the need to create such 'golden opportunities' for herself and others, she began writing for the screen. "As a writer, I can tell stories and narratives that I, as an actor, would like to act in". Meghana also believes that writing stories that she believes in will allow her to talk about subjects that need to be voiced. Meghana comes from theatre and has trained with Barry John as she always believes in improving her craft. Her foray into acting has been a learning curve. Belonging to a family with no connection to the industry, she had to learn everything about the process from scratch. The downside to this is that she has been dropped from many projects because she is not well-connected or comparatively well-known. She hopes that she can eventually work with creators that "cast actors based on their talent instead of social media follower count". Wishing to travel the world with her career, she wants to stand out in her field. She sees herself on the world stage, winning internationally acclaimed awards for her work while simultaneously creating a space of recognition for Indian talent. Currently, she is working on two feature films, one of which she is co-writing. Her inspiration in the field ranges from Madhubala, Waheeda Rehman, Sridevi and Alia Bhatt in the Indian film industry to icons such as Audrey Hepburn, Meryl Streep, Amy Adams, Natalie Portman, and Emily Blunt, amongst others. One of the easiest roles Meghana has played to date has been Nikita from Love, Lust, and Confusion. She believes that the character helped bring out her alter-ego, a person who was free-spirited, fashionable and non-judgmental about life and choices. Meghana strives to be a leader in a world full of followers. She urges those around her to remain positive in their lives and not let our differences and flaws bring us down. She propagates empowerment through acceptance of personal flaws with flair and grace. "Set yourself small goals to start with, and love yourself first" is the mantra she wishes to share. In a message to the youth, she pushes them to take charge and pave the way for the world to become a better place. She champions everyone to use their energies to protect fundamental human rights and promotes education for all. "We always need to be mindful and dream big. It is pertinent that we do not get caught up in mediocrity". All Meghana wants is for people to get over being lazy and take charge of their own lives, ultimately initiating a change that starts at the individual level.
