He delves deep into each script, dissecting its essence, unraveling the intricacies of the plot, and assessing the significance of his character within the narrative. Ayub's eye to discern ensures that every role he takes on is not just a portrayal but an embodiment of the character's essence, which contributes meaningfully to the storytelling canvas. In his quest for artistic exploration, Ayub's interests span a diverse array of genres. From slice-of-life dramas to pulse-pounding action thrillers, he yearns to challenge himself and delve into uncharted territories. Whether it's the adrenaline-fueled action sequences reminiscent of Akshay Kumar's cinematic ventures or the gritty realism of Anurag Kashyap's dramas, Ayub seeks roles that push the boundaries of his creativity and showcase his range as an actor. He also looks forward to sport-dramas, biopics and dark comedy/ thriller. After all, isn’t challenging oneself exactly what acting is all about? Saqib knows how to push himself and how! When asked about how he prepares to step into the shoes of the character he seeks to play, Saqib tells us that he adopts a rigorous approach to preparation. Whether it's undergoing physical transformations or immersing himself in the psyche of his roles, he leaves no stone unturned in his pursuit of authenticity. From shedding pounds to embody the essence of an addict in a forthcoming project to embracing the physicality of a "common man" in one of his movies, Ayub's dedication to his craft knows no bounds and it’s very much visible in the portrayal of his character in various movies, such as Brahmastra and Bambai Meri Jaan . When asked about how he deals with creating a balance between the characters he plays and his real life, he talks about how imperative it is to create proper boundaries. Despite the immersive nature of his roles, Saqib maintains a delicate balance between reel and real life. When queried about the psychological impact of his characters, Ayub highlights the importance of compartmentalisation. He emphasizes the need to immerse oneself fully in a character's mindset while preserving one's individuality and mental well-being. He also throws light upon how movies are never shot in a linear manner. It’s all about bringing the puzzle pieces into a state of perfection! Akin to an ode to the Unsung Heroes: Saqib also talks about how the writers of the movie ought to be celebrated to a huge extent. In an industry where actors often steal the spotlight, Ayub extends his admiration to the unsung heroes behind the scenes – the writers. He acknowledges their indispensable contribution to the cinematic tapestry, advocating for greater recognition and appreciation of their craft beyond awards and accolades. A film without a good writer can never be a good film, and it’s high time people acknowledge that! As Ayub reflects on the actors who inspire him, he pays tribute to stalwarts like the versatile maverick from the south, whose transformative performances have left an indelible mark on the cinematic landscape. He also honors the legacy of the late Irrfan Khan , whose nuanced portrayals continue to inspire generations of actors. Additionally, he also expresses his admiration for Christian Bale , whose unparalleled dedication to his craft sets a benchmark for excellence in Hollywood. In a realm where talent reigns supreme, Saqib Ayub stands as a beacon of artistry and dedication. With each role he undertakes, he not only entertains but also enlightens, breathing life into characters and narratives that linger in the hearts and minds of audiences. As he continues to traverse the cinematic landscape with grace and grit, his journey serves as a testament to the transformative power of storytelling and the enduring legacy of those who dare to dream and defy conventions. - Fashion In The 19th Century
Fashion In The 19th Century by Himanshi Sharma Fashion In The 19th Century 17 February 2023 FASHION Advertisement Fashion is something inevitable and had existed always. A fashion of a particular era not only tells us about the clothes people wore but also help us identify their life style, the climatic conditions and even politics of that particular era. The fashion in the 19 th century can not only be described as beautiful but also as extraordinary and mind blowing. We all might have watched period dramas or movies such as the Jane Austen’s classic “Pride and Prejudice” and the famous “Bridgerton” show on Netflix. The clothing of the casts on this show gives us an idea about the fashion in the 19 th century. Now, let us see them in detail. The 19 th century can be divided into two eras namely the pre-Victorian era or early era (1800-1839) and the Victorian era (1840-1899) Early era (1800-1839): Women’s Fashion: The most notable and popular fashion or trend in the era are the empire waist, low square neck, and skirts which or either plain or in folds. This era women preferred mostly pastel colors and white was predominant among them. The works on their dress are mostly subtle such as small frills or embroidery at the borders. The skirts are made in a way that helps them to move quickly. They used Cotton and other similar fabric for their dress. Corsets are not preferred and they are replaced by jackets and shawls which matched their attire. The women mostly used these shawls during winter season. The fabrics used are cashmere, muslin and other ones. The cloak was most famous and almost every woman of the century owned a cloak. The women had put their hair in short curls, which are inspired, from the Greeks and Romans. What is empire waist? It is a waistline, which is present just below the bust. That is the waist is raised around two to 3 inches from the actual waistline. Men’s Fashion: Men in the 18 th century used to wear jewelries and wigs, which are gone on this era. Even the skirts and puffed trousers were avoided. Men shifted to tight trousers that are up to the length of their knee. They started wearing coats with padded shoulders. The coats were reduced to be around the length of their waists, which is a change from the previous long ones. Victorian era (1840-1899): Women’s fashion: In this period, the corsets are back along with the multiple layering of the women’s skirt. The clothing is heavy which made it hard for the women to move quickly once again. The dresses are very long that they touched the floors. The neckline was broad, deep and shoulder revealing. They had a natural waistline and a “V” pointed bodice right below it. The sleeves are made to be big, puffy and balloon like. The women also wore shawls, capes around their shoulders. Bonnets and hats are also famous during this era. Another famous accessory of this era is the ballerina type shoes of the women. The women started portioning their hair in the middle or side. They also put them in a bun in the back or near the ears with one or two curls hanging on their face. Men’s fashion: There are only minor changes and a bit addition in this period when compared to the previous one. Men started wearing different colored coats and trousers. The coats are of dark colors whereas the trousers are of mild colors. The shirts are mostly white. They started wearing full-length trousers. The lengths of the coats are increased up to their knees. Vests and Jackets are also introduced. - Suhani Shah Celebrating 25 years in Mentalism
Suhani Shah Celebrating 25 years in Mentalism by Naisargi Devdher Suhani Shah Celebrating 25 years in Mentalism 2 September 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement Even before understanding what fame and glamour is, a child understood what magic is! It was 26 years ago, that a 6 year old Suhani saw a ‘magic show’ and dreamt of becoming a magician. This marks her 25th year performing mentalism, as she still carries the charm and innocence that 7 year old Suhani did. Talking of it, there is a lot of glamour, a factor of ‘wow’, self-love and over confidence associated with the career transition. To which, she elaborately explains, “As a child, I kept talking of magic and fortunately, my parents honestly were extremely considerate about it. You know, my father spent 6 months looking for a tutor and basically putting across magic as my educational development, because somewhere my inclination towards magic was visible. And that was the age when I didn’t even understand what glamour or for a fact even fame is! So when my first show was grandly put about, the then Chief Minister attended it. That was exactly how my career began. So for me on a personal level, fame has been a part of my career, so has glamour, it existed then, it persists now, so never does overconfidence seem to be very much an issue to say.” Putting it simply, she brought about the point of growing up with talent. Queerly, to think of, does a child always begin with imagining that she would be a part of a mega industry rather than just performing for herself? That anticipation of where she’s being lead to marks a crazy confusion in the life of an artist. “To be completely honest, yes, I did think that the talent is leading me to some place grand. I could foresee my career with magic, art and what not around. However, I truly did never expect this transition, you know! I did never know I would be assimilated with a streaming, or filming culture. That for me has not just given me a new hypo graph to live up to but also, something I truly wanted to do. Having youthful energy, I wrote books over mentalism and magic, I had art shows to perform but none of it made me as satisfied as being a part of this industry makes me. That is the exact meaning for transition and unknowingly yet beautiful, I get pushed and mingled in the industry.” When the transition of career happens to be natural, there are a lot of changes one needs to adapt to. There was a demand for the talent I held, but it was never a career that I would want to perform. Thus till the pandemic hit, I really didn’t think of it. However, when the pandemic hit, the work stopped, I was barred from home and that was exactly when I began with YouTube streaming and making videos. So the transition was never sudden, it just happened slowly. I had to adapt, accept and identify that I was away from the stage, I had screens to connect with people to, and performing live had a very different sense. That adaption was actually challenging because it brought me to a stage where I had to recognise my career scope and recognize what exactly was to be done. You know, I didn’t go to school, I didn’t go to college, I was just working all the while, and now I was here where I had to sit and just do nothing. That was more challenging for me. So I remember, starting off with an online show, ‘Magic being performed online’, that somewhat pulled me through the pandemic dilemma. While streaming on YouTube was the exact game changer I was looking for because looking back, I was having fun doing it. Little did I know that it was the beginning of a novel spectrum of my career!” All this while, Suhani mentioned the Pandemic to be a revolution in all senses However, through all of this happening, there is a high doubt of where art forms are leading to when it comes to India, because there's a lot to do with glamour here as well. “A bit contrary to what you said, India is filled with art forms with diverse roots. It’s not even similar, there is a difference in totality. And truly, in my understanding, we are always attracted to glamour. You see a beautiful rose, its glamour, desire of living in a house I glamour, and that will always be appreciated but here it’s more about how you understand art to be. Because art is also glamorous, art also is beautiful and that goes hand in hand. The window to the world during the pandemic was their phones. People were seeing direction, cinematography and all of it came from art. And whatever the screens passed on to people was art. People eventually started valuing art, realising that when nothing works, and its art that they can rely on.” Mentioning the importance of art and growing up with it, there is a lot of superstitious association with magic. Dealing with which stands out from any coaching. “Since childhood, I was looked at as a ‘DEVI’, saying I can heal everything possible. Earlier, people confused me with a musician and there I had to sort out the exact meaning of a magician, after which, a lot of people came to me asking me to heal their illnesses or asking me solve their problems. This was exactly what shifted me away from any sort of superstitious association since childhood. I give ted talks speaking against superstitions. Hence I always say, ‘I CANNOT READ MINDS, I CAN CREATE AN ILLUSION OF READING MIND’.” Just adding illusions cannot definitely define it as magic. However, according to Suhani, Guzaarish is a movie that utilises pieces of magical elements. That’s exactly where she leaves you with… Wonder how to deal with magic, because every potential of yours is magic if you know how to use it!! - Kian Barazandeh: Inspiring confidence with his awesomeness and positive energy
Kian Barazandeh: Inspiring confidence with his awesomeness and positive energy By Aadhya Venkatesh Kian Barazandeh: Inspiring confidence with his awesomeness and positive energy 30 July 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement Actor and Model Kian Barazandeh ventured into acting and modelling without intending to do so. “I was scouted over one-decade ago by a daring agent that believes in my talent and the look,” said Kian. Within a few years, Kian achieved heights that most models dream of. He was named IMTA’s “Model of the Year” and won some of the most significant modelling partnerships in the world. He aims to be the Ultimate Super-model and is motivated by the fear of being average. “All my life, I have dared to go beyond the possible,” he said. Kian wishes to blur the boundaries between the impossible and what is possible and has coined the term #possimpossible . Kian’s favourite collaboration was with Fashion Magazine NYC. Being selected as the face of Fashion Magazine NYC was a Himalayan achievement for the actor/model. Being selected was a fruit of his hard work and was a massive milestone in his career. Having worked with many high-profile luxury brands, Kian uses various model/photographer-finding websites to gain skills and experiences. He has collaborated with multiple luxury brands such as Bentley, Vertu, Chopard, 209 Mare, Rachini, and Dolce & Gabbana, amongst many others. He was selected as the style influencer for Dolce & Gabbana. “Think of Dolce & Gabbana, and you think of sunny Sicily, small Italian villages, big Italian families and big designs,” he said. D&G is one of Kian’s favourite designers, and draws a lot of his fashion inspiration from the brand. “Part of your brand is how you present yourself, including fashion.” Kian believes that playing with shapes helps one stand out as most pants and dressed come in standard styles. Kian was scouted by one of the biggest fashion modelling agencies, Independent Management, based in Milan, Italy. Independent Management now represents him as both an agency and a mother agency. Because of his job, Kian works in both Europe and Dubai. “If I have to choose one, I will choose Europe and Milan, Italy over UAE,” he said. He chooses Milan because it is one of the top fashion cities in the world. Milan also is a significant breakthrough market for many new models, and a successful stint there has benefitted many models throughout their careers. It is “a relatively inexpensive city with a wonderful culture, amazing food, and warm people.” When asked about a fashion ritual, Kian said that he always makes sure to bring essentials. These include nude undergarments. “I believe a model appearance: skin, Hair and... always must be photoshoot ready. This means the magic happens in your daily life and lifestyle routine.” He believes consistency is the most important component while working towards your goals. It helps you adapt and form habits faster. Kian deems motivation to be a driving force towards action. “You are going to be different tomorrow. Stop feeling stuck. - Madhura Naik talks about the Life of an Actress
Madhura Naik talks about the Life of an Actress by Aparajita Jaiswal Madhura Naik talks about the Life of an Actress 30 June 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement In a freewheel chat with Neha Pande and Aparajita Jaiswal, Madhura Naik shares her journey in the acting industry. She is a brilliant actress, model and proud brand owner who has appeared in popular shows such as Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani, Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon, Hum Ne Li Hai- Shapath, Tumhari Pakhi, Tu Sooraj Main Saanjh Piyaji and many more. She is an extremely hardworking, optimistic and creatively talented sensation who is not just an amazing actress but also someone who is an inspiration for the youth. Born in Indore, Madhya Pradesh; Madhura has been in the industry since 2007. Wanting to first be a Genetic engineer, Madhura moved to Bombay and has a degree in economics and Law. “Being an actress was never planned for me. I got discovered in my college campus for Universal and one thing led to the other.” For Madhura hardwork is the key ingredient for anyone. “I believe that every role I have played has had a memory for me. I was attached to Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani because we became a family on set and all of us are still great friends. It was basically coming on the set and having fun. I was just a kid, probably seventeen or eighteen, while shooting it.” “From 2020 a typical day in my life starts with washing vessels and cooking in the morning. I work during the day. In the evening I like to concentrate on my fitness and at night I am usually chilling with my friends” Madhura says. “ I had to learn how to cook on a stove for ‘Tu Sooraj Main Saanjh Piyaji’. “I love cooking and I think in the lockdown I discovered cooking all over again” she told us. Madhura has been working for ‘The Ghost Thesis’ for an Amazon Web Series which will be released so keep an eye out for that. “When it comes to T.V I’ve worked with Star Plus, UTV, Sony channel, Life OK, Star One. It has been a great experience working with these brands and production houses. As far as fashion brands are concerned one of my most memorable experiences is working with Baume Mercier in Paris. I was very young when I was living in Paris so that would always hold a special place in my heart,” she said. Madhura is an extremely creative individual. “I like to create new things. The monotony gets to me sometimes so I feel it is important to reinvent myself every now and then. That is something that is constant about me and keep up with the upcoming trends and keep learning new things.” Madhura also usually tends to improvise slightly when she cannot relate to the dialogues of the script. As a kid Madhura aspired to be a genetic engineer but after she ended up in Mumbai she was discovered on her college campus for a music video with Universal and one thing led to another. “There is a huge difference working as a tv actress and a movie actress,” she says. “For tv sometimes you end up working fourteen hours a day. Films usually wrap up in fourth five days or sixty days whereas tv series go on for years on end. It’s a completely different ball game on tv because you have to put in a lot of hardwork and time. Sometimes the content you’re shooting is scheduled to release the very next day so you’re almost on real time. The pressure is far more on tv.” Madhura stresses that hardwork is the key point for success in this industry. “I wish I had guidance as to what projects to pick up and which projects to refuse when I was starting off in this industry because I did not have a career plan. I wish today if I was starting off, I wish I had somebody to guide me on which projects to concentrate on and how to go about films as I did not have a film background.” Madhura has created her own brand Lady M as she has always been inclined towards fashion. When asked what inspired her to dip her feet into fashion and creating her own brand she said, “I always like to dress well and see others dressed well and I feel it inspires you as a person when you’re having a bad day but when you step into the right shoes and clothes you feel really good about yourself. Fashion is not just about wearing good clothes but feeling good while you wear them. I wanted to also introduce new trends to my close friends and the actors but also it is also for the masses. I would love to also dip my feet into the makeup industry but fashion is more my thing than makeup.” Every role I’ve played has had a memory for me. Madhura did an advertisement in association with Bindass tv for PETA with Ashmit Patel against caging birds. “It was for a very good cause and I am completely against caging birds because their first instinct is to fly and it is very sad to have their first instinct being taken away from them. I feel sad seeing birds in cages and I would still like to talk about this because I want people to be aware of what they are doing when they are caging birds. The response to this ad was good and I feel like at least my fans would listen to me and not cage birds.” Madhura continues to work with PETA. “Whenever I see an animal suffering on the roads I always call up PETA and the team is very kind to take them in and take care of them. Madhura has played both roles, protagonist and antagonist. “There’s a vast difference while playing the two roles. When you’re playing the antagonist you have so much to explore because the character has so many shades but when you’re playing a positive role there is just one boring side to the character. I personally prefer playing negative roles. Acting is all about how you train your mind. You just have to become that person so I do not think it is hard for any actor to pretend to be someone else and be in a character’s shoes.” The most challenging part of the job, Madhura says, are the long hours because you don’t have a life and balancing your work life and professional life is crucial. “From morning to evening you’re engaged in the shoot and then when you’re back you’re so tired that you sleep and the next morning when you wake up you’re again gearing up for the shoot. People really need to know the hard work that goes behind the glamour. They just see the glamour and the exotic destinations. What most people do not realise is that while shooting we do not have time to explore cities even while shooting in Paris or London. I start my day in front of the camera and end my day in front of the camera.” Her biggest inspiration is the hard work that Beyoncé puts into her work. “I always find Beyoncé to be a big inspiration because of the hard work that she puts into doing anything that she does, the process of creating from scratch to releasing the final video. She is always on her toes, always working round the clock and she makes it look effortless. She inspires her team also to work that hard so the blood and sweat that goes into her work is a true inspiration,” she says. “As an actress I find Deepika Padukone to be an inspiration as she always gets her characters point on and as a model I find Bella hadid an inspiration as Victoria’s Secret models put in a lot of effort into their bodies. The kind of training that they go through before going on the ramp is not easy. They play all sorts of sports and are grilled to have the perfect bodies. They follow a strict diet and I know how difficult it is to stay without water before your shoot. The fashion industry is quite cut throat.” Hardwork according to Madhura is not the only thing that is the key to this industry. It is a combination of hardwork, talent and luck. Some people are lucky enough to land in the right place at the right time and find the right role. That is something I feel is destiny. I believe in destiny. No matter how hard work, destiny and timing has to be just right.” She feels that the one person that keeps pushing you forward is yourself. “The toughest time I faced was when I got into a road accident while shooting pyaar ki ek kahani. I dislocated my shoulder and did not have enough time to recover before being back on set. For three months I had to shoot with a broken shoulder and my entire harness on.” Madhura says that it is tough playing characters that you cannot relate to. “This industry has been kind with the roles and achievements I have had till date so just being able to stand up on my own two feet and the financial stability and freedom has made me who i am today. I will always be grateful for that.” “I just want to inspire people and fill their minds with positivity. I want to tell people not to take life so seriously because all you have is right now and life is not meant to be taken so seriously. Just enjoy who you are today.” This quarantine Madhura discovered herself as an artist. “I had a lot of time to read, sketched and rediscovered myself as an artist. I wrote, I sang, I read and it was a phase where I could bring back all my creativity. I personally like this book called Alice by Paulo Coelho. Madhura continues to be an inspiration to our youth with her zealous personality, her creativity and her work. She brings in positivity and wishes her fans safety and to enjoy their life. Her most aspiration quality being that she has always reinvented herself for the better and continues to add creative aspects to her work and personality. - Women Empowerment A mere concept or a real Concern
SOCIETY by Aparajita Jaiswal Women Empowerment A mere concept or a real Concern 16 July 2021 SOCIETY Advertisement Advertisement In India, this socially viable topic catches many eyeballs on discussion forums, political rallies and media galleries. We have often seen philanthropists, social entities or de crème de la crème of the society embellishing their views to fight for the profoundly rooted theories of Gender Equality, Equal participation, democratic decision making and most specifically Women Emancipation. But the recorded statistics provoke us to unleash the peel of these heated discussions which might sound very promising but lack the realistic angle. For instance, in many parts of our country sex ratio has dropped to fewer than 850 females per 1000 males. India is ranked 132 out of 148 countries on Gender Inequality Index as per the 2013 Global Human Development Report. The crimes against women fly directly against orchestrating women empowerment in India. A report on the crime against women by National Crime Records Bureau justifies the statement with some alarming facts and figures: Crime Head – % Variation in 2012 over 2011 Rape (Sec.376 IPC) – 3% Kidnapping & Abduction (Sec.363 to 373 IPC) – 7.6 % Torture (Sec.498-A IPC) – 7.5 % Dowry Death (Sec. 302/304 IPC) – 4.5 % Molestation (Sec.354 IPC) – 5.5 % Sexual Harassment (Sec. 509 IPC) – 7.0% Importation of Girls (Sec 366 – B IPC) – 26.3% This ironical phase of Women Empowerment is the central protagonist of our concern. We have a sense that holistic development cannot be imagined without the vigorous participation of women but like a silent admirer we are calmly supporting the fragmentary concept of Marginalization. No matter what our esteemed leaders said or done. But women have always been marginalized and ostracized as undesirable members of our society. No forum has been constructed to rationalize the Tag of “Second Citizen” which we bestow to this clique of women. Societal prism gives a stereotypical account of Empowerment which defines- “Empowerment” is the mere craftsmanship of an environment where women can make independent decisions on their personal development as well as shine as equals in society. But this definition does not channelize a concrete route which could actually lead women to this illusory environment. In spite of having epic discussion on this topic, this marginalized group is deprived of the mainstay of Empowerment i.e. Pride of Self Accomplishment and Self Supporting. Often Empowerment is seen as a force from the outer world like NGOs, Social groups or Govt. who stretches their hands to this neglected clan, but this disquieting issue cannot be faded without encouraging and developing skills for, Self Sufficiency, with a spotlight on eliminating the future need of any superficial assistance. For instance, instead of equipping them with peripheral aid, this band of victims must be encouraged to create their own non-profits organisation, using the rationale that only these marginalized people, themselves, can know their own people need most, that control of the organization must be centralized in their hands only. If women were empowered to take dynamic partaking in the organized sectors of the society, the possibility for economic growth becomes perceptible. Empowering women in developing countries is critical to curtail global poverty since women represent most of the world’s poor population. Eliminating a significant part of the nation’s workforce on the sole basis of gender can have detrimental effects on the economy of that nation. In addition, female participation in counsels, groups, and businesses is seen to aggrandize competence. For a general idea on how an empowered women can impact a framework monetarily, a study found that of Fortune 500 companies, “those with more women board directors had significantly higher financial returns, including 53% higher returns on equity, 24% higher return on sales and 67% higher returns on invested capital (OECD, 2008).This study shows the impression that women can have all round economic benefits of a Co. If implemented strategically on a global scale, the inclusion of women in the formal workforce can provide an edge to the economic productivity of a nation. But as discussed in the initial episodes of this article, there are several challenges that are currently plaguing the issues of women’s rights in India. The native goal of empowerment can only be achieved by targeting these issues. Studies of this paradigm say – Education is the core element that can either make or mar the authenticity of empowerment. While the country has grown from leaps and bounds since its independence where education is concerned, the gap between women and men is ruthless. While 82.14% of adult men are educated, only 65.46% of adult women are known to be literate in India. Not only is an illiterate woman damsels in distress but aloof from the errands of this cosmetic world. Additionally, the norms of culture that title the man as the alpha and omega of family decisions are gradually spoiling the society of the country. Poverty is considered the greatest threat to peace in the world, and due to hopeless poverty, women are exploited as domestic helps and wives whose incomes are usurped by the man of the house. Even the horrifying reality of sex slaves are a direct outcome of poverty only. The third pal of these two unpromising causes is Health & Safety. The health & safety concern of women are paramount for the wellbeing of a country, and most importantly a vital factor in gauging the empowerment of women in a country. However there are threatening statistics where maternal healthcare is concerned In its 2009 report, UNICEF came up with shocking figures on the status of Indian mothers in India. The maternal mortality report of India stands at 301 per 1000, with as many as 78000 women in India dying of childbirth complications in that year. We can’t deny that there are several series of programmes that have been set into motion by the Govt. and several NGOs in the country to bridge up the dead pan gap between these gender conflicts but these external bodies can only conceal the problem. If we really want to get liberated of this dual world in terms of Gender, then, the strapping pole of Marginalization must be shunned and men oriented fiefdom syndrome must be broken into unbreakable pieces. In short, Empowerment is not an ostentatious or grandiloquence portrayal of outer self but an honest urge to get unshackled from the rotten dogmas of society and earn the power of “Self”. The Shoe Faktory Success Story: Ishpreet Singh Gujral’s Bold Business Leap By Sakshi Batra The Shoe Faktory Success Story: Ishpreet Singh Gujral’s Bold Business Leap 27 March 2025 FASHION Advertisement A Twist Of Fate: From Civil Services To Sneaker Culture What happens when a civil service aspirant with dreams of serving the nation takes a sharp turn towards entrepreneurship? You get the fascinating story of Ishpreet Singh. Hailing from a business-oriented family known for their automobile import-export enterprise, Ishpreet’s journey was expected to follow tradition. But driven by curiosity and the desire to create something of his own, he ventured into the world of sneakers and built a brand that is now synonymous with quality and authenticity. His story is one of perseverance, innovation, and passion. The Road Less Taken: From Prelims To Premium Sneakers After completing his MBA from Welingkar Institute of Management, Mumbai , Ishpreet Singh once aspired to build a career in civil services. For two years, he rigorously prepared in Delhi and even qualified for the prelims. However, failing to progress to the next rounds left him disheartened, especially as he saw his peers successfully securing positions and jobs. The pressure to do something worthwhile was immense. His father, a businessman, suggested he join the family’s automobile business. But Ishpreet’s heart was elsewhere. With determination to create his own path, he explored different avenues. What started as an interest in watches soon evolved into something much bigger, thanks to one fateful internet search that introduced him to the fascinating world of sneaker culture. The Birth Of A Brand: The Shoe Faktory’s Humble Beginnings Realizing the immense potential of sneakers in the market, Ishpreet began researching sneaker trends from the US. He quickly recognized a gap in the Indian market and decided to capitalize on it by importing sneakers and reselling them according to market demand. As he expanded his network, he gained a deep understanding of order shipments and logistics. Thus, in 2016, The Shoe Faktory was born. From fulfilling his first single order to managing hundreds at once, Ishpreet’s journey was nothing short of phenomenal. His family, although cautious, stood by him. His father set a challenge: if Ishpreet could earn a specified amount through his business, he would have the family’s complete support. With sheer dedication, Ishpreet not only met but surpassed those expectations. What’s In A Name? Story Behind The Shoe Faktory Interestingly, the name ‘The Shoe Faktory’ was conceived casually between Ishpreet and his younger brother. Despite being irrelevant to their actual business model, the name grew popular, especially as celebrities started endorsing their brand. By the time they considered changing it, The Shoe Faktory had already become a recognized name with a solid reputation in the market. Battling The Odds: Challenges Along The Way Every success story has its hurdles, and Ishpreet’s journey was no different. One of the biggest challenges he faced was shortly one month before his marriage when a shipment containing lakhs worth of products got stuck at customs. The situation was worsened by heavy rains, and his repeated attempts to resolve the issue initially yielded no results. However, with divine grace and valuable family connections, the problem was eventually sorted out. The Shoe Faktory Edge: What Makes Them Stand Out “The Shoefaktory isn’t just about selling sneakers, it’s about providing a premium experience”. Ishpreet emphasizes quality and customer trust above everything else. Unlike many other sellers who rely on third-party importers, he imports directly, which makes the product more cost-effective, saving them from haywire third-party agents commissions. He acknowledges that while competitors exist, many of them resort to selling replicas or “first copies.” Ishpreet is staunchly against promoting such practices, believing they diminish the value of authentic products. For discerning customers, he shares helpful pointers to differentiate originals from counterfeits, focusing on weight, stitching, insole, shoe box, and overall condition. The Big Break: The Shoe Faktory’s Bollywood Connection The moment Ishpreet truly felt he had “ made it ” was when dancer and producer Remo D'Souza approached him to become the official shoe partner for the movie Street Dancer 3D . Seeing “The Shoefaktory’s name on the big screen before the movie began was an unforgettable moment of pride for him and his family”, Ishpreet mentioned. Looking Ahead: What’s Next For Ishpreet And The Shoefaktory As trends evolve, Ishpreet predicts a colourful and playful palette for sneakers , moving away from the limited options of the past. His message to fellow entrepreneurs is simple yet powerful : Be consistent, know your approach towards clients, and always strive to bring the best out of yourself. The Unstoppable Journey Of Ishpreet Singh With unwavering dedication and an eye for quality, Ishpreet Singh Gujral has redefined sneaker culture in India. The Shoe Faktory stands as a beacon of authenticity, passion, and innovation, proving that success comes to those who dare to dream and work relentlessly to turn those dreams into reality. - The History Of Heels: Explained
The History Of Heels: Explained by Aishwarya The History Of Heels: Explained 4 November 2022 FASHION Advertisement For the last 3 centuries, high heels are extensively thought to be a women’s vogue. Seen everywhere from the runways to daily work attire, adding several elevations to a woman’s height is often thought of as the key to attachment associate ensemble along. All the same, as addicts of fashion at intervals and out of doors the trade take strides to interrupt the gender binary in attire, multiple men are noticed sporting high heels. By clutches footwear that has become such an associate picture illustration of female fashion, their selection is far dubbed “ground-breaking” or “gender-bending.” Curiously enough, the invention of high heels began specifically for men. The initial notable kind of heels dates back to the 10th- century in Persia. Male warriors riding horseback used heels to secure their feet within the stirrups and provide them additional leverage while fighting. The origin of high-heels is derived back to the fifteenth century in Persia when warriors wore them to secure their legs in stirrups. Persian settlers brought the shoe trend to Europe, where men and nobles wore them to look tall and fearful. Because the high heel came to indicate power and military artistry, it conjointly changed into a show of wealth, as solely those with wealth might afford horses. This symbolism reemerges in France during the 1600s during the reign of King Sun King. The Master of Versailles used footwear to differentiate each category and preference of the military. In 1670, he declared that solely members of the noble category might wear heels, and also he solely allowed his favourite courtiers to wear red( his colour of choice). The most international and perhaps the oldest shoe story considers a righteous woman whose shoes elevate her to a progressive rank- Cinderella. The story of the ‘slipper test’ is derived from the first century in Egypt. This tale and many more like them, advocate the picture of slippers as status and represent the importance, power and magic of shoes. By the end of the French Revolution, though, high heels were thought of as too feminine and customarily forgotten by men in Europe, yet, across the pool, because the yank West began to draw in new settlers, the wrangler, arguably associated and outlined by his attire, was thought of as the epitome of masculinity and masculine pride. Most wrangler kicks featured an associate inverted spherical heel referred to as a Cuban heel( representing the footwear of ancient Flamenco prom) and were a necessity for staying upright while moving long distances on horseback. Despite this, heels outside the wrangler setting were typically still thought to be women’s shoes. It had been not till the 1960s, once the rock group jaded the “ Beatle Boots ” — associated with early replication of Chelsea kicks — that the heel was reinvited into menswear. Rock- n- roll teams of the late-twentieth century like Aerosmith and Mötley Crue embraced such tamed designs in addition, whereas glam gem artists like Kiss and David Bowie selected for alternative ostentatious renditions. Unlike the low Cuban heels of'70s hair bands, Bowie and his stage persona Ziggy romanticism gravitated towards daring platforms, stilettos, or typically improved heels all of that were, at the time, substitutable with women's fashion. Whereas cultures like drag queen communities and theatre culture throughout this point had earlier standardized men carrying heels and alternative historically womanly clothes, Bowie's look brought gender subversive fashion to the thought. In the 2010s, the come of the Chelsea bang in convenience wardrobes was, erstwhile once more, met was respectable attention. Though, as designers still mix menswear and womenswear, the androgynous lines around apparel and accessories have lightened in their harshness. Heels improved and flashier than a straightforward black Chelsea kick square measure additional common for men than in previous decades. Brands have used them as a part of their menswear collections, and they have so established their approach to streetwear. Such as apparel, the step-down of heels as a "woman's shoe" continues to unfold as attire becomes lesser tied to one's personal identity and sex. As men hit red carpets and magazine covers in robes, there's no reason they ought to not have a pleasant few heels to accompany them.
