  • Embracing Darkness, Celebrating Light: Amjad Khalil’s Beyond Black Couture Collection

Embracing Darkness, Celebrating Light: Amjad Khalil’s Beyond Black Couture Collection By Anushka Sharma Embracing Darkness, Celebrating Light: Amjad Khalil’s Beyond Black Couture Collection 4 September 2024 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement In the heart of Tripoli, where the Mediterranean waves kiss the Libyan shores, a powerful narrative unfolds. Amjad Khalil , the visionary designer behind the AK brand, is set to unveil his sixth couture collection, “Beyond Black”—a collection that’s not just clothing, but a poignant reflection of personal loss, transformation, and the indomitable spirit of resilience. This Fall/Winter 2024 collection isn't just about fashion; it’s a narrative woven with threads of sorrow, strength, and rebirth. After losing both of his parents to cancer in 2022, Amjad found himself plunged into the depths of grief, a place where creativity felt distant and passion seemed lost. Yet, from this darkness, he embarked on a deeply personal journey—a journey that would reignite his spark and give birth to “Beyond Black.” The collection is a tribute to the emotional rollercoaster that many experience after the loss of a loved one. Each piece tells a chapter of this journey—from the overwhelming darkness to the gradual return of light. The 15 couture dresses and one bridal gown in this collection are more than garments; they are stories, each echoing a mood, a memory, or a moment from Amjad’s own life. From Shadows to Stardust: A Saga of Colors and Textures Amjad’s color palette is nothing short of a visual metaphor. He begins with deep, somber hues—blacks and dark metallics—accented by crystal teardrops that symbolize the profound sadness he felt. These initial pieces capture the raw, unfiltered emotions of grief. But as the collection progresses, so too does the color story, transitioning from the shadows of black to the shimmer of metallic gold, silver, and maroon, and finally to the soft pastels and luminous whites. The crescendo is a breathtaking bridal gown, representing the peace and light found at the end of the tunnel—a symbol of hope and new beginnings. The Art of Craftsmanship: Patterns and Fabrics that Speak Volumes Amjad’s approach to pattern-making and fabric selection further enriches the narrative. His use of curves and sharp cuts speaks to the inner conflict many feel after a significant loss, while the integration of new corset techniques symbolizes the strength that comes from within. Velvet, silk chiffon, organza, lace, and metallic fabrics are the canvas on which he paints his story. The richness of velvet conveys a sense of luxury and depth, while the delicate transparency of organza reveals vulnerability. Lace adds a touch of strength intertwined with elegance, and metallic fabrics inject a dash of boldness. The inclusion of stones and intricate embroidery, especially with Swarovski crystals, adds a final, sparkling touch—like teardrops that glisten in the light. A Collection with a Message: From the Heart to the World At Large Amjad Khalil doesn’t just want you to wear these clothes; he wants you to feel them. The “Beyond Black” collection is for every woman who has faced heartbreak, loss, or any dark period in her life. It’s a reminder that through creativity and self-expression, we can all find our way back to the light. This is more than just a fashion show—it’s an experience, a journey through the stages of grief and healing. Amjad invites you to join him on this journey at the grand launch event in Dubai on September 1st, 2024, during Dubai Fashion Week . Step into the darkness, emerge into the light, and discover the “Beyond Black” collection—a celebration of life, love, and the resilience of the human spirit. • Kavya Thapar And Her Versatile Acting Career That Cuts Across Regional Lines

Kavya Thapar And Her Versatile Acting Career That Cuts Across Regional Lines by Aparajita Jaiswal Kavya Thapar And Her Versatile Acting Career That Cuts Across Regional Lines 12 February 2023 COVER STORIES Advertisement Kavya Thapar is an Indian actress and model who works in Telugu, Tamil as well as Hindi films. Having an illustrious career in both film and fashion, she talked to us about her upcoming projects, her big break, her fashion mantra and some other things that tell us about the versatile person that she is. Kavya was first asked about her “big break” in her career. She highlighted the years 2017 and 2018 as some of the most defining years of her career. She replied “ I started doing ads in 2017 and got my first Telugu movie in October 2017 and my first Tamil and Hindi movies by 2018” Here, Kavya is talking about the movie Ee Maaya Peremito , which was a Telugu language movie that came out in 2018. Kavya played the role of Sheetal Jain in the film, who is the daughter of a rich businessperson. Having worked both in the South and the North of India, Kavya seems to have enjoyed the best of both worlds in the Indian film industry. Carrying this assumption, we asked how she would describe her experience of working both in the South and in Bollywood. Her response met our expectations, when she said “Both the industries have a lot to offer and it’s been a very exciting and overwhelming experience for me. I’ve always been blessed to find amazing opportunities in both the industries and I’ve found some people who are extremely dear to me and are now family. Overall my experience has been nothing short of a blessing and I thank god and my Guruji every day for my journey.’ Her gratefulness for her success was indeed heart-warming. Kavya’s filmography spans across a wide variety of films by now, with distinct plots, genres, roles and of course, languages. Therefore, we had to ask her, which of her works was the closest to her heart. Interestingly, her reply was that she simply could not decide. “I don’t think I can be biased when it comes to my work. Every project I take up I believe in 100% and it’s like my baby.” We then asked her what her advice was for the numerous young women who are trying to get into her industry. The simplicity and authenticity of her advice impressed us, as she advised young aspirants to simply be themselves. She also emphasized hard-work and honesty, along with the right amount of faith and grace. “Don’t find easy ways and solutions. Be patient and keep going with a smile and a prayer.” she said. Kavya was also asked by us about any “fashion mantra” she followed, and would like to share. Her reply was quite amusing, while still being incredibly genuine and profound- a delicate combination indeed. “For me fashion is what my stylists suggest honestly. Otherwise personally I only seek maximum comfort. I believe clothes are made to fit us and we aren’t supposed to fit into clothes. Also size doesn’t matter so wear what you want when you want and how you want just be happy and comfortable. ” Finally, she told us about her upcoming projects. We discovered that 2023 is going to be quite a busy year for Kavya, as she is working on 3 movies down south (two in Tamil and one in Telugu). Without telling us too much and keeping us on the hook, she also mentioned that she has “something very exciting coming up” in Hindi on Amazon Prime. We can’t wait for whatever that might be and wish her the very best for her career. • SITTING = DANGER!

SITTING = DANGER! by Akash Khatri SITTING = DANGER! 1 October 2020 LIFESTYLE Advertisement We belong to the “Tech Age” where the magic happens at the tap of a finger. It has made our lives easier but it has led us to a sedentary lifestyle, everything good comes with a hidden bad. You’ll be sitting in a beautiful bubble of procrastination while others will rejoice the finishing prize of the race. “Sitting is the new smoking.” It’s an addiction which develops slowly and silently. While sitting down all day may seem harmless, you may be surprised by the negative impact it has on your health. Especially in the recent decades, the population has become increasingly sedentary, with many adults spending 70% or more of their waking hours sitting. Research suggests that only 21 per cent of adults are meeting the physical activity guidelines, while less than 5 per cent perform 30 minutes of physical activity per day. The American Academy of Pediatrics counsels parents to limit children’s screen time—television, DVDs, and video games—to no more than 2 hours per day. You never realize the presence of the “Sitting disease” unless you have foes disguised as family knocking on your front door. There is Mother Obesity, Father Cholesterol, Brother Stroke and Sister Diabetes; who will eventually tuck you to bed, in a cosy casket for eternity even before you realize. Research published in 2010 proves that there are several adverse effects such as: Low energy expenditure Slower metabolism Cardiovascular diseases Compromised posture Back and spine injuries Reduced social skills Loneliness or depression Metabolic Syndrome Chronic Pain ………. to name a few. Another study analyzed data collected over 15 years and found that sedentary lifestyles were associated with an increased risk of early death regardless of physical activity levels and mental health disorders. Stare at a donkey long enough and it also looks beautiful. Time flies fast but goes by faster while binge-watching three seasons straight of “Friends”, driving across the city, finger-licking the last pack of fiery Cheetos, typing the never-ending presentation your boss asked you, writing those thousand-page assignments, finishing the last bottle of Pinot Noir in the cellar, scrolling through posts of people turned bakers and artists or by simply staring at the whitewashed walls. It doesn’t matter if you sit but whether you get up or not. Fixing this might seem like gargantuan efforts at first but it’s all worth it at the end considering the welfare it gets along. Start with something simple initially. Walk to the grocery store instead of ordering it online, who knows you might meet a school mate along the way. Take the stairs instead of waiting for the stuck lift. Get on those running shoes and watch the beautiful sunrise, I promise it will be worth it. Start gardening – who wouldn’t want to wake up to a beautiful inflorescence. The American Heart Association considers general gardening to be in the category of moderate-intensity physical activity. Get up and walk around during television commercials. Invest in a standing desk at the workplace. Every drop makes an ocean. So go clean your messy rooms, organize your wardrobe, sweep those floors, put the clothes out to dry, hear the cuckoo sing, catch up on your Mom’s gossip, experiment in the kitchen and watch your family turn into food critics, make life long memories with your siblings, call those long-forgotten friends, read something new, learn the unknown, reorganize, experiment, invent – EXPLORE THE NEW “YOU”. #diabetes #stroke #obesity #workplace #walk #cholesterol #fixing #smoking #Sittingdisease #alarm SEARCH Ankita Malik: Empowering Change And Embracing Authenticity LIFESTYLE Juggling Two Worlds: The Inspiring Journey Of Kritika Goel LIFESTYLE Juggling Law And Fashion: The Inspirational Journey Of Riddhi Nahata, A Multifaceted Influencer LIFESTYLE Nikita Pawar: From Fashion Design To Digital Stardom LIFESTYLE Join Shruti Yogi On Her Enchanting Journey From Kumkum Bhagya To Wanderlust Saga LIFESTYLE POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement By Shriniwas Kodape IIT Bombay’s Mood Indigo: A Cultural Platform That Brings Youth Voices Together 17 December 2025 LIFESTYLE By Shriniwas Kodape Mood Indigo, IIT Bombay’s Iconic Celebration Of December 14 December 2025 LIFESTYLE By Shriniwas Kodape The Spa At The Urban Wellness Centre: Four Seasons Bangkok’s Sanctuary Where The Body Forgets The Noise 4 September 2025 LIFESTYLE By Anurag Sen Porsche Unveils The Next Generation 911 Cup: Precision, Power, And Purpose For 2026 24 August 2025 LIFESTYLE RELATED POSTS Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement

  • Top 10 Beaches In The World- All About Serenity & Tan

by Priti Sharma by Priti Sharma Top 10 Beaches In The World- All About Serenity & Tan 14 February 2023 TRAVEL Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement The globe is genuinely home to an incredible variety of magnificent beaches, each more breathtaking than the last, whether they are gifted with blindingly dazzling white sands or situated in the most exquisite setting possible. Some of them are located in the center of well-known cities, while others are hidden away on tropical islands or deep within national parks. These stunning beaches must be seen to be believed, whether they are surrounded by striking rock formations, rocky cliffs, or softly swaying palm palms. 10. Navagio Beach Navagio Beach and the bright blue seas that surround it surely present a stunning image, framed by dazzling white limestone cliffs that tower above its sandy coastline. The stunning beach, which is one of the most picturesque natural settings in all of Greece, lies on the Ionian Island of Zakynthos and is frequently featured in tourist publications. Ironically, Navagio Beach is only reachable by boat and is known as "Shipwreck Beach" due to the rusted wreckage of a ship that lays on its beaches. The beauty gets better and better as you get closer as you skim through the glistening waves towards the hidden cove. 9. The Baths The Baths are located on Virgin Gorda, the third-largest island of the British Virgin Islands, at its southernmost point. On the beach, massive granite stones are piled up and form stunning tunnels and grottoes that are open to the sea and flood during high tide. The striking impact is enhanced by the tropical palms that line the sandy beaches. 8. Tapuaetai A tiny islet in the Cook Islands' Aitutaki atoll is called Tapuaetai (One Foot Island). The Aitutaki lagoon is beautifully visible from there, and depending on the tide, you may stroll on a sandbank some distance away from Tapuaetai. At the World Travel Awards held in Sydney in June 2008, the beach received the title of "Australasia's Leading Beach." 7. Zlatni Rat Zlatni Rat, also known as the "Golden Horn," projects into the Adriatic and varies in length and shape with the wind, tide, and current. The serene port town of Bol is only a short distance from the white pebble beach, which is situated on the south shore of the Island of Brac. Due to its breathtaking surroundings and glistening turquoise seas, Zlatni Rat is one of Croatia's most well-known tourist sites and frequently appears on the covers of travel publications from all over the world. It was ranked among the top ten beaches in the world by Lonely Planet in 2009. 6. Oludeniz Oludeniz, a beach in southwest Turkey with the charmingly called Turquoise Coast, is becoming a more well-known destination as news of its enormous attractions spreads. Oludeniz, which means "dead sea," is home to some outstanding snorkeling and scuba diving because of its tranquil, clear waters and amazing marine life. Even while its large sandy beach is great for lounging, the stunning surroundings are worth investigating. The legendary "Blue Lagoon," surrounded by stunning mountains, is a must-see, and many tourists parachute down to enjoy the aerial view of the beach. 5. Trunk Bay On St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Trunk Bay is a beach that is part of a National Park. The National Geographic Society named it one of the world's most beautiful beaches, drawing throngs of cruise ship tourists. The beach's amenities include a snack bar, bathrooms and showers, a lifeguard, and—most famously—a coral reef snorkeling route. 4. Maya Bay Since having shot to fame in the 1999 film The Beach, Maya Bay in Thailand has been one of the most sought-after beaches in the world. Such was its popularity, however, that Thai authorities had to shut the beach in 2018 and limit the number of visitors to 2,000 a day to help protect and preserve the environment. Surrounded and sheltered by towering limestone cliffs, Maya Bay’s white sand beach and inviting waters make for one of the most stunning settings imaginable. Located on the island of Ko Phi Phi Le, which lies in the Andaman Sea, Maya Bay is a treat to visit. Visitors can enjoy kayaking, snorkeling, and scuba diving around the bay. 3. Whitehaven Beach It is simple to see why Whitehaven Beach in Queensland, Australia, is often listed as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. It spans about seven kilometers, with magnificent turquoise seas around its isolated bays and lagoons. It is home to some of the cleanest beaches on Earth. The beach receives comparatively few tourists as a result of its isolated position in the Whitsunday Islands. With no one else in sight, you may relax on the sand, go kayaking, or have a BBQ. Whitehaven Beach is located in the center of the Great Barrier Reef and is only reachable by seaplane, helicopter, or boat. 2. Tulum Tulum, which is located on Mexico's Caribbean coast, is home to one of the best-preserved Mayan ruins in the nation as well as one of its greatest beaches. The Mayan city of Coba originally used it as its main port. Tulum lacks the beauty of certain other well-known locations since it was constructed about 1200 AD when the Mayan civilization was already in decline. However, the backdrop of a tropical beach makes this one of Mexico's busiest tourist spots and a photographer or artist's paradise. 1. Anse Source D'Argent Anse Source D'Argent distinguishes out from the pack among the gorgeous and opulent beach resorts that Seychelles is known for. It is situated on the island of La Digue and is one of the most well-publicized beaches in the world. Anse Source D'Argent, is one of the best beaches in the world, with a winning combination of pink sand beaches, coconut palms, and big granite rocks dotting the coastline. It truly is an island paradise unmatched by any other, with the warm seas of the Indian Ocean lapping at its shores, clean and unspoiled nature all about you, and exotic birds fluttering overhead. • 5 Ways to Always Look CLASSY

5 Ways to Always Look CLASSY by Tanvi Punia 5 Ways to Always Look CLASSY 16 July 2021 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement Classy style never goes out of fashion. It’s the biggest compliment when someone describes a person’s style as being classy. It’s definitely what everyone should strive to be. Classy style doesn’t always have to be boring as one can always incorporate classier trendy pieces into their looks. And of course, there’s so much more to being a classy person than just the way one looks. Here, the prime focus is just on how to look classy. Through this article, one can learn 5 easy ways to always look classy. So, let’s get started! Keep Clothes Pristine One should keep their clothes looking pristine and clean at all times. What is meant by this is that a person doesn’t always have to go out and spend hundreds of dollars getting really expensive clothes. Instead, even if the person is wearing something that’s relatively cheaper and they present themselves well and wear them right, they can make for a very classy outfit. One should always have their clothes crease-free. Balance the Outfits One can limit the amount of skin they show by not showing too much skin everywhere. Well, it is completely okay to wear something slightly revealing but the rule that most people like to go by is to balance it out. So, if a person is wearing something slightly revealing on the top, they can balance it out with something a bit more conservative on the bottom such as pants that can cover their legs. One can also wear skinny fit and show off their figure but it is much classier to cover up the bottom half and vice versa. Minimal and Natural Make-up Obviously, everyone would still do a few things to enhance their looks but one should not go overboard. With make-up, the three things to focus on would be the skin, eyebrows, and eyelashes. Everyone’s skin should always look nice and clean. There’s nothing worse than a cakey foundation look. In this day and age, everyone is going for a more natural, glowy look so lighter make-up should be preferred. Eyebrows definitely frame one’s face. If someone has messy eyebrows, no matter how nice their clothes or hair are, their face won’t look put together. As soon as they’ll have nice and tidy eyebrows, it will enhance their overall look. Wear Dainty Jewellery With everyday jewellery, it is always classier to go with dainty jewellery that looks high-quality. One can even wear them in the shower and not worry about them getting tarnished. So, having a few pieces that are really dainty and of good quality would last through the years and would definitely give a classier look overall. Wear Comfortable Clothes There’s nothing classy about wearing something uncomfortable and constantly keep adjusting. It’s a sure thing that everyone would have experienced these clothes that look really beautiful but are a bit uncomfortable. It just makes them look not very confident with themselves and this constant fidgeting is just not classy. So, one should choose their clothing items very consciously. So, these were the 5 ways of always looking classy. Incorporating them into daily life can make anyone look classy! When asked about Beauty, fashion, art: If she could pick one and only one of these, what would it be and why? I am an artist, and expressing my creativity everyday is a must for me, I have always dreamed of having big collaboration with big brands like Vuitton, or with brands that align to my vision and moto in life, to reply to your question, I can’t choose one topic is just the way I can express and create something that drives my purpose everyday. We’ve been loving your fashion looks lately. Do you have any unpopular facts you’d want to share with us about the fashion weeks you attend? Style is the most important for me, not only in clothes but in everything I do, since I was a kid I always wanted to add my personal touch to everything I do. I have worked with many stylists and my style has grown through the years, I had experimented every single possible style with clothes, hair and makeup, I think I have tried it all and now I am focusing to develop a street - high fashion style, in my opinion is what is working now, we came to an era that everything is mixed now, we have to adapt everyday, I am open to collaborate with new brands, is part of my job. I love to experiment. If I can give advice, it is to not be afraid to experiment, or to not try to fit in the box, go far away from your comfort zone. If not in this industry, where else would you see yourself? I see myself in the United Nations or inside a laboratory experimenting new ways to improve health, DNA issues, I am a geek inside of me, I just love to learn and study. Well, this definitely brought a smile to our face! How rare is it to see such a bewitching combination! When asked about what inspires her art, she says, “My art is inspired by cinema icons, fashion legends, art movements during the time, everything that make an impact on society, art is the most powerful way to express the evolution of a society, art is power and is the ultimate luxury to manifest a position.” Patricia dons a lot of hats at once. We couldn’t help but ask where she sees herself ten years from now, to which she replied,”I do not make plans that long term, but certainly I would like to have the opportunity to create collaborations with fashion brands, make up brands, having my own talkshow, I will let life to surprise me, maybe life can change dramatically, who knows.” Which designer do you look up to in terms of haute couture? I admire and follow designers who know how to enhance the woman, who can magnify her beauty, I can list my favorite ones lately, Valdrin Sahiti, Georges Hobeika, Rick Owens, Dolce and Gabbana, Zuhair Murad, JeanPaul Gaultier, Carolina Herrera, Oscar de la Renta, I think all of them know how to catch the true essence of a woman, there are so many out there, but I just love these ones. Have you ever considered exploring the Indian fashion industry? I have always been very curious about the Indian market. I admire and share their millenary culture, I have many Indian friends and it is my dream to explore India one time on a long trip. I love their cinema too and the people, very warm and kind. About fashion I only know Manish Arora that I used to assist at his show in Paris. At what age did you start involving yourself into the world of art? I was born an artist, I think art is a path that either you born with it or not, you can’t learn this, you have to born with it, since I was 3 I was already painting, everything I was doing was creative, I knew since the beginning that I was not like the rest of my class, I always feel different, the only thing I was interested in was drawing, painting, or plastic classes, I even wonder why I didn’t just did that, I need time to find myself too, I guess. What is art to you? Art for me can be everything, is the way you see and follow your life, the biggest artists are people who truly lived their life through it, there is no in between, you have to let it kill you and express from it, it can sound very dramatic but it can be obsessive, when I used to have my atelier I was consumed by it, I didn’t want to leave, I could eat and sleep in front of my paintings, I had dreams about what I should create, was crazy, is like your loose the meaning of time, hours, days, nothing matters anymore but to take out what is inside of you. What does your art revolve around? My art sparkles joy, fashion, sensuality, love and femininity. • 64 Floors Up: Lebua At State Tower Perspective

By Shriniwas Kodape By Shriniwas Kodape 64 Floors Up: Lebua At State Tower Perspective 4 October 2025 TRAVEL Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement Bangkok is a city that rarely lowers its voice. It moves fast, runs hot, and hums from the minute you land. But at Lebua at State Tower , the noise slips away. You rise above it, literally, and suddenly the city isn’t pressing in on you anymore. It’s laid out like a map, lights stretching to the horizon. The gold dome is already part of the skyline’s vocabulary. From street level it feels like a landmark; from the inside, it’s a threshold. Step past the doors and the chaos outside is replaced with marble, quiet air, and the faint sound of your own footsteps. They’re high-rise apartments in the sky, elevated sanctuaries with distinct living areas and expansive bathrooms designed for indulgence. The Chao Phraya shimmers far below, boats leaving thin trails of light as the skyline flickers and bends with the humidity. You can stand there for an hour and still feel like you’ve only just arrived. Still, most people don’t only come to lebua for the suites. They come to the rooftop. Sirocco with its Mediterranean plates and river views. Sky Bar, where cocktails glow in neon and the wind brushes past you like a reminder that you’re 64 floors up. Mezzaluna, two Michelin stars under the dome. Breeze, with its illuminated staircase pulling you toward the open air. Each one feels like a stage, each one delivers a performance. Service is attentive in the way you hope for but rarely get. Staff remember details. They anticipate. At peak sunset hours, the rooftop can feel crowded, tourists chasing the same view you came for, but the staff move with pace and the mood never drops. The suites embody a refined sense of classic luxury, their design offering a serene counterbalance to the dazzling vibrance of the rooftop experience. Space remains the quiet luxury here. Rooms this big, this high up, in the middle of Bangkok are rare. The pool and gym exist, but they’re not the headline. The real luxury is your own balcony in the early morning, coffee in hand, watching the river catch the light while the city slowly wakes up below. Lebua at State Tower stands boldly as an icon, fully aware of its stature and embracing it with effortless grandeur. There’s glamour, there’s spectacle, and there’s always the sense that you’re playing a small role in something larger. But if you want to see Bangkok without being in the middle of it, if you want to trade the city’s heat for altitude and space, this is where you do it. Verdict: Come for the rooftop, stay for the balcony. • Thiptara At The Peninsula Bangkok: Thai Soul By The River

By Shriniwas Kodape Thiptara At The Peninsula Bangkok: Thai Soul By The River 28 July 2025 FOOD Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement The river had secrets that night. It moved like a living thing—dark, slow, full of stories older than the skyline across it. A longtail boat parted the water gently as it brought me across, the city flickering behind like a dream I hadn’t quite finished. The Peninsula glowed on the far side, all grace and restraint, but I wasn’t headed for its marble hallways. I was following the scent of lemongrass through a garden lit by flame. Thiptara didn’t shout. It waited. You walked a stone path beneath banyan trees that might’ve been here when Ayutthaya was still a capital. The hum of insects, the low sound of the water hitting wood, and then—just past a carved gate—a table set in a private sala, the Chao Phraya unfolding just beyond your reach. It felt like entering someone’s home. Not just any home, but one that remembered you. A woman in a dark green silk blouse greeted me with the kind of smile that made you feel like you’d made a good decision. No script, no fanfare. Just water poured into a crystal glass and a small plate of fresh betel leaves, folded like an offering, filled with slivers of dried shrimp, peanuts, lime. Sweet. Salty. Sharp. Like the first sentence that dares you to keep reading. The sky burned low over the river. Gold turned to indigo. Lanterns blinked to life in the trees. And then the food began to arrive—not rushed, not arranged for effect, but paced like a conversation. A warm pomelo salad, tossed tableside. The prawns are still warm from the grill, the chili heat gentle but steady. The kind of dish that makes you pause and reach for a cold Singha, just to let your tongue catch up. The menu read like a travelogue. Grilled river prawns in red curry. A smoky eggplant dip, laced with minced pork and coriander. Chicken wrapped in pandan leaves—tender, scented like some memory you couldn’t place. There was a tom yum, too. Not the kind you see in neon-lit tourist spots, but the real thing. The broth was so clear it shimmered. Galangal and lime leaf in harmony. Chili enough to wake you, but not offend you. It reminded me of something my grandmother once said: “The best food speaks in low tones. You lean in to listen.” There was nothing showy about Thiptara. No foam, no dry ice, no fusion masquerading as innovation. Just technique and memory. Tradition without apology. It was food cooked by hands that understood time—how long to steep the broth, how to slice mango just ripe enough for the sticky rice finale. And when the coconut cream hit that still-warm rice, I swear, the air went still for a moment. The river kept talking. A barge groaned upstream. Somewhere behind me, the Peninsula’s jazz trio had started to play, faint but soulful. A breeze came off the water, carrying night with it. No one rushed me. No waiter hovered. My empty plates vanished the way old troubles sometimes do—quietly, respectfully. I stayed long past the point I needed to, because Thiptara didn’t ask me to leave. It asked me to feel something. You don’t write reviews about a place like this. You write letters. Or elegies. Or short stories that begin with a boat crossing the river and end with a plate of mango and sticky rice under a sky full of stars. Thiptara is the kind of place you carry with you. Not just because the food was unforgettable—but because, for one night, you were reminded of what hospitality can be when it isn’t trying to sell you anything. Not a meal. A memory. Not a restaurant. A return. And if Bangkok ever feels too loud, too fast, too much—remember this: the river still waits. And so does Thiptara. • Unscripted, Unstoppable: The Many Lives Of Christine Gulasatree

Unscripted, Unstoppable: The Many Lives Of Christine Gulasatree By Ananya Patankar Unscripted, Unstoppable: The Many Lives Of Christine Gulasatree 22 August 2025 COVER STORIES Advertisement The first thing you notice about Christine Gulasatree isn’t her beauty, though she has the kind of presence that can hold a camera lens still. It’s the energy—the restless spark she carries into a room, alive and uncontainable. It radiates in the way she speaks, in the way she moves, in the way her story keeps unfolding as if one medium could never be enough to contain it. Model. Actress. Singer-songwriter. Each of those titles fits her, but none of them capture her whole. To meet Christine is to understand that she’s less interested in labels than in the art of becoming. She is, above all, a storyteller—one who has learned that expression doesn’t need boundaries, only honesty. “I feel like I’m just a human who loves to do a lot of activities. An enthusiastic human,” she says with an easy laugh, brushing off the weight of a résumé that would intimidate most at 29. That humility disguises more than a decade of persistence, of carving out space in industries where resilience is the only currency. Born and raised in Bangkok, Christine grew up at the intersection of cultures—Thai, Chinese, and German—where expression was encouraged, and curiosity was never a fault. By fifteen, she had stepped into the whirlwind of modeling, chasing both ambition and the thrill of doing what few around her dared. “I didn’t know much about the industry, only that it looked cool and exciting,” she remembers. What followed was a baptism by fire. The fashion world was sharp, quick, and unforgiving. Christine stayed anyway. “Maybe I just wanted to prove people wrong,” she admits. “But then I realized it wasn’t about them—it was about me. About building the life I wanted.” Her look—delicate yet commanding—made her a fixture on Bangkok’s runways and in campaigns. Modeling gave her a stage, but not a voice. That hunger for more creative avenues eventually led her elsewhere. By 2018, Christine was no longer just striding under spotlights but standing in front of film cameras, playing her first role in The Judgement , a Thai drama. The shift was revelatory. “Acting was different from modeling. With acting, you can inhabit emotions that aren’t yours. You can tell stories that cut deeper than appearances. I loved that.” One role led to another— Wolf (2019), Pattaya Heat (2024)—each step sharpening her craft. But it was Netflix’s Reverse 4 You , a fantasy-romance released in 2024, that altered the trajectory of her career. Christine had her first leading role, and with it, a younger, more devoted audience. “When I became an actress two years ago, I suddenly had young fans,” she recalls, her voice softening. “And I realized I didn’t just want to entertain. I wanted to be real. I wanted to be a role model.” That desire to connect—to inspire—pushed her into music. For Christine, songwriting became something rawer than scripts or runways, a place to pour the unfiltered pieces of herself. “Music feels like my most honest form of expression,” she explains. “Modeling and acting are beautiful, but they’re interpretations of something outside me. Music is just me.” To her, there’s no divide between these worlds. They’re simply different branches of the same restless spirit, each one allowing her to step into a new version of herself. Her inspirations, she says, were there all along—in films she watched as a child, in music that echoed through her home, even in toys that carried stories of their own. “Those things made me want to create something of my own one day,” she smiles. That day, it seems, has arrived. Now, whether she’s walking a runway, embodying a character, or strumming out melodies, Christine’s compass is the same: authenticity. She wants to remind others—especially young women—that identity is not fixed, and the courage to evolve is its own art form. “I’m still learning, still growing,” she says, unafraid of the uncertainty. “But if I can show people, especially young girls, that it’s okay to take your own path—no matter how many times it changes—then that’s enough.” For Christine Gulasatree, the future isn’t about narrowing down to one label. It’s about claiming them all, without apology. A model who dares to act. An actress who dares to sing. A storyteller who refuses to stay in one lane. A restless, luminous spirit who keeps proving that passion, when paired with courage, always finds its voice. • Dubai Fashion Week Day Four: Effortless Chic To Royal Grandeur

Dubai Fashion Week Day Four: Effortless Chic To Royal Grandeur By Aarti Singh Dubai Fashion Week Day Four: Effortless Chic To Royal Grandeur 15 February 2025 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement What do you think would be the runway dream of every girl? If you ask me, I would tell you that it is to go from an everyday girl next door to a real-life princess - on the same runway! And that is precisely what the 4th day of Dubai Fashion Week looked like. The day was a striking amalgamation of contemporary fashion infused with a touch of vintage charm. The spectators were a witness to a play of visual symphony where modern elegance met masterful craftsmanship. A day like such, filled with opulent showcases, makes Dubai a global landmark in world fashion. Viva Vox Starts The Day With A Splash Of Colours On The Canvas A showcase presenting a collection that was made for the fearless and stout-hearted with a stealthy edge! The day started with a prolific showcase of Oleg Ovsiyov ’s vision of avant-garde fashion, finessed with a blend of daunting silhouettes and exuberant colours along with fabric choices that clearly depict the Creative Director’s signature style of thinking outside the box. The collection enthralled the audience with its bold, edgy and fortuitous designs. Lama Jouni Brings Forth The Spirit Of Female Sensuality Lama Jouni ’s collection promised a journey through the scenic scapes of a fierce femme fatale town. The spectators got a front-row seat to a quintessentially ‘Jouni’ assortment of designs - think balanced palettes with high contrasts and a wide variety of muted and monochromatic hues! What stole the show was a scintillating display of female sensuality, characterized by the versatility of silhouettes, chic dresses, and waist-enhancing separates. CHOICE Transports The Spectators Back To The Retro 70s Charm The 70s were calling, and CHOICE ’s showcase was nothing short of a time capsule… but with a hint of novelty that made it stand apart from the crowd. The designs borrowed from the perennial taste and subtle glam of the decade. The pieces featured fabrics ranging from natural and lightweight cotton and linens to the more luxurious chiffon, silks, tweed and colour palettes that went from white and black to dessert-inspired hues. Paired with the fluid silhouettes, the metallic embellishments and metallic fringes created a uniquely stunning visual for the spectators - one that was both soft yet suave and powerfully feminine. The pieces featured skirts and dresses with accentuating waists, asymmetric drapes, dramatic designs and versatile trench coats, which truly captured the chic essence of the era that was the 70s! Riva Serves A Multitude Of Versatile Yet Classy Looks Riva ’s collection felt like a visual melancholy of colours, like the onset of spring against a sunset. It seamlessly paired timeless classic charm with a more contemporary sophistication on the side. The collection showcased flowy kaftans paired with enhancing silhouettes matching sets with versatile designs. All this design delicacy was complemented with intricate embroidery, shimmery accents and textured details. The collection was so flawlessly versatile that it could easily transition from an urban, out-and-about activity to a more intimate gathering; such was the range! Michael Cinco Closes The Day With A Royal Affair Imagine the kind of collection that would compel Miss Universe to donne a piece! Because that is precisely what ensued. Miss Universe 2024, Victoria Kjaer Theilvig , aggrandized the runway with her presence for Michael Cinco’s iconic presentation. The collection that had Miss Universe gracing the runway featured luxuriant gowns arrayed with intricate embellishments that left everybody’s eyes bejewelled with sheer sparkle. The rich brocade fabrics and silhouettes blended seamlessly with the influence of royal opulence with contemporary couture. Everybody present was thoroughly enthralled by the showcase which also cemented Cinco’s place in the world of fashion as a break-out star! Cinco’s collection closed the day with an extravagant and lush display of grandeur- a day that otherwise, too, had been nothing short of spectacular in every sense. The collection by Viva Vox captured everyone’s eye with its edgy designs and bold silhouettes to paint a visual collage of hues. And the collection by Lama Jouni brought the much awaited zeal of modern femininity by bringing comfort streetwear at par with luxury and delivering a seamless blend. While talking about blends, one can not overlook the showcase by CHOICE, wherein we got to witness a marriage of retro elegance paired with modern effortless glam. Which was topped by Riva bringing in a myriad of looks that accompany your transition from urban diva to cosy chic! Michale Cinco closed the day with a couture collection that acted as a mirror to his pristine craftsmanship. Last but not least, this day also concluded the Buyer Programme- which provided the designers with an intimate setting with industry professionals & emerging talents to connect and collaborate. It is initiatives like such that pave the way for camaraderie and opportunities in the fashion fraternity. It might be a self-expression but what we have to remember is that fashion is also principled on the basis that we create and foster spaces for people to express.
