- Waluscha De Sousa On Being Her ‘True Self’ And Going On The Dream Journey
Waluscha De Sousa On Being Her ‘True Self’ And Going On The Dream Journey by Panav Minocha Waluscha De Sousa On Being Her ‘True Self’ And Going On The Dream Journey 29 December 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement Waluscha De Sousa is an Indian actress and model who made her debut into Bollywood in the 2016 film Fan. She was recently in the Hindi-language thriller on Sony Liv-Tanaav. Waluscha made her debut into the fashion and modeling industry at the early age of 16. When asked the pros and cons of this early venture into the world of glamour, she replied that she didn’t plan at first to start working at 16. However, she just happened to be discovered at that age by the late fashion designer Wendell Rodricks, and felt extremely fortunate to have worked under his guidance. “He held my hand and never let go. I was very very lucky and very very fortunate to have someone like him (Wendell)”, she said. Having achieved milestones early on in her career, Waluscha mentioned how she became the face of Wendell’s clothing brand, got to be on the cover of a Femina magazine at the age of 17, and starred in a Pepsi commercial with Shah Rukh Khan at the same age. She also talked about how she went onto becoming MTV’s fresh face, and walked in the first Lakm é fashion week in India. She expressed immense gratitude towards Wendell Rodricks for all these achievements. “I owe him so much. So much of what I am today wouldn’t have been possible without him. For me, the journey was smooth with a few bumps along the way, but when I look back I’m just very grateful for having somebody like that in my life.” Waluscha comes from a mixed cultural background, being half Goan-Portuguese (from her father’s side) and half German (from her mother’s side). She was asked how this affected her career, and if it hampered it in any way. Her response: “Yes and no. I inherited my mother’s external appearance. This helped me immensely in the glamour industry. Although, I am inherently very much Indian and I’ve inherited this from my father.” She explained how India and Indian culture played a huge role in her life. “I was born and brought up in India, studied in India, and have my friends and family here.“ On the other hand, Waluscha also talked about some hardships she faced in the film industry. “Unfortunately I didn’t see the same embrace in the film industry. There was this preconceived notion in everybody’s heads that I was not Indian and didn’t speak the language, or I’m not desi, when it’s actually quite the contrary.” She said that she knew how to read and write in not only Hindi, but having grown up in Goa, was fluent in Marathi and Konkani just as well. “All the work that I’ve done in web-series and films has helped me break this notion.” Starting her career as a model, Waluscha only later ventured into the film industry. When asked if this was always her goal or if it happened inevitably, she replied that acting was something she always wanted to do. “The arts were something which always attracted me. Goa is a land filled with singers, musicians, and theatre. I was always drawn to the stage, and you would have seen me on the stage much more than you would see me in the classroom. It was a space that I really enjoyed and it was always inherently who I was. “ Waluscha also appeared to be incredibly enlightened by the response that her latest series- Tanaav, has received. “Tanaav has helped me break the notion that I am in some way un-Indian much more than any of my other work done in the past. The response that has come in post Tanaav has been overwhelming. I cannot even describe the feeling. Two days post it’s release, suddenly everyone knew my name, people who matter actually saw and appreciated my work…” Tanaav is a Hindi-language action thriller streaming on Sony Liv, revolving around conflict in the Kashmir Valley. It is a remake of the Israeli TV series Fauda, which is streamed internationally on Netflix. Waluscha plays the role of Zainab Riaz in the show. - Christian Dior: missed designer and his legacy
Christian Dior: missed designer and his legacy by Aparajita Jaiswal Christian Dior: missed designer and his legacy 1 May 2021 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement What we know about Christian Dior, commonly known as Dior, is that it’s a French luxury goods company controlled and chaired by French businessman Bernard Arnault, who also heads LVMH, the world’s largest luxury group. But what many of us do not know about the brand is its origin. The company was founded in 1946 by designer Christian Dior. It currently designs and retails leather goods, fashion accessories, footwear, jewellery, timepieces, fragrance, makeup, and skin care products, while also maintaining its tradition as a creator of haute-couture under the Christian Dior Couture division. The Christian Dior label remains largely for women’s offerings, although the company also operates the Dior Homme division for men and the baby Dior label for children’s wear. Products are sold throughout its portfolio of retail stores worldwide, as well as through its online store. The House of Dior was established on 16 December 1946 in “a private house” at 30 Avenue Montaigne in Paris. However, the current Dior Corporation celebrates “1947” as the opening year. Businessman Marcel Boussac decided to financially back Dior. Boussac first invited Dior to design for Philippe et Gaston, but Christian Dior declined as he wanted to start his own brand instead of reviving an old one, leading to his first launch, New Look, a fashion collection for Spring–Summer 1947, on 12th February 1947. The company was a majorly owned affiliate of Boussac Saint-Freres S.A. and was really a vanity project for Boussac. Nevertheless, Dior had a non-controlling stake in the firm and allowed a great part of his namesake label despite Boussac’s reputation as a “Control freak”. Expansion from France began by the end of 1949 with the opening of a Christian Dior boutique in New York City. After this, Christian Dior signed a contract with Douglas Cox for Dior to produce original designs and for Douglas Cox to create them in his Flinders Lane workshop in Australia. In 1950, Jacques Rouët, the general manager of Dior Ltd, devised a licensing program to place the now-renowned name of “Christian Dior” visibly on a variety of luxury goods. Members of the French Chamber of Couture denounced it as a degrading action for the haute-couture image. Nevertheless, licensing became a profitable move and began a trend to continue for decades to come, which all couture houses followed. The company operated firmly established locations in Mexico, Cuba, Canada, and Italy by the end of 1953. By the mid-1950s, the House of Dior operated a well-respected fashion empire. Christian Dior launched more highly successful fashion lines between the years of 1954 and 1957. However, none came as close to the profound effect of the New Look. Christian Dior appeared on the cover of TIME dated 4 March 1957. The designer soon afterwards died from a third heart attack on 24 October 1957. The captivating impact of Dior’s creative fashion genius earned him recognition as one of history’s greatest fashion figures. Kevin Almond for Contemporary Fashion wrote that “by the time Dior died his name had become synonymous with taste and luxury.” “Perfume is the indispensable complement to the personality of women, the finishing touch on a dress” ~Christian Dior Dior without Christian Dior. The death of the head designer left the House of Dior in chaos, and general manager Jacques Rouët considered shutting down operation worldwide. This possibility was not received graciously by Dior licensees and the French fashion industry. To bring the label back on its feet, Rouët promoted the 21-year-old Yves Saint-Laurent to Artistic Director the same year. Laurent had joined the House’s family in 1955 after being picked out by the original designer himself for the position of the first ever and only Head Assistant. After change of multiple designers and various scandals, Dior now, presently, has created strong partnerships with Hollywood celebrities and social media influencers, working closely with these individuals to reach more demographics and re-establish its identity as a new, modern brand, despite the fact that it has been around for a while. Dior has effectively implemented social media into their marketing communication strategy, in which images and videos from campaigns are shared on both the official Dior profile, and on the celebrity ambassadors’ social media pages. An example of this success is seen in the Secret Garden campaign featuring Rihanna. Despite the reach not being completely suitable to the Dior target audience, collaborating with the likes of Rihanna allows the company to engage with more of the market, as Rihanna’s social media following is four times larger than that of the fashion house. #DiorChristianDiorFashionLuxuryCompanyCoutureRihannaFrench SEARCH Why does Fashion Need Fashion Shows FASHION From Dreams To Crowns: Anuradha Garg’s Inspiring Mrs. India Story FASHION Colour Psychology in Fashion: Explained FASHION Legendary Female Icons Who Made Fashion Statements In The 20th Century FASHION The House of Chanel: History FASHION POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement By Shriniwas Kodape The Snake That Wore Red: Inside The Vision Cultured™ Revolution 19 October 2025 FASHION By Sakshi Shah Francesca Bellettini Ushers In Gucci’s New Dawn 19 September 2025 FASHION By Shriniwas Kodape Dibba Studio: Weaving The Future Of Fashion At Thailand Fashion Week AW25-26 2 September 2025 FASHION By Shriniwas Kodape Aksstagga: Threads That Whisper Love, Memory, And Eternity 21 August 2025 FASHION RELATED POSTS Advertisement
- Smooth Operator: Audi’s Q5 Hybrid Is Built To Tempt
Smooth Operator: Audi’s Q5 Hybrid Is Built To Tempt By Ananya Patankar Smooth Operator: Audi’s Q5 Hybrid Is Built To Tempt 14 July 2025 LIFESTYLE Advertisement Sleek, intuitive, and engineered to whisper rather than roar, the Audi Q5 e-hybrid is a car for those who believe performance shouldn’t demand attention—but effortlessly earn it. It’s not just about going electric. It’s about elevating every moment behind the wheel. Audi turns the page with two bold new additions to the Q5 lineage. From first glance, it’s clear it isn’t merely an SUV made for commuting. The SUV and Sportback are not just sculpted but add to its athletic silhouette more akin to modern architecture than machinery. Whether you’re gazing at the Sportback’s sleek roof-line or the classic stance of the SUV, the Q5 e-hybrid feels at home anywhere: coastal highways, cobbled cities or countryside curves. However, there is more to the Q5 than just its astonishing architecture. Beneath its sculpted form beats the unmistakable heart of Audi—quattro all-wheel drive, now re-imagined with electric precision. Available in two power-trains—220 kW and a thrilling 270 kW—the Q5 e-hybrid isn’t just a hybrid; it’s a masterclass in dynamic elegance. It’s an experience of choice, a choice that makes your Sunday grocery runs pleasurable and weekend getaways relaxing. With up to 100 kilometers of pure electric driving the car promises that signature Audi surge, hitting 0 to 100 km/h in as little as 5.1 seconds. When it comes to the driving experience, you're enveloped by a cabin that feels more sanctuary than vehicle. Soft-touch material wraps you in Audi’s S line design, where every surface, every control, feels positioned not just with thought, but with compassion. There’s subtle confidence here, a feeling where your Q5 understands before you speak. The Q5’s fully digital MMI experience plus is not just an infotainment system, but rather your co-pilot, artfully integrating Audi’s application store, along with smartphone interface, and a dynamic sound system that drowns the traffic allowing you a pleasurable and non-stressful drive. As for the passenger experience, Audi does not compromise. The fully adjustable rear seat bench plus lets passengers choose their own realm of space—whether you’re traveling solo with weekend luggage or with a backseat trio heading for dinner in the hills. As promised, your vehicle strives to understand before you even speak, responding with utmost silence, like it’s EV mode. Driving the Q5 e-hybrid in EV mode is like slipping into a private members’ club—exclusive, hushed, effortless. Where power and peace collide. With three levels of regenerative braking controlled by steering wheel paddles, you can command the drive with a gentle flick of the fingers. Whether coasting into a quiet sunrise or descending a hillside road, the Q5’s intelligent hybrid system ensures that every joule of energy is put to sophisticated use. And when the roads open up? That’s when the combustion engine joins the ensemble—smooth, quiet, and seamlessly blended with it’s electric torque. It’s not a transition you notice; it’s one you feel, like the subtle gear shift in a live jazz quartet. Additionally, beneath that is a battery system re-imagined; not just to perform but think ahead. At the heart of the Q5 e-hybrid is a re-imagined high-voltage battery with 45% more capacity than its predecessor. Audi didn’t just increase the numbers—they re-engineered the battery architecture, using a “cell-to-pack” design that not only boosts energy density but preserves cabin and trunk space. Resulting in up to 1,358 liters of storage in the SUV with the seats down—and a silent confidence that no detail has gone overlooked. Consecutively, charging too can be considered a part of your lifestyle, rather than just another chore. With 11 kW AC charging capability, you’re looking at a full charge in just 2.5 hours. Plug in at home after your evening run, and it’s ready to go by the time you finish your espresso. But beyond convenience lies intelligence—the kind that can predict your next move. Audi’s hybrid drive strategy is more than just intelligent—it’s instinctual. With Predictive Efficiency Assist , the car uses GPS data, traffic analysis, even gradient readings, to determine when to recover energy or coast—making the most of every meter. It’s like driving with a sixth sense, where the car knows when to push, and when to pause. In addition, there’s a refined rhythm to the Q5 e-hybrid’s movement: the quiet confidence of a machine that’s always aligned—with the road, the moment, and you. Whether in EV, hybrid, or full performance mode, this Audi adapts not just to roads, but to the luxurious lifestyle you seek. In a world obsessed with volume, the Q5 leads with stillness and luxury. The Q5 earns admiration through craft, presence and purposeful innovation. You can feel it in the red brake calipers peeking behind 19-inch alloy wheels, in the tailored black sports seats, in the way ambient lighting turns night drives into theatre. Built in San José Chiapa, Mexico, and arriving in Europe mid-2025, the Q5 e-hybrid is more than a new chapter—it’s Audi at its most evolved. It speaks to the modern driver: someone who values sustainability, yes—but refuses to compromise on thrill, texture, or style. With the Q5 e-hybrid, Audi redefines modern luxury—not through volume or velocity, but through refinement, range, and instinctive ease. Join Shruti Yogi On Her Enchanting Journey From Kumkum Bhagya To Wanderlust Saga by Akshra Khandelwal Join Shruti Yogi On Her Enchanting Journey From Kumkum Bhagya To Wanderlust Saga 26 August 2023 LIFESTYLE Advertisement In a world brimming with talent and creativity, Shruti Yogi has emerged as a multifaceted influencer who has successfully etched her name onto the canvas of social media. As I sat down with her for an exclusive interview, her radiant smile and infectious enthusiasm set the tone for a conversation that delved into her journey from acting to influencing, her passion for travel, and the essence of her digital evolution. "Life is treating me well, personally and in terms of work," she shared as we began our conversation. A statement that echoed not just in her words but also in her vibrant demeanour. As an influencer who has managed to strike the perfect balance between personal and professional spheres, it was evident that Shruti's journey was marked by intention and dedication. With a sparkle in her eyes, she revealed her upcoming travel destination – a place lingering in her dreams for far too long. "Iceland," she exclaimed, her excitement palpable. After years of yearning, she was finally set to embark on an Icelandic adventure come October. Her face lit up as she spoke about the ethereal landscapes she was eager to explore and the thrill of experiencing the land of fire and ice. However, her journey to the world of influencers was paved with a different kind of spotlight – the television screen. "I started my journey as an actor in 2015," she reminisced. With roles in TV shows like "Kumkum Bhagya," "Ishq Me Mar Jawan," and cameo appearances in "Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi," she had already made her presence felt in the entertainment world. But it was in 2019 that she decided to expand her horizons and step into social media. "I started posting pics and videos for my audience, which was following me because of my TV shows," she explained. Little did she know that this step would lead to collaborations with renowned brands and even earn her the prestigious "Wander with Luxury" award by the esteemed "Scy Awards." "A most memorable day," she recalled with a smile, the recognition a testament to her dedication and hard work. Content creators often find their niche through experimentation in the ever-evolving social media landscape. Shruti's journey was no different. She began by sharing content related to acting and fashion, slowly shaping her platform into a reflection of her passions. "I found my niche: fashion, travel, and lifestyle," she shared. Her evolution into a creator who crafts captivating fashion and travel videos was a testament to her commitment to personal growth. Photography and videography had become integral parts of her creative arsenal, allowing her to weave narratives that resonated deeply with her audience. As our conversation flowed, I couldn't resist asking about the three things that held an irreplaceable spot in her life. She chuckled, her response reflecting her authenticity. "I can't live without working – without having a goal," she admitted. The fire within her to keep pushing herself was evident. Her love for travel followed closely, a passion she nourished by ensuring a getaway every few months. "It's keeping me sane in this busy life," she mused. And then, there was coffee – a source of unparalleled excitement. Her eyes twinkled mischievously as she shared her fondness for that energising brew. In the realm of travel, memorable moments often turn into cherished stories. Shruti had her fair share; one stood out vividly – a trip to Croatia with her husband. Amidst the country's breathtaking beauty, an unexpected twist unfolded as her husband fell ill. "He got sick badly for 4.5 days," she recalled, her voice tinged with concern. Yet, what could have been a daunting experience turned into a heartwarming memory. Strangers became friends as the Croatian people extended their care and kindness, leaving an indelible mark on her heart. "I loved Croatia for its beauty and the beauty of Croatian people," she reflected. The story was a testament to the power of human connections forged in adversity. Shruti's advice was simple yet profound for aspiring creators eager to follow in her footsteps. "Be consistent and work hard. Find your niche and stick to that," she advised. But above all, she emphasised the significance of passion. "Love what you do to survive longer," she added. Her journey was a testament to the rewards of perseverance and the joy that stems from pursuing one's true calling. As our interview drew close, I couldn't help but be inspired by Shruti Yogi's unwavering spirit and zest for life. From the glimmering world of television to the captivating realm of social media, she had seamlessly transitioned, leaving a trail of creativity and authenticity in her wake. With Iceland on the horizon and a heart full of dreams, Shruti Yogi reminds us that life's greatest adventures await those who dare to chase them. - Not a beach body, but a fit body
Not a beach body, but a fit body by Raunak Singh Hooda Not a beach body, but a fit body 1 June 2021 LIFESTYLE Advertisement “A sound body keeps a sound mind.” We hear this saying so often around us, this is what our parents, school teachers, and elders tell us when they need to emphasize the importance of exercise in our lives. So let’s try to understand what this means. In today’s fast-paced world, where productivity and profit are given the highest priority, and general well-being takes a backseat in light of extreme capitalism, it is imperative that people become more aware of how their body functions, and why it is necessary to keep it fit. The first and foremost cause of physical deterioration of the body lies in the mental state of a person. With many social media platforms growing increasingly toxic, a large number of people today are facing mental health issues that are deep-rooted, and these are primarily hurting the physical well-being of these people. Exercise has been found to be one of the major protectors of a person’s mental well-being. Exercise improves mental health by reducing anxiety, depression, and negative mood, and by improving self-esteem and cognitive function. Exercise has also been found to alleviate symptoms such as low self-esteem and social withdrawal. Lack of exercise also has a cause-effect relationship with obesity. A lack of proper exercise causes it, and a lack of proper exercise is also induced by it. In 2019, an estimated 38.2 million children under the age of five were found to be suffering from obesity. Why it is a problem is because raised BMI is a major risk factor for noncommunicable diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, musculoskeletal disorders(especially osteoarthritis), and even some forms of cancer. Regular physical exercise increases people’s energy expenditure, which can help them stay in energy balance, and even lose weight, as long as they don’t overcompensate for the number of calories burned during the exercise period. Physical exercise also decreases the fat around the waist and total body fat, hence slowing down the advancement of abdominal obesity. Exercise also helps to lower the blood cholesterol levels, hence lowering chances of a heart attack. Physical exercise is also recommended by doctors due to the fact, that it influences the person and the body to form a habit. If a person decides to start exercising, it will naturally boost good hormones such as serotonin, which leaves them feeling better, and that leads to the mind automatically convincing the rest of the body to make a habit out of it, so that boosts in mood and energy can be experienced more often. Hence, fitness and exercise can really improve the quality of life of an individual, and following such a lifestyle may just be the deciding factor for a healthier and longer life. - Coping with Confinement
SOCIETY by Akash Khatri Coping with Confinement 26 July 2020 SOCIETY Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement The earlier days of the pandemic caused a furore and great hullabulla. Great chaos everywhere, no school, no maids, work from home and still ambiguous about the situation ahead as we approach towards the end of lockdown four. During this whole topsy turvy journey gradually it seems we have become more human. A transition from a dependant to a more independent working – subtracting the maids and a more gadget-free atmosphere. During this whole transition period, I treasured dormant talent of my personality, as I could steal some time for trying out solo singing, penning down my thoughts to create short stories, experimenting in the kitchen and even nailed the unusual skill of giving men a haircut. Today I had lessons of stitching from my mom-in-law and found that it’s not that tedious and tricky as I had thought, of course, one needs to be lucky to have a good teacher beside you as my MIL is. I tried my hand on tailoring too, thanks to the lockdown. All and all it’s so much fun being indoors with family, doing crazy things and enjoying the nearness, attention as well as helping hand of the spouse. Above all, the level of tolerance has reached its acme and this habit I would always wish could be deep-rooted within me forever. Personal Growth And Relatability: Ishita Khanna's Key To Influencer Success by Akshra Khandelwal Personal Growth And Relatability: Ishita Khanna's Key To Influencer Success 26 August 2023 LIFESTYLE Advertisement Ishita Khanna, a renowned digital content creator, has carved her own niche in the lifestyle and fashion space for over three years. In an exclusive interaction, we sat down with Ishita to deep dive into the world of content creation in an ever-evolving digital landscape, what drives her to create relatable content for audiences, lifestyle and grooming hacks, the importance of self-care and her approach to personal development. "Work's been incredible. If I talk about my typical work day, it has a lot of team huddles, meetings with brands/agencies, and ideating/scripting for future content and shoots," Ishita shares as she delves into the busy world of a lifestyle influencer. Her days are filled with brainstorming sessions and collaborations that allow her to craft content that resonates with her audience. As we settled in for our chat, we were eager to know more about Ishita's creative journey. "It's fascinating how life takes us on unexpected paths," she began. "In 2018, I started freelancing in social media and content roles, which eventually led me to work for a food blog. While creating videos for the blog, I rediscovered my passion for creative direction. That's when the idea of starting my own YouTube channel struck me like lightning!" Ishita's journey is a testament to the diverse backgrounds that lead one to digital content creation. "Despite my academic background – a postgraduate degree in financial economics and preparing full-time for the UPSC examinations – my heart has always been set on creative direction, filmmaking, editing, and digital media since my early school days," she revealed. Within three months of diving into full-time content creation on YouTube, Ishita gained a massive audience of over 100K subscribers. Her fashion, styling, and lifestyle content hit all the right notes with her viewers. Since then, she's been on a mission to create her own lane in the lifestyle and fashion digital content world. Her adventures have taken her across India and beyond, where she collaborates with brands she genuinely connects with. "I believe in unleashing the power of my visual language, creativity, and marketing to connect with audiences," Ishita shared passionately. "It's not just about my content; I want to give the brands I represent more visibility too." What sets Ishita's content apart is its relatability. Naturally, we were curious about her secret sauce for creating relatable content regularly. "Inspiration comes from everywhere," she said. "From recent travels to magazine archives, movies, and even my friends – they all contribute to my creative process. But the real magic lies in the women around me – my friends, family, and women in power. Their confidence and authenticity draw me in, and I strive to push the same energy into my online content." The most fulfilling part of being a creator, according to Ishita, is the heartfelt messages she receives from women who resonate with her posts. "When someone tells me that my content helped them find what works best for their body type or boosted their confidence in what they wear, it's truly heartwarming," she shared with a warm smile. Of course, with a hectic schedule, self-care becomes essential. Ishita's self-care rituals include her beloved cup of coffee and spending quality time with her furry friends. "My dogs are my stress-busters," she admitted. "But I also find joy in cycling, working out, and spending time with my friends – those little moments of bliss keep me balanced." In the realm of fashion, comfort is key for Ishita. "I've been all about comfort lately," she laughed. "Joggers or cargo pants paired with an oversized tee are my go-to fits. I believe you can look stylish without sacrificing comfort!" For aspiring creators looking to grow personally and professionally, Ishita has some golden advice. "Stay focused on your goals and treat every day like it's day one," she emphasised. "Collaborate with others, be open to feedback, and engage authentically with your audience. Stay curious and explore new creative avenues – that's the path to growth!" As our delightful conversation neared its end, we couldn't resist asking Ishita about her upcoming projects. "Exciting content pieces are in the works with brands and agencies," she revealed with a twinkle in her eye. "Keep your eyes peeled for more in the coming months!" - Unveiling the Myth: Does Pretty Privilege Truly Exist
Unveiling the Myth: Does Pretty Privilege Truly Exist By Anushka Sharma Unveiling the Myth: Does Pretty Privilege Truly Exist 17 April 2024 LIFESTYLE Advertisement In a world where Instagram filters reign supreme and beauty standards constantly evolve, the concept of pretty privilege has sparked countless debates. But what exactly is pretty privilege, and does it really exist? Let's embark on a journey through the realms of attractiveness and societal advantages to uncover the truth behind this captivating notion. First things first, what is pretty privilege? Simply put, it's the idea that attractive individuals enjoy certain benefits solely based on their appearance. From getting better job opportunities to receiving special treatment in social settings, the notion suggests that being conventionally attractive comes with its set of perks. But hold on a second! Before we jump to conclusions, let's break it down. Is pretty privilege a real phenomenon or just a figment of our imagination? Well, the answer isn't as black and white as we might think. Sure, being attractive might catch the eye of others and open some doors, but does it guarantee success and happiness? Not quite. While a beautiful face might grab attention, it's what lies beneath the surface that truly matters. Personality, skills, and character play a far more significant role in determining one's journey through life. Let's take a closer look at some common scenarios often associated with pretty privilege. Ever heard of the phrase, "Beauty opens doors"? Well, it might hold some truth. Studies have shown that attractive individuals are more likely to land job interviews and receive favorable treatment in certain situations. But does that mean they have it easy all the time? Certainly not. Consider this: A stunning applicant might catch the recruiter's eye, but it's their qualifications and skills that seal the deal. Pretty privilege might get your foot in the door, but it's your capabilities that keep it open. After all, no amount of beauty can compensate for incompetence. In social settings, attractive people might attract more attention and receive compliments more frequently. But does that translate to genuine connections and meaningful relationships? Not necessarily. True friendships and romantic connections are built on mutual respect, shared interests, and emotional compatibility, not just physical appearance. Moreover, beauty standards vary widely across cultures and individuals. What one society deems attractive might be completely different from another's perception. So, who decides what's pretty and what's not? It's all subjective. Now, let's address the elephant in the room: discrimination based on appearance. Yes, unfortunately, it does exist. Studies have shown that less attractive individuals might face prejudice in certain situations, such as hiring processes or social interactions. But does that mean pretty privilege is the flip side of the same coin? Not quite. Rather than focusing on the privileges or disadvantages associated with appearance, perhaps it's time we shift our perspective. Instead of fixating on beauty standards and societal expectations, let's celebrate diversity and individuality. After all, true beauty lies in embracing our uniqueness and loving ourselves for who we are, not how we look. So, does pretty privilege exist? Well, it's complicated. While attractiveness might open some doors, it's what we do once we're inside that truly matters. Let's strive to create a world where everyone is judged based on their character, skills, and contributions rather than their appearance. After all, that's where true privilege lies – in being valued for who we are, not how we look. - The Legacy Of Gold: A Journey Through Time With Munnalal Maheshlal Arya Jewellers
The Legacy Of Gold: A Journey Through Time With Munnalal Maheshlal Arya Jewellers By Anushka Sharma The Legacy Of Gold: A Journey Through Time With Munnalal Maheshlal Arya Jewellers 19 July 2024 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement In the very heart of Bihar, a state steeped in the richness of tradition and culture, lies Munnalal Maheshlal Arya Jewellers , a family-owned jewellery business that has been passed down through six generations. With a legacy that spans over a century, this jeweller has seen it all - from the rise and fall of empires to the evolution of consumer preferences. Isn’t that a note-worthy, admirable legacy? When asked about the inspiration behind their collections, the jeweller revealed that their focus lies in creating everyday light wear jewellery that caters to the average Indian, with a special emphasis on the rural market. With a price range that starts from a lakh and goes up to 25 lakhs a piece, their jewellery is designed to be worn and treasured for generations to come. They’re deemed as heirloom pieces and cherished by the families through generations. When asked about the typical customer who walks into their store, the jeweller described an average Indian household that comes with a lot of trust and savings, looking for a piece that will hold its value and be cherished for years to come. After all, don’t we love the idea of good jewellery for a beloved’s wedding? Mr. Bhavesh revealed that most of their jewellery is purchased for weddings, gifting, and self-use, with a focus on gold jewellery that holds investment value. When asked about the current trends in the industry, the jeweller noted a resurgence in the demand for gold jewellery, particularly in certain markets. While diamond and Kundan jewellery have gained popularity in recent years, the jeweller believes that gold will always hold its value and remain a preferred choice for Indians. Jewellery and skin tones: When it comes to skin tones and colours, the jeweller explained that yellow gold stands out well on Indian skin, making it a popular choice for the Indian subcontinent. However, for those with a fairer skin tone, rose gold and white gold can be a good option. The jeweller also emphasized the importance of tradition and customs in the Indian jewellery industry, stating that yellow gold will always be the preferred choice due to its cultural significance. Beyond the point of sale, Munnalal Maheshlal Arya Jewellers engages with customers through local events, music concerts, and CSR initiatives. With a strong offline presence, Mr Bhavesh believes that trust and legacy are key to their success. When asked about the challenges they faced during the COVID-19 pandemic, the jeweller revealed that while it was a difficult time for many jewellers, their business actually saw a surge in sales as people turned to investment opportunities. Is gold a viable option for investment in today’s times? In today's economy, Mr Bhavesh believes that gold is a superb investment option, offering returns of 5% to 6% every year. With a plan to establish an online presence in the next 6 to 9 months, Munnalal Maheshlal Arya Jewellers is confident that their legacy will continue to shine for generations to come. Lastly, he also emphasized the importance of education in the jewellery industry, stating that not many brand owners today have a qualification in jewellery. All that one requires is a burning desire for a business of gemstones. Mr Bhavesh has had an impactful qualification to back his career in gemmology though: He has graduated as a gemologist from Gemological Institute of America, Carlsbad. Needless to say, with a focus on gold and a commitment to quality, Munnalal Maheshlal Arya Jewellers is a true testament to the power of legacy and tradition in the Indian jewellery industry. Atout By Dr. Supriya M: The Trailblazing Educator-Turned-Entrepreneur Redefining Saree Culture By Sakshi Batra Atout By Dr. Supriya M: The Trailblazing Educator-Turned-Entrepreneur Redefining Saree Culture 12 March 2025 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement What happens when a passionate media educator decides to channel her love for tradition into fashion? When you think of Dr. Supriya M, it’s hard to place her within a single box. A passionate media educator, accomplished researcher, and now an ambitious entrepreneur, Dr. Supriya’s journey is nothing short of inspiring. Born and raised in Bangalore, she carved her academic path in journalism, earning a Ph.D. from the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism. Today, she is the dynamic Assistant Professor and Head of the Media Club at the Dalai Lama Institute for Higher Education. But her identity doesn’t end with her academic accolades. Dr. Supriya’s story reveals her evolution from an academic powerhouse to the visionary founder of “ Atout ,” a brand that is revolutionizing the way we perceive sarees. The Journey From Academia To Entrepreneurship For Dr. Supriya, the spark of entrepreneurship was ignited during her Ph.D. journey. A serendipitous moment occurred when she was required to wear sarees frequently. What could have been a mundane requirement turned into a revelation. As she explored the beauty of sarees, their fabrics, prints, and the stories they carry, she found herself captivated by their charm. It was this fascination with sarees, combined with her enduring love for natural fabrics, that planted the seeds for her entrepreneurial venture. “India is one of the largest exporters of cotton, and I’ve always been inspired by natural fabrics. Sarees, especially, make me feel comfortable, carefree, and stylish all at once,” she shares. Dr. Supriya firmly believes that sarees can effortlessly merge tradition with modernity. “People often associate trendsetting fashion with Western attire like jeans, tops, or skirts. But a saree? It’s sexy, elegant, and timeless—all in one,” she adds with a smile. Introducing Atout: More Than Just A Brand When it came to naming her brand, Dr. Supriya chose something unique - “Atout”, a French word meaning "An Asset." The name reflects her vision, to create sarees that are not just garments but treasured assets for every woman. Atout embraces traditional Indian culture while introducing modern design elements. Dr. Supriya’s love for mul cotton, natural dyes, and block printing forms the core of the brand. She envisions sarees that are free from chemicals, affordable, and versatile enough to fit into every woman’s wardrobe, from festive celebrations to casual outings. Atout: Tradition With A Twist Atout isn’t just about draping fabric; it’s about embracing heritage with a modern lens. Dr. Supriya’s designs are rooted in mul cotton, natural dyes, and block printing, ensuring sustainability while celebrating India’s rich textile legacy. Each Saree From Atout Tells A Story: Comfort Meets Elegance : Natural, chemical-free fabrics make Atout sarees a dream to wear. Bold Meets Beautiful : Vibrant hues, pastels, and timeless prints bring tradition into the 21st century. Affordable Luxury : Elegance doesn’t have to come with a hefty price tag—Atout makes beauty accessible to all. Breaking Stereotypes: Sarees As The Ultimate Fashion Statement Dr. Supriya’s philosophy challenges the notion that Western wear dominates modern fashion. “A saree can make you look fashionable, trendy, and powerful. It’s not just a garment; it’s a statement piece,” she asserts. Atout’s sarees aim to showcase how this timeless attire can be reimagined with unique concepts like pastel tones, vibrant hues, and intricate block prints, proving that tradition and trend can coexist beautifully. The Support System Behind Her Success Dr. Supriya credits her family’s unwavering support for her success. Coming from a respectable background -her father an IPS officer, she grew up in an environment that encouraged her to chase her dreams. “My family has always given me the freedom to fly with my wings,” she reflects fondly. On Competition: A Philosophy Of Self-Growth When asked about her competitors, Dr. Supriya’s response is as bold as it is refreshing. “I don’t see anyone as my competition. My only competitor is myself. If I’m satisfied with the quality of my products and my customers are happy, that’s enough for me,” she says with confidence. Future Aspirations: Building A Legacy Looking ahead, Dr. Supriya has ambitious plans for Atout. Her focus is on sustainability, customer satisfaction, and expanding the brand through multiple channels, including e-commerce platforms, multimedia promotions, and word-of-mouth publicity. For her, success is not just about sales, it’s about creating a product that makes people feel good about what they’re wearing. Her vision? To design more innovative fabrics using natural methods and introduce unique sarees that resonate with modern sensibilities while staying true to their roots. The Core Of Atout Dr. Supriya encapsulates her brand’s philosophy in three key principles: durability, affordability, and timeless style. Atout sarees are designed to make women look and feel their best, combining high-quality craftsmanship with natural, chemical-free materials. A Message To Women Everywhere Dr. Supriya’s journey is a testament to the power of passion, perseverance, and staying true to one’s roots. Through Atout, she aims to inspire women to embrace sarees not just as traditional attire but as a bold, versatile, and fashionable choice. As she puts it, “Sarees have been celebrated for centuries. They’re not just garments; they’re a symbol of our culture, our identity, and our ability to blend tradition with innovation. With Atout, I want to remind women that they don’t have to choose between looking trendy and honoring their roots - they can have both.” Dr. Supriya M’s story resonates with anyone who has ever dared to dream beyond the ordinary. From her academic achievements to her entrepreneurial journey, she is a living example of how passion and determination can lead to extraordinary heights. And with Atout, she’s proving that the saree is not just a relic of the past - it’s the future of Indian fashion.
