- The House of Chanel: History
The House of Chanel: History by Aparajita Jaiswal The House of Chanel: History 1 May 2021 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement Coco Chanel, the artistic genius of a million dollar empire, who was born by the name of Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel, was a French fashion designer who ruled over Parisian haute couture for almost six decades. Her elegantly casual designs inspired women of fashion to abandon the complicated, uncomfortable clothes like petticoats and corsets that were prevalent in 19th-century dress code. Among her ever so classy innovations were the Chanel suit, the quilted purse, costume jewelry, and the “little black dress”. Although the cosmetics and perfume wing of the French fashion house began many years ago with a little fragrance called No5. It started life back in 1921 when Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel was already reigning over the Paris fashion world. Everyday is a fashion show, the world is our runway Coco Chanel Chanel was born into poverty in the French countryside. After a brief stint as a shop girl, Chanel worked for a few years as a café singer. She later, with financial assistance from Arthur Capel, opened a tiny millinery shop in Deauville, France, where she also sold simple sportswear, such as jersey sweaters. Within the span of mere five years, her use of jersey’s fabric to create a poor girl look had attracted the attention of influential wealthy women seeking relief from the prevalent corseted styles. Faithful to her belief that “luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not luxury,” Chanel’s designs stressed simplicity and comfort and revolutionized the fashion industry, changing uncomfortable corsets to leisure suits. Chanel enlisted a lot of financial help from various companies and wealthy gentlemen. The magnificent empire of Chanel no. 5 was first supported financially with the help of Ernst Beaux and introduced to the world in 1921 for the very first time. Ernst Beaux was one of the most-talented perfume creators in France. It is said that from the various samples procured by Ernst Beaux, Chanel chose the fifth sample, giving the perfume its official name. It was a combination of jasmine and several other floral scents that was more complex and mysterious than the single-scented perfumes then on the market. Chanel was the first major fashion designer to introduce a perfume and that she replaced the typical perfume packaging with a simple and sleek bottle also added to the scent’s success. She partnered with businessmen Théophile Bader of the Galeries Lafayette department store and Pierre Wertheimer of the Bourjois cosmetics company, who both agreed to help her produce more of her fragrance and to market it in exchange for a share of the profits. After signing a contract wherein she received only 10 percent of the royalties, Chanel enacted a series of lawsuits in the ensuing decades to regain control of her signature fragrance. Although she was never able to renegotiate the terms of her contract to increase her royalties, Chanel nonetheless made a considerable profit from the perfume. By the late 1920s the Chanel industries were reportedly worth millions and employed more than 2,000 people, not only in her couture house but also in a perfume laboratory, a textile mill, and a jewelry workshop. At the same time, Chanel started to expand and go global launching a cosmetics line in 1924 and a range of skincare products in 1929. Chanel closed her couture house in 1939 with the outbreak of World War II. Her associations with a German diplomat during the Nazi occupation tainted her reputation, and she did not return to fashion until 1954. That year she introduced her highly copied suit design: a collarless, braid-trimmed cardigan jacket with a graceful skirt. She also introduced bell-bottomed pants and other innovations while always retaining a clean classic look. In the 50s, Chanel No5 really was the perfume to be smelt in. In a 1954 interview, Marilyn Monroe famously answered the question “What do you wear to bed?” with the line “Just a few drops of No5”. After her death in 1971, Chanel’s couture house was led by a series of different designers, stabilizing the situation in 1983 when Karl Lagerfeld became chief designer. The popularity of the perfume continued to grow but this wasn’t necessarily a good thing. In the 1970s it was decided that No5 had lost its air of exclusivity so it was reinvented and made less widely available. Huge advertising campaigns were adopted using big name directors and big name stars; a Chanel tradition that lives on to this day. Chanel’s shrewd understanding of women’s fashion needs, her enterprising ambition, and the romantic aspects of her life, her rise from rags to riches and her sensational love affairs, continued to inspire numerous biographical books, films, and plays, including the 1970 Broadway musical Coco starring Katharine Hepburn. Chanel Today Today Chanel is 87 years old and worth $100 Million. Chanel is owned by by Alain Wertheimer and Gérard Wertheimer, grandsons of Pierre Wertheimer, who was an early business partner of the couturière Coco Chanel. Chanel focuses exclusively on women’s high fashion and ready-to-wear clothes, luxury goods, and accessories. Chanel has a huge range of fancily-priced makeup with seasonal launches and limited edition collections that come thick and fast. In more recent years, something strange happens when Chanel launch a new shade. People get a bit giddy, waiting lists are formed and cheap copycats are produced. It is one of the top luxury brands, a classic understanding of from rags to riches and a desire of every woman across the globe. Overtime they have become exclusive, desired and rare which are the reasons why Chanel’s items are both popular and expensive. #Jasmine #Chanelno5 #Fashionindustry #Fashiondesigner #Corsets #Fashion #InèsdelaFressange #HouseofChanel #Broadwaymusical #Paris #Chanelscouturehouse #Perfume #WorldWarII #Chanel #Nazi #Littleblackdress #KatharineHepburn #Dress #France #KarlLagerfeld #French #Hautecouture #Petticoats #Jewelry #Scent #ErnstBeaux #CocoChanel SEARCH Why does Fashion Need Fashion Shows FASHION From Dreams To Crowns: Anuradha Garg’s Inspiring Mrs. India Story FASHION Colour Psychology in Fashion: Explained FASHION Legendary Female Icons Who Made Fashion Statements In The 20th Century FASHION The House of Chanel: History FASHION POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement By Teyana Sharma Mastering Modern Elegance: 7 Ferragamo Pieces to Elevate Your Everyday 7 June 2026 FASHION By Sakshi Shah PUMA x Superkicks Turn Indian Summer Nostalgia Into A Sneaker With The Palermo Jamun 15 May 2026 FASHION By Sakshi Shah Absent Findings Feels Like It Knows Exactly What It’s Doing 6 May 2026 FASHION By Sakshi Shah Emporio Armani SS26 Is What Effortless Actually Looks Like Right Now 13 April 2026 FASHION RELATED POSTS Advertisement

As 2025 approaches, Mocha Mousse is stealing the spotlight–and for all the right reasons. Hold up! This rich, warm and indulgent brown isn’t just any colour; it’s a whole mood. From influencing fashion and interiors to branding and product design, Pantone’s shade of the year ‘decides’ what’s next, setting the tone (quite literally) for the year ahead! As Laurie Pressman , Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute puts it: “For Pantone Color of the Year 2025, we look to a mellow brown hue whose inherent richness and sensorial and comforting warmth that extends further into our desire for comfort and the indulgence of simple pleasures that we can gift and share with others.” Mocha Mousse is exactly that—a comforting, grounding tone that invites us to slow down and savour life's little luxuries. - Vitiligo's Representation In Fashion
Vitiligo's Representation In Fashion By Anushka Sharma Vitiligo's Representation In Fashion 15 March 2024 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement In recent years, the fashion industry has made significant strides in embracing diversity and inclusivity, challenging traditional beauty standards and celebrating individuality. One of the most notable shifts has been the increased representation of individuals with vitiligo, a skin condition characterized by the loss of pigment in certain areas of the skin, resulting in white patches. Historically, the fashion industry has been criticized for its narrow portrayal of beauty, often favoring models with flawless, uniform skin tones. However, in a welcome departure from this norm, many fashion brands and designers have begun to cast models with vitiligo, recognizing the unique beauty and strength they bring to the runway. One of the pioneers in promoting vitiligo representation in fashion is the late model Winnie Harlow. Discovered on the hit television show "America's Next Top Model," Harlow has since become a prominent figure in the fashion world, using her platform to raise awareness about vitiligo and advocate for greater inclusivity in the industry. Her success has inspired other models with vitiligo to pursue careers in fashion, breaking down barriers and challenging perceptions along the way. Fashion brands have also played a crucial role in promoting diversity by featuring models with vitiligo in their campaigns and runway shows. From high-end luxury labels to mainstream retailers, brands are increasingly embracing models of all skin types and colors, reflecting the diverse spectrum of beauty in society. Beyond the runway, vitiligo representation in fashion has also extended to advertising and marketing campaigns. Major beauty brands have featured models with vitiligo in their advertisements, sending a powerful message of acceptance and empowerment to consumers around the world. These campaigns not only promote diversity but also help to destigmatize skin conditions like vitiligo, encouraging individuals to embrace their unique characteristics with confidence. In addition to fostering greater representation, the fashion industry has also seen a rise in the creation of clothing lines specifically designed for individuals with vitiligo. These lines often feature garments with innovative designs and color-blocking techniques, helping individuals with vitiligo to feel more comfortable and confident in their clothing choices. Furthermore, the rise of social media has provided a platform for individuals with vitiligo to share their stories and connect with others who may be experiencing similar challenges. Through platforms like Instagram and YouTube, influencers and advocates with vitiligo have been able to amplify their voices, raising awareness and promoting acceptance in the fashion community and beyond. While progress has undoubtedly been made, there is still much work to be done to ensure that individuals with vitiligo are fully represented and included in the fashion industry. This includes not only increasing visibility on the runway and in advertising but also advocating for greater accessibility and inclusivity in the design and production of clothing. In conclusion, vitiligo's representation in fashion marks a significant step forward in the ongoing journey towards greater diversity and inclusivity. By celebrating the beauty of individuality and challenging traditional beauty standards, the fashion industry has the power to inspire change and foster a more inclusive society for all. - A Soirée In Satin: Maison Amory’s AW Reverie
A Soirée In Satin: Maison Amory’s AW Reverie By Ananya Patankar A Soirée In Satin: Maison Amory’s AW Reverie 12 July 2025 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement From L.A. Soirées to Bangkok Showcase Founded in Los Angeles, Maison Amory is known for its romantic ethos. Previously celebrated for their Resort 2025 ‘Soirée’—a homage to intimate celebrations with vintage silhouettes, evening tones, fur trims, and sequins—this latest AW ’25–26 collection continues that narrative with a refined elegance Beneath the soft glow of the runway, Maison Amory revealed its Autumn/Winter 2025–26 collection in a display of signature restraint and elegance. Known for their romantic silhouettes and vintage glamour, the Los Angeles-based label transitioned seamlessly from resort-ready charm to seasonal sophistication. The collection was a quiet spectacle—sequins catching the light like memories, fur trims framing modern classics—anchored in the label’s signature elegance and designed for evenings that linger longer than the night. Maison Amory is a label rooted in romanticism, with a distinctly West Coast lens. Hailing from Los Angeles, the brand has become synonymous with refined silhouettes, vintage flourishes, and a quiet glamour. Their recent Resort 2025 collection, titled Soirée, was an ode to holiday traditions and intimate celebrations—think sequins, fur trims, and moonlit hues. That same spirit carries into their Autumn/Winter ’25–26 edit, where timeless evening wear meets the cool sophistication of seasonal dressing. For Maison Amory, every piece feels like a memory in motion—made to be worn, remembered, and revisited. Maison Amory’s Autumn/Winter ’25–26 collection is an ode to after-dark elegance—where glamour lingers in the details and every look feels like a soft-spoken celebration. Silhouettes embrace vintage nostalgia: where cinched waists, full skirts, draped sleeves, meet dramatic cape coats. There’s a poised restraint in the tailoring, balanced by rich textures and embellishments that catch the light. Velvet—plush and weighty—anchors the collection, appearing in gowns, outerwear, and even delicately piped blouses. Dark sequins lend understated sparkle, while fur details at the collar and cuffs elevate each look with timeless refinement. Satin and jacquard weave throughout, offering structure and sheen in equal measure. The hues suggest a slow-fading dusk—moody and rich, yet delicately lit with hints of candlelight and vintage cream. It’s a wardrobe crafted for intimate occasions—holiday dinners, winter galas, or quiet nights that deserve to feel special. Each ensemble walks the line between timeless and contemporary, with separates that lend themselves to layering and long gowns that speak of storybook elegance. Maison Amory’s ability to distill sentiment into silhouette is what makes this collection more than seasonal fashion—it becomes a winter memory, worn in motion. Set against the high arches and ambient lighting of Bangkok’s Benedict Studio, Maison Amory’s runway show felt like stepping into a private soiree. Thailand Fashion Week , increasingly and global platform for emerging and established designers, offered the perfect stage for the label’s refined storytelling. The audience, an elegant mix of press, stylists, and Southeast Asia's fashion insiders, watched in near reverence as each look unfolded. Unlike louder, trend chasing spectacles, this presentation was quietly confident, inviting viewers to slow down and take in the craftsmanship. In a region balancing tradition with modern luxury, Amory’s aesthetic struck a resonant, romantic chord. The collection speaks to the modern woman who dresses with intention—balancing elegance with longevity. Designed for climates that transition gently into cooler months, the pieces layer effortlessly: capes over gowns, sequined separates under tailored coats. This makes the collection especially resonant across Asian markets, where festive dressing often meets subtle seasonal shifts. With its investment-worthy quality and timeless aesthetic, the line caters to a clientele that values craftsmanship over trend. In Amory’s world, evening wear isn’t occasional—it’s essential. Each piece is built to outlast seasons, serving as heirloom staples for wardrobes that dress up with purpose. Maison Amory’s AW ’25–26 offering isn’t just a collection—it’s a quiet manifesto of modern romance, where elegance isn’t seasonal, it’s eternal. - Cancel Culture
Cancel Culture LIFESTYLE Cancel Culture by Akash Khatri 1 November 2020 Advertisement Cancel culture, a social media phenomenon where active social media users seek to remove the clout of a celebrity who says or does something offensive by ‘cancelling’ them. Basically, the ‘cancel’ here means to cancel out or end a person’s career in reaction to his or her unacceptable behaviour or action. For instance, if there is a celebrity or any public figure who makes a misogynistic, racist, casteist, or sexist statement or commits an act of sexual crime, there could be calls to boycott the actor’s films and other works, exile him or her from all public events and disconnect the person from all the social alliances. As a result, the person is ‘cancelled’ culturally, socially, economically and politically. There are two types of cancel culture, first one a call-out culture. Here, the responsible individual is mortified publicly on social media for his or her statements and the resulting outcry hold them accountable for their fallacy. The second variant is more serious. Here, the celebrity is called out on social media and a larger mass boycotts his or her products or services, eventually bringing a full stop to their careers. Most of the times it gets much wider and substantial or controversial but the immense recognition cancel culture enjoys, especially among teenagers and young adults, makes it one of the most controlling movements in recent times. One of the main critiques of cancel culture is that it’s making people more bigoted, quick to judge and banish those who even slightly disagree with them. Cancel culture doesn’t leave any room for constructive discourse because social media users often deliver a quick decision, based on a snap judgment, to a celebrity they view as offensive — leaving no opportunity for them to put forward their explanation on their act and make their case against their own ‘cancellation.’ But people tend to forget — whether a celebrity is canceled or not, it is up to the celebrity themself, not on those wanting to cancel them. Though targeting someone will not just affect them, but their mental health and the livelihood of many related to them, and that’s not just. However, ending someone’s career completely is easier said than done. Not many entities have had their careers completely shut down due to the negative views on the internet. Actor and activist Jameela Jamil, has said that this phenomenon is a “pointless waste of time.” But, then again, the term is utilsed among so many, that to figure out if the phenomenon is negative or positive have been made indistinct. The principal questions are: Has social media simply given another name to something that is going to exist for a lifetime? Does this phenomenon really exist when cancelling someone doesn’t mostly work forever? Does the idea of being cancelled stop awful content? Or is it just another trend that is being followed blindly? - Data saving the future environment
SOCIETY by Aparajita Jaiswal Data saving the future environment 1 June 2021 SOCIETY Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement There’s a famous scene in Game of Thrones.Littlefinger says that knowledge is power, and Cersei responds by almost having him killed, and then making her personal guards do stupid guard tricks, to prove that actually, no — power is power. Put that into today’s context, with virtual workplaces and connections overpowering real life ones, Data is power. It’s an increasingly valuable resource, a lot of it still untapped by AI which generates itself to infinite quantities, be it cryptocurrency or Data is also very easy to generate and transport with newer insights being gained from old data. - Unscripted, Unstoppable: The Many Lives Of Christine Gulasatree
Unscripted, Unstoppable: The Many Lives Of Christine Gulasatree By Ananya Patankar Unscripted, Unstoppable: The Many Lives Of Christine Gulasatree 22 August 2025 COVER STORIES Advertisement The first thing you notice about Christine Gulasatree isn’t her beauty, though she has the kind of presence that can hold a camera lens still. It’s the energy—the restless spark she carries into a room, alive and uncontainable. It radiates in the way she speaks, in the way she moves, in the way her story keeps unfolding as if one medium could never be enough to contain it. Model. Actress. Singer-songwriter. Each of those titles fits her, but none of them capture her whole. To meet Christine is to understand that she’s less interested in labels than in the art of becoming. She is, above all, a storyteller—one who has learned that expression doesn’t need boundaries, only honesty. “I feel like I’m just a human who loves to do a lot of activities. An enthusiastic human,” she says with an easy laugh, brushing off the weight of a résumé that would intimidate most at 29. That humility disguises more than a decade of persistence, of carving out space in industries where resilience is the only currency. Born and raised in Bangkok, Christine grew up at the intersection of cultures—Thai, Chinese, and German—where expression was encouraged, and curiosity was never a fault. By fifteen, she had stepped into the whirlwind of modeling, chasing both ambition and the thrill of doing what few around her dared. “I didn’t know much about the industry, only that it looked cool and exciting,” she remembers. What followed was a baptism by fire. The fashion world was sharp, quick, and unforgiving. Christine stayed anyway. “Maybe I just wanted to prove people wrong,” she admits. “But then I realized it wasn’t about them—it was about me. About building the life I wanted.” Her look—delicate yet commanding—made her a fixture on Bangkok’s runways and in campaigns. Modeling gave her a stage, but not a voice. That hunger for more creative avenues eventually led her elsewhere. By 2018, Christine was no longer just striding under spotlights but standing in front of film cameras, playing her first role in The Judgement , a Thai drama. The shift was revelatory. “Acting was different from modeling. With acting, you can inhabit emotions that aren’t yours. You can tell stories that cut deeper than appearances. I loved that.” One role led to another— Wolf (2019), Pattaya Heat (2024)—each step sharpening her craft. But it was Netflix’s Reverse 4 You , a fantasy-romance released in 2024, that altered the trajectory of her career. Christine had her first leading role, and with it, a younger, more devoted audience. “When I became an actress two years ago, I suddenly had young fans,” she recalls, her voice softening. “And I realized I didn’t just want to entertain. I wanted to be real. I wanted to be a role model.” That desire to connect—to inspire—pushed her into music. For Christine, songwriting became something rawer than scripts or runways, a place to pour the unfiltered pieces of herself. “Music feels like my most honest form of expression,” she explains. “Modeling and acting are beautiful, but they’re interpretations of something outside me. Music is just me.” To her, there’s no divide between these worlds. They’re simply different branches of the same restless spirit, each one allowing her to step into a new version of herself. Her inspirations, she says, were there all along—in films she watched as a child, in music that echoed through her home, even in toys that carried stories of their own. “Those things made me want to create something of my own one day,” she smiles. That day, it seems, has arrived. Now, whether she’s walking a runway, embodying a character, or strumming out melodies, Christine’s compass is the same: authenticity. She wants to remind others—especially young women—that identity is not fixed, and the courage to evolve is its own art form. “I’m still learning, still growing,” she says, unafraid of the uncertainty. “But if I can show people, especially young girls, that it’s okay to take your own path—no matter how many times it changes—then that’s enough.” For Christine Gulasatree, the future isn’t about narrowing down to one label. It’s about claiming them all, without apology. A model who dares to act. An actress who dares to sing. A storyteller who refuses to stay in one lane. A restless, luminous spirit who keeps proving that passion, when paired with courage, always finds its voice. Lana Scolaro: Breaking Barriers In The Male-Dominated Music Industry by Anushka Sharma Lana Scolaro: Breaking Barriers In The Male-Dominated Music Industry 2 March 2023 COVER STORIES Advertisement Lana Scolaro, a rising star in the electronic music scene, has been breaking barriers in the male-dominated industry since she first stepped behind the decks. Hailing from Ibiza, the birthplace of electronic music, Lana's passion for music began at a young age. She played the cello and keyboard and was surrounded by DJs and music every summer. This exposure sparked her interest in pursuing a career as a DJ. In an industry where men dominate the scene, Lana faced some challenges as a female DJ. Some venues and people did not take her seriously due to her ultra-feminine style and look. However, Lana did not let this deter her from achieving her dreams. She persevered, constantly producing music, and releasing at least one song a month. She also participated in podcasts, interviews, and radio shows, always looking for new sounds to keep her relevant in the industry. As an artist, Lana has a unique vision that she balances with the demands of the music industry and her fans. Currently, she is incorporating her creative vision in the digital metaverse, where she has created her own dream house that is already in the NFT Oasis. This way, her music can be displayed, and fans can watch her in concert in the digital world. Lana is continuously evolving, and her creative vision is evident in her work. Throughout her career, Lana has been influenced by several artists, including Solomun, Santiago Garcia, Rami Bedouin, and Luciano, whom she watched perform in Ibiza. However, Gwen Stefani is the artist she looks up to the most. She adores Gwen Stefani's music, and she loves her style. Lana relates to the emotions that go into Gwen Stefani's songs and finds her inspiring. Apart from music, Lana loves painting and producing short animation projects. If not a DJ, she would have chosen to be an actress or a painter. When asked about her advice to aspiring female DJs, she encourages them to keep practicing and mixing on CDJs. She also advises them to put their music out on SoundCloud, YouTube, and every platform possible to be heard. Showcasing your music and getting feedback from fans is crucial to success. Touring and traveling can be challenging, but Lana manages to balance her personal and professional life with four phones. One of her most memorable performances was at the Texas Road to Nowhere Festival. It was her first time in Texas, and she was not supposed to play, but her good friend Chanel West Coast put her on stage and let her perform her single "Rick Ross." Lana envisions the future of the music industry as a digital metaverse, where people can watch her DJ in the virtual world. Her current and future projects include collaborating with brands in the fashion industry, producing a unique track with a male artist, and working on a new collection for her jewelry line LS Diamonds. With her drive, creativity, and passion for music, Lana Scolaro is sure to make waves in the industry and continue breaking barriers for female DJs. - Coping with Confinement
SOCIETY by Akash Khatri Coping with Confinement 26 July 2020 SOCIETY Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement The earlier days of the pandemic caused a furore and great hullabulla. Great chaos everywhere, no school, no maids, work from home and still ambiguous about the situation ahead as we approach towards the end of lockdown four. During this whole topsy turvy journey gradually it seems we have become more human. A transition from a dependant to a more independent working – subtracting the maids and a more gadget-free atmosphere. During this whole transition period, I treasured dormant talent of my personality, as I could steal some time for trying out solo singing, penning down my thoughts to create short stories, experimenting in the kitchen and even nailed the unusual skill of giving men a haircut. Today I had lessons of stitching from my mom-in-law and found that it’s not that tedious and tricky as I had thought, of course, one needs to be lucky to have a good teacher beside you as my MIL is. I tried my hand on tailoring too, thanks to the lockdown. All and all it’s so much fun being indoors with family, doing crazy things and enjoying the nearness, attention as well as helping hand of the spouse. Above all, the level of tolerance has reached its acme and this habit I would always wish could be deep-rooted within me forever. At last, it took a microscopic-organism to make us more human. #LockdownPandemicIndependentConfinement SEARCH Why India is the most depressed country in the world?
