  • Rules, London

by Akash Khatri Rules, London 1 December 2021 TRAVEL Advertisement Advertisement When you think of the British culture, the one thing that comes to everyone’s mind is – the word ‘posh’. And what about the British food culture? Like every other part of the world, the UK has a conventional, classic, comforting and unique food. And what’s better than London’s oldest restaurant for getting a glimpse of the classic British cuisine? Rules, London’s oldest and finest restaurant was built in 1798 by Thomas Rule, in Covent Garden. The restaurant began as an oyster bar. Writers at the time rule started, admired the “rakes dandies and superior intelligence’s”. Not only has ‘Rules’ fed some of the world-famous writers such as Charles Dickens and William Thackeray but also has been mentioned in some great novels by John le Carrè and Claire Rayner. A cosy restaurant with an equally comforting bar, Rules gives one the feels of both- countryside and city. The classic British food on the menu is a great match with the friendly and luxurious service. Right from the moment you enter and leave your coat at the door, the place feels like you’ve actually entered the 18th century definition of ‘luxury’. Dining amongst the golden interiors, velvet red chairs like those in the old times and mahogany furniture, is an unexpected grandeur. And if you happen to visit on a Sunday, you might be lucky enough to see the bottle-green, vintage Rolls Royce- named ‘Bubbles’ in front of the restaurant. Coming to the food, Rules has a surprisingly wide choice on the menu. And it’s clearly obvious that after a huge success of 222 years, the food is outstanding. There’s a variety on the menu that displays the impeccable take on British delicacy perfectly served in fine silverware, brings forth the traditional flavours. When it comes to desserts, this is one restaurant in London with an amazingly evocative selection of sweet treats. And if you still haven’t had your fill, the cocktail bar upstairs gives you a choice of any cocktail of your liking with an elegant Rules twist. Rules is a heritage restaurant, with a fine collection of antique cartoons, drawings and paintings. The tradition is one of the most important features. This extremely comforting piece of history is full of life and yet takes you to a different era. With their crimson and gold carpets , and velvet lined booths, every inch of Rules depicts rich heritage. The menu is the best-of-British classics featuring native oysters, traditional beef, pies – fish or chicken, leek and mushroom. And you’ll be treated like an old friend from the moment you enter, as you’re greeted by the doorman. And you’ll be leaving with a satisfied heart and appetite and a smiling face. • Fashion Pieces That Will Never Go Out Of Style

by Priti Sharma Fashion Pieces That Will Never Go Out Of Style 6 November 2022 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement Our sense of style is quite individual to us; it's a fantastic and special method to showcase our personalities while being at ease and making a significant statement about who we are. However, maintaining a current wardrobe and feeling great in our outfits may be challenging in our ever-evolving society and trends. Yes, being current with fashion trends will keep you current, but every genuine fashionista understands that you must invest in a few timeless pieces if you want to stay in style. If you want to seem effortlessly put together, making purchases of wardrobe essentials is the way to go. Fear not, though; despite the constant influx of new fashion fads, there are a few timeless essentials that we can always rely on, no matter what the most recent trend may be. In addition to being fashionable, these kinds of clothes will make your outfits seem to be put together and prevent you from making impulsive purchases. Do you have any upcoming shopping or wardrobe updates? Here are a few timeless pieces of clothes that will always be in fashion: Black Skinny Jeans I am aware that Gen Z is at war with thin jeans. Mom jeans are also a great way to switch up your look. But nothing can match or take the place of a black pair of slim jeans for a timeless, polished appearance. They won't take attention away from your gorgeous face while still giving every body shape a wonderful, feminine silhouette. Dark skinnies have the advantage of being both dressy when paired with a lovely top and shoes and informal when worn with a tee and sneakers. Your trusty black skinny jeans will never fail you. Classic Heels One heel never goes out of style: the traditional pump. Other heels, such as strappy, clunky, lace-up, or platform heels, come and go. Sometimes all you need is a pair of timeless shoes to instantly dress up an ensemble. They instantly give us a bit more height, lengthen our legs, and are easy to put on and take off. Simple heels are always a good choice, whether you're wearing them with jeans, a pencil skirt, a pantsuit, or a fancy dress. A White V-Neck Tee Hear us out: Although this might sound simple (or perhaps too simple), we've discovered that less is frequently more when it comes to long-lasting wardrobe necessities. A white t-shirt can be worn with anything; you can dress it up by tucking it into a long skirt or be cool and casual by letting it dangle from your favorite shorts. White t-shirts aren't spectacular, but they're always a nice option and let other pieces stand out while serving as a wonderful foundation. A Little Black Dress The current flowery maxi dress trend that we see streaming across our feeds is easy to get sucked into and fascinated with, but the little black dress has never stopped being a timeless option that gives its user a feeling of mystery, elegance, and timelessness. Knowing you have an excellent choice for practically every event in your go-to LBD will always make those difficult selections simpler. A Chunky Pullover Sweater If you're going to remain warm, at least do it stylishly! Chunky sweaters are basic, uncomplicated garments that will always make us feel both put-together and appropriate for the season, from the moment the fall leaves start to change until the spring temperatures start to rise. A bulky sweater may look good whether you tuck it into a skirt and wear knee-high boots with it or wear it with your favorite pair of jeans. A Leather Jacket Thanks to leather jackets, even the most basic outfits may be spiced up in less than ten seconds. Additionally, the leather jacket looks great with nearly everything and there is a tonne of faux-leather alternatives available that feel much like genuine leather. Wear it to liven up an otherwise too plain ensemble of jeans and a t-shirt or pair it with a flowery, feminine dress to add some edge to your appearance. A Pea Coat Even though we have to bundle up during the colder months, we still want to appear stylish, right? Thankfully, there are several jackets available to select from, but the pea coat is unrivaled in terms of fashion and practicality. This coat matches any outfit, will never go out of style, gives you a classy look, and will genuinely keep you warm. It comes in an amazingly broad selection of colors (try red if you're feeling brave!). Changing fashion trends are possible. Yet, timeless clothing never goes out of style. It's always a good idea to invest in classic pieces of clothes since they make it easier for you to seem put together and well dressed. Just be careful to choose items that complement your body type and style preferences. #Fashion #Style #NeverGoOutOfStyle #LittleBlackDress #WhiteVneckTshirt #ClassicHeels #LeatherJacket SEARCH The Rich Heritage of Indian Handloom FASHION Fashion In The 19th Century FASHION Colour Psychology in Fashion: Explained FASHION The Influence Of Kanye West On Fashion FASHION K-Pop Fashion And Its Impact On Global Wardrobe FASHION POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement By Anushka Sharma These Fashion Trends Are Literally Scary For Your Health 1 April 2024 FASHION By Anushka Sharma India Is Finally Having A Major Fashion Moment 23 March 2024 FASHION By Anushka Sharma Fashion Trends: What's Hot In 2024 22 March 2024 FASHION By Anushka Sharma Is Africa The Next World Leader In Fashion 20 March 2024 FASHION RELATED POSTS

  • How To Find And Where To Look For Your Ikigai

by Aarti Singh How To Find And Where To Look For Your Ikigai 29 October 2022 LIFESTYLE Advertisement Ikigai (生き甲斐), a Japanese concept which means purpose of living. To put it simply, a reason of being. The cause for which you wake up every morning. Something that gives you direction in life. Something that moves you and gives you a reason to keep trying, keep going on, no matter what. Your purpose needn’t be as huge as World Peace. Infact the one time you should be truly and genuinely selfish is while looking for the purpose of your life. Your purpose should be yours only. It should be special and personal to you. Afterall it’s yours. It’s yours to build, it’s yours to work upon, it’s yours to wake up to, it’s yours to sleep to, it’s yours to dream, it’s yours to achieve. Your purpose, your calling is the one thing in the world that is completely yours and no one else can take it from you. Your reason does not need to make sense to anyone but you. And you know what, it should not. It makes sense to you, and that’s enough because you’re the only one who gets a say in this matter. You might think that the most critical decisions in your lives are maybe your choice of subject, or your partner, or maybe the college you want to go to. But no, the most important decision of your life is whether you really want to find your purpose or whether you want to lead a life without ever knowing your full-potential. Because your full potential can only be unlocked when you’re doing something you love whole heartedly and believe in. Your Ikigai is something so very personal. Just like that diary you made when you were a teenager. Your purpose consists of all your failures, your hardships, your success, your attempts, your good days, your bad days, your self-doubt, everything. But most importantly, it has seen you try even when you were at your lowest and were considering to give up. But you know what the most tiresome part of this process is? It’s not the numerous failures. It’s definitely not the self-doubt. It is the search. The search for you Ikigai. The search for your purpose. Maybe you haven’t found your purposed yet. Or maybe your purpose hasn’t found you yet. But that, my friend, is the beauty of it. That you can go look for it yourself. You can look for it right now if you want. Look for it in the deepest darkest crevices of those nights where nothing seemed to make sense, look for it in the firs ray of sunshine on the mornings which felt like a new start, look for it in the classes that always felt useless, look for it in the clouds which were too stormy and in the silver rays of hope which shone after it, look for it in the daydreams that you’d rather live in and look for it in the nightmare you never wanna relive. Your reason will start as a dream initially. It will seem like something that you have to achieve one day. Sometimes it may also seem like a hazy wish but you have the power to make it your reality because it isn’t something you achieve, no, it is something that you cherish everyday as you wake up. It is not a pedestal, it is something in you, that makes you, you. Your purpose should be yours only. It should be special and personal to you. Afterall it’s yours. • Mannat Singh, the story of an aspiring actress

by Aparajita Jaiswal Mannat Singh, the story of an aspiring actress 28 September 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement Advertisement Mannat Singh is not just a successful model but also an aspiring actress and found a passion for acting through pure serendipity. A young, goofy, introvert whose life changed when she entered the world of modeling through Miss India, moving out of her shell. "I thought that there's so much more that I could do and I'm not just this shy person. I can go out there in the world and try to have big dreams and I can achieve whatever I want if I put my mind to it," Mannat goes on tell us "I am really glad that I took that scary step of coming to a different city from a town where everything was my comfort alongside my my family. Taking that leap of faith, coming here and working for my dreams every day, I feel like that is commendable and that is the reason that I do this. I want to be an actor and I love what I do. I love where my life is going to go and the direction that I'm on. And that's all that I've got." Mannat Singh expresses how as an actor she wishes to bring the character to life and also be true to the character she is playing. As an actor you're always striving and being fearless enough to take chances. "The whole point acting us to bring the character to life. Everybody has a process which is very different and it's a very subjective thing. It differs from person to person, actor to actor. So I don't think there's a set way of performing this art but I feel it depends on the person and the actor." There are several stages of being an actor in a show or a film. There are certain thrilling aspects and there are certain parts where hard work and focus is key. Mannat comments on the same, "I feel that I embrace and enjoy the whole process. From getting the script and reading the script, understanding the writer's point of view to actually bringing the character to life and adding my own personal touch, the whole process is extremely thrilling to me. When you're auditioning and you're going about the scene and performing in front of people, I feel like there comes a point for me where I'm knee deep into the character that I start improvising. So, when I'm improvising, I am really getting under the skin of the character and it's just coming really naturally to me. That is the point where I know that I can do this. That particular point is very exciting and thrilling for me." "Not having explored many genres yet, I would be really excited to do a thriller or mystery film or show but the most difficult genre to perform, in my opinion, is comedy, because I feel like if you can make the audience laugh and you know it all comes with ease to you, is the most difficult thing to do. If ever got a chance, I'm sure that I'll have to work really hard. As a person, I believe I'm funny and have a good sense of humor but while performing a comedic role, I believe it will be one of the most difficult things to do but I’d still like to explore that." Having asked what present day mega director inspires her and she would like to be directed by, Mannat answers with a slight glow in her eye as she talks about her inspiration, "The filmmaker that inspires me the most and that I would love to work with in the future is Sanjay Leela Bhansali as I have just really liked his work since I was a little child. I've been watching him since Devdas and then I absolutely loved guzaarish and Ram Leela, eventually all the series that he's made, all the great films that he's made till date. I like his process, the way that he makes his characters a certain way, the whole direction process and it's just very thrilling to the eye from an audience's point of view. I would like to be directed by him." Mannat believes that as an actor we must pursue and the amount of effort and work one puts in their art will always prove fruitful. As an actor, with all hardships one faces, one must always keep going and pushing their boundaries without a shadow of doubt. She speaks about her father who is a motivational speaker, she says he always said, "Mannat you will be really glad if you give it your all, if you have tried really hard as you’ll never have regrets. Don't give up. This is my dream and this is what I want to work for. That's stuck with me and that's what I tell myself. Even on days when I'm feeling low, I don't get up and I'm not able to do what I want to but there are days that you have to pick yourself up and remind yourself of the purpose that you have aspired to achieve." The filmmaker that inspires me the most and that I would love to work with in the future is Sanjay Leela Bhansali as I have just really liked his work since I was a little child. • The Road To Independence Is Paved With More Than Just Likes, Said Deeksha Gupta

by Akshra Khandelwal The Road To Independence Is Paved With More Than Just Likes, Said Deeksha Gupta 4 September 2023 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement In the ever-evolving realm of social media, where the pursuit of authenticity and success often converge, a vibrant star emerges whose journey is as inspiring as it is genuine. Deeksha Gupta, the name that has been weaving its way into the digital tapestry, welcomed us into her world for a candid conversation about her rise as an influencer, the transformative power of collaborations, and the unwavering drive to stay true to oneself. With a refreshing blend of humility and ambition, Deeksha unveiled her story, reflecting on the rollercoaster of "almost" blooming days that shaped her path. From her humble beginnings with around 40,000 followers, she made it clear that her focus was always on authenticity. "I never want to do collaborations, and I like posting whatever I feel like that shows the real me," she often told her close circle. Yet, fate had its plans. A turning point emerged when Deeksha decided to leap of faith and say yes to her first brand collaboration. The outcome was beyond her expectations, as she pocketed a considerable 10,000 units of her chosen currency. The impact was profound – a newfound sense of independence and the pride of making her parents' hearts swell with joy ignited a relentless fire within her. As we sipped our chosen beverages, Deeksha playfully shared her signature style and described her as an ode to comfort with a hint of style. "It has to be a white top and dark blue denim or shorts. But let's not forget those essential cycling shorts – they're an absolute must. Comfort shouldn't compromise style," she quipped. Moving beyond the fashion realm, Deeksha invited us into her fitness journey. With a disciplined approach, she embraced a weekly "push, pull, & legs" routine, while her abs found their strength through a dedicated circuit routine. But it wasn't all about physical prowess; Deeksha's sanctuary lay in the moments of unwinding that marked her day's end. "I believe that the moments of unwinding are sacred," Deeksha shared with a smile that held the wisdom of experience. She detailed her cherished ritual with an almost poetic description – stepping into her room, shedding the layers of makeup, and engaging in heartfelt conversations with her confidantes over a call. "It's my favorite part of the day," she admitted, "a time when I can truly be myself and recharge." Deeksha's love for skincare emerged as a common thread during these serene moments. The diligent application of creams and serums was complemented by a central ritual that spoke volumes about her character – tidying her room. "It may sound 'small,' I guess," she mused, "but I find it essential. Going to bed with everything in order sets the tone for the next day." The conversation turned toward aspirations, and Deeksha's eyes lit up with a dream she had been nurturing. "I want to collaborate with Dyson," she confessed. The aim was more than just a product acquisition; it was a testament to her determination and vision of success. "I could buy it, sure," she acknowledged, "but there's something magical about collaborating with a brand that resonates with you." Deeksha's journey, marked by dedication and a desire to prove herself, has been punctuated by challenges and lessons. "I learned this the hard way," she reflected, "but giving up or losing heart is never an option." She cautioned against getting carried away by fleeting successes, urging fellow content creators to persist even when the metrics seem unfavourable. "Keep creating content regardless of the engagement. It'll always be you versus you," she affirmed. As our conversation drew close, Deeksha shared her vision for the future – driven by kindness and grounded in humility. "I look forward to being kinder and down-to-earth," she said, her eyes gleaming with resolve. "Making my loved ones proud is what fuels my spirit." In the realm of influencers, where facades can be as captivating as they are deceiving, Deeksha Gupta stands out as a beacon of authenticity. Her journey, shaped by triumphs and trials, is an inspiring reminder that success is not just about numbers but the relentless pursuit of one's passions. With her heart set on the horizon, Deeksha Gupta continues to carve her unique path, reminding us that the journey is as important as the destination and that staying true to oneself is the most potent influence. I decided to get into a routine to make a cover everyday and worked on composing. This led me to release around 7 songs in 2020 which was a great feeling. It has been incredible to see the way India has digitized over the last two years, an immense amount of technological progress." Speaking of success, it's one of the most beautiful feelings in the entire world; when reality strikes an artist! It just glows over the body and the mind, when the artist makes it big in the industry. However, Raveena does not recollect any such moment where she realized she was going big, but continues to say, "I don't think there was ever such a moment where I realised I was going big, but when I was approached to demo with 'Casanova Acoustic', that felt pretty great! Reality striking was never a daunting thing, reality is also what you make of it and depends on how you are viewing your cup, hopefully always half full. I also believe maintaining a small inner circle is one of the most important things to remain grounded and level headed in a whirlwind of an industry." Raveena is not only successful nationally but recognised for her talent all over the globe, at film festivals and red carpets. Raveena exclaims gratefully, "For artists, it is always incredible to be able to see your work being recognised globally. I find it endearing when my Hindi songs are appreciated in Cannes. When I was there for the Film festival, it felt brilliant to know the music that comes from India is so sought after." Singing soulfully has always reached to the most interior bosom of a being and in doing so, Raveena Mehta has attained incredulous levels of success! "I define success with deriving happiness. I tend to keep myself and my headspace quite process oriented and so I find happiness in smaller, process driven moments. Of course, when I release a song and I can see that people appreciate the music, that most definitely also makes me feel successful. Success for me means earning respect and focusing on my happiness." When the appreciation of fans and people hits, the gaze is difficult to handle. The expectations, the build ups or the love is tedious and risky to respond to! Raveena truly respects all her listeners and fans, understanding that respecting them would earn her respect! "I truly respect all my listeners and fans. I feel blessed to know that people out there listen to and appreciate my music. I try to meet their expectations with my music. I truly feel like as an artist, you have to strike a balance between the things that want to be heard from you and the things you wish to create, remaining authentic and yourself. There’s a happy medium in there somewhere." When the audience speculate rumours, or show disrespect towards the art and the song, many artists feel undervalued. Everyone is entitled to their own tastes and opinions. To this day, in the world, the fear of a song being perceived incorrectly, is tremendous and has the capacity of wrecking one's mental health. Raveena, reflects on both, the expectations of people as well as one's mental health. "In my opinion, music is art and ultimately art is subjective and open to interpretation. To that point, I feel it becomes imperative to try to detach yourself from the work to an extent; so you can allow the work to grow and evolve wholeheartedly. I personally don't think I have ever felt too worried about a song being misinterpreted or misunderstood." Raveena also talks about how one's mental peace is key while working in a creative field. Creating can only be brought forward with a clear mind and peaceful environment. "Mental health is everything. I believe strongly in preserving one's mental sanctity, constantly focusing on self betterment and doing the things that make you the best version of yourself. These are definitely deliberate efforts and as for me, singing and drawing is therapeutic and it definitely helps me remain in touch with myself." Having said that, a lot of discipline is required from one's team as well. Every form of art, including a well produced album requires a strong and disciplined team. Raveena also comments on the same saying, "One annoying trait for me is tardiness, I generally find it annoying especially if it is concerning work for example in the form of a meeting. But hey, I also recognise that Mumbai traffic is also very hectic." Hectic schedules and a demanding creative field, on several instances, can also lead to mind blocks. Raveena adds, "If I ever have a mind block while i’m working, I tend to take some time for myself; I either go for a walk or do something that brings me a lot of peace. I try to disassociate any kind of pressure that is possibly creating a wall between my thoughts and inspiration." This global icon reinforced the importance of being true to herself while retaining the soul of her music and the integrity of her sound. However while acknowledging all of it, she remarked on a very beautiful note, "I find that sometimes in chasing trends, it is very easy to lose the soul of the music. In today's age with reels, tiktok and instant gratification which is equally as important to generating viewership, this can also be a double edged sword. While a lot of today's artists consider trends, it is also important to consider and retain the soul and integrity of your sound." • Barkha Singh’s candid candour makes the way to an eye-catching interview

by Aparajita Jaiswal Barkha Singh’s candid candour makes the way to an eye-catching interview 6 April 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement Advertisement Barkha Singh , an actor, and content creator, digs up some fewer known facts and details about her journey with interviewer Kavya Gupta. The conversation gets more exciting as Barkha discusses her YouTube Channel, her growth as an actor and a content creator, her experience shooting with Sushmita Sen and much more! Barkha Singh started her career in acting in 2015 in an MTV show. She claims that her Instagram and YouTube Content Creation were “by-products” of her acting experience. “Because of the MTV show, my Instagram handle suddenly started, skyrocketing. I was growing 20k-30k every day on Instagram. Before this, I didn’t even know content creation is a “scene” and people can do all this. I think very few people like Ashish in India had started it. Adding to this, Barkha gives us details about her inspiration to start her YouTube channel, “Because my followers started growing, the people managing me at that time, they made me realise like that since I travel so much and anyways shooting travel content, I can just upload it in one place on the YouTube channel and I was very much against starting a YouTube channel thinking I won’t be able do all of it (auditions, shooting, Instagram and YouTube and they were like, shut up and do it. As I started uploading more and more content, many tourists and boards of different countries started reaching out to me to create content on my YouTube channel. After that, I got great views you know so that’s when I decided this was the best way to make my love for travel sustainable.” When asked what she looks for in a new project before signing yes to it, Barkha reveals that other than the standard considerations regarding production and platform, the storyline and character offered to her plays an extremely important role. Barkha has had the opportunity to work alongside Sushmita Sen and claims and claims she had a wonderful experience. While contributing to wildlife and nature are some of her alternate interests, Barkha digs deeper by expressing the challenges one faces in the show industry. “I think, at least for me the most challenging part is showing restraint. A lot of people say it’s very important to select the right project. So, that is most challenging because as an actor you’re tempted to do every project that comes your way . Having the ability to pick and choose your projects is something that I feel is very challenging because every character requires a different dialect and a whole lot of work. I never bring up long hours, travel, staying away or not having weekends as challenges because all of that comes as part and parcel of being an actor. However, I think having to choose between projects and having gauze which one is good for you is most challenging thing according to me.” An eye catcher in this interview is the revelation of some of Barkha’s cherished and note-worthy accomplishments such as being a 12th board exam merit list holder and topping Maharashtra, raising awareness, and educating people for animal welfare, having the courage to make a shift into the web space and maintaining a healthy body lifestyle in terms of meditation, yoga and a fitness regime. Concluding the interview, Barkha also told us about some of her future goals and projects “One project that has already been announced by Jio Studios is The Great Wedding of Munnes which will release later this year. I am very excited about it. The entire look of the character I am playing is very interesting. It is like nothing anyone has ever seen me before in.” Booming with positive energy and quirkiness, Barkha Singh ends the interview with a heart-warming message for her fans- “YOLO. Everyone should really believe in living in the present moment. There is no point in spending time over-thinking. If you want to do something, do it now, don’t waste time procrastinating. If you feel like doing something, trust your gut and go for it!” SEARCH Karishma Kotak Playing Her Innings In Fashion, Sports And Fitness COVER STORIES Musings With Maryam Zolghadr COVER STORIES Madhura Naik talks about the Life of an Actress COVER STORIES Kavya Thapar And Her Versatile Acting Career That Cuts Across Regional Lines COVER STORIES Ahsaas Channa Talks About Her Mother Being The Inspiration Behind Her Career COVER STORIES POPULAR POSTS Advertisement By Anushka Sharma Dialogues That Never Disappoint With Actor Saqib Ayub 4 April 2024 COVER STORIES by Anjali Educate, Empower, Excel: Priyanka Chahar Choudhary's Inspirational Overture 15 November 2023 COVER STORIES by Akshra Khandelwal Purab Kohli’s Cinematic Expedition Through Films, Travel And Self-Expression 22 September 2023 COVER STORIES by Aparajita Jaiswal Exploring The Path Of Aspiring Actors And Producers: Insights From Anil Singh Chandel 6 September 2023 COVER STORIES RELATED POSTS Advertisement

  • 5 by 5 Rule

by Akash Khatri 5 by 5 Rule 1 November 2020 LIFESTYLE Advertisement A very close friend introduced me to this coincidentally 5 years back after I had been ranting about my messy day. Since then life has been a bit simpler, it goes like, “If it’s not going to matter in 5 years, don’t spend more than 5 minutes upset by it.” It didn’t make sense to me the first time too. Sounds pretty simple on paper I know, it’s difficult in reality. You won’t get used to it overnight, it will surely take a while but I promise once you do, things just seem to sort themselves. Things fall apart, they always do. I think it’s the basic law of human living. You will have challenges, changes and trials. It’s a part and parcel of a game called life. You need to accept the ugly bitter pills just like the sweet candies. It’s just the way it is supposed to be maybe. It can’t be flowers and rainbows all the way. There might be days with a little blood, tears and sweat too but it will all be worth it in the end. Sometimes decision fatigue gets overwhelming. When you can’t really think what to do, whether to keep thinking about something or not. At such times the 5 by 5 rule comes to the rescue. You can’t care about everything and anything; you have to choose what to care about. The only way to filter is this. It is highly effective in the long run and this is me talking from personal experience, tried and tested. It can be applied from the tiniest snarky comment someone passed on your dress to your workplace issues. Whenever in doubt, just ask yourself once “will it matter in the next five years?” if yes, work on it, find a solution, leave no stone unturned for it but if you get an answer in the negative, drop it right there. You will soon realize that what anyone else thinks about the colour of your dress or your new hairstyle or your handwriting won’t ever matter, they won’t even remember it after a week or so but you somewhere it might leave a mark on your heart and you would continue pondering over their nasty remarks. My heart always got the better of my brain while making decisions, it’s not bad but equilibrium is necessary. This rule helped me get a perspective around issues. Those gigantic dilemmas weren’t that bad. I realized a lot of issues had very simple solutions. You just had to know the trick to handle. Neil Armstrong once said, “I believe that every human has a finite number of heartbeats. I don’t intend to waste any of mine.” We all have limited time. We have to make our choices, they might not always be wise but mistakes are the greatest teachers. This has become my life’s litmus test. It saved me from a lot of futile thinking; I hope it helps you declutter too. #wise #test #accept #limited #dilemma #rule #Reality #decision #issue #finite #litmus #help #Life #sense #time #sort #fivebyfive #thinking #save #overwhelming #simpler #equilibrium SEARCH Countdown To History: Omega Unveils Paris 2024 Olympics Countdown Clock And Special Edition Timepiece LIFESTYLE Juggling Law And Fashion: The Inspirational Journey Of Riddhi Nahata, A Multifaceted Influencer LIFESTYLE Join Shruti Yogi On Her Enchanting Journey From Kumkum Bhagya To Wanderlust Saga LIFESTYLE Personal Growth And Relatability: Ishita Khanna's Key To Influencer Success LIFESTYLE 6 Disadvantages Of Being Pretty LIFESTYLE POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement By Anushka Sharma Unveiling the Myth: Does Pretty Privilege Truly Exist 17 April 2024 LIFESTYLE By Anushka Sharma How Do Some People Not Get Acne No Matter What 15 April 2024 LIFESTYLE By Anushka Sharma Kate Middleton’s Story Has Only Gotten Worse With Time 18 March 2024 LIFESTYLE By Rini Pathak The Skill Of Ageing Gracefully: Secrets From The Land Of Longevity 17 March 2024 LIFESTYLE RELATED POSTS Advertisement

  • Why the Gender Pay Gap is Wide and Disturbing

by Rupashree Ravi Why the Gender Pay Gap is Wide and Disturbing 4 August 2022 SOCIETY Advertisement Advertisement Gender equality in the workplace is still a pipe dream for many. Education, discrimination, societal norms, and other factors affect women’s occupational choices and their pay. It is known that women are paid significantly lesser than men for the same work they do, whether it is paid domestic labour or a desk job. This is despite the fact that over the last several decades, millions of women have joined the workforce and have also made huge gains in their educational attainment. All this means that the gender pay gap is real. It also hurts women by suppressing their earnings and making it harder for them to keep a balance between work and family. The gender pay gap is essentially the average difference between the remuneration received by working men and women. But it is more nuanced as the pay gaps can be unadjusted or adjusted. The former is much starker as it simply differentiates between the mean and median wages of the two genders, while the latter takes into account differences in factors such as occupation, education, and job experience. Women are often blamed for not earning more “Worldwide, women only make 77 cents for every dollar earned by men. This results in a lifetime of income inequality between men and women and more women retiring into poverty.” This kind of inequality can be seen in all countries and across all sectors because women’s work is undervalued and they also tend to be concentrated in different jobs than men. Even though the nature of the work may require equal or more effort and skills, it is still valued and remunerated less. The gap widens for women of colour, immigrant women, and mothers, which pushes them into casual and part-time work in the informal economy. This kind of phenomenon is common and much larger in developing countries than in developed countries. It is alarming to know that in a country like India, the reasons for the pay gap are much more complicated. Girl students are forced to drop out of school and are married off, and even if they are educated, many women are not allowed to work by their families. Women who join the workforce often need to take extended leaves for maternity and child care, and even the healthcare of other family members. To top it all, they also take care of household duties like cooking and cleaning. All these factors lead to women’s earnings falling behind men’s over time. Women are forced to micro-manage at their workplace and home We have to understand why the gender wage gap exists and how we can tackle it, without shifting the blame to women for not earning more. Our economy itself provides unequal opportunities for women at every point of their education, training, and career choices. As a result, women tend to choose jobs that pay less, according to a study. They disproportionately enter lower-paid, and female-dominated occupations. However, this decision is shaped by discrimination, societal norms, and other forces beyond their control. Employers also choose to prefer men over women for the same positions and roles due to factors such as motherhood penalties. “Equal pay for work of equal value” The bottom line, however, is that socio-economic disparity and patriarchal power structures expose women to more unpaid care work and land the weight of multi-dimensional work, including primary caretaking on them. Factors like non-inclusivity and sexual harassment in the workplace further pressurise them to opt out of their career prospects. Studies reveal that it will 195 years to overcome the gender pay gap in India This is why we need to expand paid family and medical leave and improve the overall work-life balance. Paid paternity leaves for men are also a great start so that they can help at home as well and lift the burden from women. Implementation of stricter laws like the Equal Pay Act at the state and national levels will help to reduce the widening pay gap. Lastly, gender-sensitive employment practices and measures to reduce sexual harassment in the workplace are the need of the hour all across the world. #Feminism #GenderPayGap #Representation #Patriarchy #WorkplaceInclusivity #GenderSensitisation SEARCH Women Empowerment A mere concept or a real Concern SOCIETY Looking Through The Excellence Of ‘Jaali’ Architecture SOCIETY Why the Gender Pay Gap is Wide and Disturbing SOCIETY Festival of Stones SOCIETY The Pygmalion Effect SOCIETY POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement By Rini Pathak A Glance In The Kshitij’23: A Euphoric Escapade 26 January 2024 SOCIETY By Rini Pathak Mithibai Kshitij: Epitome Of Diverse Social Cause Empowerment 24 January 2024 SOCIETY By Rini Pathak Breaking Barrier And Redefining Inclusivity Conduct Of Para Events: Shaping Of A Better Future By Mithibai Kshitij 19 January 2024 SOCIETY by Mudita Bagla Divorce - Not A Big Deal 24 January 2023 SOCIETY RELATED POSTS

  • The Lockdown Masks

by Aiyra Baig The Lockdown Masks 1 November 2020 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement During these trying times, skincare seems like a great idea. All these days at home are actually a blessing for our skin; no dust, dirt, travelling, pollution, junk food or the harsh sun. Therefore, no damage and happy skin. With all the extra time at hand, go an extra mile and pamper your face with some homemade face masks made from ingredients you can find in your kitchen cabinet. Grandma’s secret – Besan Face mask Mix besan (split chickpea flour) with a pinch of turmeric, milk and rose water. Scrub it on your face in a circular motion and wait for it to dry. Rinse with close water in 5-10 minutes. Besan helps to absorb excess oil from the skin including impurities while also retaining moisture. Caffeine Hydration Mix one tablespoon each of coffee powder and honey well together. Apply and wash it off after 10 minutes. Coffee is rich in antioxidants, kills cells and removes impurities, making the skin smoother and brighter. It is also an excellent exfoliator and helps in stimulating blood flow, which reduces acne and even cellulite and stretch marks. Honey acts as a moisturizer and diminishes signs of ageing. Bright Banana (*not for oily skin) Mash a ripe banana and mix it with a little bit of honey. Apply it on your face and wash off after 15 minutes. Banana is rich in potassium and helps to moisture and hydrate dry skin, making it soft and supple. It also lightens dark spots. The 101 cure mask Mix freshly prepared aloe vera gel with fresh cucumber paste/juice, yoghurt and honey. Cleanse your face and leave this face mask for 20-30 minutes. Using this twice a week helps to detan your skin. Aloe vera also has antibacterial properties which helps to treat pimples and acne, giving a smooth skin texture. it also lightens your skin and removes blemishes and dark spots, effectively de-pigmenting your skin. Egg peel off Add a few drops of lemon juice to an egg-white mix well. Apply it well over your face and neck, wait for it to dry and peel it off with water. Egg whites shrinks your pores, firms your skin by removing excess dirt, oil and dead cells on your face while also removing blackheads. Lemon juice naturally contains vitamin C, an antioxidant that may help reduce skin damage and premature ageing. Due to its high pH levels, it has astringent qualities; lemon can decrease oil on the skin and reduce inflammation. Oat scrub Make a smooth paste by mixing oatmeal, honey and rosewater. Scrub it well and leave it on for ten minutes before rinsing with water. Oatmeal contains antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds that soothe itchy, dry and irritated skin. This face mask gives you instant radiant-looking skin. #impurities #cells #supple #eggwhite #rosewater #blemishes #honey #moisture #irritated #banana #tumeric #brighter #stimulating #milk #dryskin #clean #lighten #exfoliator #pamper #blackheads #acne #itchy #damage #pores #yoghurt #smoother #skincare #shrink #dark #soft #oatmeal #pimples #oil #kitchen #flow #coffee #ingredients #besan #detan #radiant #antibacterial #lemon #hydrate #spots #skin #cucumber #ageing #inflammation #facemask #blood SEARCH The Rich Heritage of Indian Handloom FASHION Fashion In The 19th Century FASHION Colour Psychology in Fashion: Explained FASHION The Influence Of Kanye West On Fashion FASHION K-Pop Fashion And Its Impact On Global Wardrobe FASHION POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement By Anushka Sharma These Fashion Trends Are Literally Scary For Your Health 1 April 2024 FASHION By Anushka Sharma India Is Finally Having A Major Fashion Moment 23 March 2024 FASHION By Anushka Sharma Fashion Trends: What's Hot In 2024 22 March 2024 FASHION By Anushka Sharma Is Africa The Next World Leader In Fashion 20 March 2024 FASHION RELATED POSTS
