  • Sunspel & Its Legacy: The Fashion Code For Today

Sunspel & Its Legacy: The Fashion Code For Today By Anushka Uniyal Sunspel & Its Legacy: The Fashion Code For Today 17 February 2025 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement Can A Polo Shirt Be Iconic? Sunspel certainly thinks so. In a world where fast fashion is all about loud logos, neon colours and viral micro-trends, there’s something absolutely refreshing about a brand that keeps it simple and effortlessly cool. That’s where Sunspel comes in! No gimmicks and no over-the-top branding. Just timeless pieces that make you look and feel your best! From timeless T-shirts to classic polos and luxurious knitwear, whatever your style, Sunspel has it all! If you’re on a mission to find the perfect white tee or a polo that oozes charm, you’re at the right place. Because this summer is all about embracing the nostalgia of a classic polo that never runs out of style, and nobody does it better than Sunspel! A Brand With A Story You’d be surprised to know that Sunspel’s story goes all the way back to 1860 in Nottingham, England, way before luxury essentials were a market concept! It all began when company founder Thomas Hill opened his hosiery and underwear factory in Newdigate. With a vision to create quality products, the textile expert went on to develop garments that sat on skin like silk. His son, Thomas A. Hill, took things up a notch by introducing Caribbean Sea Island cotton, one of the world’s rarest and finest cotton you could lay your eyes on! This fabric of gold soon became the brand’s hallmark. Fast forward to 160 years of earned reputation, the brand has expanded far beyond intimates but the commitment to quality hasn’t budged. The result? Basics that feel like anything “but” basic. The fit? Sharp, polished, but never overdone. All About That James Bond Swagger Sunspel finally got its big screen moment in 2006, when Daniel Craig slipped into its iconic Riviera Polo in Casino Royale and just like that, the sleek, slim-cut polo became a holy grail for Bond fans, fashion minimalists or basically anyone who wanted to look mysteriously cool without trying too hard. Raul Verdicchi, CEO at Sunspel, stated: “We've seen a significant increase in polo shirt sales in general, with the style growing over 30 per cent overall year-on-year and sales of the ‘Riviera’ growing by over 50 per cent." Want to look like James Bond? You know where to go. Sunspel’s connection to Bond goes beyond just one film, it ties back to Ian Fleming himself. With his sharp eye for quality and love for fine craftsmanship, Fleming made sure Bond’s style was always effortlessly refined, just like Sunspel. For them, clothing isn’t just about fashion; it’s about embracing a lifestyle. More Than Style: An Ode To Sustainability Here's the thing—Sunspel isn’t just about looking good. It’s about doing good, too. Having survived two world wars, the brand takes sustainability very seriously. From sourcing 100% organic cotton and RWS-certified wool and adopting eco-friendly dying processes, Sunspel is all about ethical manufacturing without compromising on top-tier quality. Their motto? Work with nature, not against it. In 2023, Sunspel released a sustainability report emphasizing two core principles: High-quality products aren’t just about materials—they’re about impact. Sunspel ensures that everything they make has a positive footprint on both the planet and the people involved in its creation. Transparency is key. Sunspel has maintained strict control over its supply chain since 1860, ensuring that every step, from fibre to final stitch, aligns with its values of ethical craftsmanship. At Sunspel, sustainability isn’t a trend, it’s a tradition. Why Sunspel Is Built To Last Fashion is moving fast, but Sunspel proves that slow and steady wins the race! If you are looking to invest in statement value pieces, you know your stop. So, whether you’re channelling your inner James Bond or just tired of trend-chasing, Sunspel might just be your new fashion code. And trust us, once you slip into one of their pieces, there’s no going back! • Rediscovering The Preciousness Of Couture With Rizman Ruzaini's "Mustika" Collection

Rediscovering The Preciousness Of Couture With Rizman Ruzaini's "Mustika" Collection By Anushka Sharma Rediscovering The Preciousness Of Couture With Rizman Ruzaini's "Mustika" Collection 5 September 2024 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement In the ever-changing, evolving and dynamic world of fashion, where trends change as swiftly as the seasons, some collections transcend the ephemeral, grounding us in a sense of history and identity. Rizman Ruzaini 's Spring/Summer 2025 collection in Dubai Fashion Week , aptly named "Mustika," is one such offering—a rich narrative of nostalgia, cultural homage, and meticulous craftsmanship that takes us on a journey through time. Treading A Journey into "Mustika” The name "Mustika" is inspired by the character in the 1999 Malaysian film “Perempuan Melayu Terakhir” (“The Last Malay Woman”), directed by Erma Fatima. This cinematic gem explores the tension between preserving cultural heritage and embracing modernity, a theme that resonates deeply with the collection. In Malay, "mestika" refers to a precious stone or something deeply cherished—a fitting metaphor for the exquisite pieces that Rizman Ruzaini has crafted. Brimming Of Nostalgia in Every Stitch The creative spark for this collection was ignited by a serendipitous moment: Ruzaini Jamil, Creative Director of Rizman Ruzaini, rediscovered an old photograph of his late grandmother, Tok Puteh Surin. The image, which captured Tok Puteh and her friends in the 1950s, dressed in elegant kebaya and batik sarongs, evoked a sense of timeless grace. This photograph not only transported Ruzaini back to a pre-independence era but also inspired him to bring that era's style to life in the SS25 collection. The kebaya, a traditional blouse-dress combination worn by women in the Nusantara region, takes center stage in this collection. It’s a garment steeped in history, with roots that date back centuries. Rizman Ruzaini has reimagined the kebaya with a modern twist, yet each piece retains the essence of its rich heritage. A Cinematic Tribute to Some of the Iconic Films: Ruzaini’s inspiration didn’t stop at family memories; it extended to the silver screen. Iconic films like “Penarek Becha” (1955) and “Rachun Dunia” (1950) showcase the kebaya in all its cinematic glory, immortalized by beloved Malay actors such as P. Ramlee, Saadiah, and Kasma Booty. These classic films, which hold a special place in the hearts of many Malaysians, served as a muse for the collection. The result is a line of garments that echo the elegance of these filmic masterpieces while offering a fresh perspective on a traditional staple. The Art of Embroidery In a nod to the evolution of the kebaya, the collection highlights the intricate embroidery that became a hallmark of the garment in the 1940s. Malay and Jawi Peranakan communities favored plant motifs, while Chinese Peranakan kebayas often featured animal designs—a reflection of their cultural symbolism. Rizman Ruzaini’s SS25 collection honors these traditions while introducing contemporary touches, including tambour beading and machine embroidery, which elevate the batik sarongs and kebayas to new heights of sophistication. A Wondrous Celebration of Batik No exploration of Southeast Asian fashion would be complete without batik, and Rizman Ruzaini’s collection gives it the spotlight it deserves. Batik, a time-honored textile art form, is celebrated throughout the Nusantara region and has been embraced by generations of artisans and fashion lovers alike. The SS25 collection integrates batik sarong motifs into its designs, seamlessly blending tradition with innovation. The brand’s use of batik in tandem with contemporary embroidery techniques underscores its commitment to honoring heritage while pushing the boundaries of modern fashion. Who’s the brains behind the business? It’s Rizman Ruzaini! Since its founding in 2005, Rizman Ruzaini has grown from a small startup into a major player in Malaysia's fashion industry. Led by designers Rizman Nordin and Ruzaini Jamil, the brand has built a reputation for its signature silhouettes, attention to detail, and commitment to quality. Today, Rizman Ruzaini is poised to take its place on the global stage, with plans to expand into the Middle East and Europe. At the same time, the brand is embracing sustainability, ensuring that its future growth is as responsible as it is stylish. With the "Mustika" collection, Rizman Ruzaini invites us to reflect on the beauty of our shared cultural heritage. Through each piece, we are reminded that fashion is not just about the present moment; it’s a conversation between the past and the future, a celebration of where we come from and where we are going. The collection is a timeless tribute to the elegance of the kebaya and the enduring allure of batik—a sartorial masterpiece that bridges generations and unites us in our shared love for the beauty of tradition. • Vashon Shaneé: Where Elegance Becomes Intent

Vashon Shaneé: Where Elegance Becomes Intent By Shriniwas Kodape Vashon Shaneé: Where Elegance Becomes Intent 13 July 2025 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement In the world Vashon Shaneé creates, time slows down. There’s a deliberate calm in her aesthetic—a kind of pause, like the quiet breath before a symphony begins. Her garments don’t shout. They don’t compete for attention. They carry a quiet power, drawing the eye not with spectacle, but with certainty. Every silhouette she sends into the world feels like a gesture made with care. Her designs don’t chase seasons or react to trends—they originate from a place deeper than fashion. Each piece is measured, not just in fabric but in feeling. She doesn’t dress women to transform them. She dresses women to reveal them. Vashon’s work begins not with color palettes or sketches, but with questions. Who is this woman? What world does she walk in? What does she want to carry into a room, silently and confidently? Her approach to design feels less like drafting patterns and more like building a dialogue—each piece born out of exchange rather than execution. The resulting pieces speak volumes. Tailored suits that stand like architecture. Satin gowns that seem to glide rather than hang. Shoulders that are sculpted, not exaggerated. Hems that trail like memories. Every element is deliberate—crafted to affirm, not to mask. These are garments that don’t just fit the body. They echo it. Her Instagram portfolio reflects this philosophy—a visual archive of elegance and depth. No frantic filters. No gimmicks. Just light, presence, and clarity. Whether it’s a backless evening gown in deep emerald or a sharply tailored jumpsuit echoing 1960s formality, the focus is always the same: grace over glamour, emotion over excess. And yet, Vashon Shaneé’s work never feels minimal for minimalism’s sake. It’s romantic, but never saccharine. Structured, yet soft in spirit. You’ll often find a daring neckline subtly anchored by a skirt that moves with softness and restraint. Her designs sit in the tension between past and present—where regency silhouettes meet contemporary poise, and vintage silhouettes are reinterpreted through a modern, assertive lens. Yet, interpreting her craft as purely visual underestimates its deeper resonance. What makes her practice extraordinary is the ritual of creation. Each client enters into a shared process with her—one that values conversation, collaboration, and fit that’s more than physical. Custom sizing is not a premium option; it’s the beginning of the journey. Every sketch emerges not only from creative instinct but from a deep attunement to the person it’s meant for. The fittings are intimate. The finish is personal. That level of attention feels revolutionary in a fashion world driven by immediacy. But Vashon doesn’t move for the market. She moves for meaning. Even her approach to sustainability feels less about slogans and more about soul. Her garments aren’t simply built to endure in thread and stitching—they’re meant to live on in memory. These are clothes one keeps, passes down, returns to. They don’t belong to a moment—they belong to a story. And at the heart of it all is a designer who leads not with spectacle, but with stillness. Vashon doesn’t clamor for the spotlight. She doesn’t need to. Her work speaks because it listens first. It is precise, poetic, and deeply personal. She doesn’t dress women to be seen. She dresses them to feel fully themselves. Perhaps the best word for her process is devotional. Devoted to her clients. To form. To integrity. In each piece, there’s a kind of reverence—for craft, for individuality, for the quiet strength of women who know exactly who they are. Because when Vashon Shaneé creates a garment, she isn’t just shaping a silhouette. She’s shaping the space a woman steps into—gently, boldly, entirely. Vashon Shaneé’s signature aesthetic was most recently showcased at Thailand Fashion Week , a celebrated platform for emerging designers who lead with depth over display. Her presence at Thailand Fashion Week further cements her place among voices redefining fashion with clarity, elegance, and intention. • Dibba Studio: Weaving The Future Of Fashion At Thailand Fashion Week AW25-26

Dibba Studio: Weaving The Future Of Fashion At Thailand Fashion Week AW25-26 By Shriniwas Kodape Dibba Studio: Weaving The Future Of Fashion At Thailand Fashion Week AW25-26 2 September 2025 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement The night was heavy with anticipation, the kind that hums beneath the skin before a story begins. The chandeliers above glowed like constellations suspended in velvet darkness, and the murmurs of the audience rose and fell like a tide against the shore. Then the music swelled, low at first, almost imperceptible, and the runway came alive. A figure emerged from the shadows, draped in fabric that caught the light like a secret being revealed. In that moment, silence fell, and DIBBA Studio began to write its chapter at Thailand Fashion Week AW25/26 . What unfolded was not a mere display of garments but the telling of a story. DIBBA Studio has always carried the reputation of a brand unafraid of innovation, but this collection transformed that ethos into something much deeper. Each look became a sentence, each fabric a metaphor, each silhouette a carefully chosen word. The runway was their page, the models their narrators, and the tale was one of identity, transformation, and artistry at its most distilled. The collection leaned into contrasts, weaving the past into the present, precision into fluidity, stillness into movement. Jackets cut with sharp edges softened into cascading hems. Drapes suggested tradition yet refused to remain confined within it, dissolving instead into gestures of contemporary rebellion. The designs seemed to speak to heritage without echoing it too literally, translating memory into a language meant for now. Textures played the role of punctuation. Heavy wool stood solid, cotton carried the warmth of familiarity, while gauzy layers slipped through the air like whispers. One could almost imagine the sensation of fabric against skin, the steady weight of a structured shoulder, the fleeting coolness of silk as it brushed against light. The tactile story was as vivid as the visual one, reminding everyone that clothing is an experience, not just an image. Movement deepened the narrative. With each step, garments shifted their meanings. An oversized coat that at first appeared austere softened into unexpected gentleness, angular lines collapsed into liquid ease, rigid outlines dissolved into forms that seemed to breathe. Fashion here was not frozen in presentation; it lived, altered, adapted, like a character revealing new facets as the plot unfolded. The palette carried the emotional arc of the tale. Earth tones such as ochres, greens, and browns offered grounding, as though rooting the collection in the soil of memory. Then came flashes of surprise: a lining of crimson like a pulse of hidden passion, silver threads that glimmered like moonlight, indigo breaking through the muted tones with quiet brilliance. These choices were not decorative but revelatory, moments of sudden clarity embedded within the flow of the story. What struck most was the restraint. DIBBA Studio did not need extravagance to command attention. Every detail seemed deliberate, each garment confident in its simplicity. There was no reaching for spectacle, no unnecessary flourish, only the assurance of a voice that knew its strength. Even the styling of the models reflected this clarity. Sleek hair, understated makeup, and an aura of authenticity emphasized the garments rather than overshadowed them. They moved not as mannequins but as people, carrying the designs into the realm of lived reality. Beneath the spectacle, the collection posed deeper reflections. Fashion is always about more than fabric; it is about identity, about the tension between what we inherit and what we become. DIBBA Studio seemed to ask: how do we honor the past while stepping into the future? How do we carry roots without being bound by them? In a time when the industry wrestles with sustainability, cultural representation, and the place of technology, this collection offered a quiet answer. Progress does not demand erasure, and innovation shines brightest when grown from tradition. As the final model disappeared into the darkness and the applause broke free, the audience was left not with fleeting admiration but with a lingering sensation. This was fashion that lived beyond the runway. It was art, philosophy, narrative, woven into fabric and carried forward in memory. DIBBA Studio’s AW25/26 showcase was not content with being seen; it demanded to be felt. In the end, what unfolded was more than a fashion show. It was an experience, a reminder that clothing is never just about what we wear but about the stories we choose to tell through it. And in that story, DIBBA Studio has carved a chapter that will not fade easily, a chapter that threads itself into the future with poise, confidence, and quiet brilliance. • Pad vs Banana

SOCIETY by Aparajita Jaiswal Pad vs Banana 19 April 2022 SOCIETY Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement What is Sex-education? I grew-up in a small town, where the people would receive a thrashing for uttering the word SEX. Writing the word SEX on any piece of paper, was no less than penning our own death warrant. Therefore, learning about it from our schoolbooks became impossible, and talking about it in the public was considered offensive. Along with my puberty came the age of 2G internet, and along with downloading video games setup on proxy servers, porn movies became the hot talk. These enabled the boys of my age to watch videos of penetrative sex. Yes, it was porn movies that gave us them first sex lessons. The debate of ban over pornography has always received mixed opinions, and even mine has fluctuated with time. Sex-education is certainly a must for every person in their late teenage and early adulthood. Particularly, for people like me who grow up in small towns with not much provided guidance. Having been a porn addict, I find myself qualified (read and learned) enough to write against pornography. Pornography lacks consent: I have watched many porn movies in which the female actors are seen undressing their male partners without their consent. The male actors are seen groping their female partners without their consent. Basically, pornography, in general promotes (at least supports) molestation in the name of sex. People may have different political, religious, and regional identities, but no one should consider molestation normal. Anyone defending pornography, for any intention, should at least not let this very thought slip away from their mind. Pornography encourages incest: A significant number of porn movies show the male actor having sex with a girl playing the role of his mother, sister, sister-in-law and even daughter. While the religions and cultures have different opinions on incest, research shows that incest is harmful to possible off springs. Majority of sex educators (gynaecologists) strongly oppose incest, and hence incest shouldn’t be encouraged in the name of sex through pornography. Sanitary napkins vs Bananas: A good porn movie (according to my younger version) is incomplete without a girl inserting unconventional items (like a banana) inside her private parts. The availability of such videos on the internet is a matter of disgrace. Sex education should be about spreading knowledge on the healthy menstrual cycle, sanitation of genitals, valuing consent, and so on. It should certainly not be about the ill-treatment of genitals but rather about EXPLORATION of sexuality. P.S.I do not intend to offend anyone. • Palm Islands

by Akash Khatri by Akash Khatri Palm Islands 1 October 2020 TRAVEL Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement One of the country’s most prominent project ever, Dubai’s palm Islands, developed by Nakheel, are the eighth wonder of the world! These man made islands are designed in a palm tree shape and thus got their name from it. The distinctiveness and interesting history behind it grabs the tourist attraction here. One of the most visited destination in Dubai has been admired since long. There are three islands that altogether makes Palm Island, including Palm Jumeirah, Palm Jebel Ali, Palm Deira. Deira is the largest one. Palm Jumeirah It is the only one open to visitors and is also famous for the grand looking hotel, Burj Al Arab. There are residential properties inside Jumeirah too where celebrities or richer people reside in. It was built in the early 21st century and first residents in the buildings arrived in 2007. In the second decade 10,000 people were residing in Jumeirah. It was financed from Dubai’s substantial income from petroleum. Palm Jebel Ali It was the most significant among the three islands when built. It was so large that more than 250,000 people were expected to live there. But it’s an abandoned island as of now because of the deficit economic situation in Dubai. Nakheel has confirmed that it won’t be put to a stop. It’ll continue at some point of time for sure. Palm Deira Deira is the largest of all the islands with an area greater than Paris! It’s been under construction due to the same reason mentioned. When it’ll be completed, The island will consist of residential property, marinas, shopping malls, sports facilities, clubs, and hospitality offerings. It’s a spectacular with all the luxury and unrealistic units. The idea of building these islands was to fascinate more tourists. That’s why it has everything that a visitor looks for. World-class hotels, entertainment centres, spas and health centres, marinas, water parks, residential villas, shopping malls, cinema multiplexes, diving sites and what not. Beach lovers can’t resist visiting here. People can see the palm shape up close and it looks surreal. One look at it’s structure, which is covered with beachfront hotels from major brands like Atlantis, St. Regis, Sofitel, Langham, W, and Waldorf-Astoria makes it understandable why Dubai is the fourth-most visited place in the world. This engineering project is just as imaginable as it sounds. The project of Palm Jumeirah cost $12 billion which today is the native to 1,500 beachfront mansions with a 6,000 apartments on its trunk. Also 12,000 palm trees were planted in there. These amazing facts about the place makes it more appealing, enchanting and worthwhile. #holidaydestination #Dubai #trip #wanderlust #beaches #travelling #beautifulplaces #islands SEARCH The Fashion Capitals Of Asia: Exploring Style Beyond Borders TRAVEL Unveiling Delights Of Hotel Palazzo Versace Gem Of Dubai TRAVEL 7 Abandoned Cities In India And Abroad That Are Too Beautiful To Be Forgotten TRAVEL airBaltic Makes Global Debut On World’s Safest Airlines List TRAVEL Revolutionizing Air Travel: Qatar Airways Introduces AI-Powered Booking With Sama TRAVEL POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement By Shriniwas Kodape The Peninsula Bangkok: Grace Beside The Chao Phraya 4 October 2025 TRAVEL By Shriniwas Kodape 64 Floors Up: Lebua At State Tower Perspective 4 October 2025 TRAVEL By Shriniwas Kodape Four Seasons Bangkok: Where The River Holds Its Breath 17 September 2025 TRAVEL By Shriniwas Kodape Neon, Smoke, And Chili Fire: A Night In Bangkok’s Chinatown 2 September 2025 TRAVEL RELATED POSTS Advertisement

  • The Peninsula Bangkok: Grace Beside The Chao Phraya

By Shriniwas Kodape By Shriniwas Kodape The Peninsula Bangkok: Grace Beside The Chao Phraya 4 October 2025 TRAVEL Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement The river was moving slow that evening, heavy with the weight of the day’s heat. Lantern light caught the ripples in soft gold, as if the water itself was telling you to pause. The boat from The Peninsula came gliding sleek, quiet, and precise. No rush. No spectacle. Just an unshakable sense of arrival. The moment you step aboard, Bangkok’s chaos loosens its grip. By the time the teak deck meets the private pier, you’ve already shifted into another rhythm. The Peninsula Bangkok doesn’t need to prove anything. Its presence is felt before you’ve even crossed the threshold, a low, steady hum of refinement that lingers in the air. The lobby greets you with polished marble, towering ceilings, and the kind of service choreography that’s seamless yet invisible. Every movement here feels deliberate, designed to let the city stay outside while you find your footing in its quieter counterpoint. The rooms are a masterclass in understatement. Wood-paneled walls, soft cream upholstery, and floor-to-ceiling windows that make the Chao Phraya your personal backdrop. By day, the light pours in with a painter’s precision. By night, the city’s lights scatter across the river like a constellation you can almost reach. It’s the kind of view you don’t just look at, you live with it. The heart of The Peninsula is not just in its architecture but in how it frames the river. From the infinity pool, the water seems to merge with the horizon, boats slipping past as you drift between laps. The spa carries this same calm forward soft light, muted tones, and treatments that feel both grounded and transportive. It’s Bangkok, distilled into stillness. Dining here is a journey of its own. Mei Jiang is the crown jewel, where Cantonese cuisine arrives as an art form precise, delicate, but never overworked. Each course feels like an act in a well-paced performance, and the service moves with the rhythm of conversation, never intruding, always anticipating. Thiptara, tucked beside the river under a canopy of trees, leans into Thai tradition without staging it as theatre. Here, the spices bloom naturally, the flavours speak for themselves, and the Chao Phraya becomes part of the soundtrack. The River Café & Terrace , with its open-air setting, offers mornings where the coffee is strong, the breeze steady, and the city feels comfortably distant. Every experience at The Peninsula Bangkok feels connected by an invisible thread, a consistency in tempo and tone. Whether you’re taking afternoon tea in The Lobby, boarding the hotel’s boat to cross into the city’s pulse, or simply sitting by the water at dusk, there’s a sense that time is being measured differently here. This is a property built for people who understand that luxury is not about excess it’s about precision. About the way a welcome drink arrives at the exact moment you begin to think of one, or how the staff remember the name you only mentioned once. It’s in the silence between exchanges, the balance between attentiveness and discretion. Evenings at The Peninsula have their own gravity. As the light softens, the river takes on a mirror-like stillness. The city’s skyline, just across the water, becomes a shimmering silhouette, reminding you that you’re still in Bangkok, even if it feels like you’ve stepped slightly outside of it. There’s an intimacy to this separation, as though you’ve been given a private lens through which to watch the city breathe. The Peninsula Bangkok is not a place you simply stay, it's a place that redefines your relationship with the city. It invites you to see Bangkok not as a constant surge of energy, but as a series of moments worth lingering in. And when you finally leave, boarding that quiet boat once more, you realize the river has held your time here like a secret. • From Alexandria To Dubai: The Inspiring Journey Of Mennatallah Ali

By Anushka Sharma By Anushka Sharma From Alexandria To Dubai: The Inspiring Journey Of Mennatallah Ali 14 August 2024 BEAUTY Advertisement Advertisement Mennatallah Ali’s story is one of passion, perseverance, and a deep love for beauty and fashion. Originating from the bustling coastal city of Alexandria, Egypt, Mennatallah's journey into the world of beauty began at a young age. She was enamored with fashion, beauty, and skincare, which laid the foundation for her future endeavors. Her early foray into the beauty industry saw her working as a makeup model. However, she soon realized the inconsistency in professional makeup services and took it upon herself to master the craft. After completing a makeup course, she began doing her own professional makeup, showcasing her skills and personal style. The turning point in her journey came when she moved to the UAE. Initially, she took a break from her passion but soon recognized the plethora of opportunities in Dubai, a city known for its dynamic and diverse culture. Encouraged by the vibrant environment, she ventured into covering events, reviewing products, and collaborating with beauty shops. Although her initial efforts were intermittent, Mennatallah resolved to pursue her passion full-time, aiming to make a significant mark in the influencing and blogging world. Mennatallah speaks highly of the fashion and beauty culture in the Middle East, particularly in Alexandria, where trends ignite quickly and spread like wildfire. She credits the region’s rich tradition in fashion for her inspiration, mentioning renowned designers like Hani Al-Bahiri, who are well-known for their exquisite bridal gowns. Living in Dubai has most definitely offered Mennatallah a unique advantage. Unlike the conservative nature of Egypt, Dubai's openness and diversity provide her with the freedom to explore and express her creativity. This freedom, she believes, is a significant factor in her growth as an influencer . The influencer industry in Dubai, she notes, is vibrant yet seasonal, with different times of the year bringing varying levels of activity based on religious and cultural festivals. Mennatallah’s love for Indian cinema is another interesting facet of her personality. A devoted fan of Bollywood, she fondly recalls skipping school to watch movies and can name films just by their scripts. Her admiration for actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Hrithik Roshan adds a touch of global culture to her local Egyptian and Emirati experiences. • Love child of Punk and Scene: Grunge

Love child of Punk and Scene: Grunge by Neha Pande Love child of Punk and Scene: Grunge 27 July 2020 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement If Punk fashion is an ‘anti fashion’ stance or movement then Grunge can be seen as a ‘non fashion’ statement or movement away from the typical sense of fashion set by fashion agencies or designers. Grunge is a love child of Punk and Scene which was also inspired by the comfortable fashion sense of the Hippie era. It was inspired by the dark theme of Punk with the nonchalant and loose fashion of the Hippie, i.e. a comfortable, uncoordinated look with the edgy style of Scene added to it which makes it look appealing. From vintage band tee shirts, flannels, oversized wool Pendletons to chunky Dr. Marten’s combat boots, high-waist jeans or comfortable cargo pants are some of the Grunge essentials. Grunge is an alternative rock music style featuring electric guitars and dragging lyrics. Grunge fashion is a part of grunge music genre and sub culture which started in mid 1980s Seattle and reached its popularity in early 2000s. This fashion is iconic with its durability and timeless thrifting with a vintage style. Celebrities like Kurt Cobain, the singer-guitarist of Nirvana used to wear an oversized striped sweater, ripped jeans, a pair of converse and unkempt hair which influenced grunge fashion. “Grunge has changed over time; flannels and Dr. Martens which were worn as “non fashion” statements have changed into a movement; a fashion statement in itself.” Designers like Marc Jacobs brought grunge to a luxury platform in 1993. He was inspired by his creative director of women’s design at Perry Ellis, debuting a whole spring collection inspired by grunge. A French brand which you all know as Louis Vuitton joined in the grunge fashion statement in 1997. Yet the fashion statement was called “ghastly” and only took off in the 2000s. It soon after became mainstream and made its way to the runways. Soon grunge trademarks like heavy layering, flannels, vintage band tees, Dr. Martens, oversized slouchy sweaters and many more were seen everywhere. Even today grunge fashion is alive but with some alterations and enhancements to aid the modern fashion. This has given birth to a whole new sub-genre of grunge aesthetic i.e. soft grunge, pastel grunge, cute grunge, Indie grunge and vintage grunge. The basic grunge of the 90s was dark and heavily inspired by scene and punk rock while these new genres were inspired by the various aesthetic needs of modern fashion. Grunge as a fashion statement has evolved and now it just doesn’t include dark but has some lighter shades added to its sub genres. It no longer contains just vintage band tees, ripped jeans, oversized sweaters or combat boots but has accommodated skirts, dresses, shorts, crop tops, cargo pants etc. with the basic grunge aesthetics. It’s a medley, mix and match, which is what fashion is. #GrungePunkFashionStatementFashionstatementStyleDesign SEARCH Why does Fashion Need Fashion Shows FASHION From Dreams To Crowns: Anuradha Garg’s Inspiring Mrs. India Story FASHION Colour Psychology in Fashion: Explained FASHION Legendary Female Icons Who Made Fashion Statements In The 20th Century FASHION The House of Chanel: History FASHION POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement By Shriniwas Kodape The Snake That Wore Red: Inside The Vision Cultured™ Revolution 19 October 2025 FASHION By Sakshi Shah Francesca Bellettini Ushers In Gucci’s New Dawn 19 September 2025 FASHION By Shriniwas Kodape Dibba Studio: Weaving The Future Of Fashion At Thailand Fashion Week AW25-26 2 September 2025 FASHION By Shriniwas Kodape Aksstagga: Threads That Whisper Love, Memory, And Eternity 21 August 2025 FASHION RELATED POSTS Advertisement
