- Nothing Fits Like A Memory: Ishmeet Kaur In Khan Market
Nothing Fits Like A Memory: Ishmeet Kaur In Khan Market By Ishmeet Kaur Nothing Fits Like A Memory: Ishmeet Kaur In Khan Market 30 May 2025 LIFESTYLE Advertisement Fashion isn’t just worn — it’s inherited, haunted, and stitched through time. Our Fashion Editor returns to the market that quietly made her. There are places in a city that don’t beg for attention. They don’t scream style. They simply exist — like scars. Like old songs that still know your name. Khan Market is one of them. This isn’t a love letter. It’s a confession. And I’m its witness. I walk the market like someone flipping through an old family photo album. Not smiling, not sad — just soaking in the faded corners of a place that has somehow stayed stitched into my bones. There’s a rhythm here. It’s not loud, but it’s persistent. Like a heartbeat you forgot you had. I’m not dressed for spectacle. Off-white cotton shirt. Worn-in sandals. Hair pulled back in a lazy bun. But something about this place makes you want to be honest. Honest in how you look. Be honest in what you remember. Like I’ve lived here a hundred times before in dreams where nothing is clear but the light. This market is a paradox — colonial bones and millennial breath. Tea vendors next to Pilates studios. A rickshaw stalled beside a luxury car. The scent of mogra battling diesel fumes. And somehow, in this mess, I fit perfectly. Not because I want to — because I was built by it. I remember coming here with my mother after school. We never bought anything. We’d just look. Stare at mannequins. Run our fingers over silks we couldn’t afford. That was my first fashion education — silent, sacred, and stolen. And just like that, the memories pour in — unfiltered and oddly specific. The juice stall where my dupatta once got stained with pomegranate. The tailor who gave me a measuring tape like it was a wand. The mirror in a fitting room where I first saw myself not as a child, but as a woman. Back then, I didn’t know the word for style. But I knew how my mother’s dupatta smelled after the monsoon. How a fold could hide a mood. How women looked more confident walking out of shops, even if their wallets were lighter. That’s fashion. Fashion is about more than just the clothes. The change. The quiet transformation. The alchemy. Near the alley’s edge, a teenager leans against a scooter, smoking like it’s his last rebellion before dinner. The smoke curls slowly, thick, indifferent to the world. I watch him without watching. It’s not the cigarette — it’s the solitude. The way people carry themselves when no one’s watching. I don’t smoke. But I get it. We all need rituals. Mine just happen to be older — like folding fabric the right way. Or smelling something and thinking, yes, this belongs to someone I once loved. I pass shelves stacked with old hardcover books, tailors crouched over chalk lines like cloth surgeons, and individuals engaging in casual familiarity — hands brushing, eyes avoiding. The market hums, a soft drone of stories you’re never invited into but feel anyway. I stop at a crooked mirror nailed to a cement pillar. I don’t look in. Just stand. Khan Market isn’t fashionable. It’s flawed. Which is why it works. Like all beautiful things, it’s held together by memory and duct tape. By now, the sun has begun its slow descent into Delhi’s dust. Everything glows in the kind of light that makes regrets feel poetic. I sit on a chipped stone ledge, sipping overly sweet chai from a glass with a small crack down one side. I hold a brown-paper parcel in my lap. No label. Just texture. Inside it? Perhaps it could be fabric intended for a collection in the future. Maybe a gift for my mother. Or maybe just something that smelled like the past and felt like tomorrow. I won’t say. I don’t need to. Fashion, for me, isn’t about shouting. It’s about knowing. And Khan Market — chaotic, cracked, unbothered — taught me how to know things without naming them. Before I leave, I run my hand along the edge of a wooden bench. Carved initials from 1993. A plastic rose melting in the heat. A dog yawns. A rickshaw honks. Life keeps moving. But for a moment, everything is still. I guess some places aren’t destinations. They’re reminders. That I used to be teeny. And brimming with amazement. And that’s where style begins. Then I walk off — not hurried, not slow. Just enough to leave a trace. And Khan Market, that stubborn old soul of a place, exhales. - Meet Ishmeet Kaur, The Winner of Mrs. India World 2024
Meet Ishmeet Kaur, The Winner of Mrs. India World 2024 By Sakshi Batra Meet Ishmeet Kaur, The Winner of Mrs. India World 2024 17 December 2024 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement Journey of Ishmeet Kaur Ishmeet Kaur - Mrs. India World 2024, For me it was not only a journey of determination, passion and self-belief but also a heart full of gratitude. From a childhood rooted in love and support to challenging societal norms, my journey to becoming Mrs. India World goes beyond the crown. It’s a celebration of inner strength, resilience, and the belief that true beauty comes from within. “I’m not just taking away cherished memories with my sister queens, but also the title that has shaped my journey”. “These 7 days have been more than just an experience, they have been a journey of growth, friendship and empowerment, rather than a competition”. "The lessons learned, the bonds formed, and the unforgettable moments will forever remain with me, serving as a constant reminder of the strength and beauty we all hold within." Source of Inspiration When asked about my biggest source of support, “I credit my mother as my guiding light from being my constant support through thick and thin whenever I felt like giving up, she became my strength and reminded me to keep chasing my dreams until I achieve them”. With her unwavering support, I am who I am today. Her guidance helped me overcome every hurdle that came my way. The crown I wear is not merely a symbol of victory—it embodies my hard work, passion, and self-belief. I didn’t just chase my dreams, I lived them. On the other hand, I often see parents not supporting their child's career choices. To them, my advice is simple: “Never give up on your dreams”. Stay true to your passion and trust your journey. If you remain authentic to yourself and your aspirations, then sky’s the limit. "If you follow your heart with determination, success will undoubtedly find its way to you." The best part of my journey has been the unwavering support of not just my mother, but my entire family and my partner, who stood as my pillars of strength in achieving my dreams. Their only advice to me was simple yet profound: stay true to who you are, and always remain humble and grounded with your fellow contestants. “They mentioned that true beauty comes within and that should reflect through my actions”. The Changing Phase of Pageantry I believe that the world has been undergoing a shift, moving away from the traditional beliefs and stereotypical norms, the days are gone when beauty pageants were just about perfect figures and dazzling smiles but in today’s scenario women with different body shapes and sizes are respected and are being welcomed “Today, the pageants celebrate authenticity and individuality” and the focus has also expanded to inner beauty, confidence, intelligence & social awareness rather than just physical appearance. These days “pageants are embracing diversity in terms of ethnicities, backgrounds, age, sexuality and gender identity”. Pageants now place more emphasis on contestants' intelligence, social awareness and community involvement. Winners are often expected to be role models and advocates for social causes”. This shift reflects a broader, more inclusive vision of beauty. However, the path to success is never easy. “Indian women face many societal restrictions, making it hard to build a career, they must navigate countless obstacles and negotiate at every step to overcome the challenges in their path”. But by participating in Mrs. India World, I feel I have broken stereotypes and shown that no dream is impossible, regardless of marital status. Life Lessons Among the many rounds in the pageant, “My favourite was the personal interview round”. It was a truly special moment that I will cherish for a lifetime, as it gave me the opportunity to connect with each judge one-on-one. “Their humility and inspiring guidance left a lasting impression on me”. Power of confidence & Self-belief What sets me apart from others is not beauty with brains, it was my bolstering confidence, determination and self-belief that got me here and stood me out from everyone else. “I would suggest everyone to follow their heart and not give heat to negative perspectives”. I can't deny that there were moments when I wanted to take a break, do nothing, and just relax. But then I had a self-realisation “I was fortunate enough to be selected among so many talented and brilliant women”. It was a golden opportunity that I couldn’t afford to miss, especially with my dreams so close to being realised. This deep realisation pushed me to stay focused and true to my passion. “It reignited the fire in me to work hard and pursue my dreams with full dedication and honesty”. Favourite Cuisine Even the strict dieters have cravings and for me, it’s Chinese food. "If I had to choose a cheat meal, it would definitely be my favourite Chinese dishes - I just can’t resist them!" Celebrating Talent & Creativity I would be incredibly proud to judge the pageant, and if given the opportunity to create my own round, “I would choose a talent round where all participants could showcase their unique abilities”. Whether it’s singing, dancing, poetry, drama, or any other talent, this round would offer each contestant the chance to express their creativity and passion. “I believe it would provide them with an opportunity to truly shine in something they love, creating a beautiful, personal, and inspiring experience." Redefining Success Ishmeet’s journey is a powerful reminder that success is not just about achievements, but about breaking barriers and staying true to oneself. "Dreams take effort, and sometimes they need a push," but the beauty of the journey lies in overcoming challenges and letting your inner light shine. Her story teaches us that beauty is not just about appearances; it’s about strength, resilience, and the courage to dream big. Ishmeet is living proof that with determination and belief, no dream is ever too far out of reach. - Repeating clothes isn't a faux pas anymore
Repeating clothes isn't a faux pas anymore by Aishwarya Repeating clothes isn't a faux pas anymore 5 November 2022 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement Fashion is an integral part of our personality. We constantly take inspiration from social media and celebrities. Though we get to know the fashion trends from them, we also get the notion that we have to wear a new piece of clothing every single time. Moreso, the people who have a presence on social media get influenced by celebrities and fashion influencers. It’s almost a nightmare for social media influencers, to repeat their clothes. Even we expect them to wear new clothes every single time, which is neither possible nor viable. The celebrities we look up to are the ones who get their dresses sourced from various mediums. For a common man like us, it’s not a viable option to opt for. Repeating clothes have been made up into a controversy that, we now need to normalize it. Repeating clothes is one of the best decisions you can take because it has a lot of benefits. You don’t have to be a sustainability influencer, to promote repeating the clothes. It is a very basic thing that we all have been doing, now even celebrities are opening up about it. Many celebrities are seen repeating their clothes and owning them with confidence and grace. Now, let us see the 3 reasons why you should also repeat your clothes. SUSTAINABILITY : According to research, we almost generate 92 million tonnes of waste every year. This number is not surprising because that’s what happens when we are expected to wear new clothes every single time we step out of our house. By simply repeating your clothes, you can reduce textile wastage and carbon footprint. It is to be noted that the clothing industry generates 10% of all global carbon emissions and, it is the second biggest industrial polluter. The fast fashion culture has given rise to carbon emissions. The fashion industry has gained its profit through fast fashion, but our environment is paying for it. Fashion is all about you and, your confidence is what makes it fashionable and not the attires. DECISION FATIGUE : Do you remember the co-founder and CEO of Facebook, wearing that grey t-shirt? Well, it has become a uniform for Mark Zuckerberg. However, most billionaires wear the same set of clothing and, it has a reason for it. They are well aware of a phenomenon called decision fatigue- a fatigue that deteriorates the quality of the decision taken by human beings. Our brain requires a lot of energy for making a decision and, that is the reason why most billionaires prefer to wear the same clothes. By doing so, they reduce one more event of decision-making. It is very important for them, to manage their decision-making energy and focus on the more important ones. SAVE MONEY : We all spend so much of our income on buying new clothes. Rather we could save money by thrifting or borrowing the clothes that are mostly a one-time fashion. The dresses for weddings are expensive and one-time fashion, these can be borrowed, thrifted or, reused with different accessories. We can reuse many of our clothes by just accessorizing them differently. These tweaks will make you look put together and also save some penny for the end of the month. Repeating your clothes can be done without the fear of missing out. Fashion is to make us feel happy and confident and, even a wardrobe of 20 clothes will do it for you. Create your fashion and, be one. Create your fashion and, be one. #sustainability #slowfashion #sustainablefashion #fashion #sustainableclothing SEARCH Why does Fashion Need Fashion Shows FASHION From Dreams To Crowns: Anuradha Garg’s Inspiring Mrs. India Story FASHION Colour Psychology in Fashion: Explained FASHION Legendary Female Icons Who Made Fashion Statements In The 20th Century FASHION The House of Chanel: History FASHION POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement By Shriniwas Kodape The Snake That Wore Red: Inside The Vision Cultured™ Revolution 19 October 2025 FASHION By Sakshi Shah Francesca Bellettini Ushers In Gucci’s New Dawn 19 September 2025 FASHION By Shriniwas Kodape Dibba Studio: Weaving The Future Of Fashion At Thailand Fashion Week AW25-26 2 September 2025 FASHION By Shriniwas Kodape Aksstagga: Threads That Whisper Love, Memory, And Eternity 21 August 2025 FASHION RELATED POSTS Advertisement

- Bangkok By The River: Inside The Peninsula’s Quiet Grandeur
By Shriniwas Kodape By Shriniwas Kodape Bangkok By The River: Inside The Peninsula’s Quiet Grandeur 20 August 2025 TRAVEL Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement Twilight had just begun to fold itself across the Chao Phraya when I first saw her— The Peninsula Bangkok, rising with the kind of confidence that doesn’t need to gesture. The boat glided to its private dock, lanterns flickering above calm water, and the bustle of the city surrendered to stillness. No chaos, no performance. Just the hush of arrival. Inside, the marble floors stretched beneath vaulted ceilings, and a piano played somewhere in the background—nothing showy, just enough to slow your breath. The staff moved with the elegance of memory, anticipating before asking, offering before needing. No script. Just grace in motion. My room unfolded like a private retreat. Every detail placed, not posed. Polished teak, soft cream tones, silk pillows, and views that spanned the river's long, whispering curve. There was no need to find peace here—it had already been drawn into the walls. A deep soaking tub waited beneath bay windows, and the lights dimmed with a touch. It didn’t feel like a hotel room. It felt like someone had prepared a space for you to arrive and reset. In the mornings, breakfast happened by the river, where the day bloomed slowly over silver trays and shaded pavilions. The buffet was a quiet procession of flavor—Thai congee rich with ginger and fried shallots, mango carved into perfect angles, fresh dim sum steaming in bamboo baskets. I sat watching longtail boats cut through the dawn mist while sipping espresso from a white porcelain cup that somehow felt lighter than air. Afternoons belonged to the pool, hidden behind gardens and Thai pavilions. It wasn’t just about cooling down—it was about floating into another rhythm. Time loosened its grip. If you wandered further, the Peninsula Spa waited across the courtyard, housed in a classic Thai teak house. The signature treatments didn’t just relax—they erased. The sound of Tibetan singing bowls, oils steeped in herbs grown steps away, hands that moved not with technique alone, but with intention. Come evening, the hotel transformed without spectacle. Lanterns shimmered above the River Bar, jazz drifted across the terrace, and cocktails balanced Thai herbs with citrus, spice, and restraint. My Thaijito—crafted with local rum, peach schnapps, lime, and fresh mint—tasted like everything the air couldn’t say out loud. Dinner was a ceremony in slow fire. Thiptara , the hotel’s Thai riverside restaurant, waited beneath ancient banyan trees and soft candlelight. Each dish came like a memory from someone’s childhood kitchen—pomelo salads, grilled prawns, duck red curry rich with basil and coconut cream. You could hear the river beside you. You could taste history in the rice. What sets The Peninsula apart isn’t just its polish. It's poetry. The staff remember your name. The orchids seem to bloom just when you need softness. The elevator glides so silently you question gravity. You feel known without being observed. The Peninsula Bangkok is a memory in motion—where the river writes your mornings and the sky seals your nights. Every corner holds intention, every gesture feels timeless. From the scent of frangipani at dusk to the soft jazz murmuring over the water at dinner, the experience lingers—unforced, unshaken. It doesn’t shout. It simply stays. - Shriya Saran Speaks Fondly Of Her Relationship With Her Loving Daughter, Radha
Shriya Saran Speaks Fondly Of Her Relationship With Her Loving Daughter, Radha by Aparajita Jaiswal Shriya Saran Speaks Fondly Of Her Relationship With Her Loving Daughter, Radha 22 February 2023 COVER STORIES Advertisement Shriya Saran, an Indian actress who works predominantly in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi-language films though aspired to become a well-known dancer, she became an actress with her film debut in 2001 with the Telugu film Ishtam, and had her first commercial success with Nuvve Nuvve. Saran subsequently appeared in several more Telugu films alongside Hindi and Tamil films. In addition to her work in films, Saran has been the brand ambassador for brands across India, endorsing beauty and health products. She was also the brand ambassador for Celebrity Cricket League for its first two seasons. Shriya Saran is a versatile actress with a standing in multiple film industries, having done films in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, English, Malayalam and Kannada. We are all looking forward to her upcoming projects, Kazaa with Upendra and Sudeep, Music school with Sharman Joshi and a show with Dharma. In a Candid interview with Aparajita Jaiswal she relays how grateful she is to be a part of cinema and having lived in a country that is so beautifully united even though we have such diverse cultures and inhabit disparate worlds of thought. She talks about taking a flight from Delhi to Hyderabad and how that experience changed her life, opening her to a range of cultures and then eventually learning multiple languages including Tamil. “This journey has taught me everything that I am today and it has made me stronger. It has made me understand the power of cinema and how beautiful it is. I’m so grateful that I’m part of cinema. Also, I feel it’s beautiful how language changes the flavour of people. Every language has a different sense of humour and different ways of telling stories but one thing that unites cinema is that one ‘camera’ that we act for and that one ‘action and take’. It’s magic that happens and that’s what makes us alive. I am so grateful I’m part of the cinema.” Shriya Saran speaks about her experience working with Ajay Devgn, one of Bollywood’s gems and a legend. “With Ajay Devgan, I have worked in Drishyam 1, Drishyam 2 and RRR. Thankfully with Krishna’s blessings, they have all been very big hits. It was a pleasure working with someone as trained and as articulate as he is. He lights up the camera, he lights up the screen and he’s a very giving actor. He speaks with his eyes and expresses so beautifully with his eyes. He’s a wonderful actor. He gives a lot to the actor he works with too. It’s just amazing to work with him.” Today’s world and today’s cinema is perceivably about beauty and the visual arts. Shriya talks about going back to her pre-pregnancy shape, being a public figure. “It’s a visual medium and I’m an actor. Visually, everything has to be perfect when I’m on stage and when I’m in front of the camera. So, there is the stress of losing weight and today, we live in an Instagram world where everything has to be perfect. There are filters and what not. I feel like it’s about the pressure that you put on yourself today. Today, I’m very respectful of my body and I love what my body has done for me. I’m very grateful for it, I’m very grateful to Krishna for my body and for my health. I’m moving towards being healthy, doing a lot of yoga, dance and kathak. It’s more about competing with my own self and being a better version of myself than trying to look like somebody else.” Therapy for mental health issues amongst men and women in today's age and climate is a must and a rising issue. Shriya Saran comes forward to speak more about it. “I think that it is very interesting that mental health is being addressed, thanks to a lot of people. Somebody who really came forward and spoke a lot about it is Deepika Padukone and then Alia Bhatt’s own sister spoke about it. I was talking to Ishaan and his wife spoke a lot about it. So, a lot of people who talked about it were more honest about what they were feeling before it was supposed to be not cool to talk about it but now it’s more normalized and I’m very grateful to all the beautiful people who came out and spoke about mental health.” Shriya Saran also talks about women empowerment and how it should be about equality more than anything else. “I think women empowerment for me is all about getting equal rights for women and men and respect. Just giving us equal opportunities and actually stop asking questions like ‘How will you work now that you are with child?’ Or ‘How will you work now that you are married?’. Just creating a space which is very favourable and easy for women to work.” Women empowerment means strengthening women with all the rights of social, economic, and educational needs. It is to create an environment having no gender inequality for women. It is to empower them with equal rights in the family, society, community, and workplace. Everyone loves seeing Shriya and her relationship with Radha on her Instagram. She speaks very fondly of her as she says, “‘The mother’ has changed everything in me. Radha is everything to me. She’s my life, she’s my sunshine. I see her feet on the sand when she runs and when she touches water, her little fingers and she says these little little words: ‘Mama’, ‘Papa’. It’s just beautiful, every day’s a new day. I love her. She’s making me a better person. I love my work more now and I feel like today, I want to make her proud and everyday I’m at work, I’m on the set, I want to make her proud. I want her to watch my films one day and say ‘I love what you’ve done, Mama. I’m very proud of you.’" SEARCH A Journey Shaped By Courage, Creativity, And Social Media With Aditi Sharma COVER STORIES Inner Joy Trails My Inspiration : A Candid Conversation With The Creative Anushka Kaushik COVER STORIES Barkha Singh’s candid candour makes the way to an eye-catching interview COVER STORIES Educate, Empower, Excel: Priyanka Chahar Choudhary's Inspirational Overture COVER STORIES Waluscha De Sousa On Being Her ‘True Self’ And Going On The Dream Journey COVER STORIES POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement By Sakshi Shah Khushi Bhardwaj Is Growing Up On Screen, And Doing It Her Way 31 December 2025 COVER STORIES By Shriniwas Kodape The Eternal Strings Of Amaan & Ayaan Ali Bangash 4 October 2025 COVER STORIES By Anurag Sen Vivian Dsena: The Fluke Star Who Became Television’s Undying Heartthrob 25 September 2025 COVER STORIES By Ananya Patankar Unscripted, Unstoppable: The Many Lives Of Christine Gulasatree 22 August 2025 COVER STORIES RELATED POSTS Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement
- How Do Some People Not Get Acne No Matter What
How Do Some People Not Get Acne No Matter What By Anushka Sharma How Do Some People Not Get Acne No Matter What 15 April 2024 LIFESTYLE Advertisement Hey there! Let's dive into the intriguing world of acne and why some folks seem to dodge it altogether. Acne is like that unwelcome guest who shows up uninvited, but while most people deal with it at some point, others breeze through life with clear skin. What's their secret? Let's find out! Blame It on the Genes: Yep, it's all in the genes! If your parents or close family members battled acne, chances are it might come knocking on your door too. But it's not just about inheriting a single "acne gene." Your genetic makeup decides how sensitive your skin is to hormones and environmental stuff, and how good it is at fighting off acne-causing germs. Hormones, Hormones, Hormones: Now, let's talk about those pesky hormones. During puberty, your body goes into overdrive with hormones like testosterone (yep, even girls have it!). These hormones love to crank up oil production in your skin, leading to clogged pores and zits. Teens often get pimples in the T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin), while adults, especially ladies, might see them pop up around the cheeks and jawline. Sweat and Junk Food: Picture this: you're smashing it at the gym, but then, bam! Acne decides to crash the party. Sweat mixed with tight workout gear can create a cozy environment for acne-causing bacteria. So, wear comfy, breathable clothes and shower right after sweating it out. And when it comes to food, greasy, sugary, and fast food might be tasty, but they can also fuel acne. A balanced diet with lots of good stuff can help keep those pimples at bay. Stress Messes Things Up: Life can get stressful, right? But did you know stress can mess with your skin too? When you're stressed, your body releases a hormone called cortisol, which tells your skin to produce more oil. More oil means more chances for acne to crash the party. So, find ways to chill out, like deep breathing, going for a walk, or chatting with a friend. The Big Finish: So, there you have it! While some lucky ducks seem to breeze through life without a pimple in sight, most of us have to deal with acne at some point. But understanding why it happens and taking care of your skin can help keep those pesky pimples at bay. So, whether you're blessed with clear skin or fighting off zits left and right, remember: taking care of your skin is always a good idea! - Karishma Kotak Playing Her Innings In Fashion, Sports And Fitness
Karishma Kotak Playing Her Innings In Fashion, Sports And Fitness by Rupashree Ravi Karishma Kotak Playing Her Innings In Fashion, Sports And Fitness 30 June 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement Actress, model, and television presenter Karishma Kotak is a well-known face in the entertainment industry. From Bigg Boss to acting in films to hosting the IPL, she has come a long way and has found her path in showbiz. She is also a huge health and fitness enthusiast. In today’s dynamic and ever-changing industry, Karishma Kotak is definitely an all-rounder. Such an industry with immense talent and competition can be difficult for the new generation to leave their mark. “I believe leaving a mark is a personal journey. I don't compare my success to anybody else. A successful Bollywood actress will look at Julia Roberts and think that they're not successful, but they are. I think the industry keeps shifting. Right now, I have done a movie called Ira and I've done a guest appearance in Shaad Ali’s Mister Mummy . But I didn't have this kind of work two years ago. If you're willing to work hard, there will be so many opportunities for you. If you're good, you can get that work. I don't know if I necessarily want to leave a mark on the industry. I'm just happy that I'm working.” When asked about her experience so far as an actress, she said, “I am very busy with anchoring and doing projects in-between. I'm just happy because I think as an artist, you just want to do good work so whether I'm anchoring IPL, whether I'm in Dubai hosting a T10 League, whether I'm doing a movie or shooting for a brand, I'm just happy to be given these opportunities. Because that's the best thing you can do.” Currently, Kotak is working on many different projects. She recently wrapped up the dark web techno-thriller, Ira, and will also be seen portraying a guest role in the film, Mister Mummy . The movie also stars Ritesh and Genelia Deshmukh. Kotak cites Penelope Cruz as her inspiration along with Vicky Cristina Barcelona. She mentioned that her favourite role so far was her guest appearance in Freaky Ali alongside Arbaaz Khaan, Sohail Khan, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. “It was a really fun opportunity. We got to shoot on this beautiful golf course in Pune. It was such a fond memory for me. Although it was just a short cameo, it was a lot of fun and I worked with a great team,” she said. Sharing her views on body shaming and body positivity, she said, “I think there's a lot of pressure on women to look a certain size and a certain way. And I definitely think social media has a huge part to play in it. People need to understand that a lot of celebrities go under the knife to meet unrealistic expectations. I believe if you lose too much weight, it ages your face, and it makes you look older. So, to look youthful, a little bit of plumpness on the face, and a little bit of collagen on the face are needed. There's no such thing as fault reduction. I believe you should learn to enjoy life, but in a balance.” Kotak also left an inspiring message for the younger generation and all her fans . “I think young women and men need to stop putting pressure on themselves to be a size zero or a size two or go on unnecessary keto diets or intermittent fasting. Everybody has a different body and their body reacts to things differently. What works for someone else will not always work out for you. So do the research. Take social media every day in small doses. Remember there's more to life than your weight and your health is the most important aspect. So, thank you to my lovely followers on Instagram and Twitter for following me and for your love and your kindness.” SEARCH A Journey Shaped By Courage, Creativity, And Social Media With Aditi Sharma COVER STORIES Inner Joy Trails My Inspiration : A Candid Conversation With The Creative Anushka Kaushik COVER STORIES Barkha Singh’s candid candour makes the way to an eye-catching interview COVER STORIES Educate, Empower, Excel: Priyanka Chahar Choudhary's Inspirational Overture COVER STORIES Waluscha De Sousa On Being Her ‘True Self’ And Going On The Dream Journey COVER STORIES POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement By Sakshi Shah Khushi Bhardwaj Is Growing Up On Screen, And Doing It Her Way 31 December 2025 COVER STORIES By Shriniwas Kodape The Eternal Strings Of Amaan & Ayaan Ali Bangash 4 October 2025 COVER STORIES By Anurag Sen Vivian Dsena: The Fluke Star Who Became Television’s Undying Heartthrob 25 September 2025 COVER STORIES By Ananya Patankar Unscripted, Unstoppable: The Many Lives Of Christine Gulasatree 22 August 2025 COVER STORIES RELATED POSTS Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement
- Festival of Stones
SOCIETY by Neha Pande Festival of Stones 27 July 2020 SOCIETY Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement Bagwal also known as DevidhuraFair is celebrated at Maa Varahi Devi Temple in Devidhura located at a distance of 45km from Lohaghat in the Champawat district of Uttarakhand. Devidhura also marks the tri-junction of Almora, Pithoragarh and Nainital districts and is famous for its rich cultural fair that is celebrated with devotion and enthusiasm. This fair is celebrated every year during Rakshabandhan that falls on the full moon day of the month of Shravan. Thousands of people from Uttarakhand and Nepal come to visit this grand fair. Bagwal is celebrated by dividing four different groups, collectively known as ‘Khams’. The four groups are four different tribes – Gharwal Kham, Chamyal Kham, Lamgriha Kham and Valig Kham. The fair starts out with the worship of Goddess Varahi, after the worship Prasad is distributed and this is when everything gets a bit tricky. The members of each Kham position themselves on the four corners of the field of the temple and the priest commences the festival with the sound of the ‘shankh’/shell. Bagwal is no normal festival with just worship and joy but here the Khams are fighters who carry sticks, stones and a farra/shield for the fight. These fighters throw stones at one another while at the same time protecting themselves with the shield. It does not matter how wounded or injured they get, the fight does not stop till the priest concludes the fight with the sound of the ‘shankh’. While the fight is going on the rest of the attendees cheer their teams with fight drums, folk songs and folk dances. After the fight all the injured are treated with ‘bichchu grass’ ie. Urtica Dioca. The Myth behind the Bagwal festival:- According to the myth, there once was a tradition of sacrificing a man (Narbali) from the Kham each year to Goddess Varahi. On one such year, it was the turn of this old woman to sacrifice her grandson, with a heavy heart and mind full of devotion she prepared her grandson for the sacrifice. This touched the Goddess’s heart and she spared his life under the condition that an equal amount of blood should be offered to her. Since that day, Bagwal fair is celebrated by the people where the members of each Kham throw stones at each other in order to draw sacrificial blood for Goddess Varahi. Reason for taking this Cultural Fair :- The main reason I choose to write upon Bagwal cultural fair is because my hometown is in Uttarakhand and I also wanted to address the issue of ‘Bali’/Sacrifice. Sacrificing animals as well as people have been going on in our religion as well as many other religions since the dawn of time; from Mayan, Pagan, Hinduism, Muslim etc. Sacrifice or ‘Bali’ in Hindu religion has its own significance, it is symbolic of getting rid of 6 evil forces/enemies ie. Kama– Lust Krodha – Anger Lobha–Greed Mada– Pride Moha – Attachments Matsarya – Jealousy By the sacrificial festival of Bagwal the basic idea of sacrificing men or animals was stopped yet the sacrificial blood was spilled by the act of fighting and throwing stones at each other. Our culture and heritage is one of the oldest; yet, I wanted to showcase some of the flaws in it which have changed and evolved but are still there. In August 2019, 100 men got injured under 10 minutes while celebrating Bagwal in Champwant district, Uttarakhand on Thursday. Even though the human sacrifice was stopped yet, hundreds of people got injured which is not a small thing. This is just one small case, there are many more cases tied up to this festival. Even though there is a high court ban on the use of stones during the festival yet the locals seem to sneak in with stones while outsmarting the authorities.Even a lot of local authorities encourage this practice instead of putting a stop on it. I personally believe that the concept behind ‘Bali’ is not bad because every Dussehra we burn Ravan as a sign of victory of good over evil, just like that ‘Bali’ is the concept of sacrificing 6 evils to the goddess yet the literal concept of ‘Bali’ ie. To sacrifice a living breathing creature or to injure one another is completely wrong. God didn’t make us to harm each other therefore the literal concept of ‘Bali’ should be condemned just like the literal practice of Bagwal should be put to an end. The ideology, unlike the festival, should carry on and pass on from generation to generation. Bagwal is a beautiful festival from Kumaon, Uttarakhand which should be celebrated with joy and enthusiasm, without harming each other as the concept of Bagwal is beautiful just like the myth. Bagwal is the story of love and sacrifice therefore it should be practiced with love and sacrifice of our inner demons instead of throwing stones towards each other to draw out blood as a symbol. The festival is a perfect blend of folk songs, folk dances and folklores. And just like Bagwal our country has hundreds of festivals and practices with a beautiful story but an unlikely tragic execution. #MohaAttachments #Myth #6evilforcesenemiesie #Devidhurafair #Tribal #Regionalfestival #IndianMyths #Indianfestival #MaaVarahiDeviTemple #Bagwalfestival #MatsaryaJealousy #Champawatdistrict #KrodhaAnger #Shravan #Sacrifice #Culturalfair #Lohaghat #IndianRitual #Uttarakhand #LobhaGreed #MaaVarahi #KamaLust #Rituals #Bali #Khams #MadaPride #Rakshabandhan SEARCH Why India is the most depressed country in the world?
