by Akash Khatri by Akash Khatri Why Purchase a Ticket to Tokyo? 1 January 2020 TRAVEL Advertisement Advertisement Tokyo, one of the world’s most densely populated cities and the capital of Japan. Tokyo’s advanced reach towards new technology and high population has made it officially bag the title – ‘Tokyo Metropolis.’ Cherry Blossom, being the national symbol of Japan have their own aura and prestige. People await them in the month of April. Their presence is marked by the beginning of their long-standing tradition of welcoming Spring – called Hanami. This festival gives a beautiful message of appreciating the temporary beauty of nature. The youth of Tokyo express themselves on through street fashion. This alternative street fashion can be found in the Harajuku district of Tokyo. Each of the shops are independently owned. The self-owned cafes have a vibe of their own. All these factors come together to give this street a unique and trendy look. The usual streets of Tokyo present comfort to the travelers in the form of vending machines. Vending machines are available in Tokyo at every twelve-meter distance. Be it hamburgers, clothes, beverages, candies, ice creams or milk packs; everything is available in these magic pockets! Another famous running street of Tokyo is called Tsukiji. Tsukiji is a wholesale fish market. It’s a huge magnetic for all the sea-food lovers. Every morning at sharp 5 o’clock, live tuna auctions are the main attractions. It also attracts the tourists and free tickets for visitors are available to the public every morning at 4am. A city which has so much to offer, is so densely populated and attracts millions of tourists. This makes the city known for its extremely busy public transportation. Shinjuku station is the largest and busiest railway station in the world. It offers service to average of 3.70 million passengers each day. A dream spot and yet another reason to visit this beautiful city is the famous Tokyo tower. Inspired by Eiffel tower, it was finished in 1958. When talking of dreams, let us imagine Disney land of the U.S. Tokyo Disneyland was the first park outside the U.S. Another rewarding destination is Mount Takao, the most visited mountain in the world. On the other hand, Mount Fuji is only visible 80 days a year! Also, Tokyo is home to some of the most expensive and acclaimed restaurants world-wide. Aragawa, a renowned steak restaurant is in the basement of an office tower in the Shinbashi district of Tokyo. One of the best reasons for a non-vegetarian food lover to travel in Tokyo is to try new dishes and relish exquisite meals which are available nowhere else. Equally best reason to visit this city is to shop and save on tax. A passport allows one to shop tax free. Roam around freely and peacefully as Tokyo is one of the safest cities to travel to. • New York Fashion Week Fall Collection

New York Fashion Week Fall Collection by Akash Khatri New York Fashion Week Fall Collection 1 January 2021 FASHION Advertisement New York Fashion Week is one of the “Big 4” fashion weeks in the world and is held semi-annually each year in February and September. This year all the live shows struggled to follow their conventional path due to pandemics, New York fashion week was no exception either and for months fashion designers struggled to cope with the “new normal” but definitely came up with some amazing collection. As pandemic has changed the trend of fashion to some extent and with most of the people working from home, the New York fashion week showcased the basic yet chic versions of the clothing rather than going all hunky-dory and glittery. The main cause taken up by most of the fashion designers was “Sustainable fashion” that would protect our environment and in times of such crisis like we are in 2020, giving attention to the environment and global warming is essential. One off-putting thing that the New York fashion week missed is to witness a few of the famous designers participating in New York fashion week’s fall collection. Although looking at the brighter side, the absence of few famous and well-known designers created room for the new and younger designers to shine through. Few names that won heart in the New York Fashion Week fall collection of 2020 are: Marc Jacobs: He highlighted more of the basics in an old school way. A-line coats and Mini shift dresses were the major highlights from his collection. Marina Moscone: She is known for her minimalistic styling. However, she surprised everyone in the fall collection and came up with some sexy options for the evening, some suits, and even used leopard prints for gowns. Prabal Gurung: He expressed his New York fall collection as a love letter to the city which deeply is fascinated about fashion and colours. He showcased the love for glamour meticulously via suits to gowns to jackets. Khaite: She presented her collection as a tale of two women from two different worlds which blended so perfectly and did not even urge us to choose a side either. Such diligently worked collection. There were far too many talented designers who gave everyone major fashion goals and showed how fashion would probably look like in the coming year. Hope you guys have taken note of how suits, A-line dresses, and animal prints and evening gowns won heart at the fall collection in New York fashion week and would keep your wardrobe updated accordingly. • Nikhita Gandhi construes her journey

Nikhita Gandhi construes her journey by Aarti Singh Nikhita Gandhi construes her journey 2 November 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement In an exclusive interview with L’utopia, the “MAHARANI” of Indian pop, Nikhita Gandhi decodes her journey from learning and working with A R Rahman to Naach Meri Rani and then Maharani. Talking about the legend, A R Rahman, Nikhita added how creative he is with developing songs right from scratch. “AR sir is probably the most interesting and vastly talented person I’ve ever met. You can never be bored around him! He is constantly trying new things and learning and adapting and moulding his craft. It’s so inspiring! I’ve sat in on some sessions when he was composing a song from scratch, it was pretty incredible to watch his process. He is unbelievably quick with the DAW and production and it’s a treat to see the magic happen!” It is pretty clear that Nikhita herself is insanely creative when it comes to her songs. Take Maharani for instance. She further explained what this song portrays for her and what was the inspiration behind it. “MAHARANI celebrates women in the most breezy and effortless way. That’s what really resonated for me with this composition. I always wanted to do a song about women that didn’t necessarily have to stand up for women or sound like a “cause” and instead simply uplifts women in a cool casual POP way! That’s probably what I love the most about this record, it’s suave and fun and still can be meaningful.” There’s so much that goes behind every song. Each and every song is unique and has a distinct thought behind it along with a story. Such was the case with Maharani as well. “I was visiting my friends in LA after my India Tour ended in July this year, and of course these friends happen to be pretty epic musicians. I don’t think they need an introduction but Shankar Tucker and Vidya Vox were hosting us and so of course we got into the studio and they played us some of their music. Ironically this was a song that Shankar wanted to play me because they didn’t want to release the track and felt I might connect with it more. It was instant love for me. I told him it’s a great song and that I’d love to finish it! So, when I got back to India, I rewrote the lyrics in Hindi and changed it to mean what being a Queen to me is. And this song was born! The best thing about completing this whole process was the video shoot, because as it turns out Shankar and Vids were in India in September for a show and so I thought it would be perfect to have them cameo in the video while they were in town! The whole thing sort of just fell into place and that’s what I love about the journey of each song.” While talking about the direction of the music industry, Nikhita shared how on-screen representation helps an artist become more known and emerge fully. “I’m excited to see the music industry stand on its feet. Where a singer or composer is famous for his/her work and not an unknown entity in a film where the audience only identifies with the actors in it. I would love to see more of that. I think if Badshah can feature in his song, in a film then it’s only a matter of time that we see more and more artists represent their identity on screen as well! This is where the audience will truly identify with their artist and true fans will emerge!” She previously pointed out how the music scene is in an unsure yet exciting space. Elaborating that she added how we can see a lot of trial and error. “Like I mentioned a little earlier about not knowing what’s working, it definitely puts music investors in a complicated spot but makes the answer really easy for musicians- do what you do best, not what’s working; cause what’s working also may not work for you (lol). That may sound confusing but basically the best formula is no formula and just making music from the heart! Syncing on film artist’s music in films is also happening these days in India like the west which I think is amazing! A lot of credit for that goes to the Punjabi industry who have truly revolutionized certain perceptions of the non-film artist.” Further talking about the potential for musicians to grow in all the industries, Nikhita disclosed how she thinks that there is so much one can do especially now that the independent scene is also getting its own space and followers. “We see a rise in the hip hop scene and singer-songwriter space and honestly the power is with the people. I think anyone who spends a little time understanding how streaming and music distribution works, can figure out their music career and find their voice. I recently visited the inauguration of the new batch of a music school and interacted with the freshers. I was really delighted to see that a lot of them were not simply enamoured by the well sold image of the frontman but had serious aspirations- some wanted to be producers, some sound engineers and so on. I was happy to see that the youth knows what it wants and is intelligent enough to find its path!” Music has definitely gotten a boost due to the onslaught of social media. She pointed out how remarkable it really is. “It’s kind of amazing how in the most algorithmic and calculatable phases of humanity with apps and data, music is still so ineffable. A common phrase I’ve been hearing these days is “kuch bhi chal raha hai” (anything/everything is getting famous) or “we don’t know what works” which means no real formula can be applied to music and what really connects with people. One great thing about social media is that you are directly in touch with the world, a person sitting in Iceland can be a fan of a new artist emerging from a small town in Madhya Pradesh. What really blows my mind though is that not knowing what works- it’s sort of a testament to the fact that music will always be a very personal and wonderous experience and each listener will always interpret the same song differently- that is a timeless truth!” Nikhita feels that not just social media but live shows are also a great way to share creative space with the world, especially her fans and something that she absolutely loves. “What’s there not to love really? Being on stage is so exhilarating! It’s that weirdly gratifying mixture of nervousness and thrill and happiness like being on a rollercoaster, but better! On stage you get to share energies with your audience which I think is a very beautiful experience. It can many times be therapeutic and one of the purest forms of joy! In the India Tour I did early this year, there was a moment when I was singing my original Bura Na Mano Yaara and the audience was singing along, they knew the words that I had written, by creation. It felt so amazing I don’t think I could describe it.” She feels that her roots and values have been something that helped her grow as a person and as an artist. “I’m blessed with the most incredible parents. I don’t think anyone could ask for a better mother and father. Each day I try to be more like them and that’s what takes me forward. They are so hardworking and caring and giving and I think I could go on and on about them, but the truth is one thing they’ve always told me to stay grounded and humble and not change for anything.” On a bona fide note, she shared how although there have been challenges along the way, she likes to look at them as learning curves and puzzles that she gets to figure out. “The music industry like most artistic fields can be pretty volatile and some days can have way more clarity than others so it’s important to constantly self-actualise. Though a Bollywood and film music singer I’ve also parallelly been an indie artist trying to release her own songs and having to do everything from producing to shooting my own videos to editing them and it can all be very overwhelming. But I like to look at things in a good light and try to turn the obstacles into fun new things I get to learn. That’s pretty much how I started using music production DAWs and editing softwares, cause as they say, necessity is the mother of invention! It also helps when you genuinely enjoy doing all of it!” She feels that there’s always going to be conflicting advice and problems- dress glamorously, dress differently; charge more, charge less; be picky about your songs, don’t be picky and be accessible— there’s always all kinds of advice but at the end of the day you listen to that voice inside of you, and always ALWAYS do only what feels right. The ‘MAHARANI’ singer is also huge on body positivity and inclusiveness. “It really makes me happy to see that such conversations have begun and are normalised topics now. I remember growing up an insecure chubby girl who would always feel the need to overcompensate her size with her personality. I would feel that boys saw me as a friend and not a potential girlfriend because I wasn’t skinny, and would look at my thin friends and want a body like theirs. As I grew older, I realised how unidimensionally I was thinking and that all body types are sexy and beautiful and have their own charm. What were my “thunder thighs” or “fat legs” and how they became the hottest thing about me. It’s strange how far a little bit of self-confidence can take someone and I’m sure a lot of body insecure girls and boys must have had it worse. I’m so glad though that things have changed over the years but I think overall the media and TV still, by large, represents beauty standards in the old school way. We’ve just scratched the surface. But every step counts and I feel so happy to associate with a magazine that resonates with body positivity and puts a smile on the face of my younger self and hopefully many other kids too!” Lastly, Nikhita shared how like MAHARANI, she hopes to see more of her singles and self-composed releases also do as well as her film playback music. “That truly is one of my personal goals and visions. I want MAHARANI to be playing next to Naach Meri Rani and all my music to be loved equally! • Christian Dior: missed designer and his legacy

Christian Dior: missed designer and his legacy by Aparajita Jaiswal Christian Dior: missed designer and his legacy 1 May 2021 FASHION Advertisement What we know about Christian Dior, commonly known as Dior, is that it’s a French luxury goods company controlled and chaired by French businessman Bernard Arnault, who also heads LVMH, the world’s largest luxury group. But what many of us do not know about the brand is its origin. The company was founded in 1946 by designer Christian Dior. It currently designs and retails leather goods, fashion accessories, footwear, jewellery, timepieces, fragrance, makeup, and skin care products, while also maintaining its tradition as a creator of haute-couture under the Christian Dior Couture division. The Christian Dior label remains largely for women’s offerings, although the company also operates the Dior Homme division for men and the baby Dior label for children’s wear. Products are sold throughout its portfolio of retail stores worldwide, as well as through its online store. The House of Dior was established on 16 December 1946 in “a private house” at 30 Avenue Montaigne in Paris. However, the current Dior Corporation celebrates “1947” as the opening year. Businessman Marcel Boussac decided to financially back Dior. Boussac first invited Dior to design for Philippe et Gaston, but Christian Dior declined as he wanted to start his own brand instead of reviving an old one, leading to his first launch, New Look, a fashion collection for Spring–Summer 1947, on 12th February 1947. The company was a majorly owned affiliate of Boussac Saint-Freres S.A. and was really a vanity project for Boussac. Nevertheless, Dior had a non-controlling stake in the firm and allowed a great part of his namesake label despite Boussac’s reputation as a “Control freak”. Expansion from France began by the end of 1949 with the opening of a Christian Dior boutique in New York City. After this, Christian Dior signed a contract with Douglas Cox for Dior to produce original designs and for Douglas Cox to create them in his Flinders Lane workshop in Australia. In 1950, Jacques Rouët, the general manager of Dior Ltd, devised a licensing program to place the now-renowned name of “Christian Dior” visibly on a variety of luxury goods. Members of the French Chamber of Couture denounced it as a degrading action for the haute-couture image. Nevertheless, licensing became a profitable move and began a trend to continue for decades to come, which all couture houses followed. The company operated firmly established locations in Mexico, Cuba, Canada, and Italy by the end of 1953. By the mid-1950s, the House of Dior operated a well-respected fashion empire. Christian Dior launched more highly successful fashion lines between the years of 1954 and 1957. However, none came as close to the profound effect of the New Look. Christian Dior appeared on the cover of TIME dated 4 March 1957. The designer soon afterwards died from a third heart attack on 24 October 1957. The captivating impact of Dior’s creative fashion genius earned him recognition as one of history’s greatest fashion figures. Kevin Almond for Contemporary Fashion wrote that “by the time Dior died his name had become synonymous with taste and luxury.” “Perfume is the indispensable complement to the personality of women, the finishing touch on a dress” ~Christian Dior Dior without Christian Dior. The death of the head designer left the House of Dior in chaos, and general manager Jacques Rouët considered shutting down operation worldwide. This possibility was not received graciously by Dior licensees and the French fashion industry. To bring the label back on its feet, Rouët promoted the 21-year-old Yves Saint-Laurent to Artistic Director the same year. Laurent had joined the House’s family in 1955 after being picked out by the original designer himself for the position of the first ever and only Head Assistant. After change of multiple designers and various scandals, Dior now, presently, has created strong partnerships with Hollywood celebrities and social media influencers, working closely with these individuals to reach more demographics and re-establish its identity as a new, modern brand, despite the fact that it has been around for a while. Dior has effectively implemented social media into their marketing communication strategy, in which images and videos from campaigns are shared on both the official Dior profile, and on the celebrity ambassadors’ social media pages. An example of this success is seen in the Secret Garden campaign featuring Rihanna. Despite the reach not being completely suitable to the Dior target audience, collaborating with the likes of Rihanna allows the company to engage with more of the market, as Rihanna’s social media following is four times larger than that of the fashion house. #DiorChristianDiorFashionLuxuryCompanyCoutureRihannaFrench SEARCH The Rich Heritage of Indian Handloom FASHION Fashion In The 19th Century FASHION Colour Psychology in Fashion: Explained FASHION The Influence Of Kanye West On Fashion FASHION K-Pop Fashion And Its Impact On Global Wardrobe FASHION POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement By Shriniwas Kodape AiSPi Wanderlust Diaries: Marzook, L’Afshar, And A Fashion Bender In Mumbai 25 April 2025 FASHION By Anushka Uniyal Kiyaan Silver: Timeless Jewellery For Every Woman 27 March 2025 FASHION By Sakshi Batra The Shoe Faktory Success Story: Ishpreet Singh Gujral’s Bold Business Leap 27 March 2025 FASHION By Sakshi Batra From Reality TV To Real Success: Nibedita Paal’s Inspiring Story 27 March 2025 FASHION RELATED POSTS

  • Why is childhood obesity becoming so common?

Why is childhood obesity becoming so common? by Rupashree Ravi Why is childhood obesity becoming so common? 15 August 2022 LIFESTYLE Advertisement One in five children between the ages of six and nineteen years in the United States have a body mass index at or above the 95th percentile, which is considered obese. Over forty population of the adult population in the US are also obese. In India, there’s been an alarming rise in childhood obesity all over the country, with over 18 million overweight children. And when the parents are overweight, their kids are eighty per cent more likely to have a weight problem too. Are parents making their children fat? Yes, the reason is that the easy, quick, and cheap food options that parents are providing their children fuel an obesity epidemic. Canned, processed, and packaged foods have become the go-to option for working parents who don’t have the time to prepare fresh home-cooked meals. Instant and ready-to-eat meals have become popular alternatives. Moreover, children regularly binge-eat junk options like fast food, chips, and cookies as snacks. “A typical Indian diet relies heavily on salt and sugar. They eat more convenience food that is high on carbs, instead of balanced meals.” A healthy Indian meal can constitute a combination of pulses, fibres, proteins and carbohydrates During the pandemic, these unhealthy eating habits only kept increasing due to the absence of regulated meals. A study found that the screen time for children aged between ten to fourteen years doubled as lockdowns were imposed globally. With the lack of a routine, there were also increased stress hormones, increased snacking, and emotional eating, which all contributed to increased weight gain in children. Parents and children also began to use food delivery apps more often. The lockdowns made children more obese due to poorer diets Of course, it is a proven fact that childhood obesity is a chronic disease. It has a lot of causal factors like a person’s genetics, individual metabolism, sleeping patterns, eating habits, and how physically active they are. Even other factors like negative childhood experiences, social factors like poverty and race, and environmental factors like financial status play an important role. But there are some other subtle factors as well. When it comes to the packaging of these products, colour plays an important role in children’s choice of food. For example, bright red increases a particular food product’s perceived taste, while green increases its perceived healthiness. Children also easily remember the brand names of junk food. Children should have regulated and balanced diets So what’s the solution? A great way for parents to start is by monitoring children’s screen time and showing consistency with media limits. Get your children to play outdoors more often. Parents should also protect their sleep time, and ensure they eat balanced meals of carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, fruits, and vegetables each day. It’s important that they read the entire nutritional label before purchasing a product and encourage healthier food and lifestyle choices. Because obesity is not just medical and physical health-related, but it also impacts the psychological and social well-being of children. With these right steps, we can prevent and fight obesity in children, before it becomes a larger and global issue. #Obesity #ChildhoodObesity #Overweight #HealthyEating #SayNoToJunk SEARCH Countdown To History: Omega Unveils Paris 2024 Olympics Countdown Clock And Special Edition Timepiece LIFESTYLE Juggling Law And Fashion: The Inspirational Journey Of Riddhi Nahata, A Multifaceted Influencer LIFESTYLE Join Shruti Yogi On Her Enchanting Journey From Kumkum Bhagya To Wanderlust Saga LIFESTYLE Personal Growth And Relatability: Ishita Khanna's Key To Influencer Success LIFESTYLE 6 Disadvantages Of Being Pretty LIFESTYLE POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement By Shrinivas Kodape Fast Times In Pune: Tracksuits, Dreams And A Dash Of Madness At Sports Con 2025 29 April 2025 LIFESTYLE By Aarti Singh The Audi A6: A Legacy Born From Rebellion And Refined Through Innovation 1 March 2025 LIFESTYLE By Sakshi Batra Glam Extravaganza 2025: Pune And Mumbai’s Influencers Compete For The Ultimate Spotlight 27 February 2025 LIFESTYLE By Anushka Uniyal Ice, Speed And Records: Porsche Taycan GTS Drifts Into History 27 February 2025 LIFESTYLE RELATED POSTS Advertisement

  • Is Fragrance in Skincare of Concern: Decoded

Is Fragrance in Skincare of Concern: Decoded by Aishwarya Is Fragrance in Skincare of Concern: Decoded 3 November 2022 FASHION Advertisement Fragrances play a huge role in our day-to-day life. They are an important aspect of our life. Often we human beings associate a certain person, food, incident or event, with the fragrance that reminds us of them. They play the role of making us feel nostalgic and associate with the source even more. While we all love a good fragrance, some people seem to have problems with perfume being in skin care. Though unfortunately, there isn’t a clear answer to whether fragrance in skincare is bad or not, still there is a lot of controversies surrounding it. A nice-smelling face mask seems like a perfect match for your me-time routine, but for some, it's the worst thing to do for their skin. The fragrance has become controversial in recent years, and the credit goes to YouTube videos, Subreddit threads, and many other social media platforms. According to a study, the American Academy of Dermatology suggests that fragrance is one of the most common causes of contact dermatitis , which affects roughly 1% of the population. As you can see, the number is quite nominal. So whether your skin could suffer some irritation due to scented skincare or not, is subjective and complex. On top of that, there isn’t a particular way to find out whether your skin will get irritated or not. There isn’t a single or particular symptom to find out the risk, which makes it difficult for you to decide, whether to use scented skincare or not. There are two types of fragrances, that can be used in your skincare; synthetic and natural. Your basic instinct would be to opt for natural fragrances. But is natural always better than chemicals? According to the experts, not really. Let us first understand what synthetic fragrances are. Synthetic fragrances are the ones, that are created in the lab. Furthermore, synthetic fragrances can be either fully synthetic or semi-synthetic. Semi-synthetics are the ones that are partially created and the rest is natural. Many brands choose synthetic fragrances for their products, as it lasts longer than natural fragrances. Generally, the natural scent has a shelf life of around one to two years, while synthetic fragrances has a shelf life of five years. Natural fragrances are derived from a natural source, like lavender or rose. They aren’t created by humans, so they are available in just one form; all-natural. The only problem with natural fragrances is their shelf life, rather than that it serves its purpose. Now, that being said, even natural essential oils can cause severe skin irritation. So, before you get into investigating the concerns of fragrances in skincare, look for the products that work best for you. Not everyone is allergic to fragrances and you need to know that skincare is subjective. While it is important for us to know what’s there in our skincare. We should also know, how a certain product reacts to our skin. Applying a little bit of the product to the back of your ear can be a great way to start. Fragrances are harmful to some people, but it isn’t toxic chemical you need to be worried about. With that being said, always do what your skin needs.
