- Waluscha De Sousa On Being Her ‘True Self’ And Going On The Dream Journey
Waluscha De Sousa On Being Her ‘True Self’ And Going On The Dream Journey by Panav Minocha Waluscha De Sousa On Being Her ‘True Self’ And Going On The Dream Journey 29 December 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement Waluscha De Sousa is an Indian actress and model who made her debut into Bollywood in the 2016 film Fan. She was recently in the Hindi-language thriller on Sony Liv-Tanaav. Waluscha made her debut into the fashion and modeling industry at the early age of 16. When asked the pros and cons of this early venture into the world of glamour, she replied that she didn’t plan at first to start working at 16. However, she just happened to be discovered at that age by the late fashion designer Wendell Rodricks, and felt extremely fortunate to have worked under his guidance. “He held my hand and never let go. I was very very lucky and very very fortunate to have someone like him (Wendell)”, she said. Having achieved milestones early on in her career, Waluscha mentioned how she became the face of Wendell’s clothing brand, got to be on the cover of a Femina magazine at the age of 17, and starred in a Pepsi commercial with Shah Rukh Khan at the same age. She also talked about how she went onto becoming MTV’s fresh face, and walked in the first Lakm é fashion week in India. She expressed immense gratitude towards Wendell Rodricks for all these achievements. “I owe him so much. So much of what I am today wouldn’t have been possible without him. For me, the journey was smooth with a few bumps along the way, but when I look back I’m just very grateful for having somebody like that in my life.” Waluscha comes from a mixed cultural background, being half Goan-Portuguese (from her father’s side) and half German (from her mother’s side). She was asked how this affected her career, and if it hampered it in any way. Her response: “Yes and no. I inherited my mother’s external appearance. This helped me immensely in the glamour industry. Although, I am inherently very much Indian and I’ve inherited this from my father.” She explained how India and Indian culture played a huge role in her life. “I was born and brought up in India, studied in India, and have my friends and family here.“ On the other hand, Waluscha also talked about some hardships she faced in the film industry. “Unfortunately I didn’t see the same embrace in the film industry. There was this preconceived notion in everybody’s heads that I was not Indian and didn’t speak the language, or I’m not desi, when it’s actually quite the contrary.” She said that she knew how to read and write in not only Hindi, but having grown up in Goa, was fluent in Marathi and Konkani just as well. “All the work that I’ve done in web-series and films has helped me break this notion.” Starting her career as a model, Waluscha only later ventured into the film industry. When asked if this was always her goal or if it happened inevitably, she replied that acting was something she always wanted to do. “The arts were something which always attracted me. Goa is a land filled with singers, musicians, and theatre. I was always drawn to the stage, and you would have seen me on the stage much more than you would see me in the classroom. It was a space that I really enjoyed and it was always inherently who I was. “ Waluscha also appeared to be incredibly enlightened by the response that her latest series- Tanaav, has received. “Tanaav has helped me break the notion that I am in some way un-Indian much more than any of my other work done in the past. The response that has come in post Tanaav has been overwhelming. I cannot even describe the feeling. Two days post it’s release, suddenly everyone knew my name, people who matter actually saw and appreciated my work…” Tanaav is a Hindi-language action thriller streaming on Sony Liv, revolving around conflict in the Kashmir Valley. It is a remake of the Israeli TV series Fauda, which is streamed internationally on Netflix. Waluscha plays the role of Zainab Riaz in the show. - Mannat Singh, the story of an aspiring actress
Mannat Singh, the story of an aspiring actress by Aparajita Jaiswal Mannat Singh, the story of an aspiring actress 28 September 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement Mannat Singh is not just a successful model but also an aspiring actress and found a passion for acting through pure serendipity. A young, goofy, introvert whose life changed when she entered the world of modeling through Miss India, moving out of her shell. "I thought that there's so much more that I could do and I'm not just this shy person. I can go out there in the world and try to have big dreams and I can achieve whatever I want if I put my mind to it," Mannat goes on tell us "I am really glad that I took that scary step of coming to a different city from a town where everything was my comfort alongside my my family. Taking that leap of faith, coming here and working for my dreams every day, I feel like that is commendable and that is the reason that I do this. I want to be an actor and I love what I do. I love where my life is going to go and the direction that I'm on. And that's all that I've got." Mannat Singh expresses how as an actor she wishes to bring the character to life and also be true to the character she is playing. As an actor you're always striving and being fearless enough to take chances. "The whole point acting us to bring the character to life. Everybody has a process which is very different and it's a very subjective thing. It differs from person to person, actor to actor. So I don't think there's a set way of performing this art but I feel it depends on the person and the actor." There are several stages of being an actor in a show or a film. There are certain thrilling aspects and there are certain parts where hard work and focus is key. Mannat comments on the same, "I feel that I embrace and enjoy the whole process. From getting the script and reading the script, understanding the writer's point of view to actually bringing the character to life and adding my own personal touch, the whole process is extremely thrilling to me. When you're auditioning and you're going about the scene and performing in front of people, I feel like there comes a point for me where I'm knee deep into the character that I start improvising. So, when I'm improvising, I am really getting under the skin of the character and it's just coming really naturally to me. That is the point where I know that I can do this. That particular point is very exciting and thrilling for me." "Not having explored many genres yet, I would be really excited to do a thriller or mystery film or show but the most difficult genre to perform, in my opinion, is comedy, because I feel like if you can make the audience laugh and you know it all comes with ease to you, is the most difficult thing to do. If ever got a chance, I'm sure that I'll have to work really hard. As a person, I believe I'm funny and have a good sense of humor but while performing a comedic role, I believe it will be one of the most difficult things to do but I’d still like to explore that." Having asked what present day mega director inspires her and she would like to be directed by, Mannat answers with a slight glow in her eye as she talks about her inspiration, "The filmmaker that inspires me the most and that I would love to work with in the future is Sanjay Leela Bhansali as I have just really liked his work since I was a little child. I've been watching him since Devdas and then I absolutely loved guzaarish and Ram Leela, eventually all the series that he's made, all the great films that he's made till date. I like his process, the way that he makes his characters a certain way, the whole direction process and it's just very thrilling to the eye from an audience's point of view. I would like to be directed by him." Mannat believes that as an actor we must pursue and the amount of effort and work one puts in their art will always prove fruitful. As an actor, with all hardships one faces, one must always keep going and pushing their boundaries without a shadow of doubt. She speaks about her father who is a motivational speaker, she says he always said, "Mannat you will be really glad if you give it your all, if you have tried really hard as you’ll never have regrets. Don't give up. This is my dream and this is what I want to work for. That's stuck with me and that's what I tell myself. Even on days when I'm feeling low, I don't get up and I'm not able to do what I want to but there are days that you have to pick yourself up and remind yourself of the purpose that you have aspired to achieve." The filmmaker that inspires me the most and that I would love to work with in the future is Sanjay Leela Bhansali as I have just really liked his work since I was a little child. - Building Opportunities And Expanding Horizons: An Interview With Actor Or Writer Meghana Kaushik
Building Opportunities And Expanding Horizons: An Interview With Actor Or Writer Meghana Kaushik by Aadhya Venkatesh Building Opportunities And Expanding Horizons: An Interview With Actor Or Writer Meghana Kaushik 30 June 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement Meghana Kaushik is a multitalented actress and writer who aspires to do great work in the entertainment industry. Wishing to leave her mark, she thrives on the competition she faces. Meghana identifies the kind of work that she needs to do to justify her talent. "As an artist, your goals are clear to you", she says. While speaking about recognizing opportunities, she said that one must always be prepared for the golden opportunity, ready to strike it with complete determination when it does occur. Stemming from the need to create such 'golden opportunities' for herself and others, she began writing for the screen. "As a writer, I can tell stories and narratives that I, as an actor, would like to act in". Meghana also believes that writing stories that she believes in will allow her to talk about subjects that need to be voiced. Meghana comes from theatre and has trained with Barry John as she always believes in improving her craft. Her foray into acting has been a learning curve. Belonging to a family with no connection to the industry, she had to learn everything about the process from scratch. The downside to this is that she has been dropped from many projects because she is not well-connected or comparatively well-known. She hopes that she can eventually work with creators that "cast actors based on their talent instead of social media follower count". Wishing to travel the world with her career, she wants to stand out in her field. She sees herself on the world stage, winning internationally acclaimed awards for her work while simultaneously creating a space of recognition for Indian talent. Currently, she is working on two feature films, one of which she is co-writing. Her inspiration in the field ranges from Madhubala, Waheeda Rehman, Sridevi and Alia Bhatt in the Indian film industry to icons such as Audrey Hepburn, Meryl Streep, Amy Adams, Natalie Portman, and Emily Blunt, amongst others. One of the easiest roles Meghana has played to date has been Nikita from Love, Lust, and Confusion. She believes that the character helped bring out her alter-ego, a person who was free-spirited, fashionable and non-judgmental about life and choices. Meghana strives to be a leader in a world full of followers. She urges those around her to remain positive in their lives and not let our differences and flaws bring us down. She propagates empowerment through acceptance of personal flaws with flair and grace. "Set yourself small goals to start with, and love yourself first" is the mantra she wishes to share. In a message to the youth, she pushes them to take charge and pave the way for the world to become a better place. She champions everyone to use their energies to protect fundamental human rights and promotes education for all. "We always need to be mindful and dream big. It is pertinent that we do not get caught up in mediocrity". All Meghana wants is for people to get over being lazy and take charge of their own lives, ultimately initiating a change that starts at the individual level. - Neha Bhasin: ‘I want to take Indian music to the same global level as international artists like Michael Jackson, Beyonce’
Neha Bhasin: ‘I want to take Indian music to the same global level as international artists like Michael Jackson, Beyonce’ by Rupashree Ravi Neha Bhasin: ‘I want to take Indian music to the same global level as international artists like Michael Jackson, Beyonce’ 30 June 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement Singer and songwriter Neha Bhasin has carved a unique artistic identity over the years as a pop artist and folk musician in India. Known for her popular film songs ‘Kuch Khaas,’ ‘Dhunki’ as well as ‘Hum Naye Geet Sunaye’ from the girl group, Viva! she has established herself as a powerful vocalist and independent artist, who has broken many stereotypes of the music industry. In a recent interview, Bhasin shared details about her upcoming singles and collaborations, the struggles of being an independent artist, and her future goals. She also spoke about her biggest inspirations and what she wishes to achieve in the ever-changing industry. “I started my journey as an independent artist right after Viva! but I released my first album in 2010. I’ve been very fortunate to not just sustain myself but balance a great career between Bollywood music and also my own independent music. Of course, you need good music, funds, and the right support system. I believe what really matters is the connection you share with your audience and the music that you're producing while maintaining the consistency of the good stuff that you produce. It’s not easy, but consistency is the key,” she said. Bhasin shared with us that she enjoys a wide range of music genres. Since she was young, she always enjoyed listening to pop rock and classic rock bands like Aerosmith and Pink Floyd. Old school artists like Prince have influenced her musical career. She cites Michael Jackson as her biggest musical influence during the start of her career and Adele as her all-time favourite. “I love keeping myself updated with the world's music space. I listen to current dance genres and I’ve also recently warmed up to a lot of Sufi music. Many artists have inspired me like Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Queen, Aerosmith, and Bon Jovi. So many artists from Billy Joel to BTS have moved me. Among Indian artists, I would say Kishore da, Asha Ji, Lata Ji, Reshma Ji, Noor Jahan Ji are my favourites. Some current artists I love are Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Charlie Puth, and Sam Smith It's typical to put them in one word because I feel every great artist has a great impact on your life but I think the reason why I started loving music was Michael Jackson,” she shared. When asked if any album or single is in the works, she said, “Yes, I'm working on my next single. Singles, rather and some folk song originals. Once they're ready I would know which is the next one for release. I’m always working on new music.” On artists that she would love to collaborate with, she mentioned singer and composer Amaal Malik. She expressed her interest to collaborate with Punjabi artists and also shared that she is currently in talks with composers Yuvan Shankar Raja and Devi Sri Prasad from the south industry. She hopes that there will be some big stops coming this year with regard to international collaborations, although it is a bit far-fetched at the moment. As a public figure who has been a part of the industry for many years, Bhasin has been very vocal about social issues like sexism and body shaming and has taken part in a lot of campaigns. “I've had different sizes of bodies in the span of my career. At the very beginning, I was actively body-shamed by the people that I worked with. Body positivity is something I really believe in. It’s something I was very sensitive about because it really impacted my life. I suffered from body image issues and food disorders for a very long time. So, I understand the impact it has on a young person's mind. I hate the word ‘plus size.’ I feel like your body is a beautiful armour that God has given for your soul's residence. It should be appreciated and loved. I think it's my responsibility to put out the right message especially, being a victim of body shaming myself. Hence, I'm active about it,” she said. The award-winning singer shared that her biggest goal or mission as a musical artist is to produce great music that means something in the world. She shared, “The kind of music that I grew up listening to, that gave me goosebumps and changed my life, made me the artist I am today. I want to be the change that I want to see in the industry. My job is not to preach to people or to change them, but to live by example. That's what I'm doing and that's what I’ve always done. I hope to make my label bigger and have more resources to produce good music. As of now, I'm the only artist who’s in it. I'll be happy if we can get more artists in the future. My mission is to take Punjabi folk music global. I've kind of resurrected a dead genre and I want to make that bigger and better.” Her ultimate dream to achieve in the music industry is to live a legacy of great work and for people to remember her work as legendary music. She wants to take India to the same global level as international artists like Michael Jackson, Beyonce, and Madonna and have worldwide concerts with great production value. “Of course, my ultimate dream is to win a Grammy and release my English album, which is something that I’ve not done much about till now except for writing good music,” she added. - A look into actor, producer and designer Shama Sikander’s journey
A look into actor, producer and designer Shama Sikander’s journey by Aparajita Jaiswal A look into actor, producer and designer Shama Sikander’s journey 30 June 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement “Life is my biggest role model and people are my biggest inspiration.” In our recent interview with Shama Sikander , the actor gives us a gist of her acting journey. From filming movies (like Prem Aggan, Mann, Dhoom Dhadaka, Seven) to television shows (like Ye Meri Life Hai), Shama seems to have learnt extensively from her experiences. “My projects have taught me a lot about humans and life other than acting as well. Acting comes naturally to me. I feel ecstatic when I’m in front of camera. One gets a chance to put to life a character with their own imagination. Shooting films need more time and therefore, are a bit of an ease in comparison to television. Television is all about delivering the product. Nowadays, T.V shows are equally well made but films have their own charm. Overall, the journey has made me stronger and given me the courage to fight for myself.”, says the actor. A multitasker at hand, the actor adds two more achievements in her bag- owning a production company and a women’s wear fashion label named Saisha. Shama says “It feels empowering to own a production company. As for fashion, at the time I was going through a phase where I was looking for a change in my life. Hence, I wanted to venture into something other than acting as well so I started Saisha. It feels good and creative to be a designer.” Another cherry on the cake is the actor’s dream to start directing films and shows “sometime soon”. Having clarity in terms of future goals and plans in certainly a “plus-plus” and the actor seems to have a definitive agenda. “I am currently focusing on acting and working on a peppy dance-music video. I’m going through a couple of more scripts as of now and keeping my eyes open to collaborating on some good projects as a producer too. I want to utilise my acting ability to draw an impact in the coming years.” Moreover, the actor claims that she is rejoiced at the response her recent music video Majnu 2 alongside Mika Singh is receiving. Since the longest, being a public figure and in the spotlight has its set of positives and negatives. According to the actor, the “ups and downs” are a part of the job. Keeping such a mindset and reminding oneself of the true purpose as to entering the space and help actors in staying clear of negative thoughts and emotions. Shama deepens the conversation further when asked about her biggest role model to which she remarkably responds- “Life is my biggest role model and people are my biggest inspiration. We inspire each other through our vulnerabilities and strength all the time.” Shama ends the interview in a beautiful note by reminding her fans to love themselves through all the thick and thins existing in the universe. - Therapy motivation
SOCIETY by Anadi Gupta Therapy motivation 1 November 2020 SOCIETY Advertisement Advertisement Causes of depression are still being discovered, some people get this disease due to difficult conditions of life, and some without any solid reason. Still no solid physical test is available to detect depression. When you care about someone, it is very difficult to see them struggling with their mental state. And even more so when you know that they can be helped professionally. It can be very difficult to visit someone and encourage them for therapy or professional help. Misconceptions about mental health have intensified stigma in society. Even today, depression and mental illnesses are not taken seriously in our society. It is important for us to understand that this is also a type of disease that can happen to people and they need to be treated. That is why we should always talk with patience and love to people suffering from it, so that they do not feel like a burden. We should assure them that we are with them and we will help them to get out of it. Still a lot of people don’t feel comfortable to talk openly about depression. Many famous people, who are very successful in their area, become victims of depression because people usually have very high expectations from them and they feel under pressure to fulfil them. But some celebrities have came forward and talk about it and encouraged others, which is a very good step for the society. It can be hard to share personal feelings with parents, especially if you haven’t done it in a while. This can be difficult to share when you are not really sure what is going on. Sometimes parents can provide a new angle that helps you understand things. Just talking about it can help you see things from a different perspective. If depression is severe or persists, you may still need to talk to a therapist after having a good conversation with your parents. Tell your mom or dad if you continue to feel depressed. Your mother or father can make an appointment for you and support you while working with a therapist. Telling your parents about depression can be very emotionally difficult for you. You may cry, or your parents may cry. This is completely fine. Depression is a difficult subject, and you are doing the right thing by addressing it now before it gets worse. Chances are, your parents have already noticed that something is wrong. They just don’t know what it is or how to help. By naming the problem, you will help them feel better and learn how to take action. You have to choose a time when neither you nor your parents are distracted. It should be a quiet time when you can talk one-on-one, or with both of them alone. Long car rides, quiet evenings, working together, and long walks are all good subjects. If your parents are busy, ask when is a good time. Say something like “I really have something important to talk to you about. What would be a good time for us to have a private conversation?” Sometimes, parents make the mistake of not taking their children seriously about depression. Opening up about depression can be challenging, but you will definitely feel better if you try to share your feelings. Get the courage to talk to your parents about what depression is, especially when you are feeling particularly low. Talk therapy is not just “talking about your problems” It is also working towards solutions. Some therapy may include homework, such as tracking your moods, writing about your thoughts, or participating in social activities that have been a cause for concern in the past. You may be encouraged to look at things in a different way or learn new ways to react to events or people. Most of today’s therapy is brief and focuses on your current thoughts, feelings and life issues. Focusing on the past can help explain things in your life, but focusing on the present can help you face the present and prepare for the future. You may see your physician or counselor more often when you first start working with them, and later, as you progress toward your goals, you have fewer appointments. It’s just that, Never be afraid in asking for help whenever it is needed. #mentalhealthmatters #depression #Therapy #Anxiety #mentalhealthawareness SEARCH Women Empowerment A mere concept or a real Concern SOCIETY Looking Through The Excellence Of ‘Jaali’ Architecture SOCIETY Why the Gender Pay Gap is Wide and Disturbing SOCIETY Festival of Stones SOCIETY The Pygmalion Effect SOCIETY POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement By Anushka Sharma Uniting Voices, Shaping Futures: Dive Into Mun 2.0 At NIT Patna 8 September 2024 SOCIETY By Anushka Sharma These Healthy Habits Can Lower Your Risk Of Depression 31 August 2024 SOCIETY By Rini Pathak A Glance In The Kshitij’23: A Euphoric Escapade 26 January 2024 SOCIETY By Rini Pathak Mithibai Kshitij: Epitome Of Diverse Social Cause Empowerment 24 January 2024 SOCIETY RELATED POSTS
- Where The Conversation Took Turns Like The Everest’s Terrain With Sahil Salathia
Where The Conversation Took Turns Like The Everest’s Terrain With Sahil Salathia by Anushka Sharma Where The Conversation Took Turns Like The Everest’s Terrain With Sahil Salathia 27 January 2023 COVER STORIES Advertisement In a very interesting conversation with Mr. Sahil Salathia, we learnt far too much about how he perceives things outside the realm of acting and while he’s on set. Nevertheless, these conversations took turns like that of Everest(Pun Intended) and we loved him in that series! Movies aren’t all that Sahil Salathia is about. He also has his hands dipped in fashion and is quite a groundbreaking idol indeed. When asked about how he seeks to break the fashion stereotypes for the men as a fashion icon himself, he said, “Firstly, thank you for addressing me as a fashion icon: I’m humbled! Considering the boundaries that lie in fashion, they are far too many for men and women to tackle. One shouldn’t have a lot of seriousness around these boundaries. You wanna wear colour, wear colour, you wanna wear black nail paint, do that. Life is art, hence, be artistic and break these so-called boundaries! The key is to not take yourself so seriously!” The key indeed is to not take ourselves so seriously, after all! Fashion is art you wear and Sahil has made it look beyond surreal. Elucidating upon how it was like to work for the series, “Everest”, he fondly recalls, “I got a Lines Gold Award for the best debut and it was an incredible experience. We shot for a year in Dokriani glacier, and shot for a year and a half in total, considering the kind of a perfectionist that Ashutosh sir is. We really put in the work on this series, and Target and Everest are both available on Hotstar is indeed worth all the admiration! Ashutosh sir is a sheer gentleman, and I got to learn so much from the young cast and the fantastic actors that were a part of this series.” While there is so much that the actor has already got himself into, we couldn’t help but seek a glimpse of the upcoming projects he is set for in the future. He tells us all about them and how! “I’ve done two very very interesting parts in two very very very interesting web series. I can’t talk too much about it, but one is produced by Nikhil Advani and the other is produced by Viacom. I’d let them come up with more announcements, but I’ve finished filming and it was a bliss indeed!” Talking about the roles that he has particularly loved during his current tenure in the industry, he fondly recalls, “I can’t really pick a role that is closest to my heart, but I particularly loved my role as “Arjun Sabharwal”, the mountaineer from Everest, because it was my first and it was with Ashutosh, who is literally a legend. There are two more very interesting roles I’ve done which you’ll get to see soon.” As a groundbreaker in fashion and an actor whose skills speak for himself, we sought more of him than just acting. We wanted to know all about his viewpoint towards therapy for mental health issues amongst men and women in today's age and climate. He says, “Mental health is one of the pressing issues in today’s times. Considering how rapidly dynamic our lifestyles are, it’s imperative to understand the sheer importance of how mental health impacts us. Since I’m not a professional, I’d recommend one should seek help when one deems fit. Mental health is the most intrinsic part of our being and should not be ignored. Personally, I love to meditate, go to the gym and help release my endorphins through doing things that I absolutely enjoy!” As we furthered onto the topics of feminism and women empowerment, he stated, “Women empowerment is something we should all be very passionate about, since it’s not just for women, but also for the men. Considering how much we have suppressed women in the past, one ought to stand up for their rights in today’s scenario to make amends for the past. Feminism is about the rights that women rightfully deserve. It is about equality and being fair and I think everybody should believe in that.” As an actor who believes that the odds to be ever in his favour, he has an advice for everyone who seeks to get into this industry: “My advice would be to stay disciplined, stay balanced and manifest while you put in the effort. You get luckier when you work harder. Ask yourself one very important question, “Are you passionate about art or do you just wish to be famous?” Ultimately, this is what you should ask yourself before you plan to get into the industry. - In Conversation And More With Payal Ghosh
In Conversation And More With Payal Ghosh by Anushka Sharma In Conversation And More With Payal Ghosh 11 March 2023 COVER STORIES Advertisement Accompanied with a vivacious personality and an appealing charm, Payal Ghosh is a class apart indeed. In a candid take on her life’s trajectory with us, we uncovered a lot that lies under the layers. Speaking of when she got her first break, she said, “I was just 17 when I got my first opportunity. I wasn't even out of college yet, I just went to accompany a friend to an audition and I got a movie Prayanam directed by a National Award winning director Mr. Yeleti. It was a fantastic experience.” Getting an opportunity at the age of 17 is definitely a God’s given bliss! Speaking of how she would describe her experience working in the South as well as Bollywood, she talks to us about how different the overall outlook is. She states, “They both are different. Down south they do a lot of pre-production work. This is not to say that Bollywood doesn't, but it's more abundant there. The shoots are also wrapped sooner down south. Bollywood is a different ballgame. The audience is wide and you are critiqued for everything that you do. As we unfurled a few topics on which one of her works is closest to her heart, she tells us that she cannot choose or pick a single project! “All of them. I can't differentiate between them. They are like my babies. I’ve worked so much that no work is big or less for me, I loved all my work and every artist should love every work of theirs.” Art is all about nourishing a metaphorical baby that feeds off your talent, after all! Speaking of her upcoming projects, she states, “One of them is Red which is completed with Krishna. It's a thriller. I have started working on "Shaque the doubt" which is also a thriller. The shooting commences in London soon. I’ve many more projects coming up to surprise the Audience and my fans.” When we asked Payal about this one piece of advice for the girls who are keen to join the industry, she tells us, “Be bold, be yourself and don't take the shortcut route. If you work hard enough for your dreams you'll surely make it. There is enough room for talent. Believe in yourself.” However, acting isn’t all that she’s known for. Payal has some slick sense of dressing as well. When asked about her fashion mantra, she tells us the key to knowing it all: Being yourself in whatever you wear, with confidence and happiness, only to never go wrong with it! As the conversation divulged into the topics of mental health, she has a rather interesting take on the entire subject. She states, “Do start with a goal for your mental health content. ... Do use credible sources. ... Do include the details on how to get in touch with professional help. ... Don't limit people's identities to their mental health.” Speaking of her views on body positivity, she tells us, “All body types are beautiful and deserve acceptance. Body positivity is guided by the understanding that feeling positive and accepting of appearance can improve mental health, reduce the risk of eating disorders, and allow someone to function at their best. Needless to say, this interview with Payal Ghosh was indeed a refreshing take on life, Bollywood and perspectives in general. - Adah Sharma, Sweetheart Since 1920
Adah Sharma, Sweetheart Since 1920 by Aparajita Jaiswal Adah Sharma, Sweetheart Since 1920 10 November 2021 Advertisement The first person that comes to our mind when we think of the words 'fun', 'spontaneous' and 'multifaceted talent' is Adah Sharma. We had the opportunity to sit down and chat with the outgoing and busy actor, who has many movies in various languages in her kitty. Adah exudes maior 'Girl-next door' energy in her latest interview with Aparajita Jaiswal as they discussed about completing a century in the industry, internet's sensation and beloved Radha Sharma, thoughts on fashion, OTT platforms and more. How and when exactly did you realize your passion for acting? What is the best part about being an actor? Throughout my schooling I truly enjoyed acting. I had taken part in theater and plays every now and then. I always wanted to experiment and try and be something else every other day. Whatever I was wanting to become, I was very serious about it. started practicing acrobatics because I wanted to join the circus, you won't believe me. I was so dedicated and serious about it. I graduated from a Kathak course because I wanted to become a dancer. When I wanted to become an actor, once again, I was very serious about it and if I put it quite plainly, all the skills I learnt along the way have come in handy in my acting career. I can only answer it based on my opinion, to me, it is absolutely the fact that I am allowed to be different people and personalities on-screen. Everybody adores the content you and Radha give us. What do you think of Radha's popularity Everyone adores Radha because she is the star-kid Radha Sharma. She is the first stuffed pillow to have her own Instagram. I am glad people are accepting and giving Radha the attention she deserves, however, it is not because of me. People admire her solely due to her talent and multiple expressions. (laughs) You have recently completed more than a decade since your entry in the industry. How has your experience been so far and how has the industry evolved so far? How would you describe your acting? I have actually completed a century in the industry! I have this hashtag that says #HundredYearsofAdahSharma because I started with the movie 1920 and we are currently in 2021.which makes it a hundred years. So it is safe to say I have been in the field longer than most veteran actors. I don't think I have aged for someone working since 1920 (laughs) it has to be the curious case of Adah. As for how I would describe my acting; I feel very fortunate to have bagged 1920 because I was able to prove that I can perform since our debut movie really makes a huge statement. Media and audience have been very kind and welcoming to me and so was my audience. I am very grateful for all the love and support people have given throughout these years, it really makes me feel very comfortable and more crazy I guess (haha). You have a very strong fashion game. Who would you consider as your style and fashion icon? For me, fashion is something that should be fun. When you start taking it too seriously it gets stressful and then there's no fun. Fashion is a part of my life and a part of me that I truly enjoy. If I am a part of a movie then I like sticking to the essence of the character based on how the character is written. On the other hand, I enjoy experimenting and trying out something | haven't done before in the case of fashion or magazine shoots. I also feel that what attracts my attention to someone else's style is when they have an inherent style of their own. One should be able to pick a style/hair style and make it their own, it would make it fun for themselves and make them look confident. I would say rather than strictly sticking to copying 'trends' one should have and play around with fashion. I would even say, don't be afraid of making mistakes, make mistakes in fashion because what might be a faux pas today might be in vogue tomorrow and vice versa. So you do you and have fun with fashion. Tell us about the toughest part of your work? And why do you think it is tough for you? The toughest part has to be, realizing that I am able to live my dream every single day. I enjoy every part of what I am doing, be it wearing amazing clothes or being a new character. Well, posing for selfies while savoring Bhel Puri….. life is tough! (haha, serious sarcasm intended). If anything you would be asked to change about your work, what would be that one thing? I consider myself at a very good phase in my career. I am being considered for really fun roles so right now I really do not wish to change anything. I am purely grateful for where I stand now. Now that OTT platforms are gaining traction among actors, what do you feel and do you see it as an opportunity to display your work? I have had an unremarkable OTT presence. I've previously been a part of a short-film Tinday, Moh which was released on OTT platforms. I played a bipolar character in Chuha Billi and a role in another OTT release entitled Holiday. I saw that my presence in Holiday drove more attention than most movies I have been a part of did. So, I make it a point to choose series, films or short stories that entertain, because when it is entertaining the medium of release doesn't matter because people would take efforts to watch it. So far as the content is good, people are hardly impacted by the medium. Whether they watch it on their phones or in multiplexes doesn't matter as long as they are enjoying the content. Once again, since I am very experimental and fun with work I want to try it all. Why does your Instagram Bio say "Actor/crow/Cow"? Yes, because when no one is watching I can turn into them. PS: but only when no one is watching. You made your singing debut in Tamil. How did you prepare yourself for singing, that too in an unfamiliar language? I have taken Piano and Carnatic music classes since a very young age So singing came pretty much easily and naturally. Though I enjoy singing and dancing. I really believe that acting is my first love. I would like to dance and sing as well. but WITH the acting. You have worked in different regional industries as well. How has that experience been? How different is it from working in mainstream Bollywood? If there's anything the pandemic has taught us, it is that if the content is good, everybody is going to watch it irrespective of the language and medium. From my experience. realized that it lies in the vision of the director as well. I have made a mark in the South Indian industry. My movies are also dubbed in Malayalam. I've been a part of Punjabi music videos. I see myself working in other regional movies as well. I am a part of an international action film which I am quite excited about. I am excited to try out all Indian languages and I would give foreign languages a chance as well. How do you prepare yourself for a role? What attracts you to a role now? It depends from role to role. Each role has its individual preparation needed. For instance, for my role in Commando, I was expected to speak Hindi with a Telugu tone to it, so I had an accent coach train me and for action movies I train accordingly. As for my South Indian movies, I like to read and reread and go well prepared to set since it is an unknown language. I like to read for my roles beforehand and go to set well prepared. It can be really stressful to receive lines on set. What attracts me to a role is something I haven't done before. What is next for you? Anything you can talk about? Any new movies in the talks? I have finished two Telugu films, one of which is a Girl action movie and the other movie is a sweet love story directed by Telugu actor Nani's sister Deepthi. It is produced by Nani as well. There is Commando 4 where I reprise my role as Bhavna Reddy once again. She is funnier and there's more action. I will also be seen in 'Aisa Waisa Pyaar' where I play the role opposite a dog named Happy. It is a lovestory between a dog and a cynical bitch. I really enjoyed playing it. There is Holiday 2 too. slated for release. There are few more in the works, but I am keeping fingers crossed for everything to work out. If you see yourself working with a celebrity, who would it be? I do not hold dreams because if I do that and it isn't fulfilled then I am bound to be re-born similar to Shah Rukh Khan in Om Shanti Om and become an actor once again and fulfill it in that incarnation. I just hope amazing filmmakers wake-up someday and say I wish Adah would sign our films. That's my dream! You recently played the role of a transgender person in "Pati, Patni aur Panga'. How challenging was it to you and what measures did you take to prepare for the role? 'Pati ,Patni aur Panga' is a very sweet love story and I hold it very dear to me. I was attracted to the role and the film because as human beings we tend to jump into conclusions and to make hasty judgements without knowing the entire story. So, it is a film that taught us not to be judgmental, which is a very earnest thought. Could we ever get a chance to see you working in Hollywood? Does that interest you? Like I mentioned earlier, one may never know. I am open with my options and wish to try and pursue acting in different roles and in different languages as long as the role, core, content and message of the film/series/short film are meaningful and something I haven't tried before. “JUST HOPE AMAZING FILMMAKERS WAKE-UP SOMEDAY AND SAY I WISH ADAH WOULD SIGN OUR FILMS. THAT'S MY DREAM!” SEARCH Actor Kangna Sharma gives a sneak peek into the movie of her life COVER STORIES Finding Power In Individuality: In Conversation With The Stunning Alina Rai COVER STORIES Madhura Naik talks about the Life of an Actress COVER STORIES Kavya Thapar And Her Versatile Acting Career That Cuts Across Regional Lines COVER STORIES Ahsaas Channa Talks About Her Mother Being The Inspiration Behind Her Career COVER STORIES POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement By Shriniwas Kodape Neon Nights And Yellow Lights: The Sonic World Of Natania Lalwani 30 April 2025 COVER STORIES By Sakshi Batra Farhan Khan: Where Poetry Meets Hip-Hop, And Stories Come Alive 10 February 2025 COVER STORIES By Anushka Sharma A Journey Shaped By Courage, Creativity, And Social Media With Aditi Sharma 19 October 2024 COVER STORIES By Anushka Sharma A Journey Of Transformation, Empathy, And Unwavering Passion With Jitin Gulati 11 October 2024 COVER STORIES RELATED POSTS Advertisement
- If you can dream it, you can achieve it – In conversation with Donal Bisht
If you can dream it, you can achieve it – In conversation with Donal Bisht by Aadhya Venkatesh If you can dream it, you can achieve it – In conversation with Donal Bisht 21 August 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement As a big believer in dreaming big and working hard to achieve your dreams, Donal Bisht was a Journalist and Anchor who pursued her dream of acting and modelling. In college, her seniors pursuing film studies always called her to work in their short films and music videos. Despite being pushed towards being an actor, Donal believed she wanted to pursue the media industry and work as a journalist. She even established herself in the field with a four-year-long career but eventually realised that "the work did not make my heart happy and did not satisfy me". It was then that she dropped everything and came to Mumbai to pursue her passion for acting. "I really believe in destiny". She has been in the show business for five years and has only been climbing the ladder of success. Having started with TV shows, Donal did four years of back-to-back TV with shows like Ek Deewana Tha and Roop . She then realised that to achieve creative satisfaction, she had to do something different. "I did a South bilingual film in Kannada and Telugu. The shift, I would say creatively, is great when you do different things", she said. She never knew Telugu and didn't have any exposure to the language. But after multiple workshops and extra efforts on sets, she managed to get well versed in the dialogues and expressions. "I used to keep the first AD with me to do the lines thoroughly, in and out". She broke through the language barrier and had her proud moment when people asked her if she was a natural Telugu speaker. Now that her film is in the post-production stage, Donal is excited to see herself in the role. Once her film was on the verge of completion, she entered the Big Boss house and became one of the most respected contestants in her two weeks there. "People come to me and say they want to become like me and love my personality". Having done four back to back soap shows, she now wants to venture into the world of web shows, which she is doing through her MX player original Show, Zakhm. Zakhm is a "romantic thriller show where I play Kavya, a healer who heals people's wounds". She is excited about the release of the show. Donal is also a TEDx speaker and always urges her fans to dream. "Dreaming is very important. If you can dream, you can achieve". She says that once a person has an unrelenting dream that they strive to achieve, persistence will take them forward on their journey. Those who dream can achieve whatever they aspire to. The one mantra she follows in life is to leave no stone unturned. She believes that persistence is critical and that a person should never stop. "First try to fly. If you can't fly, run. If you can't run, walk. If you can't walk, crawl, but you do the best". Running and Weight Lifting are her preferred modes of workout. She runs on the treadmill for 20 minutes a day and believes that fitness is what you eat, and one must take care of what suits them and what doesn't. Along with exercise, she also recommends her audiences watch their food intake and monitor what they eat because, more often than not, it is a particular fruit, vegetable, or seafood that causes allergies and bloating. "Observe your body and the way it reacts to food". Donal's favourite travel destination is her family home in Delhi, where she goes for all significant occasions. Other than that, one place she hopes to visit soon is Paris, which is her second favourite place. #donalbisht #coverstory #interview #fashion #actress SEARCH Actor Kangna Sharma gives a sneak peek into the movie of her life COVER STORIES Finding Power In Individuality: In Conversation With The Stunning Alina Rai COVER STORIES Madhura Naik talks about the Life of an Actress COVER STORIES Kavya Thapar And Her Versatile Acting Career That Cuts Across Regional Lines COVER STORIES Ahsaas Channa Talks About Her Mother Being The Inspiration Behind Her Career COVER STORIES POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement By Shriniwas Kodape Neon Nights And Yellow Lights: The Sonic World Of Natania Lalwani 30 April 2025 COVER STORIES By Sakshi Batra Farhan Khan: Where Poetry Meets Hip-Hop, And Stories Come Alive 10 February 2025 COVER STORIES By Anushka Sharma A Journey Shaped By Courage, Creativity, And Social Media With Aditi Sharma 19 October 2024 COVER STORIES By Anushka Sharma A Journey Of Transformation, Empathy, And Unwavering Passion With Jitin Gulati 11 October 2024 COVER STORIES RELATED POSTS Advertisement
